Recently reported STEERING problems on 2008 Chevrolet Malibu

I have had nothing but problems with my electronic power steering amongst other things as well. the steering wheel locked up on me for the first time while parked. i turned the car off then back on & it went back to normal. i've been having issues with it making a sound in the steering wheel column & the steering wheel will move on it's own & will stick while i'm driving which makes it hard to control my vehicle. also there is other electrical problems causing security light to come on & my car will lock up & i can't start it. the "service esc" light came on around the same time as well. the seatbelt light will come on when everyone has their seatbelt on too. there is obviously something going on with wire connections or something. i'm aware of recalls on the same exact year make & model as my vehicle for the same issues i'm having but no recalls have been issued for my specific vehicle. i have owned nothing but gm vehicles & this one has been nothing but problems!

Takata recall while driving the power steering shuts down.i pull over shut it off wait a minute then it will work for a few min.tben shut off again.im a cancer patient and need my car to get to hospital.this has really got me stressed.

I was driving a couple days after buying thos vehicle & noticed that my power steering message came on on my dash. a few days later the steering wheel was harder to control & when i was parked my steering wheel would move on it's own. i looked online to try to figure out why it could be doing that because i had never had a car with electronic power steering & i saw that i was 1 of many people who has the same problem with the same make & model car, some of which have a recall for that very reason. i feel like it is very dangerous now driving because the steering wheel feels like it is moving on it's own while driving.

I was driving down the road and stopped at a stop light and my power steering went out.

There was a recall on steering electric power assist in which my vehicle was serviced at gm dealership for it. eventhough, i am having a problem with the power steering. the power steering light came on. i took it to a gm dealer and they said it was my torque sensor. this should have been addressed in the recall, so now i have to come out my pocket to pay for repairs because the gm dealer said there were no open recalls on my 2008 malibu. i believe that there is still a problem with the parts because it should not be failing this soon. thank you.

Power steering recall was performed 2 1/2 years ago and now the power steering is intermittently not working. it will work for a bit and then stop during driving. i took it to the dealership this am and was told that the warranty for the part was not effective because it expired after 150,000 miles. this is a safety issue. it is hard to control the car when it happens. its not like it isn't working when i first start it up at times, it happens while driving down the road.

My power steering goes out without warning while driving. the warning displays on the radio screen. my mechanic called a dealership and they told him the recall had a limited mileage warranty of 150,000 miles. my vehicle has approximately 157,000 miles. this seems dangerous to me. why is there a mileage limit? my mechanic attempted to fix it but it continues to occur.

Started car to go to work, "power steering/service esc" light on, no power steering. turned car off, back on. no light, and operated normally. restarted vehicle again, no power steering, and same service lights on. also, while in park, steering wheel shakes back and forth. steering torque sensor was replaced in jan.2016 due to recall, with same symptoms. both dealer and gm say there is no extension or warranty because recalled part was already repaired. car is now sitting in driveway, not drivable.

Takata recall : my vehicle power steering went out during a sharp turn....the aps light came on and power steering failed in turn while another vehicle was coming close behind. i was able to get pulled to side of road just in time, before being hit from behind. power steering goes out continuously while driving. i have seen several other complaints about this, also recalls.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that there was an abnormal vibration in the steering wheel and it was difficult to turn in either direction. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to replicate and diagnose the failure. the dealer (shottenkirk, 5031 ave o, fort madison, ia 53627, 319-248-8866) stated that the steering wheel torque sensor and steering column needed to be replaced and reprogrammed. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 14e044000 (steering) and 14v153000 (steering). the manufacturer provided no solution other than taking the vehicle to the dealer. the approximate failure mileage was 153,000.

I have a 2008 chevy malibu. it took me a lot of hard work to afford a car. i make payments of around $400 a month. recently my steering wheel started shaking, and a power steering warning flashed on the center consule. after doing this repeatedly for a couple days my steering wheel is now locking up. it locks up on me while driving, and i need this car to go to work everyday. its my only car! i researched the problem, and seen others with the same issue. it seems its the power steering motor and torque sensor. there was a recall on the vehicle for this very problem. the issue is you put a warranty on it for 150k miles or 10 year whatever comes first. my car is at 159k. this is totally unfair, i could seriously hurt myself or injure someone due to this recall, and if its a recall it should be a lifetime warranty. i dont have $600 to get the issue repaired, i have rent, a car payment, and other bills. please extened my warranty, and fix my car so i can move on in life.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet malibu. while driving 35 mph, the contact noticed that the steering wheel started to shake and became difficult to turn. al willie ford (1603 us-181 s, portland, tx 78374) diagnosed that the failure was due to a previous recall regarding the torque sensor. the technician informed the contact that the vehicle had already been repaired per the unknown recall. the manufacturer confirmed what the dealer stated and that the repair would cost $695 at the contact's expense. a vin search revealed that there were no recalls associated with the vehicle. the failure mileage was 130,000.

We have had two issues. first broken fuel pump spilling gas on top of the fuel tank this has been an issue with this type of vehicle but not this specific vehicle. cost to repair 400 dollars. issue two. bad torque sensor on electric power steering column. causing power steering failure at will. major safety issue as well. chevy told me this specific part was not part of an earlier recall. cost to fix 622 dollars at chevy dealer. power steering failure happened while driving on city streets in madison sd. gas leaking issue was noticed by a strong smell of gasoline. we stopped driving until repair could be made. they are both recalll issues on the 08 malibu. talked to chevy. with no offer to cover repairs being made.

My 2009 chevy malibu has lost power steering three times in the last year and a half. i each time, i took it to the dealer to be "fixed", but even after they said it was fixed the first and second time, it happened again. the first and third time it happened, i was on a busy road traveling at 50 miles per hour and driving straight. the second time it happened, i was driving about 10 miles per hour, and going around a corner. i almost collided with a tree because i could not complete the turn. when the car loses power steering, i absolutely cannot turn the wheel. this has placed me in very dangerous situations. the car is under 150,000 miles, so it qualifies for the special warranty, but it is approaching the limit, and the dealership indicated that if it happens after 150,000 miles, i will have to pay for the repair. i am concerned that i have had it "fixed" three times and it continues to happen. i have two small children, and it has lost power steering while they are in the car with me.

In 2014 there was a recall on chevy malibu, we werent experiencing any problems but took it to the dealership instead. we are now experiencing problems with the steering. while car is still, and also in motion the steering wheel will shake very bad. when driving the steering wheel will lock up, and jerk causing you to have to grip the wheel extra hard to keep it straight. the wheel will also shake vigourously while still and in motion causing driving to be dangerous. took the car to the dealership, they said there was nothing they could do about it.

The power steering on my car has been making uncommanded inputs both at a stop and at all speeds that i drive. i can feel jerkiness in the steering most of the time which feels like a rapid change in steering boost. i have not received any problem lights to date. the problem manifests itself about 50% of the time.

Getting off highway onto exit ramp turning left and power steering assist shut off , dash warning lights lit and bells chimmed. steering was nearly impossible and almost hit gaurd rails. stopped car , eventually restarted car and car back to normal . now everytime car is steered in the left direction warning light and bells start .

About a day ago, i was taking my wife to work at 6am and the power steering stopped responding, while i was making a left turn and the warning light came on. i made it back home and later that day i went to the mechanic and they told me that the power steering is electric and that its needs a new steering colum sensor and also they told me that there are three open recalls on my car and one addresses the electric power steering, so they directed me to the chevrolet dealer in the town i live in, and the dealer refuses to fix the recall for the power steering and says that if i want it fixed i have to pay $713.37. i thought that the any chevy dealership could fix the recalls on your chevy car.

For some time electronic power steering has been having issues. took to dealer on multiple occasions but they claimed they could not fix it. took vehicle again and now find their was extended coverage to cover this safety defect, however, i am 20,000 miles over where they want to cover this issue. (gm knew i was having this steering issue, however, never told me it could be fixed until after the expiration of their special coverage.) i had been reporting issues to both the dealer and gm customer service since approximately 29,000 miles. i gave up trying to get it fixed after dealer told me several times that there was nothing they could do. vehicle was in motion at highway speed and power steering stops working making control of the vehicle very difficlut.

Torque sensor for power steering failure. loss of power steering while driving. shaking of wheel when steering.

Power locks have only worked for front doors for as long as ive had the car, about a year..... over the past month - service air bag light came on shortly after starting the car one day. a few weeks later, service esc and traction control popped up after starting the car. now my power steering has gone out and does not reset upon restarting the car.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the electronic stability control indicator illuminated no matter what speed the vehicle was traveling. also, the power steering malfunctioned. the dealer (jim price chevrolet, 2150 seminole trail, charlottesville, va 22901, (434) 260-8542) stated that there were no recalls for the failures. the manufacturer stated that there were no recalls and provided a case number. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 51,000.

Takata recall i lost control of my 08 chevy malibu as it was in motion. driving to school the abs, brake, traction control and battery light turned on and the power steering locked. i had to forcefully turn the steering wheel to get out of traffics way and park somewhere to avoid an accident.

I was turning right at about 20 mph, the normal speed i turn at. my malibu slid and i couldn't turn the steering wheel. the car beeped at me and it said esc on the dash computer. i called about the recall for eps, and my car does not have one. kind of weird to see when others are recalled for this issue. i did have the power steering torque replaced in 2015. the car is still drivable, but to me i feel unsafe because the steering wheel now has a mind of its own when turning, and i cannot afford a replacement right now, as well as an accident.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet malibu. the contact had not experienced a failure before the vehicle was repaired per a manufacturer recall for the power steering. the dealer completed the recall repair, but the steering wheel seized without warning several times months later. the contact turn the vehicle off and back on to reset the computer, but the failure progressed. the contact was to check with the manufacturer to determine if they may be able to provide a repair solution. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 150,101.

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet malibu. while driving various speeds, the steering column made an abnormal knocking noise. the contact stated that the control arms, inner and outer tie rods, sway bar links, ball joints, front shocks and the axle were all replaced on the vehicle; however, the failure persisted. the vehicle was not diagnosed. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14e044000 (steering). the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 118,000.

My steering wheel shaking/vibrating while in park, in motion and while turning. was a recall on it. unfortunately i bought the car in 2015 and can only find that the recall was supposedly done. no one can tell me where, and i looked online and find that these electrical power assists have been replaced and still yet failed again. called chevrolet and they will do nothing--my case for my car "has been closed out"...therefore it will be $700.00 out of my pocket. is there any way to be sure a recall was done and/or find out if the parts they replaced were also defective? started acting up in aug./sept and has worsened in the last month. having it looked into while having a separate recall for break lamp malfunction done. oct. 12, 2016
