My vehicle has been running just fine until the other day when my vehicle out of nowhere went into 'limp mode' and i couldn't go over 20 mph. the notifications on my dash were 'eng pwr reduced' and 'service esc'. after looking online for possible causes, it is very clear that engine power reduced and service electrical system is an extremely common problem with chevy malibu's from older models to newer 2016-2018 models). not only is it common, but most people that experience the same issue i did, end up spending thousands trying to fix the problem. repairs range from changing the throttle body to sensors to battery cables & terminals. a few get lucky but for the majority of malibu owners, the problem returns within days or if they're lucky, they get a couple of months before the error codes come back. all one has to do is search the forums of cargurus.com or youtube for videos to find the countless posts of chevy malibu owners all experiencing the same problem. i personally read of many accounts where owners were on the highway when all of a sudden they have the engine power reduced. this is a huge safety concern and eventually someone or multiple people are going to get killed when they lose power at a high rate of speed. chevy is undoubtedly aware that there's a problem and are choowing to turn a blind eye instead of issuing a recall. what's it going to take for gm to admit there's a problem? multiple deaths? mechanics, even those that work for gm know there's an issue but don't know how to fix it permanently. i'm sure i'm not alone when i say i can't afford to pay thousands for guess work. i shouldn't have to even consider it because gm knows there's an issue and aren't doing anything about it. before people get killed, an investigation needs to be conducted & a recall issued!
When i start my car, the steering wheel is locked up and a message stating "power steering" comes across the main screen. my vehicle was stationary. the issue only continues to get worse over time, and the current recall for this doesn't seem to cover my vin number or yield an open recall. it is possible the person who had this car before me had the issue fixed and it is now happening again. only after restarting the vehicle multiple times am i able to turn the wheel all the while it shakes back and forth as if there's an issue with the steering column.
The vehicle stays on and running when i cut the car off and remove the key from the ignition. the vehicle will not turn off even after the key is removed and the doors and closed. my car is currently running and there are no keys in the ignition.
Takata recall transmission gear shifter cable keeps breaking i was getting ready to put my car in drive and the gear wasn't catching
On different occasions i have sat in my vehicle with out the keys in the ignition and the blower came on then shut back off on its own. i've seen my tail lights flip on and off car locked no one in it fuel gauge not working right as well.
My 2008 chevy malibu has door latch issues. when you close the doors, the latch will not connect and the door will fly back open. we need to keep playing with the locks for the door to eventually latch and lock. then it also sometimes does it from the inside and you cannot open the door from the inside or the outside and you will need to keep playing with it. one day, i had to role the window down to try to open the door from the outside because it wouldn't open from this inside. this is an extreme safety hazard because in the event something catastrophic happens and the door does not open or close they way its supposed to, it can be life threatening. expecially since i have a small son. this needs to be addressed and fast!
Front end & steering wheel will start hard vibrating no matter speed or road condition. after parking, motor off, going again it may or may not vibrate again. 3 mechanics can't find problem as it won't do it all the time. now what do i do?
Strong gas smell from rear of vehicle (interior/exterior). leak confirmed from fuel pump when in motion. also, vehicle hesitates when accelerated, usually after vehicle sits for an extended period of time.
Shifter get stif and hard to shift when warm

I have had nothing but problems with my electronic power steering amongst other things as well. the steering wheel locked up on me for the first time while parked. i turned the car off then back on & it went back to normal. i've been having issues with it making a sound in the steering wheel column & the steering wheel will move on it's own & will stick while i'm driving which makes it hard to control my vehicle. also there is other electrical problems causing security light to come on & my car will lock up & i can't start it. the "service esc" light came on around the same time as well. the seatbelt light will come on when everyone has their seatbelt on too. there is obviously something going on with wire connections or something. i'm aware of recalls on the same exact year make & model as my vehicle for the same issues i'm having but no recalls have been issued for my specific vehicle. i have owned nothing but gm vehicles & this one has been nothing but problems!
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet malibu. while driving 35 mph, the contact noticed that the steering wheel started to shake and became difficult to turn. al willie ford (1603 us-181 s, portland, tx 78374) diagnosed that the failure was due to a previous recall regarding the torque sensor. the technician informed the contact that the vehicle had already been repaired per the unknown recall. the manufacturer confirmed what the dealer stated and that the repair would cost $695 at the contact's expense. a vin search revealed that there were no recalls associated with the vehicle. the failure mileage was 130,000.
My locks are malfunctioning. at times, i am locked inside my vehicle. sometimes crawling around the vehicle and trying multiple doors will allow me to exit the vehicle. i consider this to be an extremely serious safety issue. i put my 4 year old son in this car and constantly worry about what would happen if we were involved in an accident or emergency situation.
When driving the steerin wheel shakes, and when sitting still it will turn on it's own.back and forth.
My 2008 chevy malibu ltz shuts down while driving and comes to s rolling stop. the steering locks up which makes it very difficult to steer it off the road. very dangerous situation.
The sunroof suddenly ripped from the car at hi speed( interstate); while airborne struck a winshield of a car behind me causing property damage ' the sunroof was closed and all windows rolled up so no pressure changes was not the factor .
When driving the car the transmission is not doing right. it is acting like it is not giving gas to move forward, skipping from 1st gear up to 4th gear like its in overdrive. almost caused a car accident today because of this issue. i tried to put the car in reverse to back up and it wouldn't back up in reverse. in order to move i had to push the gas and run up the rpm just to move out of the way. very unsafe. i haven't even had the car 2 months yet and this is happening. when i first got the car feb 27th 2017 this issue was not happening. please help with this issue. i am a single mom and 6 weeks away from having my second child, i need a safe vehicle for my children.
I was parking my car and i proceeded to put my car in reverse "r" but the gear control would not stay locked into position, nor would the car reverse. it was moving freely between gears but would not lock into position. i then placed the gear control back into park "p" where it would stay push the emergency brake down and turned the car off. when the tow company arrived he manually put the car "shift cable" back where it needed to go in order for the car the gear control to function properly, but once again it would not stay into place. thankfully i was in a parking lot when this occurred, but this is extremely dangerous, because if the car were to stop in the middle of the road and the shifter cable came loose i would have no way of putting the car into neutral or anything to get the car to a safe place. i had the car towed to my mechanic and he was able to partially rectify the situation.
I have had the transmission totally lock up and sound like braking plactic, had to replace the transmission. dashboad lights either do not work or flicker. fast flashing as if a bulb is out than it fixes itself. numbers running across the radio screen than stops.
Displays, esc off, traction control service, and engine power reduced. and when accelerating it doesn't really move . it takes a while to get speed up. and i was almost run over by a tractor trailer. this just started all of a sudden. and i have only had this car for about a year. it is stated that the malibu has recalls.
The check engine light came on so i took it to the shop and was told that it my catalytic converter and i only have 71000 mile on my car, shouldn't it be still under warranty? pleas advise
While driving on us-10, a high traffic freeway in phoenix az, the car reduced speed to about 30 mph. it would not accelerate above this rate! so my son was suddenly stuck in one of the passing lanes on a very busy four lane freeway. it was extremely dangerous trying to maneuver off the freeway. several codes appeared on the dash; check engine light, reduced engine power, service traction, and something about air bags. he managed his way off the freeway and 'limped' the car home.
I was driving my chevy malibu and started to fell my car start to shake violently and then my service esc was populating on the dash and traction control had been lost in the car. i was having difficulty breaking as if the abs break system was not working in the car.i got the car to the side of the road and ended up hitting a guard rail. i then found out that it was multiple recalls issued on my vehicle and i called the chevrolet customer support to discuss the current recall which appeared to be the issue. i was instructed that i could drop my car off at best chevrolet service center and they were aware of the recall and would assist me. i dropped my car off, explained the situation. they called me to let me know the recall wasn't the issue even thought everything i experienced was listed in the recall.
The power locks on my car are not functioning correctly. they do not lock/unlock when i need them to. i press the button on the car door and/ or on my keyless entry remote and some locks unlock/lock and some don't. it is more prevalent when the temperature is 60f and above. the issue started last summer. i thought it had subsided since it went away during the cooler months. now that it has warmed up again it has gotten worse. the problem use to be limited to the rear driver door. now it happens to any door with the exception of the drivers side door. while pressing the lock/unlock button the locks seem to want to work but they don't. this is especially dangerous for me since i have a 2 year old in the car with me 90% of the time. doing an internet search it seems that lots of people have this issue. owners having the same issues range from the 2008 to 2012 models similar to my car. investigations this issue and finding a root cause may be beneficial even if a recall is not issued. at least owners will know what is wrong and how to fix it. i was quoted $350 per door to fix the problem and was not given a guarantee that it would actually remediate it. which is quite ridiculous.
The turn indicator switch does not hold the signal when turning left, does when turning right but does not switch off. this began after getting the steering recall fixed.
I was attempted to put my 6 month old daughter in the car. i tried to unlock the doors with my keyless entry and all but the rear passenger door would unlock. even when using the unlock button on one of the front car does would not open. i had to climb over the seat to unlock the door to get my daughter in the car. over the course of the next year this would randomly happen to that specific door. on thursday may 7th, 2015, this same issue happened again, but now both car locks in the rear were not opening with the remote entry or the unlock button on the front doors. this to me is a safety concern. especially with a young child that is in the back seat. i searched the problem and there has been a lot of people complaining on online forums about this happening to their brand new cars and used cars over the years. i bought my car used so i do not know if this was an issue with it in the past.
Driver's door would not latch shut and door would freely open. after pulling the door shut multiple times it finally latched and i could drive. when trying to exit the vehicle the inside door handle would not open the door. i had to roll my power window down to open the door from the outside. after i got out the door would not latch when i tried to close it. after multiple attempts the door would still not latch shut and i had to physically hold the door shut the rest of the way home where it never would latch. research online indicates that there are numerous reports that the door latch/lock assemblies fail which doesn't seem safe if you can't exit the car or if it were to come unlatched while driving.
There are five recalls on my vehicle and was told that i would be notified when parts came in. at this point there were only 2 recalls and now there are 5. i have yet to receive any recall letters on my vehicle. in the case that no one knows what the recalls are here they are: nhtsa campaign number: 14e044000, 14v252000, 14v22400, 14v153000, 12v460000, 14v153, 12v460. these are the numbers that i have found on recall websites. i found out about the recalls from the news. i have never received any letters in regard to these recalls. when will something be done? i am scared to drive my car and i need my car. please respond to me in a timely matter this is the 9th time i have tried to get information on when my car will be fixed. *tr
Steering wheel shakes intermittently throughout each day for approximately the past 50 days as of may 20, 2011. sometimes occurs when car is initially turned on (shakes quickly to the left and right as if a little child was playing with the steering wheel). shaking will also take place spontaneously while driving at various speeds. on may 10, 2011 passenger side power locks began to malfunction-would not lock or open when using power button inside car or using remote. locking and unlocking had to be done manually by pulling up or pushing down lock.
The car had an issue with the syatem setting a code to check transaction and esc and the brake lights would stick on. this happened about once every 2 or 3 months. now that the gm recall has been done it is setting these same codes 2 or 3 times a day. but instead of my brake lights being on, the brake lights don't work, my cruise control doesn't work, my tail lights don't work the car still says service transaction and esc daily. this recall has made my problem much worse. it is dangerous to drive as i never know if my tail lights and brake lights are working or if my antilocks or stabilization systems work. gm needs to find a different solution to this problem.
The door lock actuator failed on all doors. this is a common problem and should be a recall with gm. check the forums to see the number of people with the same problem. the doors will not unlock/lock from key fob or from driver's door panel.
