I took my car in to get repaired for all of the vehicle recalls. they had my car for about 6-7 months and then when i got it back i have had nothing but problems. my lights go out every couple of weeks and or work only when they want too, then my radio would only work when it wanted too and now my windows only work when they want too and it's driving funny. yesterday i went to replace another dtr light and while doing so we noticed all the wires are melted. one of the recalls was for the transmission. shift cable which in turn states that if it was to become loose or detach or etc would melt my wiring harness and dtr lights and etc. i have 4 kids and this is my only vehicle and instead of fixing the recalls they made it worse and now me and my children s lives have been put in danger. what is going to happen when my car starts on fire and i can't get my kids out or my self? i need this fixed asap for free before i get a lawyer and it seems no one at any gm location wants to address these issues or return a phone call.

There are so many issues with this car and i am not at all happy. just received 2 recalls on it for the electrical system and for the transmission shift cable. there are issues with the steering having a clunking sound and now i have to replace a tire because of it. tires were purchased last october. i have read several complaints on this specific vehicle and other recalls. my son has to use this car to go back and forth to work which is only 7 miles one way, and i do not even trust it that far. we get told we will be contacted when the parts for the recalls are available, meanwhile something can happen and if it does you may just have a lawsuit on your hands. i just want to give the car back and get something else without having to add the remaining balance due to a new loan. *tr

My brake lights go on after about 7 seconds when i am driving and not touching the brakes. the brake lights go off when i apply the brakes and then go back on when i am stopped. this is very dangerous and when i entered my vin it does not show up on the recall list. i also have the issues with power steering going out and have also had to replace the shift cable last fall when i could not put the car in park- it was ripped in half. cruise control stopped working years ago. power mirrors do not work. check air bag reminder goes on randomly. this car is a piece of garbage and very unsafe. *tr
I am having issues with my transmission shift cable. says its in park but the vehicle is not in park. i am also having issues with my brake lights go out when i step on the brakes and come back on when i let off the brake. being told my vehicle is not part of the ongoing gm recalls for my model year and make. *tr

I have a 2007 chevy malibu and am having problems with my brake lights. currently my brake lights don't illuminate when i step on the brake pedal, but will illumnate when i take my foot off the brake pedal. sometimes brake lights will stay on during my entire drive whether or not i'm using the brake pedal. happens randomly, with no discernable causes. article in fox news dated 3/13/2013 ( http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2013/03/13/bad-brake-lights-could-force-recall-over-one-million-gm-cars/#ixzz2nus7qu5s ) indicates nhtsa is actively researching possible recalls, but calls to my dealer and gm customer care we of no use. both my dealer and gm customer care told me there were no active recalls, and that i just need to get the problem fixed myself and then i could request reimbursement at a future date if any recall did happen. it's disappointing that a company as large as gm wouldn't proactively help their customers when a known problem exists in a large number of vehicles. also mentioned in this article were problems concerning the cruise control. my cruise control will randomly stop working, or not even allow me the option of using cruise. this is not as big of a safety concern as the brake light issue, but again, mention of this problem occuring is one more reason i believe gm should be more proactive in helping their customers deal with the specific issues and concerns already being address/investigated by the nhtsa. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that when depressing the brake pedal, the brake lights failed to illuminate and illuminated erroneously when the brake pedal was not being depressed. the contact stated that the failure occurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting , service brakes, hydraulic , vehicle speed control). the approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the cruise control was activated at 50 mph. the cruise control then became inoperable as the brake lights independently illuminated without the brakes being depressed. the failure recurred at any speed being driven by the contact. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 90,000. updated 12/20/13*cn
In 2012, i was having issues with the cruise control disengaging and refusing to re-engage. i noticed that the brake lights would be lit without the brakes being activated, as long as the vehicle was not in "park" (automatic transmission). the chevrolet dealer applied dielectric grease to a connector in november 2012, and the problem went away. the problem reappeared this year (2013), including an instance when the brake lights did not light when the brakes were activated! the dealer charged me over $250 in parts and over $300 in labor to replace two parts. on my way to the dealer, i saw another malibu with the same body design with the same problem. this is obviously a design, part, or manufacturing defect, and i should not have to pay to fix a faulty design, replace a faulty part, or due to poor manufacturing. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that when driving at any speed and the brake pedal was depressed, the brakes lights would illuminate and remain illuminated at all times. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer or a private mechanic. the dealer was notified of the failure who stated that any diagnostic or repair on the vehicle was at the contact's expense and offered no assistance. the manufacturer was notified of the failure who advised the contact that there were no recalls for the failure. the vin was not available. the failure and the current mileage was 40,000. updated 11/15/12*lj the consumer stated on an online search it was recommended to have a mechanic to clean the bcm connectors. this is only a temporary fix. updated 11/19/2012 *js updated 11/27/12*lj updated 11/29/2012 *js
Brake lights are working backwards! when brake peddle is pushed the break lights do not come on. when you are not pressing the break peddle; the brake lights are on. cruise control doesn't engage and the gear shift is very difficult to move into place. of course the brake light situation is the most hazardous!! after multiple shop visits, attempted fixes and even a call to gm; (which they lied about never having this issue on other makes/model/years) there was a recall in 2009 for malibu's that had this exact issue and supposedly all gm dealerships were to know how to fix this issue should this "problem arise in other models". out of the 5 dealers i called explaining my issues not one knew how to fix the problem. did a lot of research on my own and explained it to a dealer of how others had fixed the issue. that worked and fixed every one of the problems i was having. now, in march 2013 the issues are starting again. first it starts with the gear shift being very hard to shift gears into place. then the cruise stops engaging. hopefully the brake light issue wont happen again. *tr
