Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the vehicle was serviced per nhtsa campaign number: 15v064000 (steering), but the remedy failed to repair the vehicle. after the repair, the steering wheel inadvertently moved on its own. the dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

While driving my malibu i heard a alarm ding from the dic and the banner read steering then my electric power steering failed as i was driving into a underground parking lot going down the helix to another level i narrowly missed ramming into the side wall as it is a tight turn. had i not been holding on to the wheel tightly i would have hit the wall . i don't think my wife or daughter could have held the wheel to avoid a crash. i feel this should be recalled and is a major safety issue.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet malibu. while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle steered to the left without warning. the failure recurred several times. the power steering indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to faulkner chevrolet of lancaster (717-299-0961, located at 2000 bennet ave, lancaster, pa 17601), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the dealer stated that the vehicle was not included in a recall. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 188,000.

Our 2007 chevrolet mailbu, purchased in july 2017, used, has begun to have a severe steering issue. steering comes close to "locking" up, very hard to steer, mainly at slow speeds, but unpredictably and without warning. power steering warning light comes on during the problem. veh. has just over 70,000 miles on it. took it to chevrolet dealer. service manager advised that our car had been covered by gm special coverage # 15356, for this specific issue (electric power steering/torque sensor) but car was just beyond 10 yrs in service. he also noted that a recall had been issued by gm (# 14772), again for the exact issue, but our car's build date fell "in-between" covered build dates. manager acknowledged that this issue is very common with our year and model, and similar models (pont g6 etc), and was a severe safety hazard. repair estimate is just over $500. manager contacted gm corp office to request coverage and was denied (case #: 8-3581641655). this veh is not safe to operate at this time.

for the past 3-4 weeks i have been having issues with my electric power steering giving out. sometimes when i'm driving it very hard to keep the steering straight, the wheel try's to send me into the other lane. i've been doing research i've found that there are many others with the same issue.

When making a turn, the front of the car make terrible popping noise, which is a severe safety problem. this is very common. http://www.carcomplaints.com/chevrolet/malibu/2007/steering/clunking_popping_noise_from_steering.shtml

While driving you can feel steering tightening up and a slight hum especially making left and right turns, gas gauge goes up and down from full to empty constantly, engine light stays on because of gas cap replaced 4 times works for awhile longest was about a month, also stays on because of duel gauge fluctuating constantly.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet malibu. while driving 20 mph, the power steering malfunctioned. the contact stated that the steering wheel became very stiff and was extremely difficult to turn. the vehicle was diagnosed as having an electrical failure, which caused the power steering to fail. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 90,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet malibu. while driving 40 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. also, while driving, the steering seized. the contact was unable to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

When the car is running but not moving the car chimes and a power steering warning messages comes across the warning system on the dash. the power steering turns off and will not work unless the car is turned off and restarted. doing this appears to clear the message and turn the power steering back on at this time but it has become a reoccurring problem. there is a recall associated with this year and model but it does not show that this particular vin is covered.

As accelerating and turning vehicle steering wheel locks and oversteers, sometimes it under steers, occasionally as accelerating forward is very loose and all over the road. multiple times has almost caused an accident. i do a lot of driving on the highway and do not feel safe with the the steering like that.

Power steering

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the eps warning indicator flashed and the steering wheel seized several times without warning. the dealer was notified of the failure and indicated that the vehicle was excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 15v064000 (steering). the dealer was to schedule an appointment to inspect and diagnose the failure. the manufacturer also indicated that the vehicle was excluded from the power steering recall and provided no solution. the approximate failure mileage was 137,063.

In april of 2015 while driving on the interstate surrounded by other vehicles the electric power steering sensor failed. the power steering warning flashed on the in dash information center and searing the vehicle was nearly impossible. i was fortunately able just avoid several collisions with other vehicles. the following day i brought the vehicle to the dealership to have the sensor replaced. this was not covered under any warranty or recall and i covered the cost of this. less than two years later this same issue has occurred again. i was driving on back roads that turned in several directions. going around one corner, following the speed limit the power steering failed. i was unable to control the vehicle and went into ditch on the opposite side of the road. luckily there were no other vehicles involved. i contacted chevy and was told that they will not to anything to correct the issue, refused to allow me to speak with anyone else and hung up on me. their suggestion was to contact the dealership that replaced it to see if the would give me a discount for the defective part and claimed it was normal wear and tear. with an electric power steering there is minimal wear as to it is all electric components and they should not have malfunction after being replaced less than two years ago. this is an ongoing problem for this make, model and year and is a serious safety concern.

Takata recall. . while driving the power steering will completely shut off. once the car is turn off and turned back on the power steering will turn back on and stay on for a short time then will turn back off. this will happen while the car is stationary along with in motion during town or on the highway.

Power steering is going out on the road can cause accident because all of a sudden can go out an cause accident.

2007 chevrolet malibu. consumer writes in regards to power steering letter states power steering diagnostic/repairs at no cost, dealership refusal to repair power steering due to mileage restrictions. *smd the consumer stated the steering went out three times. *jb

When driving earlier in the day 2/18 the steering wheel would wobble and vibrate when the car came to a stop or when i would turn the wheels. this happened just a few times - it was very subtle. went to work and after sitting in parking lot for 5 hours i noticed the power steering message on the display board was lite when i started the car. there was no puddle under the car and i had an extremely difficult time in maneuvering my car as i was driving home. searched online for an explanation and came across a recall notice. i did not receive any previous notification from the car manufacture.

Had recall work done and seen this was in it. and wasn't fixed.

As i was driving this evening on my way home the power steering shut off in my car. after the first time it happened i pulled over at a nearby restaurant and restarted my car but the power steering went out again within 5 min again after restarting the car. the steering wheel shakes on its on rapidly right after i start the car and it is idle...on the dash power steering comes up with a ding sound just as it is about to go out. i'm unsure if chevy will cover to repair this free of cost but i think it should be fixed for free considering this is highly dangerous for both myself the operator of the vehicle as well as other drivers who are on the road! *tr

Power steering randomly and frequently stops working; starts working again (usually) after restarting the car, which is not always easy or safe while driving on the highway. happened 4 times on the way to work today; has been happening occasionally in the past but is dangerously frequent now. i understand this is common among 2007 chevy malibu's, but my vin was not on the recall list... *tr

Power steering shut down and caused me to wreck my car

When i turned the vehicle on a message comes up on the dash that says "power steering" and i have a sudden loss of power steering. the vehicle was stationary at the time however the power steering could go out while in motion. it is the exact description of campaign recall number 15v064000 however there are zero recalls associated with my vin number. *tr

This is issue has been happening since late december and has progressively gotten worse! while driving (whether on highway at 60+ mph or in town doing under 40mph), power steering will go out multiple times; along with fuel gage will consistently show empty. also while driving the airbag indication light will go from airbag on to air bag off several times. the only thing that remedies the power steering going out is to turn the car off and then back on, sometimes more than once. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet malibu. on several occasions, the electronic power steering failed to operate as intended. in addition, the power steering warning indicator illuminated. the contact felt excessive movement in the steering wheel. it was diagnosed that the electronic power steering needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the issue. the approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

The power steering assist randomly fails. there is a safety recall for this, #14772, and i called the manufacturer at the number listed, 1-800-222-1020, and they advised me my vin was not covered! yet, the vehicle exhibits that exact symptoms of #14772. several times this has occurred while driving and it nearly caused me to have two different head on collisions! i was driving at 30 mph and the power steering quit and jerked to the left. it made me cross the lane into oncoming traffic. the other drivers abruptly stopped while i got my car back under control. the only way to get it back was to turn off the ignition and turn it back on. i have been told that the total repair cost is over $1200! i cannot afford this. i can not stop driving my vehicle either. this should be covered under the recall at their expense as it is their faulty product. unfortunately, i do have to keep driving close to an hour to get to work through heavy dallas traffic and by them denying the repairs, they are putting a lot of people at risk of serious injury or even death. please have them honor the recall for my vin so we can all be safer out there. thank you. *tr

Power steering fails intermittently while driving making the car hard to control. while this is happening lights begin to dim and brighten and the traction control light on the dash flashes on and off. this happens everytime i drive the car since i passed 80,000 miles. i am at 90,000 now and it is getting more common. i have seen online that this is a very common problem. *tr

Steering wheel jerks to the left when driving. power steering goes out while driving. it does this while in park as well as when driving at any speed. when turning to the left it pulls it further causing me to overturn. when turning to the right it pulls back to the left. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced a loss of power. after manually restarting the vehicle, it operated normally. the steering warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the cause of the failure could not be replicated. the vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 15v064000 (steering). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was not provided.

Chevrolet malibu - power steering assist failure the problem started when we noticed the car's steering twitching and shaking without having any hands on the wheel and this would occur while the vehicle was in park or in gear (drive, reverse, etc.). later that night after starting the vehicle, the "power steering" warning light appeared on the information display panel (the screen located just above the radio). at this point it required tremendous effort/strength to turn the car even at low speeds. i think this is a serious safety hazard. *tr

This car is losing electronic power steering while in motion. it will kick back in once car is turned off and turned on again but again will eventually lose it. also, steering wheel vibrates when the vehicle is started and is stationary. i have video i can send as well

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet malibu. while driving 70 mph, the power steering failed after the warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v064000 (steering). the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 165,000.

When accelerating out of a curve or turn, the steering wheel jerks in the opposite direction. also experienced door locks unlocking and locking while driving down the road, and horn fuse keeps going out. *tr

The power steering stops working and the steering wheel become difficult to steer. prior to this occurring, a beep and then a prompt on the dashboard show that an issue with the power steering is happening. i did some research and came across recall #14772, which is exactly the issue i'm dealing with. however, my vehicle does not display recall #14772 when i conduct a search.

The power steering went out suddenly while my son was driving the car on the freeway @ 60 mph, and the word power steering appeared on the radio display, the power steering has not worked since, i checked my vin# to see if the car was included on the gm. recall but it was not, the car has only 78000 miles, i think it should have been. *tr

Power locks doesn't work. windows goes down sometimes if the driver door is open at a 45 degree angle. steering wheel first begun to shake by itself and turn whichever direction then eventually locked completely while driving! can't turn the steering wheel in any direction at all.

We bought my car from a police auction in sand springs. there was not really any paperwork, so we had nothing to go on, but what the auctioneer told us. we found out that the gas gage will not read any fuel it just stays on e, and that is 600.00 to fix, and then about 4 months now the power steering will just go out and you can not steer at all. if you are a man you can turn it, but if you are a woman or young teen there is no way you can make a corner, and you will get in an accident. you are unaware when it will just happened, but a bell in the car does start ringing, and reading power steering. this is very dangerous and it sounds just like recall number 14v153000, but my year is not on it. please make it a recall for 2007 also. they told me that will cost 1,000.00 to fix the power steering. really...if you can help in anyway i would appreciate it.

I intermittently lose power steering, now it is happening every time i drive the vehicle and it is not safe. the wheel begins to take over for its self, so to speak. the wheel will shake some times aggressively enough to be pulling me whichever way it pleases. it even does this at an idle, the vin is pulling up no recall but the articles on this subject say it is included in the expansion of the recall. i just bought the vehicle sept 24, 2016

I was driving on the highway and the steering started to become very difficult if i wanted to switch lanes or if there was a curve in the road. i took the vehicle to an auto repair shop and they diagnosed the issue as the power steering assist motor was starting to fail. they told me that if it was not fixed, it could completely fail and cause my vehicle to get into an accident.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet malibu. while stationary and driving various speeds, the electronic power steering failed. the contact stated that the steering wheel seized on more than one occasion. the contact pulled the vehicle over to the right side of the road and restarted the vehicle to correct the failure. a dealer was not notified. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue and stated that the warranty mileage coverage period had ended. the failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet malibu. while driving 60 mph, the steering failed and the steering warning sensor illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. the failure continued to recur. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer for a second diagnostic testing where it was determined that there was a loss of the electric power steering assist. also, the steering staff torque sensor failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 127,947.

A few months ago, we purchased a 2007 chevy malibu for our military daughter to take to her air force base in tx. the used car had less than 50,000 miles and was owned by an older lady. we expected many years of safe, reliable transport for our airman! unfortunately, we noticed steering problems as soon as we purchased the vehicle. the power steering would just randomly go in and out. it is very unnerving. we found a couple of steering recalls related to the 2007 malibu, so we took the car to a dealer in hillsboro, il. they said the recall work had already been performed, and they could do nothing for us. we tried another dealer in highland, il. they kindly re-did the recall work related to a power steering sensor, but unfortunately were still able to replicate the problem afterwards. they said, without a doubt, this car's steering problem is related to the recall. they presumed that having bad parts in the car for too long has caused issues elsewhere in the steering. however, to replace the steering parts that could be causing the problem was going to be over $2,000!! my military daughter cannot afford that, and we should not have to pay to replace faulty parts caused by a known recall. gm knows the steering in this car is problematic and should be fixing it! as it stands, the car is unsafe but must still be driven. is there anything you can do to help us? thank you in advance! Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet malibu. while driving 25 mph, the vehicle lost steering power and the power steering warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the failure was due to the torque sensor assembly. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 78,000. updated 09/06/16*lj *tr

Terrible clunking sound in the front end when turning the steering wheel when vehicle is in motion. even when vehicle is parked and if steering is moved left or right you can hear the clucking noise. my mechanic said its intermediate shaft issue. why there is no recall? so many people have the same problem.
