Loss of power steering . steering wheel vibrates
While driving in normal conditions, electric steering assist goes out making it difficult to control the vehicle. if it happens while in a corner it could result in a collision.
My 2007 chevy malibu was on the highway yesterday, and all of a sudden the chime starting going off and the power steering locked up, as well as the brakes. this was a very scary experience for me, especially because i was going around a corner when this happened and i was at risk of losing my life due to the power steering cutting out randomly. i think they should look into this more as the malibu has always had an issue with random electrical and power steering issues that could cause fatal accidents and injuries. note* the video was taken about 5 minutes after the incident, the steering wheel was still moving by itself and was cutting in and out.*
Car steering locks and i can't control the car. it's hard to turn and i have to pull over. i turn the car off then turn it on and it will work, but then it will do the same thing. i have almost crashed as i drive a long distance from home to school to work. i called and went to a dealership and they say my vin isn't covered by the steering control sensor recall that is posted for cars 2006-2007, yet my car is having this same issue and it is very dangerous.
Electric power steering assist stopped working. it rebooted when we turned the engine off and restarted. but it went out again and restarted when turning it back on. i called the dealer and they informed me that the recall ended in 2016. i never received a recall notice to have it fixed. i feel that gm should take responsibility for this hazard. my wife was terrified when it stopped working at 45 miles per hour with no warning.
We recently were driving the car when we lost power steering control. this sounds very familiar to nhsta # 15v06400. chevrolet said our car is not covered but our mechanic said that the issue in the recall was exactly what the problem was
Gm "special warranty" coverage (but not a recall), 15356. received documentation attesting to the identified problem. document advises not to take to dealer unless symptoms manifest themselves as outlined in document. now, symptoms are clearly evident; electronic power steering has failed. gm refuses to cover repair because the "special coverage" time limit has elapsed. unsatisfactory. a recognized manufacturing defect deserves to be repaired at the expense of the manufacturer, not shuffled off to alternative descriptive language (special coverage) which allows them to abrogate their responsibilities under an artificial time limit. car is unsafe to drive, therefore a liability. gm is deliberately shirking their maintenance and fiduciary responsibilities and allowing for acknowledged defective cars to continue to be operated on roads in north america. as the opening line of my "recall" letter professes: your satisfaction is very important to us. my reply: my satisfaction is conditional on operating a vehicle that is safe to use; acknowledged safety defects that go unrepaired seriously erode this owner satisfaction as such.
After having a steering shaft and a steering angle sensor replaced under a technical service bulletin in august 28,2015, i now have to replace the same two parts that were previously fixed out of pocket. my car is over 150,000 miles and it has been past the ten year pro-visionary. the two parts that i had replaced in 2015 have a manufacturer warranty of 12 months. my complaint is that i do not want to pay the 1,400 dollars to replace these parts when it is a known fact that this a common issue and has been recalled in the past. there is zero chance the same two parts need replaced just do to wear and tear in just two years.

When i was driving on a city street getting read to pick up my sibiling from schooli received a notification on the radio display that said power steering off then it was very difficult to turn my wheel and almost got in an accident. this happened nearby an elementary school. the power steering went off right when i was about to make a turn. also, the air bag for the drivers side has consistently been going off for the past couple of months and i receive alerts through the radio display.

2007 chevrolet malibu. consumer writes in regards to steering column safety recall. consumer is seeking reimbursement for repairs made to vehicle related to an expired safety recall. *ld the consumer stated the manufacturer notified, but did not offer any assistance. *js
Electronic power steering failure upon start of the vehicle or while driving. you must turn the vehicle off and restart it to reactivate the power steering. steering wheel will also move back and forth on its own while the vehicle is stationary such as at a stop sign.
While driving home from work one evening, my car made an alarming chiming noise to signal me that something was wrong. i then saw the words "power steering" appear on my display. at that very moment my steering wheel froze up to where i basically could not move it any more. i could not turn left or right, which forced me to keep straight. i was in the middle of traffic and had to keep going until i was able to make a stop, turn my car off and back on, then it allowed me to drive home. from that point on, my steering wheel itself has began to twist and turn back and forth while vibrating, with no assistance from me, and it does this all while i'm driving. i'm forced to basically hold the steering wheel with a tight grip to keep it straight. since that day, my power steering has went out in the middle of driving about 4 or 5 times, and more than that if you count when i first start it up in the morning. i called the dealership to express my concern in which they informed me that they serviced my vehicle for this problem on 11/26/16... which was a little over a year ago, so i am no longer under warranty. when i took my car in, due to a postcard i received about a few recalls, i was not having any problems with the power steering what so ever. i am about 3 months short of a year and i do not understand if this problem was fixed properly, how it would become a problem for me so quick! i have 2 children i am responsible for and i rely heavily on my vehicle. from reading online, this is a serious, common, and very well documented problem. as stated before, at the time they say that they serviced it, it was not an issue for me. so is it common for this type of work to go bad within a year? i really need my car and can not afford to pay the high cost for this repair, but most important i can not risk driving my children around in a vehicle that is extremely unsafe. i need help
I first encountered this problem when my vehicle was stationary. my vehicle was sitting in my driveway and the message 'power steering' came on the dashboard and i had no power steering assist. i immediately looked up the issue and found that there was a recall for my vehicle so i was hopeful about the situation. i called my dealership and was told that there was a supposed 'warranty' for my vehicle and i was out of the mileage & time period for my vehicle. and additionally the recall was never given to my vehicle. it doesn't make any sense to me that there is a specific recall for this model of chevy malibu's and i own one and my car just so happens to not have the recall. i've called chevy customer service and they insist they are not liable for this and it will be an out of pocket expense. my power steering has cut out on me on the highway and poses a very dangerous driving experience. i would like to settle this before an accident occurs. the photo that i've listed below is an invoice from the dealership when they diagnoased my car and said it would be out of pocket.
Lost power steering suddenly while driving. although chevy recall the 2006-2007 malibu for that issue, mine car is not on that list. very sad.

2007 chevy malibu, power steering goes out all the time while driving. steering wheels moves to the left all on its own, then there will be a ding and power steering will display across the radio screen, power steering goes out completely. there is a recall for 2007 malibu's for this exact same problem, yet my vin number does not fall under the recall..
One day as i was driving, my steering wheel got tight. i turned the car off and turned it back on and it stopped for a few days. now my steering wheel is completely locked up. there were several recalls on these type of cars, but there isn't one on mine. my car isn't safe to drive. if there were recalls on other cars because of the same problem, then there should be one on my car. i also shouldn't have to pay to get it fixed because this is a reoccurrence. getting an electric power steering fixed isn't easy!
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet malibu. while driving 60 mph, the contact noticed a "tugging" with the steering wheel that lasted for one day. while backing out of a parking space, the contact stated that the steering wheel was very difficult to turn and she did not drive the vehicle home. the dealer was contacted (lariche chevrolet, 215 e main, cross findlay, oh 45840) and stated that there was a recall on the failure for the same make and model vehicle; however, the contact's vehicle was not included because it was manufactured at a different location. the location where the vehicle was manufactured issued a special coverage warranty to have the power steering repaired. due to the warranty being expired since 2016, the contact was no longer eligible to have the failure repaired under the warranty. the manufacturer was notified and confirmed the dealer's statement. there were no recalls associated with the vin. the failure mileage was 119,000.
Whenever driving the vehicle in the straight road i didnt face any problem, but when im taking a turn i need to bit accelerate, when i do that, the steering wheel gets automatically force straightens itself making it to impossible to turn it while accelerating. i checked out with dealer he is saying im out of warranty so i have to bear the price of the repair incurred by the chevvy. im the second owner of the car i didn't know at the time i got it. here in nhtsa website, i found that there no recalls for this model and vin for steering wheel. please kindly look into the issue before it may turn into fatal accident to myself or others.

Power steering goes out constantly while driving and sometimes even when i turn the vehicle on. contacted gm about the issue because after doing some research, i came across articles where there were recalls on the specific make, model, and year because of the power steering going out. gm personnel said because my vin number didn't match the factories where the defective parts or what not came from that there wasn't much they could do unless i pay out of pocket to have diagnostics run on it to see if that is the actual problem even though the power steering issue i'm having now is the same exact reason there was a recall in the first place.

Recently experienced loss of steering power in my vehicle more than once while driving at a low speed. it has happened with my teenage son behind the wheel. turned the car off and restarted to clear out the warning on the radio display. the steering wheel is also shaking/vibrating while the car is sitting idle. i did an online chat with chevy. of course my vehicle was not on the recall list. i have ~146,400 miles on my car. just found out there was some type of special assist in place. of course that option expired for me on 9-1-2017. from what i'm hearing, this will be a costly repair. the repair will probably cost more than what the car is worth. a case number was assigned to me. i have an official diagnosis from the dealer in order to determine if there's any type of assistance for this repair. with so many complaints in place, not sure why gm is not allowing malibu owners to take their cars to a local dealer for repair at no cost to them. age of the car should't matter with an obvious ongoing problem.
