Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet malibu. while attempting to turn out of a parking spot, the steering wheel became extremely difficult to turn. the vehicle was taken to jim taylor chevrolet (139 grimshaw st, rayville, la 71269) where it was diagnosed that the power steering control module failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and transferred the contact to nhtsa. the approximate failure mileage was 161,900.

The steering wheel shakes by itself even when parked and idling. when starting the car up the alarm comes on (ding, ding, ding) and the power steering is no longer. i have to turn the car off and restart it. this has gotten worse and am having a mechanic look at it but in my eyes this is a manufacturer issue based off of the research i've gathered online. most mechanics i brought it to never have seen this problem before.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet malibu. while driving various speeds, the "power steering" warning message displayed. the vehicle made a "dinging" noise and the steering wheel became stiff. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 114,000.

My 2005 malibu is experiencing intermittent failure of the power steering assist, and a related "jerking" in the steering wheel which stops when the power steering goes out. sometimes the power steering is out when the car is started, but other times it has happened while driving. if this were to happen during a turn or on a curve, it could possibly cause an accident. i didn't own the car at the time, but it was serviced under the march 2014 recall for this exact problem in november 2017. because of this, and because the warranty period is over, gm is unwilling to give further assistance for this dangerous fault.

Power steering started failing. usually it would come back if i restarted the car. today it has failed and not returned. usually seemed to fail when i first started the car, but later it seemed like it failed as i drove the car.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet malibu. while driving, the power steering made a clicking noise and pulled to the left. the power steering warning indicator illuminated. while idling at a stop sign, the steering wheel bounced and made a clicking noise. once the contact resumed driving, the steering wheel pulled to the left. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 155,000.

Steering wheel moves on own, knocking noise and now power steering gone.

Steering began shaking and within a week it has gone out, several recalls on the same year car and dealership wont do anything. power steering even moves the wheel while driving and sometimes will almost be impossible to turn. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced a loss of power steering. the power steering warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 14v153000(steering). the vin was not included. the failure mileage was 172,000.

Power steering column and motor went out after having this recall corrected. it is now out again, just 2 weeks over a year after having it corrected and gm will not pay to fix it. this creates a huge safety issue in my opinion. also, the brake lamps continue to malfunction which were also corrected by a recall issue but continue to go bad. *tr

At first my power steering warning come on and the wheel wouldn't turn i could take the key out and let it set a bit and the next time i started it no issues, then it started with the steering wheel bouncing horrible when i was at a stop light driving there's a terrible grinding in the steering that has only gotten worse and now it does it all the time and locks up while in park.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet malibu. while driving various speeds, the vehicle inadvertently veered to the left or right and the power steering warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle also lost all power steering ability. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer stated that vin was not included in a power steering recall. the failure mileage was 191,000.

While driving vehicle steering warning light will come on and you only have manual steering which is very difficult to turn the vehicle and ultimately requiring you to stop.

While i was driving on the interstate my power steering went out very difficult to drive car or even make turns and paralllel park also electrical system comes and goes when it pleases i

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet malibu. while driving 30 mph, the steering wheel seized and became difficult to maneuver. the power steering warning indicator illuminated and the brakes failed to respond. when the vehicle was being refueled, the fuel spewed out the fuel filler pipe. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v153000 (steering). the failure mileage was 295,000.

The vehicle has a recall that is open on it. chevrolet and the local dealership have told us that it will cost $300 to complete the recall due to the steering knuckle needing to be removed and it is seized. they said if it wasn't seized it wouldn't cost us anything. however the dealership stated to do the recall it is required that the steering knuckle has to be taken apart.

While driving down the road in a straight stretch on saturday, steering completely broke. steering wheel can spin around and around and seems to not be attached to anything. no warning at all and no way to steer car. thank goodness we were in a straight stretch and only going approx. 25 mph. could have been much worse if i was traveling speed limit and came upon a curve. had vehicle towed to dealership. dealership says my intermediate steering shaft is broke. how does that happen??

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet malibu. the contact received a recall notification for nhtsa campaign number: 14v153000 (steering). the part needed to perform the recall repair required another part to be replaced, which was not included in the recall. the manufacturer was notified. the contact had not experienced a failure. parts distribution disconnect.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet malibu. while pulling out of a parking spot and turning the vehicle, the steering wheel made an abnormal noise. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign numbers: 14v252000 (electrical system, electronic stability control, exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic, vehicle speed control), 14v224000 (power train), and 14v153000 (steering). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was not available. parts distribution disconnect.

While driving on highway at 60+mph or upon merging from on-ramp, upon quick acceleration to change lanes, power steering is lost and 3 alarm bells go off in car but no lights appear on dash nor any message on radio. this has happened to me multiple times. i am able to regain steering control once i remove my foot from the accelerator. i am afraid of accelerating too quickly as i may loose complete control & crash into other vehicles or medians/guard rails. i use highways daily to commute to work, and being afraid to accelerate is just as dangerous because cannot enter highway at appropriate speed, which could cause a crash a well. i've had all recall work done on my vehicle but this sounds similar to the 2014 sudden loss of power steering recall - nhtsa #14v153000. taking car to the shop this weekend to have it inspected because i don't feel safe.

Power steering locks up during acceleration and service air bag light never goes off, and after new brake rotors/pads the brake light stays on. brake fluid light on with full fluid.

No power steering. its like there is no steering at all. hard to turn.

Power steering went out and the steering wheel turns 360 degrees but the tires don't turn. fortunately the car was being parked so no one was injured. dealership thinks the whole power steering bracket needs replacing and quotes approx. $1,000 to replace.

On 28 feb 2016 around 11:50 am, me, my two daughters and my mom was headed north on i-185. while riding we were talking about what we was going to put in the house we had just gotten approved for that friday and in mid conversation as i'm going around the curve my car goes over the fog line and i couldn't get the car back into my lane and before i knew it i hit the median (wall) on the left side, my hood flew up and the car bounced off the wall and all i really remember from that point is smashing on break but apparently the car kept going, hit the right side of the wall and came to a stop there. next thing i know a man was waking me up asking am i okay and said help was on the way. i heard my daughter crying for her sister because she wouldn't move so i get out the car and began to get them out to assure they're okay and everything else is really a blur. i remember a man helping my mom out the car as me and my kids sat on the ground waiting for help and i remember going to the hospital with my kids.

Takata recall: steering. my car had the steering column replaced over a year. on 11/18/2015 i was driving on the fwy when my steering wheel got hard on the curve, was a very scary situacion. i took the car to the dealer and they said there's anything they can do about it, because the warranty was over, i cal gm and they said the part was replaced already replaced. on my opinion if they put a new part and last less then 2 years that means still defected, because it should last longer . please let me know what should i do about this problem. i'm very scared to drive the car like that.

As i was pulling into a parking place at school the steering became very hard to turn. i after shutting off the said car was able to get steering back for a time. it has done this three times,in the past week. i have talked to a dealer about this their has been known issuses with this car models in power steering assist.. dealer said that there is a 150000 mile warrant. gm sais from there website lifetime warrant. http://media.gm.com/media/us/en/gm/vehicles.detail.print.html/content/pages/news/us/en/2014/mar/0331-power-steering.html dont no what to do about getting this fixed seem to be getting run around. advice please.

When accelerating, the power steering stops working momentarily causing great difficulty in steering the vehicle. for some reason this vehicle is not covered by the nhtsa recall number 14v-153 even though it is in the affected model year and has the same issue.

Takata recall. steering locked up while driving going around a corner and took a few minutes to get it to unlock. happened to my wife with our son in the car. this happened before we got the recall. got the recall fixed and now the power steering warning light is coming on. headlight are constantly blowing bulbs. the headlight will go out so i will go to replace the build and then it comes back on. front right turn signal goes out a lot and if i tap on it then it comes back on. the same with the rear tail light goes out often. this summer the traction control would ding and the button would not turn it on or off. when did this happen question doesn't make sense. it is a on going events.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer for a manufacturers recall on the power steering. however, after the dealer installed the torque sensor and test drove the vehicle, the power steering failed. the dealer would not release the vehicle to the contact. the dealer later released the vehicle and the failure reoccurred. the steering wheel was extremely tight each time the vehicle had come to a complete stop. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer and they refused to provide a permanent remedy for the condition. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 141,774.

Total power steering failure. last failed when car pulled into garage, failed days earlier when attempting to leave a parking lot, first failure was while driving down highway, approximately 50 mph (mileage on car at that time is approximated). problem precisely matches that of nhtsa campaign #14v153000, that is, warning bell chimed, display on radio flashed "power steering," and the steering was no longer power-assisted. i was told by both chevrolet and gm help centers that my car's vin did not match those on the recall list, so i guess somebody simply forgot to send my car the memo, as it has failed three times already. interesting note: the most recent failure occurred after returning home from chevrolet dealer, where the power steering system/controller (or whatever it's called) was cleared and reprogrammed. five miles and about twenty minutes later, it failed again. *tr

Nothing has happened yet, there is a knock when car is turning and u joint looks rusted. knock is not related to cv joints or boots, it was seen by a licensed mechanic that said it was the u joint in steering shaft. firestone of fayetteville ar are the mechanics that diagnosed the issue. *tr

I was driving as normal with no incident, parked went into home and came out 10 minutes later, car would not crank, as if battery was dead.. went back in to get a multi-meter and checked battery, showed 12.3 volts. went back into car and it cranked right up , no hesitation. next day went to get my grand-daughter (2 years old) and parked at her home. loaded the baby-seat, and went to start car, dead battery symptom again. jumped the car from my daughter and went tom walmart to have battery checked. battery and charge system checked fine. tried to start the car after test, acted like a dead battery again. walmart tech said looks like a bad starter motor. i purchased a new starter and installed. cranked on first hit. checked charging amps while running, 13.4 volts. went 25 miles to town. parked and after 2 hours came back to car and would not crank. (turned motor once then click click. click.) got a ride home and checked internet for probable cause, seems like hundreds (thousands) have the same situation. i feel the anti-theft system is cutting off power to car. i tried the fix that i found, lock, unlock, lock unlock car with key then wait 10 minutes and crank the car. it worked. i pulled away from my lodge and went down the road. stopped, made a right turn heading for a traffic light and the car died in the middle of the road. could not turn the steering wheel, no electrical signs other than anti theft light flashing on dash. tried repetitively to start the car but again just click click. click. if i had been on the thru-way, it would probably been an accident. further search on internet shows this a major problem, but no recall is found. why???

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet malibu. while driving 35 mph, the power steering seized. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering rack needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 80,000.

There was no accident, but this is a complaint against gm for failing to replace all necessary components for a recall. on 3/31/14, gm issued a recall notice, #14v153000 for 1.3 million cars under 4 separate bulletins & this included my 05 malibu for steering: electric power assist - there may be a sudden loss of electric power steering assist that could occur at any time (bulletin 14116). under bulletin 14116, gm would replace only the torque sensor assembly (not the steering motor) for certain gm cars including my car and the gm dealer did so on 10/21/14. subsequently on 1/10/15, the power steering failed and on 1/14/15, i took this car to the dealer and they stated the steering motor module 6.605 was defective and replaced it on the same day. i had to pay for this since it was not covered under the bulletin this part seems to be the same part that would be replaced under the other 3 gm bulletins, # 14115, 14117 & 14118 for the same/similar steering problem. my concern is the steering motor module was not initially deemed to be a hazard for gm cars covered under the 14116 bulletin (and my 05 malibu). thus, other malibu owners under the 14116 bulletin may have had the same problem with the motor and another recall may be necessary. *tr

I was leaving a above ground parking structure going about 5 mph when i attempted to make a left turn steering assist failed again was just repaired about 2 mos. ago twice in one repair visit now again i hit a late model chevy truck dented the rear bumper and movement from impact pushed into a concrete pillar damaging fender i never looked at the front of truck i was told by security on the phone. i knew it was all recorded by the hundreds of cameras they have on each floor i left my ins card with phone # on windshield it caused over $5000.00 in damage to my car because lifted truck and the trailer hitch or i panicked and hit gas instead of brake not sure but my car is very messed up i have full coverage thru aaa since 1991 i called my agent she said call chevy and gave me the # chevy paid to have it towed t to local dealer for diagnostics. when i had a est. written by chevy dealer i showed the manager the stiff steering he agreed yes it is not working no power steering assist i guess it is all electric and some sensor went bad again it goes out then i turn off car and re start then it re sets and works again i also checked and found out that there has been 300 deaths in the u.s. and 1 in canada from this i was never notified about the recall that has been out since april of 2014 i found out about it when it went out the first time and was advised there is a recall on the power steering assist i worked for g.m. for over 30 years and worked at the repairing dealer for over 20 years but i am retired now it is not the dealerships fault just defective parts or design .i just am blessed no one was around to get hurt or killed by the steering failing on a turn there could have been people walking behind this truck or kids thank god there was no foot traffic that early in the morning . *tr

Tl-the contact own a 2005 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that while driving at 15 mph, the steering wheel seized causing the contact to crash into a wall. in addition, the engine warning light illuminated. a police report was filed and no injuries were reported. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the power steering needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 110,000. djr

I have had problems with the power steering in my car. i tried to deal with gm as there is a recall for my model year for power steering problems. my vin is not included in the recall. i had to have a mechanic replace the torque sensor which is the exact part recalled by gm. my vin should probably be included in the recall. *tr

2005 chevrolet malibu. steering wheel froze while driving. *ta the consumer stated when the steering froze, she panicked and hit the side of a curb, with the undercarriage and the she hit a pole. the steering malfunction occurred several times throughout the year. the dealer was unable to diagnose the problem *jb

On 11/21, i took my 2005 malibu to the gm dealership for a recall on the "steering" to replace the torque sensor assembly. nhtsa campaign number: 14v153000. when i left the dealership and driving for awhile, i noticed my car would partially stall at traffic lights or stop signs. i called the dealership when i got home and they told me to bring it back the next day, but i had to work. today, 11/26 i took my car to the gm dealership because the car continues to partially stall at traffic lights or stop signs. i informed one of the reps what was happening and that i had no signs of this issue before the recall replacement. i was told they never went under the hood of my car during the recall replacement. it was all done at the steering column; that this issue is something that just happens without any warning at all. he informed me that other folks have come in with the same issue...not sure if this was after they also had the recall done. i tried telling the service dept., i had no other issues before bringing my car to them for the recall, but instead was told this was not their fault and i would have to pay for whatever is wrong with the car. i didn't let them touch it again. i will take it to my mechanic, who i never had an issue with after working on my car. i noticed there was a recall in 2011 for component(s): fuel system, gasoline; nhtsa campaign number: 11e009000 and never received this recall. i bought this car from car max in 2011. just speculating if this may be my problem. i also never received the recall for nhtsa campaign number: 14v224000 component(s): power train. more work to do to find the answers. *tr
