We have classified the 179 complaints from 2002 Chevrolet Malibu about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
The ignition switch has had to be replaced twice on this vehicle. the theftlock key pass sensor keeps failing and makes it impossible to start the vehicle. to correct this the entire ignition switch module has had to be replaced twice. i am told that there is no way to disable the theftlock feature. *tr
My wife was out doing daily errands and when she went to start the car it would turn over but not start. then, after trying several times over the next several hours it still wouldn't start. car was then towed to a automobile mechanic, and the next day before any work was done the car started, and they couldn't find anything wrong. then, a few weeks later my wife and son were out doing errands again and same thing happened, but luckily after a half hour of trying to start the car it did start. the battery was just over a year old ,and no other noticeable problems. i was afraid that my wife and 1 year old child were going to end up stranded. the only thing i was told bwas that it could be linked to the factory security code used in the car, but no one stated that they could test for that, they just assumed thats what happened. has any one else had this problem. *ak
Tl*- the contact owns a 2002 chevrolet malibu with a current and failure mileage of 142,000. the contact was driving at 60 mph on a dry night when the interior lights turned off completely. the contact pulled over and checked exterior lights. the only lights that would work were the turn signal and headlights. the contact replaced the fuse, but the fuse blew instantly. the contact will take the vehicle to the dealer. *ak
Anti theft system is defective. bought the car 1 year ago. first happened in august 06. happened again in january. now in february it has happened 3 times in the past week. car will not start, have to reset the key and i have found no one who has taken this problem to the dealer have it completely fixed. there are hundreds of complaints about this problem on malibu's starting with 99-04 models. now light will come on while driving down the road. have read several complaints about the car shutting off while driving. afraid for my safety, my children's safety, and the safety of others. gm will not acknowledge this problem even exists, but thousands of other malibu owners have. "quick fix" solutions are now going around the internet telling people to cut wires in their dash to "fix" the problem. gm needs to fix this before someone cuts the wrong wire and kills someone in result to fixing gm screw up. *jb
Consistent problems with the "theft deterrent" system, resulting in failure to start. dealer has replaced the same part three times. last time they replaced it again, and charged me for the tow to get the car back. this has happened six times now in the past year. *nm
First incident of leaking happened after dealership worked on car. arrived home coolant poured out on ground towed back. dealership said reservoir cap seal. 10/2006 or 11/2006, picking up at school and smelled not engine. parked saw coolant on ground. no engine light on but needle was past middle. family brought coolant filled it up and went 5 blocks to dealership. they said nothing was wrong. yesterday, 1/9/2007 car overheated in the school line. added coolant. i brought it to a non dealership radiator shop owner thinks intake manifold gasket leaking. car at dealership. i really don't know what the real problem is but because my warranty expired feel dealership will tell me it is a new problem from the first event so i will be responsible. at least two rotors replaced on the front driver's wheel & 5 sets of pads. reported to gm they claim it is the way i drive! a non dealership tire company had the pads replaced with a good brand. 1 1/2 years since i had to have pads. problem with the right front passenger door locks. car is running and the driver gets out leaving car on and then the passenger turns off the car and gets out, locks car, the radio stays on. i went inside the store and came out and the radio was still playing. when you unlock the car but enter only the passenger front door and then close it and walk away, the car locks itself. happened several times. i had not placed the keys on the seat of the car and shut the door or i would have been locked out. i reported this but no one seemed to care. radio was replaced for left button paint (not sure if it is paint or cover on button) rubs off. ignition switch was replaced. fuel pump replaced.. i transport grandchildren and i need a safe car. *jb
Theft system light came on a few times in the past few months, then car wouldn't start last night. car went to mechanic and they replaced ignition lock cylinder and ignition switch. old parts are available. *nm
Passlock system is awful. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2002 chevrolet malibu. when the contact turned the ignition, the vehicle failed to start due to the anti-theft device. the vehicle was taken to a repair shop several times and the mechanic changed an unspecified part. this did not correct the failure. the failure was diagnosed as the electrical panel, but the failure could not be corrected because it could cause other components in the electrical panel to fail. the vehicle is still at the repair shop. a report was filed with the manufacturer and the contact was informed that they would not be able to assist if the vehicle was not taken to a gmc dealer. the failure mileage was 60,000 and current mileage was 90,000.
Anti theft system problem in malibu. car will not start unless key is left in the ignition for 10 mins. happens about 3 times a day. *tr
Car fails to start due to faulty anti theft deterrent system. components of system including ignition lock cylinder and housing, body control module, and key replaced in 11/06. same symptoms recurred in 07/07. *ak
Theft system engages and prevents car from starting. *jb
The anti-theft device was triggered for no apparent reason, causing the engine to turn over but not start. this is the second time this has happened in the last six months. last time i was charged about $65 to re-set the immobilizer. this time (a different mechanic) i was charged $570 to replace the key and ignition cylinder, after he was unable to re-set the immobilizer. i see that this is a common issue with this vehicle. when will a recall be imposed? the car has only about 55,000 miles on it. *nm
Turn signal failures, emergency signal failure & theft system my car's signals work off and on. when i go to use my turn signal sometimes it does not work sometimes it does. what i usually have to do is activate the turn signal and then hold down the emergency hazard button which may or may not activate my signal to work. if i can not get this to work then i am unable to use my signals at all. the theft system activates on the car causing the car not to start until i allow it to sit for 10 minutes to correct its self. sometimes the car will not restart after the 10 minutes that the manual says to wait. my car is a 2002 chevrolet malibu. *nm
My car is part of the gm recall #14350. my car specifically has problems with the pass lock anti-theft system allowing the car to be started. several years ago i took it to superior chevrolet and at that time they told me the pass lock was an ongoing issue. they could fix it but it would not stay fixed. i paid over 500.00 dollars and they replaced the ignition cylinder. 2 or 3 years later. same problem. i contacted gm and was instructed to again return to a dealer and they would take care of the fix. i took my car to tom gill chevrolet. they performed diagnostic and informed me the pass lock was the problem and for another 500.00 dollars they could repair it. i was under the impression gm was going to pay for repair. they said the gm representative declined the repairs. i then took my car to an authorized service center and had it rechecked. again the diagnostic was the pass lock system. at that time the ignition cylinder was replaced again to the tune of 500.00. i just received my recall letter and i called jeff wyler florence buick gmc to schedule repairs. i ask what was going to be the solution and if the repairs would fix the pass lock system anti-theft. they said no. if i wanted that fixed it was 94.50. for a new diagnostic plus parts. really. i need the anti-theft pass lock system fixed in my car. that should have been part of the recall. waiting to hear some good news. please. my car now has 92,000 miles on it. i typically have to walk to or from work because it will not start when i need it to. pass lock shuts off the fuel and you have to wait until it resets. please help with this. thanks *tr
I have a 2002 chevrolet malibu. the turn signals/emergency flashers have been working intermittently. your web site carries a nhtsa action number pe05055 related to 2002 malibu's but when i called reliable chevrolet in albuquerque nm to schedule to get my replacement switch, i was told it does not apply to my vehicle. i do not understand why. *nm
Had many incidents and almost crashed where car will shut down while vehicle is moving. i had change my ignition at the gm dealership twice and my car still has the same problem. i special order my car feb 2002 and had been the only owner of this car to present. gm dealership technician notes: - on january 16 2007, 7,879 miles. my car would not start. put key in the ignition and the gauges went up about half way and stayed there until doors auto locked, then the gauges dropped all the way down. tried to start and it cranked but will not start. usually you can hear the pump priming but did not. this still happens to this date. after 20 minutes or so car did start and drove for a while. it died at a stop and would not restart. when tried to restart gauges still moved with the locks. but anti theft light was on the gauges did not come up. technician verified concern. car did start and drove into the shop. after several attempts the car did not start. testing found loss of ignition 1 voltage. technician isolated to an open circuit in the ignition switch. technician replaced ignition switch. after a few moths i had the problem come and go and the dealership could not figure out the problem. - on november 24, 2012, 47,906 miles. ignition will not turn over at times, and also will set off alarm when key is turned at times. technician found code b2960, ignition pass lock sensor failing. technician replaced lock cylinder and key, system operated as designed. but on december 17, 2012 vehicle lose power and shut off while driving on the highway. took it back to the dealership but they could not duplicate concern while test driving it. dealership did not do anything else and turned me away saying my car is in good working order. i have all receipts when i took my car to be fixed at the dealership. car still have the same problem and very concerned and scared to drive it. *tr
Malibu 2002 purchased on may 18, 2003 with 33,000 miles . on july 15, 2003 there was a problem with the coolant system and car overheated. according to dealer car was fixed. on june 1, 2004 there was a problem with the electrical system. june 27, 2006 with 72, 000 miles, there is oil in coolant reservoir and a coolant leak. there was a lower intake leak and leak at water pump. the lower intake and water pump was replaced but on july 17, 2006 the same problem came again. july 17, 2006 only a few weeks after the problem with oil in the coolant reservoir, same problem occurred and dealer does not want to take responsibility for it. *jb
Purchased this 2002 malibu used from local chevy dealer. first incident, after a brief stop at a gas station the car wouldn't restart. turned over but no fire. had it towed to a repair shop who informed me that the theft-deterrent system was stopping the car from starting. they explained that only a dealer can process or recycle this problem. they did a temporary "recycle" of the system and the car started back up. i planned to take the car to the dealer within the next couple of weeks to follow up, but then it happened again, at a store, cranked no fire, theft light flashing, same exact symptoms. i was told at the repair shop that this is a chronic problem with these models. they charged me $70.00 for the diagnostic time spent, and i was thankful that the car would at least start. now it's stuck in a parking lot across town and i can't even get it towed (no tow coverage). my fear is this happening repeatedly. first event was on june 19, second on june 30. i am curious about all the different "tricks" i am hearing about to bypass the system and get the car to start. one said i should turn the steering wheel quickly side to side while applying my foot to the accelerator, and turn the ignition, another said to try switching keys, (which i did try but it didn't work). any other ideas would be greatly appreciated! if i could get it to start then i could at least get it to the dealer - i am a single mom, very broke, no resources to fall back on for this repeat event so soon. i haven't even mentioned the constant burned out brake lights- i replace the bulbs and they blow within a couple of days...no visible electrical line damage, either...*nm
Would not start. *tr
Car has failed to start on numerous occasions and no one has been able to tell us why. we have had to replace the head gasket, which had not fixed the problem. our wipers only work on high. our heat only works on number 4 and 5. while driving home on the freeway during rush hour with my baby daughter in the car, the car just decided to die on me. i had to try to get out of the passing lane, so that i could pull off of the road. my radio and heat still worked, but car would not restart. my oil and battery and cruise control lights were on (i had not even used the cruise control) and my car just would not start. it took me an hour to get my car to start again, now i am afraid to drive it any distance for fear of being stranded. *jb
My 2002 chevy malibu ls would not start and needed towed home. this is the first time this has happened and seems to happen regularly to other malibu owners with no recall from gm yet. i have a young child and wife that drive use the car mostly and am worried of their safety if this would happen on a highway. i have also had problems with the windshield wipers quitting during a rainstorm. i contacted gm and i was told there was no recall and all repairs would be out of pocket even though this is a safety issue. the vehicle only has 50,000 miles on it. *nm
I own a used 2002 chevy malibu, purchased in june 2005. for the last three weeks, once a week the anti theft device system has engaged not allowing me to start the car. the 1st time it happened i had it towed to the garage and they could not find the problem. the second two times this occurred i had to leave the key in the on position for thirty minutes then have some one jump start the car. thus making me late to work on both occasions. i went on line to yahoo type in anti theft system chevy and found five pages of the same complaint from other malibu owners one woman was driving on the highway when it happened and the car just stopped in traffic she could have been killed. what we all want to know is why this matter has not been brought to the publics attention and recalled by the manufactured. would you please look into this matter and reply to either my e-mail or my home address. thank you very much. wendie price *nm
Attempting to start car, theft system light comes on and disables car. have to have it towed to dealer to get fixed. non-dealer mechanic cannot fix. only gm or chevy dealer. this is the third time this has happened with this vehicle. i had a 98 same model that did the same thing at least 4 times. *jb
Intermittent problem with car starting due to failure of theft deterrent system. this condition left my wife stranded a number of times until the car started after 10 minutes. *jb
Surprised to not see this gm recall in the database. gm recalled thousands of chevy malibu's manufactured from 1997 ' 2003 for a malfunctioning flasher switch and/or short in the wiring. the safety issue is the malfunctioning switch causes the blinkers to work intermittently and in many instances not function at all additionally the hazard lights do not function. *tr
My car is a 2002 chevy malibu. i am experiencing turn signal failure and hazardous emergency light failure the turn signal works on occasion only. there are times when it does not work at all ( many occasions ). an average % of how often it works is about 5 %, the other 95 % of the time it doesn't work at all. my emergency lights won't come on sometimes. there is a clicking noise being heard within the car almost all of the time. the sound appears to be coming from the hazard emergency light switch. also, my remote keyless entry is not working. it won't unlock the car doors or the trunk. i have to press it at close range at least about 10 times maybe more before it will unlock the car doors or open the trunk. *nm
Tl* the contact owns a 2002 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the rear driver side parking and turn signal blinker indicators failed to illuminate. the contact stated that the rear driver side lamp contained moisture. the failures occurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the failure as an electrical issue. the rear driver side lamp was replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the approximate failure mileage was 31,000.
I own a car rental company and the primary vehicle in my fleet is the 01-03 chevy malibu. over the past 14 months the ignition anti-theft system has left my customers stranded and frustrated. one customer was stranded at night in a wal-mart parking lot with her small kid while sitting through a heavy rain storm. all of our keys/spares are original and purchased from gm dealers but the problems remains. *jb
I first purchased this malibu 2002 in feb 2002. nov 02 ( 9 mos later) i had to have my ignition switch replaced which was under warranty. around the same time my turn/hazard signal went out and i haven't had it replaced yet after 4yrs of having this car. if i want to use it i have to keep pressing the hazard button to make it come on. nov 2005 i tried to start my car, but it kept cutting off. my dad stated it was the fuel pump. i had the fuel pump, crank sensor and module replaced. my car still didn't start. finally my dad went under the steering wheel and pressed this black button (cut off switch) and that was the only way it would start. i have to travel 25 miles to work so i was tired of worrying about the car. i thought it was the theft system. i took my car to the dealer 11/29/2005 they had the car until 12/15/2005. i was told that it was my ignition switch, crank sensor and my alarm/automatic starter. i was out of $366.73 to the dealer and taking a cab to work at 5:30am for x7dy coasted$210.00. i was also out of money for a rental car for the last 7ys they had my car plus gas on both because they used all gas in my car. i have had x2 ignition switches put on my car, i have to change my tail/park/brake bulb seemingly every 6mos. i am only getting my hazard/turn signal replaced when nhtsa reviews it as being an defect. i am having a hard time with the speed of my car also on the e way. i have to put my foot to the floor in order to make it take off at 60mph. i have to put gas in my car every 3dys. i last changed my fuel filter 1yr ago and again having it replaced 1/1/06. my check engine light came on 1wk after i got my car out of the shop on 12/22 and it has been on since. my coolant light comes and goes off every now and then. i have had my coolant/fuel flushed. i had it winterized what's the problem. if we ...
About two weeks ago, i began to notice intermittent failure of the turn indicators on my 2002 chevrolet malibu. about 70 percent of the time, they function normally but they randomly fail and just as randomly begin working again. the problem seems unrelated to power on/off cycles of the turn indicator system or vehicle. likewise, road vibration intensity doesn't seem to have a direct impact on the condition. when the failure occurs, the four way hazard warning system still functions normally. the failure affects both sides of the vehicle. neither dashboard indicators nor turn indicator lamps function during the failure. the sound associated with the operation of the flasher unit is also missing during failures. i have replaced the flasher unit and the problem was unaffected. i reinstalled the original flasher. it is available for inspection.*jb
Bcm code and ecm code failure. only 65000 mile on car and the main computer of malibu 2002 is going out. excellent maintenance kept. out 7,000 dollars because of problem. *nm
Intermittent failure of the emergency flasher/turn signal switch or relay. the part was replaced by my mechanic. i kept the defective part. *nm
I bought a 2002 chevrolet malibu on august 10, 2004. the mileage was 45,281. since that time i have had 2 problems with my vehicle. 1.gm dex-cool/intake manifold gasket. 2.anti-theft light comes on. after car has been stopped, the car will not restart again. with regard to item number 1 above, i understand there is a class action lawsuit pending. with regard to item number 2 above, these are the circumstances concerning my problems associated with the anti theft system. from august to october 2006 i had to tow my vehicle to the chevrolet dealership to address the problem of my car not starting. it was towed 4 times, the first 3 times and all the dealership said was that the battery needed to be charged. on the last time, october 13, 2006 the dealership said their ?educated guess? was the need to change the starter switch and ignition lock cylinder for which they charged me for a starter switch - $96.15, an ignition lock cylinder - $154.79, recode the lock cylinder - $15.00, and $46.00 to correct the pass lock sensor data, plus a $10.00 environmental disposal fee. my son looked on the internet to see if anyone else has had similar problems with their same model car. it appears quite a few owners have had similar problems. the anti-theft problem fix was to allow the car to sit for 10 minutes, and then try to start the vehicle again, and it worked, sometimes after 2-3 attempts. the dealership had also said to try the same fix procedure, it might work. it appears that general motors knows about this two problem, and is only addressing the gm dex cool intake manifold gasket. general motors should recall to fix both problems at no charge to the owner. it's only a matter of time before either of these two items becomes a safety issue and causes a loss of life or limb. the current mileage is 55,340. *tr
Dt: vehicle would not started due to the anti-theft system failure. when put the key in ignition it would not start. had to have it towed to the mechanic, then had it towed to dealer . this happened on july 30, 2005. the dealer stated there was nothing wrong with the vehicle, however the consumer disagreed. updated on 06/05/2006. *ak
In 2002, i bought a 2002 chevy malibu. since then it's been giving me a lot of problems. the first problem was the water found in both tail lights; this was under warranty. then there was water coming in the driver side window, the brakes, and the torque needing to be reprogrammed. then it was the headlights going out and i got them replaced at a walmart; mind you, since the 1st problem, none of this has been under warranty. now it's the airbag gone bad, cooling system gone bad, and the brakes again, along with a fuel pump. the calipers have to be replaced still, the airbag needs to be checked out, and the car is in the shop now to diagnose what is wrong within the fueling system that makes the car not start. oh! i almost forgot, i purchased a battery 2 weeks ago because that went out. i always stay on top of my service for the car. this car is 3 years old and i bought it new off the lot. it sucks!
The situation arises with no prior warnings, i insert my original gm key in the ignition switch to start my 2002 chevrolet malibu and the electronic anti-theft system goes into theft mode (as if i am stealing my own car). the theft system light on the dash starts flashing and the car will not start. the engine turns over but will not start. i have to leave the car switched on for 10 minutes (while draining the battery) until the theft system light quits flashing and stays on steady. at that point i must turn the ignition switch to off and then try starting the car again. to date it always starts after the 10-minute delay and retry. the problem appears to be random in nature and has happened to me as often as three (3) times in one day. it has made me late for work, appointments and stranded at the gas pump (inconveniencing others). i am fortunate that i haven't had any dire emergencies (yet) in which the car has left me stalled. i have not tried to have it repaired as i cannot afford the cost and it is my understanding from others' experiences that it will eventually happen with the new parts. this is a general motors defective system and a poor design that has been unleashed on the buying public. apparently general motors has refused to acknowledge the problem and take responsibility for their faulty engineering. meanwhile many, many people like myself have unknowingly purchased general motors vehicles with these systems and continue to have to live with the inconvenience and potentially dangerous results of their poor engineering. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2002 chevrolet malibu. while driving 5 mph, the key ejected from the ignition without warning. the vehicle crashed into the dog house. a police report was filed and no injuries were reported. the body of the vehicle was repaired, but the electrical failure was not. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 20,000.
Stop at postoffice car would not start, second time at home and the same thing happen, third time while driving home the car stopped and would not start, the first two time i took it to dealer an was told it was the igination prolblem and it was fixed and then it happen again, had the car in the dealer services center for 10 days an was told it was fuel pump and charged 300.00 to fix, car stalled when the service manage was bring it out to me and would not start for them, keep the the for another 8 days and was told it was an electrical problem and was fixed

Dt: having problems with the left and right turn signals, they work intermittently. this started happening about 4 months ago around april 15, 2005. this problem has gotten worse happening everyday instead of every now and then. the dealer hasn't been contacted. this problem occurs in all weather conditions and while driving at any speed. *nm
This is a well known problem with the passlock system. the 10 minute delay is normally because the passlock sensor detected an improper key and will time out for 10 minutes even if you use the right key next. there are various fixes that may or may not work, including getting copies of your key made and trying a different key, replacement of the sensor, and a common fix is to replace the ignition cylinder. *tr
The radio sometimes worked and sometimes didn't. after 7 trips, it was determined the problem was the amplifier. the radio worked for about a year and now is doing the same thing again. also, the turn signals work when they feel like it. i had the dealer check and they said i needed a new switch. i did not get one as yet, but see where other owners are having the same issue. i have not received a recall, nor did the dealer inform me of the issue. i initially had trouble with the outside mirrors but they did remedy that. i get shocked (electrically) many times when i exit the car as do some of my passengers.*ak
Dt: the vehicle quit twice. took vehicle to the dealer, and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. currently, the vehicle is in the driveway. the first time it quit was around april 1, 2005. no one else looked at the vehicle. it will turn over but not start. *ak
Driving car and it would die. first occurance was under warranty. car taken to dealer. dealer said fuel pump was bad and replaced pump. same problem ocurred out of warranty. noticed that some of the gages and lights on dash also quit when this happened. i could hit the key and they would come back on, and the car would restart. dealt with this for about 2 yrs because the cost of a new switch was more than i could afford at the time.finnally dissassembled the ignition switch when problem got too bad. discovered that gm had not used the normal heavy wiper style contacts that most ignition switches have. they used a plastic cam that pushes pins that operate very light spring style contacts. i found that the contacts had arced and were not making good contact. used very fine emery cloth to clean contacts, reassembled switch, and problem was solved.car starts and runs fine for now, but as soon as contacts arc enough, problem will return. i have noticed that there are many many people who have the same problem and the dealership is telling them that the problem is in the security system. well its not. anyone who has a minor amount of mechanical ability can fix the problem in about an hour. be sure and consult a repair manual on the proper removal of the ignition switch from the dash. its not hard, but there is a trck to it.*ak
Turn signals on my vehicle sometimes work, sometimes don't, had the same problem with the radio - fuses are located on opposite sides of the vehicle (pulled fuses out and were fine, put them back in and both items worked - temporarily).*jb
My turn signals work intermittently my ,fuel pump failed at 38,000 miles, coolentent system acts up off and on it overheats and then it might work just fine, head gasket starting leaking at 39,000 miles, motor is very loud and noisy when it first starts, it misses out while running but parked, gas gage doesn't read properly it bounces all over the place. *ak
2001 chevy malibu's anti theft light comes on sporadically when attempting to turn vehicle on and prevents vehicle from being started. key must be left in the on position for a minimum of 10 minutes for vehicle to start. there are several instances all over the internet with people having the same problem who have spent a lot of money trying to fix the problem to no avail. my daughter drives this car in austin texas at pharmacy school. she got caught in rising water once and the car would not start. if for some reason the car was to turn off in traffic and not turn on, i.e. the expressway this would be extremely dangerous. *jb
No incidents, crashes or injury's while in my possession. the 2002 chevy malibu i bought used in 2004 only had 11,000 miles on it. it was a government used car. several months after buying the car the blinkers stopped working and then began working again. they now work when they want to work. now, almost a year later at 41,000 miles the horn blows a short beep anytime. the car may be running or not, there may not be anyone even in the car. this has been going on for about a month and a half and now there is a beeping tone inside that i have not identified. it doesn't do it constantly but i notice it when i start the car. it is a short "alert" beep, kind of like an alarm. it beeps once, pause, and then about three times pause and then once more. just wondering if there were any recalls for this as the warranty is not in affect any longer. in addition to these there has been about three occasions where my car hestitated when starting kind of like the battery was drained. could this be from the horn blowing all day and night? have also replaced brakes more often than i thought i should.
While placing the key inside the ignition switch vehicle would start. ut when consumer turn the vehicle off and attempted to remove the key it would not come out. when the vehicle was turned off and the key was cstuck in the ignition consumer could shift from park to reverse without applying the brakes. consumer took the vehicle to dealer for inspection, and mechanic maintained that the problem could not be duplicated with the key's failure to come out of the ignition switch. but the shifting from park to reverse was duplicated and repaired. *ak the key won't come out of the ignition. when the key is stuck in the ignition the car will come out of park without the consumers foot on the brake. *tc
