We are paying on a 2001 malibu. the fuel sensor went out showing gasoline when there wasn't. the car stalled in rush hour traffic. the sensor was replaced but i had to pay for the fuel filter plus a deductible on my extended warranty. next the blinkers decided to only work occassionally same week the starter started dragging then the car started to run hot. took it to the dealer, replaced blinker switch (no mention made of the recall) replaced the starter and replaced the gasket that was leaking. when i had added coolant to get myself home the coolant that was n the car was green, the coolant i put in the car green..was supposed to be orange when i told the dealer there was green coolant in the car he said oh someones booboo unfortunately you have to pay for it...almost 300.00. yesterday, long memorial day weekend left work again rush hour, car begins to make a horrible noise i pull off notice the alternator belt is coming apart but the noise that i heard had nothing to do with the alternator belt sounds like metal on metal. $1400.00 worth of work done in april, 800.00 a few months before that and now this...the car is well maintained by my husband. now i read what i have to look forward to, the car was bought chevy certified from a chevy dealer. *la

Consumer purchased a chevrolet, malibu and the brake lights came on and stayed on. consumer took vehicle to the repair shop 2-3 times, but problem recurred. consumer was told by the mechanic, that chevrolet knew that there was a brake light problem because it was an ongoing thing with this type of vehicle.*ak

It appears that gm's claim that it completed the turn signal and hazard warning switch is not entirely accurate. my signal warning relay, situated in the hazard warning system, hasn't stopped clacking for nearly two years. perhaps it is the one that slipped through the crack. the problem is ongoing (not resolved).

Turn signals malfunctioned. consumer took the vehicle to the dealer for analysis, and mechanic determined that the turn signal switch needed to be replaced due to worn out parts.

Hazard flashing warning lights switch failed. a recall had been issued. however, this vehicle was not included in the recall due to vin. *ak

Turn signal failed intermittently. *ak

Driver side door clicks loudly while opening/closing, is it a bad hinge? one other person has complained about this. does not feel like a lube problem. afraid bad hinge may break/move causing door to shift. turn indicator works intermittently-saw on your site that there is a recall for the hazard light switch causing this. *jb

I have a 2001 chevrolet malibu which is currently experiencing intermittent turn signal operation. this vehicle was taken to the dealership twice in 2001 for this same problem. gm annouced a recall in august 2003 for this very problem. nhtsa id number 03v327000. i have contacted gm repeatedly about this recall and keep getting told that my vehicle is not covered under the recall. they refuse to tell me why it is not covered and how they determined which vehicles are covered. they keep referring me to the dealership and the dealership says they can't do anything for me if it is not on the recall list. i feel that gm either did not correctly identify the problem or they have not included all the vehicles with a high probability of this failure. i have done everything i can do to try to resolve this in a reasonable manner. at this point i feel the only thing that will get their attention is correspondence from either the nhtsa or a lawyer.

Turn signals and hazard lights work itermittently, but there's nothing wrong with the fuse. which has been going on for about 6 months. *la

Dt: the contact stated the turn signals work intermittently, and they seem to be getting worse. a local mechanic looked at the vehicle. there was nhtsa recall 03v327000. but, this vehicle was not included due to vin. this has been happening for approximately two years. there have been no repairs for this problem at this time. *ak

Intermittently, the exterior signal lights will not work properly. the interior flashers operate normally, but the exterior lights will not respond. the manufacturer and the dealer are aware of the problem. *ph if the hazard light switch is pushed several times, then the turn signals would work. *ph

The turn signal lights in my 2001 malibu are failing or working intermittently while driving. i barely avoided a collision changing landes on a city highway. sometimes they come on to fail again after i operate the hazard lights for a while. also after turning off the motor after failure of turn signal and starting again the turn signal / hazard light may or may not start working. dealer pin points to hazard relais. this should be a general recall since it is a well known and well documented manufacturer's problem.*ak

I have a 2001 chevrolet malibu and i was told there was a recall on the hazard lights and now gm is telling there is no recall.but my hazard light and turn signals wont work.*ak

For the last three months the turn signals on my 2001 chevrolet malibu have worked intermitently. on several occasions i had to miss making a turn due to someone tailgating me and my turn signal not working. i didn't want to risk getting rear ended. i was told by the service department at the chevrolet dealership that it probably was the hazard switch which i had replaced. why isn't the replacement of this switch not covered by a recall. i requested the defective switch from the dealer and i have it in case gm wants it.*ak

The turn signals stop working at times. you never know when you get into the car whether they will work or not. there must be something wrong with the flasher or something. i have seen other complaints about this on the malibu on the internet.*ak

My turn signals and hazard signals do not work properly. sometimes they come on, but most of the time they don't. i have had numerous near misses in residential neighborhoods and on the highways. i am afraid someone, including myself and my children, will be seriously injured or even killed. *la

Intermittent turn signal failure of a 2001 chevrolet malibu. *ak

The turn signal light malfunctioned. *ak *scc *jb

Intermittent or total failure of exterior turn signal lights and the instrument panel turn signal indicator lights on 2001 chevrolet malibu. sometimes turning on the hazard lights a few times will restart the turn signals. replacing the fuse does not fix the problem. *nlm

Turning light has failed due to an an electrical short. *ak

I was having intermittent trouble with the turn signals and hazard lamps. they will stop working when you most needed them. my mechanic changed the turn signal switch but that didn't fix the problem. at that point i saw that there was a recall on hazard switch pertaining to same type of problems. i contacted gm, they told me my car is not part of the recall, and referred me to a dealer. i went back to my mechanic, and he figured out that the hazard switch was the problem. as that is where all the power is distributed to rest of the exterior lighting, and it will fail particularly on a hot day when it was hot, and the air condition was turned on. he replaced the hazard switch, and the car has not have that trouble for last one month. can somebody tell me, how is this problem different that the problem explained in the recall? also, having trouble with starting of the car. once in a while the car doesn't start, and the ignition makes a wierd noise. the original tires that this car came with,m were a joke. they wore unevenly, and made the car shake and rattle. have put new michelins on, and that has solved that problem.*ak

Turn signals on 2001 chevrolet malibu quit working at unpredictable times. thru trial and error, discovered that by turning on hazard flashers and then off, that turn signals would then work. contacted dealer, and was told " that is a common problem, most likely hazard switch". when next in for service, (june 17, 2003) had problem checked, and hazard switch was replaced, at a cost of $119.50. if this is a "common problem "(as i see it is by a number of service bulletins and defect investigations on nhtsa web site) and apparrently a known defect, it should be covered by a recall, or "unwritten extended warranty" . *ak

Flashers and hazard lights do not work.*ak

The turning signals and hazard lights quit working without warning. i have contacted gm according to the instruction on the consumer affairs website. gm has informed me my veichle is not involved in the recall. *ak

At approximately 30000 miles my car started hesitating when starting. the dealer could find no fault and i kept driving with only periodic problems. then my gas gauge, radio, engine check light and passive alarm system kept coming on. at, 43,000 miles the car would not start. the dealer said the key had lost its memory but i still kept having the same problems. at, 48,354 miles the car totally went out. after having the car for several days the dealer said it was the ignition switch. under california law the ignition system is covered to 50,000 miles but the dealer stated teh ignition switch is not part of the ignition system. after writting chevy complaint dept many times i got no where because all they do is calll the dealer, they do not go with an independent body just the dealer that gave me the advice in the first place. i had the dealer return the bad part to me and want to know if this part is covered. i paid 400.00 to have it fixed. the dealer did give me a 75.00 credit because it was never my key memory they stated it was the ignition switch the entire time.*ak now, the car is at 54,000 miles and coolant is leaking around, in and near the engine. i have kept this car in good repair and have all receipts. these major parts should not be wearing down this fast. the dealer had to change the hazard switch shortly after i first got the car.

1) leaking coolant from intake manifold into engine, required gasket replacement and coolant / oil change 2) turn signals work intermittently, had to replace turn signal switch 3) a/c does not work, blows hot air, dealer unable to repair 4) brakes weak, vibrate. replaced with after market components (powerslot rotors and performance friction carbon metallic pads) 5) automatic door locks inoperative, dealer unable to repair 6) poor fuel mileage, best is 28 mpg highway (cafe violation??) 7) starter failed, replaced with rebuilt unit. *nlm

I have a '01 chevrolet malibu, my fuel injector went out of car, antifreeze chamber leaking (replaced), turn signal unit went out. abs system had to be replaced, went out..all under extended warranty. all under 60,000 miles. dealership (bobb chevrolet) oh has no recalls on this car, i believe this should be listed as a lemon.*ak

Left turn signal stayed on causing stop lamp electrical wires to burn. consumer had to replace fuse box. *jb *ts

Security light keeps coming on car wont start. emergency flashers comes on by themselves sometimes and the flashers dont work at times unless you touch the flasher switch then the blinkers will work. didnt get no letter about the recall on the flasher switch just found out about it on this website. i have a 2001 chevy malibu sl i bought it from harvey toyota in bossier city louisiana...i took the car to them told them what the problem was on the security system they couldnt find any problem with it. i told them about the flasher switch and they told me they would replace it but i would have to pay unless i wanted to do it myself. so can you tell me what i can do cause it is an annoying and agravating especially when your stuck on the side of the road and your car wont start un till the security light goes off and you have to reset it every time. thankyou p.s we i bought the car in 2002. *ak

I purchased this vechile and within a month of the date of purchase the turn signals began to work intermittently. they continue to work intermittently and sometimes suddenly begin working once they have been turned on and make a loud noise, sounding a warning noise which does not go away until you turn the signal off. i would say that my turn signals only work 25% of the time and would like to get a resolution/recall as this appears to be a common problem that should be corrected by the manufacturer at their cost.*ak

Tl* the contact owns a 2001 chevrolet malibu. the contact stated that the hazard lights had become inoperable. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who test drove and inspected the vehicle and advised that they were operating properly. the manufacturer was then contacted who stated that they replaced the flashing switch in 2002 under nhtsa campaign id number: 03v327000, (exterior lighting: hazard flashing warning lights: switch) and advised that they would not be able to further assist. the failure mileage was 106,000.

2001 chevrolet malibu experiencing problems with brakes, turn signals, cooling system and theft deterrent light. *mr the consumer experienced the following: a continuous brake problem with the rotors, the theft deterrent light illuminated, so the dealer replaced the ignition cylinder the signal lights worked intermittently and the dealer replaced the hazard switch. the right side hub assembly was replaced. there was water in the oil, therefore the intake gaskets were replaced due to leaking. *sc *jb

The turn signals fail on vehicle. you will go to change lanes , they will be working then they stop working. i contacted miller chevrolet who said they were unaware of any problems. i then contacted phalen chevrolet who stated there have been multiple hazard switch failures causing this problem but no one knew why. this is a very dangerous condition for a lot of cars on the street to have , and may be a item that should be repaired under recall before there are some deaths. mr

Turn signals work intermittently. vehicle checked by dealer, who could not find the cause.*ak

The turn signals work intermittently. there is no rhyme or reason for when it works or does not work. this is very dangerous when wnating to make a turn and not knowing if the turn signals are functioning.*ak

2001 chevy malibu. flashers do not work, turn signal fails, only works intermittent, most all the time does not work. i tried to get the recall and dealership said it was already repaired from previous owner. turn signals never worked only intermittently since i bought the car used. and the signal lights on sides of car have not worked at all to knowledge. this is just not right. if it was repaired properly, then i should have never had this problem.continues to be a crash/ safety risk! thank you. *tr

Turn signal works sparraticly, sometimes working after pressing hazard light button.

Flasher turn signals work intermittently when driving. *ak *tt
