I have a 2001 chevy malibu and after taking the car in to get the switch for the blinkers fixed on their recall, two weeks later it started acting up again. i have had two dealerships tell me since they already replaced the faulty part that i would be charged. however, i believe that this is still an issue an the aftermarket parts may also be faulty. *tr

There has been a failure to the fuel system several different occasions. fuel regulator has been replaced 3 different times. a fuel pump was purchased 300$ to replace old one. the right tail light has been bogging on and off almost caused several different accidents. i would like to know if i can sell this vehicle or get what i paid for it atleast? i shall take further legal action until something is done. *tr

I went outside to start my 2001 chevy malibu and it wouldn't start. so i had it towed to mechanics they kept my car for a week. they could find a trouble code to find out what cased the problem of the anti theft system to go on. i use the same key everyday no one there to steal the car. so now my light stay on all the time an i learned how to program the code myself this way i don't have to pay every time it don't start. all so my turn signals stop working sometimes i never took it to get fix because i learned that if you push the hazard lights they will work again. *tr

The ac control panel on my 2000 chevy malibu is failing. it is causing the ac light and compressor to turn off. a internet search shows this to be a commonly reported problem amongst malibu owners. the panel requires replacement and will cost $200 for the part plus labor. *nm

Our 2001 malibu developed a coolant leak and in may of 05. the dealer replaced the upper intake gasket and said it was fixed. the engine would not maintain compression and kept stalling. i am disabled and i felt there was a safety issue. after 3 or 4 trips to the dealer without results i took the car to another mechanic who pointed out that it was the head gasket that was leaking. i am out a lot of money for a car that's not very old. after reading the other complaints from other malibu owners i am convinced there must be a defect with these gaskets. i have also had to have the air conditioner completely replaced as well. i don't know if one has any thing to do with the other but it was at the same time. now my heater won't turn off so it's over riding the air conditioner. because of all of these repairs i have over $1000 in rental car expenses. this is a matter of safety as far as i'm concerned. *nm

5/05 coolant leak- replace intake manifold gasket $1100.00 8/05 coolant leak(continued)- replace head gasket, completely replace the air conditioning unit-$1085.00 1/06 replace egr valve, solenoid, gaskets $435.00 i've been around cars all my life, my father was a mechanic. my point is that i know if you take care of a car it will last longer. i take very good care of this car and i know gaskets should not deteriorate the way these did. looking at the reports on mycarstats.com it appears to me that what ever material was used for the gaskets in this car must be defective. there are way too many complaints for this to be any thing else. maintaining my car is a priority for me as i am disabled. to have a mechanical breakdown is a major issue. this cars engine was unable to maintain compression because of the leaky gaskets. it kept stalling repeatedly, i feel putting my safety at risk. i have tried to work this out with the dealership but it's clear to me what their priority is and it's not me or my car. i believe there should be an investigation into this matter. i have been told that the gasket material they used in this model was different from other years. i believe this is a bigger problem than gm is ready to admit. *jb

Myself and many other 2001 chevy malibu owners have had to replace all the major engine gaskets in their cars. i am disabled an the car would stall everywhere putting my safety in jepordy. the engine can't maintain compression because of the leaks. gm refuses to even resond to my emails. i urge you to check into this matter. i even had to replace the air conditioner. it's not fair to the consumer to let gm get away with this. it has cost a lot of money not to mention the safety factor. please check the mycarstats.com to see all the other complaints.egr valve also had to be replaced. in the process of filing my complaint with the bbb and the doj the dealer inadvertly provided documentation that tha engine had been leaking before we purchased it. *nm

Car has vibrations at higher speeds 60+ was told it was tires/wheels they were replaced for $280 for tires and $200 for just steel rims. car still vibrated at high speeds and also felt like rotors needed to be replaced-the kind of vibrating when braking. replaced rotors and brake pads $49 a piece for rotors and $40 a piece for brake pads. car continued to vibrate except when stopping. after time now (3 mos) when the car is vibrating and you go to slow down it shakes the car even worse. was then told to replace the wheel bearings. just did that yesterday they cost me $230 not only does the car still vibrate it has a grinding noise when you trun to the right now. since ive bought it it has vibrations at high speeds and a "rubbing" vv, vv, vv noise when turing right. after replacing wheel bearings the car still makes all the noises and grinds now. dont know what else to do to fix it, beginning to think im just going to have to replace the entire front end. really used to trust chevy now im not so sure. i have had way too many problems with this car and i just bought it in july2004- ridiculous if you ask me.

While driving home from work in 90+ degree heat my car overheated to the point where i had to have it towed in and was told by the mechanics that my coolant had been leaking and causing the car to over heat there blowing the head gasket and causing me to have to pay $1200.00+ to have another engine put it. i have heard this is a commom with the 2001 chevrolet malibus. i don't know what the repair shop done with the old motor, but it was fried.

Car will not start and needed to be towed. problem 1st occurred on 6-16-04. issue was identified as the anit-theft system, which caused reprogramming of the module. on july 1st anti theft light came on and car was driveable to service shop at which time both ignition switch and body control module were identified as issues. reprogrammed again to see if problem persists. i've complained of hesitation upon car starting for 3 years which the dealer was never able to recreate. i feel that the anti theft issue may have been the underlying issue all the time and intend to pursue this with the dealer if problem reoccurs. i feel though warranty has expired that issue was reported and should be rectified by dealer and gm. *ak

2001 chevrolet malibu experiencing problems with the vehicle not starting. the consumer has had the anti-theft system, and the ignition switches replaced. *mr consumer stated the theft light comes on and vehicle does not start. *bf *nm

Intermittently the anti-theft system malfunctioned. when this occurred, consumer was unable to start the vehicle. the dealership reprogrammed the system, but the problem recurred. *ak

Anti theft system that is installed in my car keeps going out. when it does go out my car will not tart and i have to have it towed to the dealer ship to have it either replaced or reprogrammed. i just had it in the shop on 2-27-04 and they so called reprogrammed it and now on 3-1-04 i went to the store at 7 pm come back out to go hpme and my car will not crank. it has to go back to the dealer ship to be servoced again. this is the 3rd time that this has happened to me. in this car. no one can seem to fix the problem with out it happening again.*ak

This concerns the quality of a 2001 malibu purchased new. this car has had a new engine, two ignition systems, two brake jobs, and now a major coolant leak that is to cost over $800.00 to repair. it has had two sets of tiresand the vehicle only has 40,000 miles on it. it has had turn signal problems, injector fuel problems, and emergency light switch problems. in other words the cost of operation is more than the car payment per month. the quality of this vehicle ranks as a lemon.

** i don't have all the above info available at this time. bought 11/01- hit pothole 12/01, replaced two passenger wheels(bent) and complained of "thumping" noise. dealer 2x claimed not to hear noise. car would not start on numerous occassions starting 5/02. paid 111.00 for rental while dealer inspected. dealer found nothing. next week, failed to start again, 800# tech advice told me about "anti-theft" was acting up and gave me procedures to start car. "anti-theft" system has since quit working. auto in "very minor" fender bender" in 10/02, that week driver door hinge started "crackling", hanging up. insurance company body shop said "no relation" to minor accident. hinge has completely broken and not working at all since then. 7/03 driver power window "fell down" upon attempt to open as normal with power button. other problems have been/are: rear passenger speaker doesn't work, interior light doesn't always work, "" blinkers/emer. flashers"" have quit working properly about 4 to 6 months ago. (this is very dangerous since i live 'up' a blind driveway on a high speed road)?!! 1st week i had the car i noticed motor rattled pretty loudly upon start up. questioned dealer and was told this was "lifter bleed down" and dealer was waiting on gm for remedy, if available. i bought this car as used with new warranty in place, about 23,300 miles on 36/36000 new car warranty as well as bought a 1500.00 extended 5yr/100000 warr. any suggestions, very ticked off and don't know where to turn.

Excessive brake repair:front and rear since vehicle was purchased on 9/12/01 to 3/31/03: brakes serviced on 12/14/01-machine front rotors and rear drums, 3/14/02-replace front brake pads and rotors machine rear drums, 8/12/02 r&r rear drums & machine r&r rear brake shoes & lube backing plate, 3/31/03 front brakes needed clean and adjust rear brakes. mileage was respectively: 5836, 12450, 21975, 33533. all brake work done by dealer. independent brake inspection on 4/3/03 shows front brakes needed and 20/1000ths left on rear drums. this will be the third set of brakes put on this vehicle before the manufacturer's warranty expires. also rear drums are within 20/1000ths of drum spec discard prior to manufacturer's warranty expiration.

1) leaking coolant from intake manifold into engine, required gasket replacement and coolant / oil change 2) turn signals work intermittently, had to replace turn signal switch 3) a/c does not work, blows hot air, dealer unable to repair 4) brakes weak, vibrate. replaced with after market components (powerslot rotors and performance friction carbon metallic pads) 5) automatic door locks inoperative, dealer unable to repair 6) poor fuel mileage, best is 28 mpg highway (cafe violation??) 7) starter failed, replaced with rebuilt unit. *nlm

Tl*the contact owns a 2001 chevrolet malibu. the driver side floor mat slides back and forth. the floor mat blocks both the accelerator and brake pedals. the vehicle has not been inspected by a dealer. the failure mileage was 12,000 and current mileage was 41,000. updated 3/5/08 *cn the consumer stated the problem persists unless mats are repositioned with each entry and dealer advised consumer no other complaints about the defect. the consumer further stated to buy new mats at the tune of $48.00 to solve the problem. updated 03/05/08 *tr

While changing a flat tire, the scissor/type jack collapsed and the vehicle dropped. the consumer was injured. the dealer ordered a new jack. *ak the vehicle fell on the consumer's arm. *scc *jb
