My upper and lower intake manifold gaskets need to be repaired. under ca. emssions law the intake manifold is covered but not the components or parts. the gaskets should not wear out this fast on a new car that has been keep in good repair. these parts should be recalled. *ak

As an auto-tech for many years, there are times when a vehicle's starter needs to be "bumped over'' or short cranking time, to assist in testing. some of the newer gm cars, (1999 and newer), have a feature that is dangerous for a tech. that is to say, once the start position is reached by the ignition switch, the computer continues to crank the car, whether or not the ignition is held over or released. this was unexpected and could be extremely dangerous for technicians. i do not know the reason behind this feature, but it was a rude awakening. *la

When driving at highway speeds the vehicle stalled. the vehicle also lost power steering but the consumer managed to pull over. problem had not been resolved. *ak two separated dealerships stated that there was nothing they could do to fix the problem until one dealer kept the vehicle for a week and stated that the vehicle experienced a "hicc up" and the vehicle was repaired. the left front wheel bearing was noisy and the left front hub was noisy. *scc the fuel pump and ignition switch and the consumer had not experienced any more problems with the vehicle. also the front rotors were replaced. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated the anti-theft security system malfunctioned. while driving the anti-theft warning light illuminated, and the vehicle shut down. it had to be pulled onto the emergency shoulder and to sit for ten minutes. then, the key was turned to the accessory position for ten more minutes. after the anti-theft system reset by itself the vehicle restarted. this has been reported to the manufacturer under case file # 1-384-309-432. *ak updated 01/25/06. *jb

At approximately 30000 miles my car started hesitating when starting. the dealer could find no fault and i kept driving with only periodic problems. then my gas gauge, radio, engine check light and passive alarm system kept coming on. at, 43,000 miles the car would not start. the dealer said the key had lost its memory but i still kept having the same problems. at, 48,354 miles the car totally went out. after having the car for several days the dealer said it was the ignition switch. under california law the ignition system is covered to 50,000 miles but the dealer stated teh ignition switch is not part of the ignition system. after writting chevy complaint dept many times i got no where because all they do is calll the dealer, they do not go with an independent body just the dealer that gave me the advice in the first place. i had the dealer return the bad part to me and want to know if this part is covered. i paid 400.00 to have it fixed. the dealer did give me a 75.00 credit because it was never my key memory they stated it was the ignition switch the entire time.*ak now, the car is at 54,000 miles and coolant is leaking around, in and near the engine. i have kept this car in good repair and have all receipts. these major parts should not be wearing down this fast. the dealer had to change the hazard switch shortly after i first got the car.

Dt: the vehicle has completely shut down five times. the first time was in april of 2003. the contact had it towed ito the dealership. they told her that there was a problem with the ignition cylinder. they replaced the ignition cylinder. the theft system light came on before the vehicle shuts down. the second was in june 2004. the contact had just pulled out of driveway when it shut down. dealership replaced the fuel pump, which did not need to be replaced. the third time was in july, 2004 and the dealership said that the battery needed to be replaced. the contact had the battery replaced. the fourth occasion happened on october 25, 2004. the dealership replaced the ignition cylinder. in march of 2005 the theft system light came on, and she took vehicle back to the dealership. they told her that they could not do anything because there was no problem. the most recent time was october 4, 2005. she had it towed to the dealership, and they replaced the ignition cylinder again. the service dealer said that the part was known to go out but, not as often as on contact's vehicle. *ak.

Security light keeps coming on car wont start. emergency flashers comes on by themselves sometimes and the flashers dont work at times unless you touch the flasher switch then the blinkers will work. didnt get no letter about the recall on the flasher switch just found out about it on this website. i have a 2001 chevy malibu sl i bought it from harvey toyota in bossier city louisiana...i took the car to them told them what the problem was on the security system they couldnt find any problem with it. i told them about the flasher switch and they told me they would replace it but i would have to pay unless i wanted to do it myself. so can you tell me what i can do cause it is an annoying and agravating especially when your stuck on the side of the road and your car wont start un till the security light goes off and you have to reset it every time. thankyou p.s we i bought the car in 2002. *ak

2001 chevy malibu. flashers do not work, turn signal fails, only works intermittent, most all the time does not work. i tried to get the recall and dealership said it was already repaired from previous owner. turn signals never worked only intermittently since i bought the car used. and the signal lights on sides of car have not worked at all to knowledge. this is just not right. if it was repaired properly, then i should have never had this problem.continues to be a crash/ safety risk! thank you. *tr

While driving and without warning, all of electrical outlets went out, resulting in windows/radio, and air conditioning becoming inoperative. dealer has been notified about the occurring problem on more than one occasion; however, had no remedy for problem. *ak the speedometer is the only thing operable on the dash. upon starting the vehicle the only thing operable was the radio. consumer didn't report the defect because all systems started working on their own. this problem has been reoccuring. there has been two attempts at repair but to no avail. the cause was the ignition switch shorted causing the power accessories circuit connector to melt. *jg

My 2001 chevy malibu has an anti-theft system feature on it. however it doesn't read my key right and most of the time won't start. and when it does start it will out of nowhere shut off while im driving. this is really dangerous because if this happened on the highway or on any road really, it could cause a serious accident or even a fatality. this is a serious matter and there needs to be a recall on this vehicle. i have done a lot of research and apparently every other malibu owner has the exact same pass-lock theft system problem. it only takes a matter of time. please investigate this problem because it really needs to be fixed this is my only car and i cant afford this thank you. *tr

2001 chevrolet malibu has developed problems with the braking and the cooling systems.***no answer required***. *mr one month after the vehicle was purchased the rotor assembly was replaced. the vehicle would turn over but it wouldn't start. the dealer replaced the fuel pump. when accelerating the vehicle's coolant light illuminated on the dash. the dealer determined that there was a leak at the by pass pipe at the lower intake manifold. the alternator was replaced under warranty. the hazard and turn signal switch were replaced. the right outer tie rod were worn loose. the dealer replaced the right outer tie rod ends and set the front end. the right front wheel bearing was replaced. the abs malfunctioned. *nm
