Problem with front rotors are well documented,in my case about every 8500 mile,i dont agree on chevrolets statement ,which is wear and tear.the manufacturer new car warranty on brakes is 12.000.i tried my best to cummunicate with out any positive results.this product which is my car developed a major safety issue, which to stall at high speed ,no power brakes or steering and will not start up again .could cause a pile up .was in shop 4 times and dealer said nothing is wrong ,told us to remove car from lot 18 miles down the road it tied ,and it took 20 days to finnally fix it,dealer received tbs fuel strainer has production flaws.i hope that persons dont have to die, just to look in to the rotor issue ,i did wrote before and was never contacted, perhaps it was ingnored.i hope this will not .it be a sad situation ,not to hear a cry for everybody who has to pay for brakes.thank you in advance. *ak

Braking system malfunctioned, causing extended stopping distance which resulted in a crash. please provide further information.*ak

In both failures the service support was not in excisting,or very insulting, both problems have injury or death possibilitys, rotor warranty only 12.000 miles, but the problem is a defect which is in all models starting in 1998 till now.it is not acceptable, every 7000 miles new rotors or die?? engine losing power at high speed and grouded freeway,no power steering or brakes,no warning. dealer tells me there are no codes and it runs well, after dealer told wife to remove vehicle,18 miles later ,car is stuck again, chevrolet assistant service said perhaps wife can push the car to the right.must we tolerate this, and a sales person knows about the bullitins, and will say that there is no rotor problem, brand new vehicle, never miss work ,losing job ,home and wife because of no error codes.so much for empty promises.service manager dont care if you die or live ,dealer has his 22.000.00 and tells you to remove your junk.chevys image is clouded and not honest. *ak

Car vibrated on application of brakes. dealer replaced rotors and pads after 3000 miles! *ak

When brake pedal was applied in a panic stop pedal went to the floor, resulting in extended stopping distance. dealer has replaced the front brake rotors and lining. *ak

Front rotors & pads had to be replaced 3 times within the first year. *ak

Tires failed over time. had to have a realignment and new front brakes installed even though the tires had been rotated and kept up to the recommended pressure. abnormal wear on the outer front left tire and belt separation occurred on the right front to the point where it was very difficult to balance. after the realignment about 3 weeks ago, the car began to shake on the front end again due to another bad tire rotated up from the rear.( dot number: tire size: p215/60r15 )

The brakes would make a grinding or groaning sound when backing up or going forward at slow speed. the dealer reported that they could find no problem. they had replaced the rotors and brakes on this car at only 882 miles see voq # 736612. *ak

At any speed would apply brakes to slow down or stop pedal and vehicle would pulsate. stopping distance would be increased. also, failed to stop sometimes. had rotors changed due to being warped. will be taking vehicle to dealership for 3rd time for brakes.*ak

Consumer states the brakes would pulsate when stopping, the brakes and rotors have been replaced 5 times due to warpage, consumer believes this is a safety hazard and is requesting reimbursement.*jb **nm

I have brought my car back to the dealership twice, and twice i have left disappointed. both times, i was reassured that nothing was wrong with my car, though my front brakes vibrate constantly. i was told earlier this year that the 2000 model of my car had brake defects, but have not been able to find any information to back this story. i am truly concerned for my welfare, especially since i commute to work daily approximately 33 miles each way. i have felt put off by the dealership because i am a female, and obviously "don't know much about cars". i have purchased 2 others cars from this dealership, and had no major problems. this time, i received poor service, and now , a potential lemon. please help if you can. i have contacted my local dcp, but was told i could not do anything about the car without having it serviced at least 4 times. i feel that's too many times to risk my life. *ak

The brakes have continually failed every 3 months since 3000 miles. the car is not safe for my wife and children. the car should be recalled and repurchased by gm. gm told me ms karen roberts that they are aware of the problem, but its not a safety issue until someone gets hurt.. are they crazy? the malibu is an unsafe car. even my service advisor harry haigh said the car should be replaced. the malibu is an engineering nightmare. *ak (tiresize: p215/60/r1)

Consumer states front brakes and rotors have been replaced twice, and master cylinder has been replaced one, and not sure if problem has been corrected.*jb

Vehicle vibrates intensly when brakes are applied. brakes and rotors have been replaced on several occasions and problem still persists

Had car for 15 minutes, traveled appox 8 miles when making sudden stop had brake failure. car continued to travel until it became lodged over a tree trunk. this vehicle was new and had only 20 miles on. dealer said they have no idea how the brakes would have failed, we are still working with them to get this solved, in the mean time they are not providing us with a rental or loaner because they said we are not having our vehicle currently serviced. so i am without transportation. this is outrageous. *ak

The front brake rotors (rotors warped) and pads have been replaced 5 times now but dealer cannot find the problem. the area service manager for chervolet seems to think that "the brakes are not a safety issue". i think differently. the front of the car starts shaking and the steering wheel starts shaking (worse then it normally does), i have also heard clicking noises when i apply the brakes.

On two occasions at an intersection and upon applying brakes, vehicle commenced to jerk itself into an intersection. at another time, it occurred while waiting at a stop light. it started to jerk itself again while applying the brakes. vehicle has been in/out of dealer's shop on three occasions, and the problem is still unresolved. *ak *ml

Brakes on vehicle have been replaced three times in past year. contacted dealer, and there was not much dealer could do. *ak also, gas guage failed twice. the passenger seat recliner was damaged. the electric out let broke and a/c heating system failed. *yh

Have had problems with the rotors/brake pads at 9,000, 12,000, 16,000, 24,000 and now again at 28,000. rotors or pads have been replaced 4 times and are bad again. gm dealer said this is normal for all gmc vehicles. *ak

Sounds like pads are dragging on rotors. vehicle at dealer, who said pads/shoes and rotors needed to be replaced, normal wear and tear. *ak

Consumer bought a brand new vehicle, and it started having steering problems within 24 hours. it was very difficult to turn steering wheel, and steering wheel shook when applying brakes. steering pump replaced, but vehicle still has shake problem when braking, as well as noise coming from left rear. *ak *ml

While applying brakes there is a squeaking and grinding noise in front wheels. dealership is aware of problem.*ak

Ongoing problem with excessive wear of rotors. this was the third set of replacement. dealer notified, and performed repairs. but was unable to correct the problem at this time. *ak *ml

Engine makes a knocking noise. dealerr has checked and said it may be air conditioner compressor. *ak engine was replaced, brakes make noise. firestone affinity tires make noise in the front, 15 inch. *slc

This car has been one problem after another. the day after we leased the car it was in the shop for the brakes, the car has had 2 engines in it. the transmission has been rebuilt. the brakes are still not correct. transmission is slipping again and the 3 year warranty is up. we complained to chevrolet and the bbb. to no avail they seemed to be on chevrolet's side in the case. we were to the point that we were just going to let the car go back but that would only hurt my husband's credit more then it was already. we had to keep the car through the lease. this left a really bad tast in my mouth for purchasing new vehicles because you are stuck with it for the duration of the lease or purchase.

Steering wheel shimmy. abnormal brake pedal vibration (not abs). car pulls to one side while applying brakes.

The brakes don't stop properly. the brakes have been changed 3 times. the rotors have been turned once and changed once. the blinkers don't work 95% of the time and the emergency flashers never work properly. the ac settings change on their own as you are driving the car. this causes the compressor to turn on and off, eventually causing premature compressor failure. the vehicle has died 4 times as we were driving down the road, once almost getting us killed as we were turning in front of a truck. also, the brakes have almost caused us to be in a wreck. we have almost been rear ended because of the turn signal failure. the manufacturer and the dealership has had many times to fix this vehicle with no success. to this point, we have not been involved in a motor vehicle accident. however, is it going to take me or my family being killed to get something done with this vehicle?

The brake system was noisy and was serviced six differnt times, but the problem still remains. rotors and drums were badly warped causing pulsation when brakes were applied. *yh

I have had the same issue with my brake system and have had my front rotors and pads replaced 4 times - i have only had the car for a year. they tell me this a problem with malibu's and place new parts on my car but after a few months the problem re-occurs. i get a pulsation/vibration when i brake at highway speeds and from time to time my brake pedal goes all the way to the floor. each time they say my rotors are warped and replace them.*ak

My rotors and brake pads were replaced because of defective rotors 3 times since i purchased my car they were replaced at 407 miles and 8248 miles and finally my rotors were replaced at 27980 miles it seems as though general motors has been using defective rotors on their cars and is not going to do anything about it until someone is killed and they are sued then maybe the government will force them to look into this problem.*jb

The vehicle experienced excessive brake shimmy due to warped rotors, also the front brake pads have uneven wear. nlm

Dealership has replaced front brake pads and rotors four times due to excessive wear. dealership cannot determine an effective remedy for this problem. please provide any additional information/attachments.*ak

Front of vehicle shakes when brakes are applied. it has been repaired twice. rotors were replaced & resurfaced once. dealer did not seem to have another remedy for problem.*ak

Excessive wear of front brake pads and front rotors. pads had to be replaced on three separate occasions, and front rotors had to be replace on two occasions. dealer notified. feel free to provide any further information.*ak
