In the 10 months that we have owned that car, they have had to replace the rotors three times. each time they have told us that the 2000 malibu's have this problem, yet gm hasn't recalled them. i've had two other mechanics look at the latest set and they want to know why there is so much play in the rotors. the rotors , they say, don't fit on the wheel studs right. the studs are not in the center of the holes on the rotors. i asked the service dept at stadium about this but they have yet to return my call.*ak

Brake pads uneven wear and warped rotors replaced at 13,696 i had same problems at 23,260 dealer inspected and stated ok returned vehicle again at 42816 and diagnosis was same as 1st time now not covered under 3 yr/36 due to mileage. had to replace windshield washer pump at 42,000 miles and ac/heater control head at 50, 102. vehicle is 2 years old and not covered due to mileage. items replaced do not have anything to do with wear or mileage of vehicle.

Brakes pulsate, the higher the speed the more it does it. dealer found that rotors & pads were the wrong size. they were replaced under warranty. brakes work normal now. *ak *slc

Brakes made excessive loud banging and grinding noise when applied at 10 to 15 miles per hour. this happen twice in a row. had car towed to dealer as i considered it unsafe to drive. dealer reports that they are not able to duplicate the failure and that brakes were operating to gm standards. this car has had the brakes and rotors replaced twice in the past six months. *ak

I have had my chevrolet malibu for 2 1/2 years and have had to have my brakes fixed 3 times. the abs brakes also went out on the driver's side. i have complained several times to the dealer, who stated that malibus just have those kinds of brakes. i have also complained to gm who also stated there was not a problem with their brake system. i strongly disagree, i don't believe i should be paying $500 for new rotors and pads and 600 for a new bearing and abs brake at 50,000.*ak

Car shakes and brakes pulsate and make a loud thumping noise when depressed from a high speed.

Replaced rotors and pads10/26/2000 and02/09/2001.replaced fuel tank sending unit 03/02/2001 replacing pistons in engine 03/05/2001

Brakes and rotors were replaced the first time at 14,614 miles with gm's "new design". then again 5 months later, at 22,679 miles. the dealership admitted that gmc has a problem with these and has yet to resolve the problem. i was told that it will very likely occur again. i was also told that they did replace this free of charge twice already now, and so the next time i would have to pay. i do not understand why gm continues to sell a known defected product, and surely i'm not expected to repeatedly replace the brakes as the dealership says.*ak

Consumer states vehicle would vibrate whenever the brakes were being applied, consumer took vehicle to dealership to be inspected and was advised that rotors were warped and brake pads also needed to be replaced, when consumer took vehicle in again for the same problem within five months, consumer was told that manufacturer is having a problem with this particular vehicle but has been unable to correct the problem. *jb

3 months after i bought malibu in july, 2000 i was driving at 65 mph when my care lost all power. dealer told me that there was something wrong with the fuel indicator wiring and was falsely reading the amount of gas i had which resulted in my running out of gas at 65mph. problem has not repeated itself. at 21,000 miles my signal indicator lights failed and my hazard switch had to be replaced. at 23,000 miles my evaporator vent valve had to be replace (engine light remained on constantly). at 20,000 miles my car was vibrating whenever my brakes were applied. dealor said front brakes worn out and rotors out of round and they replaced the front brakes and refaced the rotors. at 33,000 miles, care again vitrated whenver brakes applied and dealer told me again that it was not under warranty and was happening because of "hot spots" and that my rotors needed to be cut even though they had just been fixed at 20,000 miles. was never told that manufacturer was having a problem with malibu brakes and was told it would cost approxiamtely $700.00 to fix rotors and it was my responsibility. my sevice for the brakes was done at future chevrolet in old bridge, nj. *ak

When applying brakes at 40 mph vehicle shakes. dealer replaced front rotors at 3000 miles. however, problems persisted, dealer did not replace rotors again. last visit to dealer consumer was escorted off the lot. dealer refused to look at vehicle. *ak consumer also states there is a fule systems problem, the fuel will splash back at consumer when filling up tank, and a lot of fuel spills on the ground, also the rear brakes in wet weather, howl when accelerating.*jb

I purchased a new 2000 chevrolet malibu. six months after owning the car i began having brake problems. upon applying the brakes, the entire front of the vehicle to vibrate and the steering wheel shook violently to the left and right. i took my 6 month old vehicle to a dealership and they advised the front rotors were warped. they replaced the rotors. later, this same defect occurred three more times. chevrolet only made two more repairs. each time they simply replaced the rotors and placed a shim between the axles and the rotor. this same manufacturers design flaw occurred on the flowing year and make vehicles: 1997-2000 chevrolet malibu 1997-1999 oldsmobile cutlass 1999-2000 oldsmobile alero 1999-2000 pontiac grand am i complained to chevrolet about the problem, but nothing was done. the district representative in san antonio simply tried to avoid me. chevrolet_x0019_s on line complaint system also did nothing. again, there has never been a recall for this brake problem. the main cause of this problem is due to the small (thin) size of the brake rotors, which caused a failure to disperse heat adequately. if a driver drives into a rain storm or to a car wash and the hot rotors cool too rapidly they will warp. please see gm service bulletin # 00-05-23-002, dated february 2000 for more information. the maddening thing about this situation is that chevrolet knew about this problem when i purchased my car. chevrolet/gm failed to recall all these vehicles, and even though they knew it was a flaw in their engineering and design, they left the problem in the hands and pocket books of their customers. how many accidents have been caused by this type of corporate irresponsibility. this is a deceptive trade practice. *nlm

Rotors and pads were replaced at 7832 miles. rotors resurfaced and pads replaced at 22000 miles. rotors and pads again replaced at 29134 miles. i was told by both dealerships that i have had my car in to that they will have to just keep replacing them until they have the fix for the problem. i feel very unsafe knowing there is a defect in my brakes that is not repairable. after reading on the nhtsa website, it appears this defect is happening more and more often in 2000 malibus. i am going to pursue gm taking my car back.*ak

Front rotors are warped , do not stop car without a pulsating or surging effect. it was covered under warranty at 11000 miles .chevy replaced rotors and pads problem did not go away . i brought it back at 29000 miles and i was told it wa a wear problem not chevy's. rotors are warped and pads are worn two new brake jobs at 29000 miles .car still pulsates when stopping and slides thru stops. i called gm was finally told they had no problems with brakes, they replaced brakes at 11000 miles as acourtesy but will not do so at 29000 miles. according to complaints listed at nhtsa everyone is having this problem, why not a safety related recall? must we wait for people to die before we act? let 's have safety recall now before we have another explorer/ firestone issue and resultant deaths. *ak

At 3000 miles vehicle began to vibrate when brakes were applied. at 6000 miles dealer replaced brakes due to service bulletin. vehicle continued to vibrate and would shake to extreme when vehicle was moving fast. applied brakes, but will not slow down. vehicle has been taken to dealer on numerous occasions, but dealer has not provided remedy. *ak

Brakes: 1st time they replaced rotor/pad kit at 9066 miles, bad vibration when applying brakes. at present, car has 21000 and they say rotors need resurfaced and want to charge me. i don't think rotors should wear out every 10 to 11,000 miles, mostly highway miles. *ak

When applying brakes there was a pulsating feeling through pedal all way up to steering wheel. then, a grinding sound. dealer replaced front rotors 5 times. consumer managed to have chevrolet take vehicle back. *ak

When braking steering wheel shakes, there is vibration and brakes squeak. dealer has replaced front rotors 8 times due to warping.*ak *tt

Tires has a thumping sound . i was by the service technician that the tire has a bouble on it. i had to replace the brakes pad on the front of the vehicle in 8 months. i was informed by the sevice technician and mechanic that they were advised to replace pads with the new type. although i did not take my vehicle back for brake problems, however my vehicle was in for normal service interval and nothing was told to me of brake recall or replacement recommended by general motor or other manufactors. i believe that under the circumstance my brakes should have been replace with the recommended type by gm , and i ...not be charge for that replacement. i have since had by front brakes replace at my expense, and i am sorely dissatified with lack of information provide to me about the safety of my brakes. the dealer should have let know about the replacement early...when they do the servicing it the interval.

When applying brakes at 55+mph, front of car and steering wheel vibrates and shimmies so badly, cannot control car.*ak

While traveling at 65 mi/hr car stope running this happened on 4 separet occasions. i managed to get to the side of th road without being rearended, tried to restart the care only to have it stall again and each of the three times the car was towed to the dealer. the first time they had it 2 days and could not find the problem, the second time they had it 2 days and could not find the problem, the third time they had it 2 days and could not find the problem, this time the fourth time they have had it to date 8 days and still counting. they think it is the fuel pump regulator. i think i want them to keep this car. each time this has happened i have been in rush hour traffic. i feel as if my luck may run out soon. could you please help us to get out of this car and into another. also the brakes and rotors have been replaced 3 times. the heating and airconditioning system has also been replaced. i'm making carpayments on a new car and feel like i'm driving a junk.*ak

I purchased my malibu new in march 2000, by july 14 with 7078 the rotors were machined, on 10/18/00 with 12,339 miles the rotors and pads were replaced. on 3/23/01 the same were replaced with 20,311 miles and again rotors and pads replaced on 2/8/02 with 36,639 miles. the dealer advised service bulletins were issued on 10/18/00 and 3/23/01 for rotors and pads. i contacted chevy in detroit o 2/8/02 and spoke to alicia . i advised for her to do research because something is wrong.*ak

The rotors were out of round and the pads were faulty causing the vehicle to vibrate and make noise when the brakes are applied. nlm
