Lugs: nuts- these are constantly loose,i can turn them bye hand. some are broken right off.and the chevrolet h.q.and dealership(wildd dodge) along with the chevydealership(ewalds) keep givin me the run around. the paint is simply peeling off the hood of the car,the rotors are grinding and are beginning to peel apart.the back bumper is starting to hang, and the back tail lights are melting and constantly out.*ak

Contacted manufacturere and local dealer. no assistance offered on brake failure or intake gasket failure in which they told me is due the the normal heat of the engine causing it to fail.*ak

I actually have two malibus - one a 1998, the other a 1999. both have self-adjusting rear drum brakes which do not self-adjust, resulting in the front brakes (disc) doing all the stopping and overheating as a result. this causes rotors to warp, wheels to "shimmy" when brakes are applied, and loss of control of the vehicle in critical stopping situations at high speed. request that you subpeona all gm service records for brake service on malibus and see if there isn't a serious problem with repeated front disc brakes having to be replaced at frequent intervals.

Consumer was going 50mph & steering wheel started moving from left to right. dealer said that brakes were warped; brake pads & rotors needed replacement. *ak

Brake rotors needed replacement due to shuddering upon braking from warped brakes. *ak

When brake pedal is depressed to make a gradual stop, vehicle shakes. dealer has replaced brake rotors three times. *ak *slc

When applying brakes at over 40 mph vehicle shakes vigurously. took to independent shop no repair needed at time said it was a manufacturer problem with discs. *ak

My air bag light stays on. i called the dealer and the guy said it meant the air bags didn't work and they wouldn't come out even in a crash and since the warranty was gone i would have to pay to have it fixed. my floor board floods when it rains. there has been about an inch of water in my floor at one time and has flooded everytime it rains. i was told that too would have to be paid for out of my pocket. my anti-lock system messed up while it was still under warranty and was fixed but i had to replace the pads in november after only buying the car in april. it's march and i need new brakes again. the car was in the shop in the summer because it went dead while going down the interstate and had to be towed in. it was still under warranty so they fixed it at no charge. it seems to me that since this car doesn't even have 50,000 miles on it that it shouldn't be falling apart like it is.

Consumerhas problem with brakes, especially at high speed. when applying brakes they pulsate and grab lightly. dealership replaced brakes pads and rotors, and they resurfaced the rotors. vehicle has 16000 mph, and tires the tread is warped in the center of the tires. *ak

Auto taken to performance chev. east meadow, ny for repair invoice #cvcs28103. they state on the repair order that the loose part could have only come from the assembly line mistake. the loose bolt locked the rear wheel at highway speed, causing the car to veer off the highway.

Was told that this was normal. o safety defect. *ak

Consumer was traveling about 60mph on the highway and the traffic was coming to a stop, she applied brakes, and steering/front end started to vibrate. also, brakes grabbed slightly. *ak

While driving abs light came on the dashboard. then, took vehicle to dealer where technician explained to consumer that problem was with the abs wiring harness that was rubbing the cb booth.*ak

Coming off the expressway applied brakes to slow down and they felt spongy abs light came on. also, there was brake fluid on the rim of the tires. contacted dealer, and they have replaced the rotors and pads for the 4th time. problem still exists. *ak *ml

Entire vehicle shakes when brakes are pressed gently. dealer has advised that both front and back rotors are to be replaced for remedy. defect can probe consumer into an automobile accident for not being able to stop the vehicle in a timely manner. *ak

At high speedsthe car shakes making it hard to steer. i took in to dealer they said rotors are out of round, they cut rotors. happen again (twice) and they finally repalced rotors. a few thousand miles later same happened. replaced with a "redesigned rotor" which now has only lastest 7000 miles. now warreny is up and no wants to replace rotors. i have contacted dealer, chevy, sales and service. i have received no help other then i'm out of luck. my car is not the only car with this problem. what do i dao to get chevy to be responsible for the defective rotors or braking system?*ak

While driving consumer applied brakes and pedal went all the way down to the floor. also, rotors and tires had to be replaced. *ak

Brake rotors have been replaced by the dealership approximately five times due to vibration caused from normal braking. please provide any additional information/attachments. *ak

I've had to have my brakes serviced three times in the first year and a half that i've had my car. they warped, so my dealer turned them down; they warped again, so they replaced them; then they warped again, so they turned them again. *aki

Holes were too big around the rotors & lugs: nuts came through. upon applying brakes front end will shimmy. also, conusmer had to grip steering wheel tightly to keep control of vehicle. when traveling 55mph or higher vehicle moved right to left. dealer didn't seem to think it was a major concern. *ak *ml

Brake rotors were replaced twice because of warping. when consumer appliesd brakes both wheel shook. dealership was aware of problem.*ak

Consumer has replaced pads/calipers and rotors 3 times, and getting ready to replace them again. vehicle was shaking/shuttering and grinding when brakes were applied. chevrolet dealer didn't seem to think it was a problem. it was no reason for them to be replaced this close together. manufacturer could only say there was no recall, and until then they have no obligation. *ak the tail lamp failed. right rear door sometimes won't open from inside and difficult to open from outside. consumer demand a refund of the full purchase price of the vehicle or a comparable vehicle. *yh

While driving and applying brakes front end of vehicle vibrated severely.this problem has been occurring due to premature wearing of brake pads and rotors. *ak rotors on disc brakes warped causing brake pads to wear unevenly. *yh

The brakes only failed once, however i have had it in atleast 6 times since lease for complaints on the brakes to two different dealerships. i was told by one that the malibu's are having problems with the brake pads, why has no one been told this? my abs is agin coming on and now getting ready for it's 7th trip to service.

Have to replace brake pads/rotors every 5,000 miles. i've spent more money on the brakes on this car than gas. i've also gone through 5 sets of tires. replaced wheel hub bearings, and still, after replacing items, the vibration, shaking, instability comes back. also, problem with abs. light comes on and stays on. i've had it looked at 6 times and dealer can't find problem. each time after seeing dealer, it goes out. but then comes back on again in a few days. have problems braking. i've had to stop quickly, and the brake pedal goes to the floor, and car won't slow down. it's as if i'm trying to slow down on a sheet of ice, and i live in florida!!! back taillights constantly melt around bulbs. i've had to replace the tail light assemblies in both. is chevrolet going to do anything about these problems?? i've read that a lot of other people are having these same problems. does it take a few people's deaths to finally get them to care? come on chevrolet, i used to believe in you, but now i'm questioning the cars. this is the 6th chevrolet car i've owned. strongly thinking of never buying a chevy again. *jb

Brakes have been defective. has had brakes for a year each before pads had to be replaced. contacted dealr, and dealer was not willing to do anything.*ak

Vehicle has been in for a front end noise 3 times so far..1st the front suspension arms were replaced...2nd the steering knuckles were replaced....3rd they still dont know....4th to replace front left strut....on 5/22/2000 the brakes locked and shimmied, was told the rotors were worn and needed turned. *ak

Consumer stated there was vibration when braking, dealer resurfaced the front rotors at 17068 miles, the dealer has since replaced the front rotors and pads twice, on the third occasion dealer informed consumer that they would not work on the vehicle under warranty, consumer then went to a local shop and had the rotors turned and the pads replaced.*jb

When making turns abs light comes on intermittently, consumer will then shut off engine and restart. abs light will then be off. mechanic cannot find a cause.abs light was illuminating at time of purchase. consumer had to have a new motor put in because of a knocking noise in the piston plates. alignment to the front suspension was needed. *jg

Front wheel started to squeak. this was the fourth set of front wheel bearing contacted dealer ,and dealer stated just keep changing wheel bearings . *akglove box door does not close, headlight brigher than other, fog lamp fell off while driving, foglamp assembly was replaced, passenger rear door queeks when opened / closed, automatic transmission fluid leaks, brakes noisy / squeeking when braking, vehicle squeeks when sterring right, consumer also states failures with struts and strut caps. *tt consumer complains that all four tires worn out too fast, whirring noise from fl tires. no tire information given. *tt

While driving at a high rate of speed and putting on brakes, steering wheel vibrated a lot. consumer talked to chevrolet, andthey said it was caused some flaws in the rotors. *ak

While driving applied the brakes, and brakes failed to operate peroperly, and vehicle failed to stop right away. took to dealer & mechanic changed entire (abs) brake system due to excessive wear. brake problem has been happening 4 other times. *ak

Sever front shimmy when applying brakes replaced once occurring again at 52000miles, almost uncontrollable when slowing from highway speeds. *ak

Initially, the indication that there was a brake problem was a squealing when applying the brakes. at the time, brake pads and rotors were replaced. then, after an another 3000 miles, the vehicle developed a serious vibration upon braking. the dealer then ground down the rotor. the problem developed again when another 2000 miles were driven, and dealer replaced both front calipers. another 3000 miles have been driven, and the car has again developed a serious vibration when braking, strong pressure must be applied to slow the vehicle, and when the brakes are applied the car pulls strongs to the right and becomes difficult to control. dealer has not been able to fix this latest problem.*ak

Very erratic steering when braking supposed "silent" recall; as rotors were not annealed properly chevrolet replaced rotors (i hope) and front pads condition occurred again six months later, had private garage re-cut rotors, replace pads condition occurred again three months later believe defective rotors but can't afford it, fixed income, this condition could cause severe accident if driver panics as it feels like control is totally gone. feel there should be a real recall and new type of rotors installed, i was all set to do my brakes the first time but a friend told me about the "silent" recall. i don't feel that brake problems should be "silent".*jb

Brake rotors prematurely warp. consumer has replaced rotors 3 times, rotors only last about 5000-8000 miles .*ak the manufacturer is aware of the problem but did not issue recall notice. the customer drives a lot of highway miles and is concerned about the safety. *yh

Both front disc pads were replaced and rotors resurfaced at 9210 miles, disc brake rotors were replaced at 10974 miles, vehicle experienced shaking while braking, at 14900 miles the front calipers, brake pads, and disc rotors have to be replaced again, consumer states brakes make multiple noises when applied. *slc

When starting vehicle anti-lock brake light was on. consumer took vehicle to dealer, and they decoded brake sensor system. then, light went off. on april 21st, anti-lock brake light came on again, consumer took car again to dealer, and dealer said it was the sensor again. dealer decoded again, and light went off. dealer never corrected problem, anti-brake light was on and staying on. please provide any further informaiton. *ak

When driving above 50 mph and brake pedal is applied, vehicle will begin to pulsate. dealer has worked on this problem four times. *ak *slc

Had to have rotors replaced 7 times every 3000 -4000 miles) due to warping, front end of car shakes when brakes applied took it to dealer was told this was a manufactors defect and there was nothing they could due for me.

While driving vehicle experienced a flutter with the rotors. took to dealer and they said front rotors were warped. *ak
