My vehicle has been running just fine until the other day when my vehicle out of nowhere went into 'limp mode' and i couldn't go over 20 mph. the notifications on my dash were 'eng pwr reduced' and 'service esc'. after looking online for possible causes, it is very clear that engine power reduced and service electrical system is an extremely common problem with chevy malibu's from older models to newer 2016-2018 models). not only is it common, but most people that experience the same issue i did, end up spending thousands trying to fix the problem. repairs range from changing the throttle body to sensors to battery cables & terminals. a few get lucky but for the majority of malibu owners, the problem returns within days or if they're lucky, they get a couple of months before the error codes come back. all one has to do is search the forums of cargurus.com or youtube for videos to find the countless posts of chevy malibu owners all experiencing the same problem. i personally read of many accounts where owners were on the highway when all of a sudden they have the engine power reduced. this is a huge safety ...
The esc turns off pretty much every time i drive the car. last monday the check engine light came on when the transmission was slipping m. the the transmission would no longer shift and the solenoid is stuck open while driving home from work. prompting the dealership to try and sell me a whole new $5,000 trans. when the car only has 130,000 miles on it. the transmission has been running slow on acceleration but has never been stuck in first gear leaving me left on the side of the road waiting for help to come get me. the headlight burn out like every 6 months resulting in taking off the bumper or paying $200 from the dealership for a $5 bulb. i have no pictures since my car is at the dealership waiting for me to either go get or pay for the transmission.
I was driving in the mountains when engine power is reduced light came on and cars max speed topped out at 20-25 mph. started the car an hour later and everything went off. took it to the dealership to be told nothing is wrong. a month later same exact issue. this time i was driving in the city at 30mph when engine power is reduced light came on again and speed was affected again. now the engine light is remaining on.
Engine power is reduced appears on info dash word and car slows down to slow speed while on highway
I was driving on a city street going 35mph when my check engine light came on and a notification came on my dashboard saying "engine power is reduced". the car immediately went from 35mph to 20mph; i'm lucky no one was behind me or i would have been hit. i just bought the car 8 days ago at 35,000 miles. i was told at the dealership that it had to do with the acceleration pedal position sensor. the car is less than 36,000 miles now.
I was driving my car and car just shut off, no lights were on in vehicle no signs of any issues at all. vehicle shut off in the middle of the road.
I was driving home from work this morning, and the speed of the car slowed down and wouldn't go faster than 20 miles per hour. there was plenty of cars behind me making the sudden drop of speed unsafe. i took it to the dealership and was told it was the throttle, and that it's not covered by my warranty. i have heard it's common in 2016 malibu's. i haven't had this car that long, and is currently being worked on.
In driveway anti theft system went on and vehicle wouldn't start. second time this has happened without any warning. could have happened anywhere causing safety issues, especially if it happened at night. the battery was fully charged.
When i park the car put shift into park, a message comes up saying: shift into park when i have already shifted to park, so i start the car and shift into park and the message goes off and sometime i have to do repeat the procedure.
My electronic control system is misfiring for a few days now. it is causing my stability control light to come in and also my engine light. when the stability light comes on my car shakes a little bit while driving. i put my vehicle on a diagnostic test and the codes came back that the ecm is misfiring
