I have a 2005 malibu maxx. approximately 2 1/2 weeks ago, i was pulling into a parking space -very, very slowly, there were a series of red pole about 3 feet high, i saw them. i was turning right and my car jerked to the left accelerated and i hit a pole damaging my front end. car was towed and repaired by state farm insurance for about $2500.00. i got my car back and drove it for about two weeks, i was again pulling into a parking space only i was completely in and parked, i was braking and shutting off my car when this happened. the brake went completely loose, the steering wheel started to spin and the car surged, it surged and flew over the curb about 6 feet into an ice machine at a speedway gas station on 15 mile and dodge park in sterling heights. this was about 8:15 - 8:30 a..m. . that car surged and flew at about 60 mph my foot never left the brake. this car was towed to buff whelan chevrolet on 18 and van dyke in sterling heights michigan and they are fixing the bumper. i have reported this problem to general motors, to the president of buff whelan and to keith armstrong in the uk who wrote an article about cars that surge in 2010 for the usa today. i received after contacting the sterling heights police a ticket for reckless driving, which i have requested a hearing over. i am going to be picking up my car on tuesday 8/9/2011 "fixed" but i will have it towed somewhere, probably home. it will not be driven, this car scared me to death. you would have to experience a "surge" to be able to comprehend what could happen during one. this car must never be driven, i don't think gm knows what to do or how to identify this, they haven't responded. *tr

The light bulbs number 3057 in 2 of my cars have melted the base and damaged the light sockets. as a result the light will not illuminate properly. one vehicle is a 2006 dodge ram 3500. the bulb is used in the brake light. when it fails you get the running lights but not the brake light. there is no way to tell inside the vehicle that the brake light is not lighting. this has a serious risk of being hit from behind. the second vehicle is a 2005 chevrolet malibu max. bulb 3057 is used in the front turn signals which double as the daytime running lights. on this vehicle not only does the base of the bulb melt breaking the electrical contact the plastic lens of the light is melting. once failure occurs you may or may not get the extra fast turn signal indicator. on the driver side of the vehicle the bulb had to be replaced 4 times in six months. both the factory bulbs melted and the sylvania replacement long life bulbs failed. *tr

I have a 2005 chevrolet malibu maxx. a few years ago there was a recall on this car with steering problems. i believe the fix did not improve the problem as it still exist as of today. *tr

Today, while driving straight, felt a tug, steering lost. this was the third occurrence. the first two times this occurred in 2008, the first time power steering was partially lost. brought it to the dealer who stated that they could not recreate the loss. lost the steering again and the dealer replaced the module. there were no parts returned to me. this time, the vehicle sustained damage. the tow company informed me that the car is not drivable - no steering. *tr

Vehicle made a loud pop noise. steering shaft was replaced at 35,000 miles due to a defective steering shaft. vehicle is now at 70,000 miles and needs to be replaced again. i contacted chevy and was issued a case number. they advised me a chevy dealer diagnostic was required. chevy dealership confirmed steering shaft again needed to be replaced, however head office denied my request. a steering shaft almost never needs to be replaced in a vehicle, since the time of my replacement at 35,000 miles alterations have been made to their replacements. this would indicate a manufacturer defect. *tr

While driving the car the "power steering" goes out. generally right away or after 30 minutes of driving. problem has been occurring for 25000+ miles. my mechanic claims the fix is in the steering column. chevrolet wants $200.00 to "look" at the problem and we will go from there. i have not had it fixed as of yet because i am not made of money. i am the only one in my family that is physically able to steer the car when it goes out. this is a huge safety issue. it does go out on the hi=way as well as side streets. there is no rhyme or reason to the frequency. *tr

No crash, no injury, just worried it`s going to happen when it comes to the steering. *tr

Since purchasing my 2005 chevy malibu maxx in september of 2006, the vehicle has required an inordinate amount of maintenance time., especially for a conservative driver like myself. in three years, both lower control arms with ball joints (the arms are of aluminum construction) have had to be replaced twice. in the same time, the car has twice needed tie rod replacement my garage mechanic indicates that other malibu maxx customers, even with a newer model year, are experiencing identical problems. *tr

Our 2005 chevy malibu has had steering issues since it was new. the dealer and gm have not been able to fix it as of yet. the car has a constant pull to the left and on occasion (4 times) the car will veer to the left crossing lanes before you can get control and bring it back it to the correct driving lane. the repair so far has been to reprogram the steering module or replace it. this has not worked and is what they are attempting to do again. *jb
