In june the drivers seat began listing to the right and rocking. the dealer looked at it and said it is a broken weld and quoted me $800.00 to fix it. then in sept of 2012 i was trying to maneuver out of a parking lot and the power steering locked up. it was really scary, it took all my might to get to a safe place to stop without hitting anyone. when i restarted it was okay and my mechanic did not see any obvious problem with it. also the cd player no longer will load up cds although the other functions and info on the little screen work. also the side mirrors no longer can be adjusted in the vertical plane although they still move horizontally. *tr
I've been driven my 04 chevy malibu max with out power steering for about 4 months now. every time i contact a chevy dealer they say oh there's nothing they can do. i had diagnostics done and they said there nothing they can do its not to big.. they also said its not a safety issue.. i just saw on the news that they are recalling the cobalts for power steering, why are they not fixing them and they know the maxxs are having problems nothing has happened yet.. *tr
The part in question is the rack and pinion assembly part # 25902150 of a chevy malibu maxx 2004. the first part was replaced july 8 2008, that part failed and was replaced again on october 3 2008. that part is now failed again and it has not been 3 moths since it was replaced. so the part has failed by making extreme noise, clicking or thumping heard in the front end. my mechanic told me that the gm dealer that provided the part told him they keep many in stock because they have this problem a lot. my mechanic also tells me that gm refused to pay his labor cost even though they admitted the part failure in such a short time. my mechanic tells me that not replacing the part can result in my losing control of my vehicle and possibly at risk of causing serious injury to me or others. *tr

I purchased a 2004 malibu maxx, new not used. the second day i drove it, it sputtered a little as i was driving down the road. on october 14, i filled the car with gas and within 1 mile, the car stalled out 4 times. i initially thought i had purchased bad gas, and my husband called the dealership. they came and picked it up with a wrecker. at this time, the car had less than 800 miles on it. they called me the next day and said it was my anti-theft system and they had to reprogram my key but it was fine now. i picked it up and before i made it home, it stalled out again. i got it home, my husband called the dealership and we took it back. on the way back it stalled out 2 more times and started sputtering like it wanted to stall out again. to date (october 24, 2004), i still do not have the car. i spoke with mike andrews (the sales manager) and discussed possibly exchanging for a new vehicle and he refused. i then called chevrolet in detroit (4 days ago) and she called the dealership and they said they had to replace the gas tank because there was a leak between the filler pipe and the tank and "fuel was leaking where it shouldn't". they said i should have it back by friday (october 22). the service department is now saying there is a service bulletin out on it and they had not recieved the fuel tank yet and it could be monday or tuesday of next week before i get it back. *ak
