Problems with 2011 Chevrolet Impala ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL

On average, the 2011 Chevrolet Impala starts to “feel” problems with the ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL and its various aspects after 79 245 miles.

Recently reported ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL problems on 2011 Chevrolet Impala

When starting from a stop the car jerks as if the transmission is trying to catch up and it feels like you've been hit from behind. it's an on and off problem but it happens in the rain and is dangerous the dealer changed the trans oil and it still does it. next the car goes into "reduced engine power" and "service stabilitrak" while driving and will not let me finish my highway drive safely, no one at the dealer can help with this except to say it will cast a lot of money to fix. headlights constantly burn out and i bought expensive lights last time and one is already burnt out. i have only 1 payment left and the car is ready for the junkyard, you would think after $28000.00 it would last a little longer. what happened to gm??

While driving the car i came up to a red light it started shaking then a message came up that said service stabilitrack after it turn off and wouldn't turn back on i had to push it out of the main st to avoid getting hit or causing an accident i ended up getting it towed to my house called a mechanic to look at it and he says it might be my motor so i called the chevy dealer in lakewood and they told me my warranty was up last year so they say they could not do nothing for me i have to fix it out of my pocket this car had already too much problems from the start my transmission broke also under 60000 miles luckily is was covered by warranty but now i got no car no money and i'm still paying for the car i got about 2 yrs left to finish it and it didn't even get to 100000 miles i got played on buying this car all my hard work money is being taken for them selling me a problematic car i spoke to general motors and all they said they have to talk to a senior advisor it's become dangerous to even drive this car because when something happens to it it stops were ever now i have a family kids i don't feel safe driving this car no more i need to know what could be done to fix this problem if not i have to proceed with legal matters and also get a class action lawsuit started cause theirs many people with similar problems and the same car.

Stablitrac. service goes on. engine speed is reduced and this is happening internment

Driving my car the stabil track needs repaired then traction center then reducing engine power.i was getting off the highway when the notice started.

My car all of a sudden beeped and 3 warnings came up saying "engine power reduced" ,"service traction control" and "service stabilitrak" 2 images came on as well the engine light and the traction one. the car seemed to be running fine i was almost home. but it scared me since all those lights were flashing. especially the engine power reducing. reading all these stories i feel lucky that my car did not stop on me. i remembered id received a letter that was not a recall but mentioned to take in if you had any issues with this and should be covered or refunded if fixed in the past. i found it called gm and have an appt in 2 weeks which worries me hope nothing happens between then. the bad and good thing is that now all the lights have come off. hoping they are still able to fix it and i am not having to pay anything for it. i feel like this is very dangerous and should be a recall.

Takata recall this issue is this: i bought the car in december 2015 first my engen light comes on, than my traction controle light, than my car tells me to service traction controle, engen power is reduced, service stabil track, the engen cuts i loose power steering, and i have to pull over for 15 min waiting for the car to reboot. i have had the car to the gm shop every 2500-3000 miles. the shop replaced all the factory covered parts and now will start guessing. the first fix is replacing some wires that another shop replaced in an attempt to fix this same problem. no one will fix this death trap. i will not drive it.

Driving down the highway the car shook and jerked then the engine power reduced, service stabilitrack, and service traction control showed up on my dashboard. the check engine light came on and so did the traction light and they stayed on. the rpm meter is averaging between 3 and 4 when it usually averages between 1 and 2. also, the speed has been reduced.

While driving down the highway, my car shut down. this was very dangerous. i pulled over on the shoulder and every light was on stating engine power reducing. i have had this same part replaced twice in 1.5 years and there is something serious wrong with the impala.

My car just reached 50,000 miles and i was driving down the highway when my check engine light came on along with a stabilitrak error message. then a message saying engine power is reduced. i bought this car brand new! i went online and started to research these issues and found that there has been a lot of complaints about these exact issues most even the same year.

My car just reached 79,000 miles and i was driving when my car cut off in the middle of traffic! this happened twice in the same drive. it immediately started back up but then the check engine light came on along with a stabilitrak error message. then a message saying engine power is reduced. now the car's engine is making a terrible noise and is having problems accelerating without making a loud sound like air trying to blow through a pinhole. the chevy service department i took it to wants almost $700 just to take it apart to see what it wrong with it, which doesn't include the possible amount for repair. and they did not look at any of the technical service bulletins like requested! now they are saying my car is not able to be driven at all. i went online and started to research these issues and found that there has been a lot of complaints about these exact issues most even the same year. there is no reason that a car with 79000 miles should have engine problems. i owned a 2003 impala prior to this one and had almost 125000 miles before i purchased this 2011. there are way too many complaints going on with this car for it not to be recalled.

On my way to work, i was making a next turn at a light when my car all of a sudden shut off and then turned back on twice in a matter of 15 seconds. this is very dangerous, if it wasn't for the very attentive drivers, i could've been rammed!!! the second incident was after i got off of work. my car was in a parking garage when this happened. i tried starting my car and it wouldn't start. i tried a second time and it started but the engine was revving really hard, like i was about to speed off or something. i turned the car off again and started it again for the third time and "service stabilitrak, service traction control, and reduced engine power" all come up on the service screen. after reading multiple forums online with hundreds of complaints about this. i was scared to drive home. i drove at about 40 mph all the way home (my job is a 25-30 min commute) and fortunately i didn't get stranded and my car didn't turn off in the middle of driving like some folk have experienced. gm needs to address this problem. why isnt there a recall yet?!

Got a message on my dash a few months ago about "service traction control" while driving. traction control light lit up also. parked car and turned car off then on...message gone. took it into service...showed no error codes. today (5/2/16), it did it again with the traction control light and the check engine light simultaneously lighting up. "service stabilitrak", service traction control", and "engine power is recuded" are the messages i got today along with the check engine light and the traction control light being on. i had just gotten off the highway so i wasn't going fast when this happened. i was close to work so i parked it at work. turned the car off then on again and the messages were gone and traction control light was off but check engine light stayed on. turned car on again at lunch 1.5 hours later and the check engine light is off now so i doubt anyone will be able to diagnose or fix anything today. taking it to service to see if it threw any error codes a little later today. i've researched this issue and found that this has happened to a lot of people while on the highway. if it happens to me and i'm in an accident because of this, i will sue the s**t out of gm. i have two small children and if any of us gets hurt or killed, there will be h**l to pay. this issue should absolutely be recalled. it is not due to my key/ignition issue. already handled that recall. losing power in the middle of the highway randomly is absolutely dangerous and i'm now very afraid to drive this vehicle. will never buy another impala again.

Vehicle slowed on highway, reduced engine power warning message and stabilitrak meassage displayed also engine indicator light is on.

While driving the traction control, stabilizer, engine power warning all come on and the check engine light comes on and sometimes the engine turns off. pull off road, will not start then minutes later it starts. check engine light stays on. after multiple starts the check engine light goes out . i have read multiple complaints about this ,yet the nothing is being done. to repair this problem. the effects of this is the same as the ignition turning off. pending on traffic. this could be deadly. this has happened alot.

In the right rear section of car there is a rattle all the time.

I begin noticing issues when taking off from a complete stop where the vehicle would lunge forward like it couldn't shift into first gear. i had that checked and nothing showed as an issue, so the mechanic said it had to be electrical. this weekend i am driving it and after 25 minutes in the car the check engine light comes on, as does the notice that my engine power has been reduced, and to service the stability traction control system. i was coming to a stop light when it came on and i pulled off to turn off the car and restart it as that would work when it failed before to reset the system. it didn't reset and i had to drive it with reduced power the rest of the way to my destination. i had this fixed a couple years ago. i did get a notice from gm about the issue and the ability to be reimbursed or getting it fixed if there was a current issue and i was able to get reimbursed for it. now it is happening again, but my mileage is too high to get it fixed under this repair notice because the letter says that the mileage coverage is only up to 120,000. if this is a known issue and i have already dealt with it before, why should i have to pay for it to continually fail when it has nothing to do with normal wear and tear, which i would have no issue fixing as a part of maintaining the vehicle?! this should be something that gm would fix every time it goes out because it is clear the issue is a malfunction of the overall system and not linked to anything that the driver does or doesn't do to maintain the vehicle properly. in addition what if it has to be replaced multiple times as is the case with mine. i have always been a devoted gm customer, but honestly i am not sure i will ever buy another gm after this issue. it is unsafe and provides anxiety when driving, because it might fail at the worst time and could need fixed again even if i fix it this time.

Started seeing error message this morning on start up of the car: engine power reduced service traction control service stabiltrak experienced reduced engine power, traction light on, engine light on

January 31,2016 i was driving at a speed of 55mph all of a sudden my car speed gave three stalled jerks i immediately put on me emergency flashers because two other vehicles were behind me. from that point on i drove at a much slower speed; wasn't sure if my car was going to cut off in the middle of traffic or not. it was scary because this could have been a terrible accident. the traction stability -service light came on. my car was serviced for this very thing april 2015. why i am having this same problem?

I turn on the vehicle and then it shut off...like the ignition switch is faulty...then the stabilitrak comes on..i have to turn the key over slowly so it won't hesitate to turn on or shirt off

I was driving down the highway going 70mph when my service engine light came on and a message stating the stablitrak is on and the engine is reducing speed! acceleration pedal wouldn't do its job

on the morning of tuesday, june 2nd, 2015 just after 10am i was leaving my apartment managers office and when i was going in reverse and then to drive and touched the accelerator the impala began to shake and on the dashboard it said the engine power reduced to half and there was a problem with the stabilitrak. when i parked in front of my apartment building, i turned the car off then back on and it was still shaking/ idling rough and on the dashboard is continued to read, "engine power reduced by half" and mentioned stabilitrak. the engine light was also on during this time. i left the car and returned 10 minutes later and engine light was still on and while it no longer idled roughly, it still had stibilitrak on the dashboard.

While at a complete stop, when the vehicle is in drive, as i attempt to push the accelerator to drive through an intersection, the car will stall for a second, make noise that sounds like a whine, and then jump forward like it's having a difficult time finding first gear. the vehicle does this every so often, but not all the time. i've taken it into car x, my local chevrolet dealership, and another local goodyear tires dealer, but nobody has any idea what i'm talking about. the vehicle has been hooked up to a computer and technicians have looked at it, but just scratch their heads. there is even a forum online regarding this happening with other chevy impala owners [xxx] and owners seem to put lots of money into the issue but with no resolve. ** the issue seems to remedy itself when i turn off the traction control. ** there have been a couple of close calls where i'll be pulling through a busy intersection and the car will stall and i'll feel like i'm about to be hit because the car "dies" for a second. i feel this is a real safety concern that needs to be addressed. parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *an

Driving along and car just accelerated and could not get it to stop or slow down. traction control light came on, engine reduce power, low engine power, service stability trak, check engine light. i was pushing down on the brake trying to get the car to stop or at least slow down but the car seems as if it was getting fasting then it made a jerk and i bumped my head against the window, and my foot got stuck under the pedal and knee got jammed . my mom got hurt also and being jerked back and forth.

I hear a horrible grind when making a left hand turn after a stop, car also felt like it did not want to go forward causing hesitation in left hand turn - very dangerous with oncoming traffic. have had it to mechanic many times, either they couldnt find the problem or would fix this or that and then problems right back within days if not hours. occasionally get service stabilitrac and/or abs lights, usually lights would clear by next day when i took to mechanic and again they'd either find no problem or try a fix -still a problem. i believe they're going to try to replace wheel bearing next but from all forums i've read this doesn't seem to help people either, problem comes right back, recently rack and pinion had to be replaced costing $700 to fix, within 2 days i heard the grind, had hesitation on a left hand turn, noticed fluid under my vehicle upon return home, hoped it was a/c condensation, within days the power steering is going out again - turns out new rack and pinion is leaking and car is completely out if power steering fluid again after 2 weeks. i can't help but wonder if the sound and grind isn't what's causing my rack and pinion issues as well? have owned 2 years now with this problem continuously throughout ownership of the vehicle. approx. 68k miles on it when purchased now almost 90k have to be very cautious making left hand turns that there is no oncoming traffic as hesitation may cause you to get hit if vehicle can't turn in time. have to completely let off gas and try again sometimes still grinds if so repeat is all you can do. becoming very scary and costly with no fix found so far!!! please investigate! multiple posts regarding same issue some on newer models, very much a safety issue i can't even teach my child to drive in the car as i am afraid for their safety in it, as well as my own safety ever time i try to make a left hand turn.

Driving at approx 35 mph, my car showed service stabilitrack / service traction control / vehicle in reduced power. i did have reduced power, could not go any faster than 15 or 20 mph. i continued down the road another block and without warning, the car shuts down while going down a slight grade,, which cause steering to become very hard to use along with little to no braking, i ended up going thru a stop sign at the bottom of the grade because of lack of braking power, luckily no vehicles were coming, i got the vehicle stopped, and looked at the display, it said ignition disabled, service throttle. by the vehicle shutting down that is a safety issue, the vehicle should never shut down making steering and braking almost impossible, if it finds an issue with the throttle, it should just disable the throttle so i can steer and brake without problem. after attempting to start the vehicle a few times without success, the 4th time i tried the vehicle did start back up and was able to continue to work, but was did not seem to be running right and check engine light stayed on. *tr

Driving on 494e in bloomington, minnesota during rush hour and snowing. the traction control light came on and the check engine light came on, the car started to slow down very fast and lost power.the following msg came up service stabiltrak, reducing engine power.the car felt like it lost a couple of cyclinders and the transmission would not shift up easily. after turning the car off and restarting the stabiltrak msg was gone and the traction control light went off and the cruise control started working again.few days later the check engine light went off. chevy garage not sure of problem wants car for several days. i have heard may be throttle body not under warranty. *js

I turned my car on to let it warm up after work, then started driving home. then some lights popped on. it said service stabilititrak. it said that it was reducing engine power. service control soon. it was very scary driving home. the car would take off by itself and it felt like it was stalling out. its a fairly newer car 2011, i shouldn't be having these issues. *tr

In october i took my car to sandy sansing in pensacola fl the replace the keypad to my car, but now when you use the keypad it start to ticking on the right side of the dashboard we time it. the ticking last about 60 seconds and then it stop when ever you use the key pad to lock or unlock the car it make that ticking sound. it there any thing they can do to fix this. *tr

While driving along a curvy river road my check engine light , my traction control and the stabilize light came out. then the engine reduced power. barely made it home. waited for a few minutes restated the car and it ran normal but still feel the car hesitate. every time i drive it i worry that its coning to do it again. i live in the part of the county that gets snow and am worried its going to happen during a storm, this needs to be addressed. *tr

July 2015, "service stabitrac, losing power" lights came on. took to local dealer and spent $600 for repairs. september 2015, same problems, took for repairs - no charge. less than 2 days later the error code is back. dealer has no clue on problem remedy. when the lights come on, acceleration is affected.

My son while driving highway speeds 60-70mph, the car display would say "reduced power" followed by "service stabillatrac", "service traction control". shutting car down at highway speeds. shut car off for 5-10 minutes and would b fine for a week, a month, six months!!! this has been going on intermittently for over a year!! car not under warranty and cannot afford to take to dealer every time it happens, needless to say no one drives it but me. have not taking to dealer because research online and nothing seems to be a sure fix!! other people are replacing throttlebody,s, gas pedals, gas caps, abs sensors, various wiring harnesses, batteries, grounds, computers without any of them being a sure fix. someone will or may have already been killed by this malfunction and unfortunately did not live to say the car did this!!!! i know from reading online forums and the such that this seems to be a very common occurance on multiple years of this model!! all of this on top of a $2 key switch fix that took how many to die before anything was done!!!

first time i was slowing down to make left turn when engine light came on then message to check stabiliy trac and then traction control car lost power while making turn and jerked .i got the car back home by driving at low speed had to shut off and start several times before it would clear after it cleared drove fine for about ten miles at low speed as soon as i got up to50 mph engine lite came on started jerking and lost power again again message the same only now all messages are messed up everything is followed by cal i am afraid to drive this car as it is very dangerous .only had the car one month bought it on 6/16/2014 first problem happened on 7/16/2014 second 7/19/2014. *tr

I was driving down i-74 outside peoria il and the stabilitrac power reduced popped up on the dash and 3 seconds later it stated the anti-theft engaged and shut my car off. i almost got rear ended by multiple cars on the interstate. i was in the left lane and barely made it to the side of the road. i emailed gm and they have not gotten back to me yet. i emailed them the same day it happened. *tr

The service stabilitrak, traction control, and reduced engine power warnings came on and the car started to lose power going around a curve. i temporarily lost the ability to accelerate nearly causing me to get rear ended by a vehicle behind me. since the incident occurred the car has been very sluggish and unsafe to operate. i am planning to get this serviced asap. after reading many forum posts online regarding this safety issue, i believe a recall should be issued. i was shocked to see how rampant of a problem this and that it is usually caused by a faulty throttle body that isn't covered in the 100k mile powertrain warranty. myself and many others from what i have read believe this to be a very dangerous malfunction. if this were to happen at high speeds on the highway someone could very easily be killed if their car loses power due to this. *tr

I purchased the impala on june 16, 2014, there was some popping noise from the dash board on the passenger's side. the sale's manager had me bring the car in for repair the next day. the car was repaired within 2-3 days. i found out it was the actuator sensor. in january 2015 the transmission had to be replaced. luckily it was under the powertrain warranty. now 8 months later to the date (march 12, 2015), the stabilizer track-engine reduce power light and message came. i came to a stop. cut the car off for 15-20 minutes only for the light to reappear after moments of driving. i got to work. the car sat for 9 hours and still the light illuminated immediately upon starting the car. i found out it is the same problem and the extended warranty does not want to cover it. i am at my wits end and now the finance company wants me to continue to pay my monthly car note for a car that is not totally drivable...why??? gm should pay!!! *tr

The car started jerking while driving on the highway message panel said that the stabilitrac needed service and that engine power was reduced and the traction control needed service. i had just bought the car i took it back to the dealership they said it was something simple and fixed it. the next day it happened again only worse and the car would not go over 40 mph. the car is jerking and i am afraid to even drive it to the dealership. there are many complaints just like this. there really needs go be something done to help with this problem. *js

I was stopped at a light and the front end hesitated then took off normally. i got on a highway, drove 30 miles and as i was decelerating my check engine light came on and a message to service my traction control light appeared. i looked up this problem on the internet and see that it is a common problem across many models and numerous model years. it was suggested to log the complaint . *tr

I was on the highway doing 60mph and my dash showed a message engine power reduced, service traction station, service stabilitrak. the steering wheel completely locked up and the car shut off. i almost caused a major accident a car had to swerve around me. i managed to get to the side of the road in the construction area. this has to be looked into. i've researched online and i see a lot of impalas are having this same problem. this should be considered a serious safety risk. *tr

Cranked up the car to go home. stability light and "engine" light was on. while on the interstate passing a truck the engine died. display center indicated service stability track and reduced engine power. coasted over to rt. shoulder. car would not restart for about 30 sec. cranked it up and made it home. trouble code is p2138 which seems to indicate the throttle position sensor d/e voltage. will take to dealer in am. *tr

While on freeway check engine light and traction control came on and display read "reduced engine power" and "service stabilitrak" apparently a very common and dangerous issue that has not been recalled. i bought this car for my wife a couple months ago used and it has gone off multiple times. the engine shifts gears very rough and power is lost. scheduled to go to dealership tomorrow but looks like it will cost me. *tr

Started car had car for 2yrs now no problem what so ever and the service traction and stability control and also reduced engine power came on as well as engine light it jerked went it shifted and didn't act like it had it power as always but i just drove it 35 mph to get it home this i would think is a great big safety issue shouldn't gm have a recall on this? *tr

I was driving on the highway when "reduced engine power, engine light, electronic stabili trek" warning lights came on. my rpm was racing upwards but my engine never ran hot. i got off the highway because of the warnings and lost of acceleration. i got home and called gm customer service who advised me of no recall for that problem and connected me to a local dealership repair shop and i made an appointment. researching the car malfunction, i found numerous postings about the aforementioned problem. i took the car to dealership and mechanic called and said i needed a app sensor / pedal which is a factory only part. i ok'd the service work. the next day (april 18th,2014) the engine light came on briefly and the car was hesitating again, i called the dealership repair shop at 2:35 and spoke with mechanic that repaired my car and explained the problem. mechanic asked me if the light was staying on i replied no and he stated the mechanics are leaving in hour. i asked the mechanic if it was safe to drive car until monday, he replied yes. *tr

Driving on the highway with my daughter who is [xxx] exited to go to my mothers house and the car just died completely out of no where i was driving about 40 mph and barely got it off the road car wouldnt start back up and was flashing service stabilitrak/ service traction control/ and engine power is reduced i had to wait 5 minutes and then the car started thank god my wife wasnt driving who knows what would of happend but it is her car and we need to get this resolved asap before anyone gets hurt so im driving the impala and hope to be safe and let my wife drive my car please help asap we have a [xxx] girl and twins on the way. and this is not the first time my wife has told me this has happened. its very serious and could be deadly!!! *js parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

In may of 2013 i received a message on my dash board about stabili track, traction control and reduced engine speed. i took my car to the chevy dealer so i could get a diagnostic, and they replaced a sensor behind my pedal. just this weekend, sunday april 13, 2014. the message displayed across the dashboard again. i'm going to call the chevy dealer that fixed it the first time. then i'm going to call gm. this is a very dangerous malfunction in these cars. from viewing and reading other stories, this is something gm should have known about and addressed. *js

While driving down side streets, my car locked up. later my stability control light came on. seems to grab and pull car in a jerking motion. turned off control for the stability but afraid to drive on expressway. *tr

Backing out of my garage when check engine, stabilitrak problem, reduced engine power light came on message portion of dash.drove under reduced power, max 30 mph, to dealer, approximately 15 miles. left car with dealer for approximately 2 days. invoice from dealer said, diagnose code p2135, trace to throttle position sensor-bulletin replaced sensor assembly, gm 19300180 sensor kit, no charge to me under power train warranty. today, april 30, 2014, same warning light came on, stabilitrak problem, reduced power, when backing out of same garage. parked car back in garage and called dealer, have appointment tomorrow. hope they can permanently fix problem as driving under reduced power is dangerous and can occur anywhere. *js

As i was driving down the road my car lost speed drop from 35 mph to 20 mph, the check engine light came on and the triangle with the car and skid marks then it kept flashing the service stabilitrak control, engine power reduced, and service traction control and it started to jerk and jump. i have been having major issues out of this car first it was the right hub (eating tires), then the left hub (eating more tires), then the transmission and gear shift completely gone (replaced everything) now this plus the front tires are still getting ate up. this is an ongoing problem with this chevy impala. i am so ready to get a honda. as i see there are other owners that are having similar problems. why isn't it a recall on these problems? nobody likes too loose their money for something that should have been taken care of by gm in the first place. what will gm do if all customers protest about these issues that should be recalled on whether its for the public, private, or government sector? *tr

I started my car, and as i was pulling out of my driveway the following messages started coming up reduced engine power, service traction control , service stability track. i pulled back in , i turned the car off and turned it back on, the car seemed normal again, i then ,started going to work, about a mile from work the same messages started coming up and i did the same steps turned the car off and the turned it on again. i contacted the dealer and he stated it could be the throttle body, and they have been having this problem with this model car. however i was stated that it is my responsibility to pay for this defect. are they real, the have manufacturers defective part and i have to pay for this, that is unfair. *tr

While i was driving the service stability pack and traction control light came on and immediately after the reduced engine power came on. the car then jerked, and shut off while i was still driving, and wouldn't start again until approximately 30 minutes later. there were no wet nor road hazard conditions that would have caused this to happen. furthermore, i was driving at 60mph when this occurred in moderate traffic and almost got rear ended. this is a very unsafe issue, and i was told that the gas pedal needs to be replaced. since then my vehicle has done this several times. this issues needs to be recalled because a lot of individuals have complained about having the same issues with the impala. what is it going to take an injury or fatality for a recall on these vehicles. moreover, any vehicle that shuts off while driving at any speed because of an issues with throttle body/gas pedal needs to be recalled because this is a major safety issue. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that the reduce engine power and check stable link warning lights illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer and the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure and current mileage was 46,915.
