Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet impala. upon starting the vehicle, the service air bags warning indicator illuminated intermittently. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the issue. the failure mileage was 72,500.

I have gotten in touch with gm and chevrolet customer service and my local dealership who have refused to correctly diagnose my issue. i have been charged 99$ per visit to jones chevrolet and still have the service air bag light on my vehicle. it stays on all the time and intermittently goes away once in a blue moon. it started off with the light just turning on when i hit a bump or a rough road but now even on the highway it comes on. gm customer service told me that an air bag issues is the customers responsibility after my warranty is up however the air bag has never deployed or the car has never gotten into an accident so i am at a loss as to why it is my responsibility for the repair of such an integral safety part of the vehicle which should last and function without issues for at least a little while if not for a long time after the initial warranty is up. i have now spend in the upwards of $800 out of pocket to try and get this issue resolved but gm has not been cooperative at all. i had to leave 5 voicemails to an advisor to call me back and she and her supervisor rudely told me that they have given me a resolution and if god forbid i got in an accident and the air bag needed to deploy but didn't do so it would be on me and gm wont take responsibility. i am very concerned for my safety and the safety of my passengers. i have transcripts of service and recorded call from them to prove this. please assist.

The air bag light for the passenger side came on. i took it to river rest auto on 4/27/2015. they replaced the passenger presence system in the seat which is what the code called out for. the cost was 802.05. gm had recall 36110 for this problem in 08/2016. they are only willing to pay 115.96. i think they owe me the total amount. i have called them numerous times and have got no where. my case number is 8-2766201672. the car was moving when the air bag light came on. another light also told us the passenger air bag was not working so we had it fixed right away.

this was the first time the service air bag came across center info on dash info system. the light also showing that the srs was on indicating a problem. my husband came took the car for a test and no lights or warnings. took it to the dealership and serviceman stated if the errors are not showing it could be a problem trying to find the issue of the light and warning. with just over 10,000 miles on this vehicle 2009 impala because being over 5 years old i would have to pay for all checks which may or may not correct anything. my husband has checked it several times in the last few days and he didn't get any errors. i drove it to church today and sure enough it said service air bag and the icon light was on for driver's air bag. then no lights or warnings coming home. will the air bags deploy when this warning is showing? why can't the dealer inform owners of this vehicle that a problem exists. i found several places on line about the same problem. apparently one person paid over 900 dollars for a repair others said that dealers were of no help. i just want to go on record that this may be a safety issue and all owners with this problem should report it to gm and also to the nhtsa. *tr

My passenger airbag light is on preventing me from getting my inspection. it came on shortly after a recall was performed for a sensor that controlled abs/tc and engine losing power

I began making a left turn, when the vehicle lost control. the acceleration picked up and i lost control of the ability to steer. the brake would not press down and the vehicle picked up speed faster before hitting a tree. *tr

I contacted chevy service to inquire why my "service air bag" light came on when my vehicle had not been in an accident. they stated that no recalls were currently in place for air bags and they would cover the diagnosis cost to find out what the issue was. the service department called and said the "seat belt tensioner bracket was defective and needed replace" they also stated they had no of knowing if the air bags or seat belts would deploy in the event of an accident without replacing the defective seat belt tensioner bracket. it would seem to me that if this situation is true (safety restraint system can be rendered ineffective without notice) that possibly the situation should be looked into. the "service air bag" indicator was coming on and off by itself so i originally did not worry too much about it until it came on and stayed on. imagine my surprise when the gm service department stated that i could have driving around with no safety restraint system. imagine also my surprise when chevrolet customer service did not seem to see the urgency of who knows how many vehicles are out there with a potentially useless safety restraint system. please use your position or respect to pursue this issue and find out if there is a safety concern. thank you. i have case file numbers and more information if you require. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet impala. while driving 25 mph, the service air bag warning light illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 118,000.

I bought the car a few weeks later the air bag light comes on. it comes on and turns off at random times. i have called the dealer and they said there is no recalls for it. i also looked online and there is many more people having the same problem with there air bag system.

The service engine light goes on intermittently. sometimes stays off for up to a week and then comes back on. took it to chevy dealership and was told the module for the driver's side air bag needs to be replaced at a cost to me of $730- how can something like this happen when there has been no accident, low mileage or any type of "bumping" to the vehicle. i feel this is a safety issue that gm should resolve. upon looking into this complaint on the internet, i see there are quite a few that have this same problem. this is something that would effect any driver with this problem if there is a serious accident and the air bags do not go off as intended...updated 10/20/15 *bf updated 11/09/15*lj.....updated 08/11/16 *bf updated 1/20/2016 *js... updated 10/26/2017*cn

When trying to start this vehicle it will not crank over. the lights on the dash light up and the proper noises as if your starting your car come on; however the service airbag sign comes across my dash and the car will not crank over. i tried to use the keyless entry and this does not work either. i have placed a passenger in the front passenger side of vehicle and after leaving the ignition switch to on for a few minutes the car will then crank over. it will either start or just crank over and act as though it will start. if it does not start the first attempt i wait several more minutes and mess around getting in and out of the passenger seat. it will crank over and start. after reading several complaints on... http://www.impalaforums.com/chevy-impala-8th-gen-discussion/328381-service-air-bag.html#/forumsite/20859/topics/328381 i wonder why there cannot be a recall issued on this? it appears to be an ongoing safety issue. i have had this at the dealership without successfully being repaired. is there anything you can do about this? i do not feel safe in my own vehicle.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the warning messages for power loss, service traction control, and service air bags were displayed across the message board. the traction control warning light illuminated. the failure recurred on numerous occasions. the vehicle was taken to a dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 157,775. the vin was not available.

Service air bag light randomly comes on. warring can be erased by pushing the reset button so you continue to view information window. moving driver seat back or forward can something erase the warring. dealer could not tell if driver side air bag is working when the warring light is on, go figure! repair could be thousands of dollars. why are air bags not covered for a 100,000 miles or 10 years like emission components? after all air bag systems are safety issues and emissions are not! i will just drive the vehicle as is.

The "service air bag" light comes on and turns off occasionally. there does not seem to be something in particular that happens for the "service air bag" to either come on or shut off, but from what i have heard this is not an issue with the air bag. it has been to the chevy dealer more than once (not for that light) and they haven't even mentioned it. very nervous that if something were to be wrong with the air bag, how would i possibly know when the light was actually stating a real problem??

Air bag alarm light turned on and was alarming for more than one week, electrical connector issues were diagnosed by the dealership, dealership identified fretting failures. chevrolet dealership acknowledged that my vehicle is a target for ignition switch update however they informed me that no resolution to the ignition switch for my vehicle would be honored for my car. neither was there any further explanation for resolution nor was there any recommended safe resolution for me to execute. *tr

We own the car listed above and have for over two years. we bought it at a dealership in east tennessee. the car was previously used as a rent a car for enterprise. not even a year after we bought the vehicle we had to replace the transmission. the biggest problem is the fact i have drove this car and all issues stated for a recall we have had a problem with. the most recent is the vehicle shutting off while driving it on highways. it's is saying service engine light mad than will say service traction control, than it will shutoff i been going 70 down an interstate and it shutoff mad about kill us. we had the vehicle checked and the accelerator pedal sensor or something like that is the problem by what technician say. i am just now starting to research the issues we have and found numerous recalls on this vehicle in which we have the problems listed above and more. mainly the airbag steering control arm and vehicle just shutting off. i guess the best way to sum it up is they sold us a lemon perhaps but after looking at the recall list our vehicle meets the requirements for sure. too many problems for a new vehicle. just looking to take care of the problem before the car injures us or someone else on the highways. hope this doesn't take long to get resolved because deaths could occur. thanks for your time hope to speak with someone soon before it's too late. i mean i thought something major was wrong but the automd website really assured what we been thinking. thanks for your time. *tr

Check airbag warning came on. the right front seat belt tensioner kit was installed. checked codes had code b001b. replacement at the cost of $270.97. *tr

Service air bag light came on. had the car scanned to find out it was a passenger side air bag. now on 6/2/15 i am getting another service air bag light, but after i shut the car off, and turn it back on, the light does not come back on. the dealer tells me that until it stays on, they can not scan it. i am not very confident in the airbag system. i have been told by a technician that if one airbag is not functioning right the whole air bag system shuts down. scary!

Air bag light came on in may 2, 2014, and an email was received by the owner (me) that they should have a oil change- they did that and at the same time they told the person in the autonations garage that the air bag light comes on and they came back with a check up and said it was the sensor for the air bag rubbing on the seat belt and ruined it. causing possible injuries to person/persons in the moving vehicle if an accident ever occurred. this was then taken care of by autonations garage with "[xxx] asm" & the tech was "[xxx]" ! amount for replacement $445.07 vehicle had just run out of warranty! oil change along with tire alignment and other check ups that day came to $ 735.63 . information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Stopped at the top of a snow covered hill. put the transmission in 2nd gear and proceeded down the hill. the vehicle got up to about 15 mph then lost all power; engine quit, no brakes, and the steering wheel locked in place. because the brakes were not working the vehicle gained significant speed going downhill. not being able to steer the vehicle because the steering wheel was locked it went off the road and hit a tree. upon impact the air bags did not deploy. as a result the driver and passenger were seriously injured. *tr the consumer stated after owning the vehicle for a few months, the vehicle began to loose power and several messages appeared on the dashboard. all the power shut off and the consumer had to aaa to have the vehicle towed to where she purchased it. an inspection revealed the throttle body needed to be replaced. updated 07/10/14

I have owned the car since 9/2013. shortly after purchasing the airbag sensor light started illuminating on and off. i took it back to the dealer and it was serviced. shortly after that it came on again. then back in february the car started making a very annoying and embarrassing clicking sound that comes from the ac/heating unit. i was told that it was common in the impala and that it is the actuator. it has gotten so bad that it clicks even when the car is not running and is locked. i know at least 7 people here locally that has the same problems as listed above with the same year and model car. please take a survey or do something because this is definitely a manufacturing issue. *tr

We purchased a used 2009 chevy impala around february 2014. within a week of driving it we started hearing a loud clicking noise anytime we unlocked the doors or cut on the heat but everything seemed to be working fine so we just dealt with noise. i did look online only to find tons of people with the same problem and i also had multiple friends who said nearly every impala like mine they had been in made that same noise, wow! seriously? but me being the chevy lover, i just saw it as a minor issue maybe missed in production but not really a safety hazard. then a couple of months later that seems to have went away but now it takes about 2 minutes to get the ac to switch from defrost to blowing out of the dash vents. you can still hear it on, but it doesn't actually start blowing for about 2 minutes. still, not a big deal. then i was driving about 15mph(near a school) when a low oil pressure power off engine light came on and went off quickly, i pulled over and cut the car off and back on, no more issues. a few days later my service air bag light started coming on randomly, hmm, so if that light is on will my air bags deploy if needed? not sure... then i get alarms that someone in the passenger seat was not buckled in, but there was no one in the passenger seat. then my car starts cutting off randomly while i'm driving. this morning i backed out of my driveway and it just cut off leaving me in the middle of the street for a few minutes with no way for other cars to get around me.... it would have been terrible if i was pulling out and another car sped around the corner. then there is a recall notice sent to me stating i should remove everything from my key due to ignition failure recall. i saw on cbs you could request a free loaner vehicle until parts came in but the dealer only offered me a rental at 300/wk.wow, thanks gm for caring about our safety. *tr
