Purchased vehicle on 9/6/2012 used with 27,479 miles. on 9/19/2012 with 27,960 miles, i was accelerating on an onramp getting on a highway and two messages appeared on my dash: "reduced engine power" and "service traction control as well as the check engine light. experience rough and hesitant shifting between gears and could not go faster than 35mph. was able to safely navigate home on side roads. i took it to the dealer i purchased it from for service and was told it was reading code p2138 and the throttle pedal assembly needed to be replaced. the service was covered under the dealer's warranty and i was set to go. flash forward to 10/24/2012 with 29,355 miles, i was driving on a side road and the same messages came up. i called on star and they performed a diagnostic which resulted in the computer reading codes p2138 and c0242. experienced out of control wheel spinning and sensitive braking. took it to a dealer in the area i was currently in traveling for business and they could not diagnose with any issue. all codes and lights were not engaged. i still did not feel safe driving my vehicle due to problem with accelerator and had towed to the purchasing dealer near my home. they also could not diagnose with any issue as they could not duplicate the error. this is a serious safety concern and a problem (especially on the highway) with a popular model. i have also filed a complaint with gm on this issue and am hoping to have it resolved immediately. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 40 mph, the vehicles speed reduced after the engine power warning light illuminated. the failure recurred on several occasions. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v355000 (electrical system) however, the part needed to do the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 65,000. updated 4/6/15*cn
I have a 2009 chevrolet impala that i purchased in 2010. several months later, the car began to read check engine, service traction control, reduced engine power, then stalls and jerks while i'm driving. it happens intermittently. i took it to autozone to have them check the computer code. they said it was the accelerator pedal position sensor. the car only has about 50,000 miles on it. i am planning o taking it to the dealership because it is happening more often and i am afraid that i will have an accident as a result of this problem. *tr
After braking to make a turn, the following warnings came on: reduced engine power, service stabilatrak, and traction control off. plus the engine warning light came on. fortunately no accident occurred from this and i did experience reduction in engine power. these warnings remained on from the onset until this morning, 06/25/12, when i checked it again. now the warnings are not there. i started the car and moved it to see if they would come back on and so far, nothing. i have read that there have been numerous complaints of this problem with gm vehicles particularly this model. i want to add our vehicle to the complaint list due to the uncertainty of dependability of the car and the potential for serious problem and potential for accident.. i hope that with enough complaints, a recall will be issued by gm. *tr
My vehicle's ignition switch shut off, which caused me to lose steering. when i crashed, the airbag failed to deploy. i was driving in a large parking lot and went over a speed bump. i was knocked out but the police report indicated there were no signs of braking or steering. i took my impala to the gm dealership over 12 times.
I was driving to work on the freeway then i noticed that my car's rpm started bouncing up and down from two and a half to two and back and forth and then my check engine light turns on and says engine power is reduced and as well as the service traction light turns on. i see that i have to press on the gas pedal a lot more further down for my car to stay at 60 mph and after 2 minutes of this my car's rpm drops to 0. my car turns off with the car reading starter disabled and service throttle. i had to pull to the shoulder. this incident had made me late for work and this incident happens a lot now. this can happen from once every two or three weeks to twice a week. just recently my car's seat belts will become undone without anyone clicking the button for it to release. also recently my service airbags light has came on. *tr
Traction control light, and reduced engine power light came on. lost power to the engine and had to stop. turned the ignition off. waited 10 minutes and started the car. ran fine until i got home. this happened a few times before i took the car in. found out it was an accelerator pedal position (app) sensor.
Reduced engine power light/ servicetraction control light flash across my dashboard every morning when i drive my car. the car slows down and will not gain speed. it does this every morning. this issue need to be a recall. this problem is happening to every chevy impala owners i know. *tr
Engine light comes on and reduce power warning comes on then engine shuts off.
Let me try again....i was driving on the expressway, at 55 mph, when the check engine and traction control warning lights came on, along with the reduced engine power warning . i took it into the dealer, where i bought it in aug. 2009. i can't remember when this problem started & how many times prior, because the warning lights would go out, without any reduced engine power warning or reduced power. i thought it was one of what is called a computer glitches. it was at this time when i did get reduced engine power, when i knew i had to take it into the dealer. on nov.29,2010, the accelerator pedal was replaced......on jan.05, 2011, i brought it back and was charged only half of the rate for mech. diagnosis fee, because i argued so much, that the car is still under warranty, and they have not repaired the same initial problem. i left the car with them to drive, they drove it 28 miles without any problems. on jan.06,2011, mileage was 38727, they replaced the throttle body assembly, n/c. i think it was at this time, i was told to return the car, without shutting the engine off, which is what i did. on feb.05,2011, mileage was 39831, where they replaced a a.i.r. vent valve....i have changed living locations last spring....meaning there might be more times that it was brought in.....my memory is telling me that the both warning lights were coming on and off last year, and now more frequent, with slight reduced engine power ...81000 miles *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet impala. while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle stalled and the lower engine power warning light illuminated. the vehicle was restarted. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that an unknown part related to the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. in addition, while driving at various speeds, the air bag warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the technician stated that an unknown part needed to be tightened. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 65,000.
I was driving on the freeway at approximately 70mph, my check engine light came on. about 5 seconds later, my service traction control came on. as i kept driving, i lost power to my engine. finally, my engine was disabled and i couldn't drive anymore. luckily, i was able to pull over. after 5 minutes, i was able to start up my car. i replaced the throttle body, but my car still keeps doing this. this is very unsafe. gm needs to recall its cars. *tr
I had just turned onto this road, had not even gone a mile. no speed, no black marks, car shut down ran off the road and hit a tree stump. total the car. the steering wheel was bent almost in half. i have pictures of the car. i got this car new, so all miles we're put on it by me. i broke my hip, back, knee, dislocated my elbow, crushed my ankle and foot. had a head injury, a deflated lung. i was in the hospital for two months and a nursing home for a month. i have had 14 surgeries. still not able to work or do a lot of things for my self. with the recalls showing the issues of the engine shutting off, i need this looked into. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that oil was leaking from the engine compartment. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was confirmed that engine oil was leaking onto the exhaust manifold. the remedy was unknown. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 15v701000 (engine and engine cooling); however, the vin was not included. the failure mileage was approximately 63,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet impala. while driving approximately 65 mph, the traction control and engine reduce power warning indicators illuminated. also, the vehicle's speed suddenly decelerated to 45 mph and the air bag sensor and tire monitoring system indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to diagnose the cause of the failures. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 2,000. updated 10/22/2014*lj updated 4/1/2015 *js
