Problems with 2009 Chevrolet Impala ENGINE

On average, the 2009 Chevrolet Impala starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 88 376 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2009 Chevrolet Impala

Stopped at the top of a snow covered hill. put the transmission in 2nd gear and proceeded down the hill. the vehicle got up to about 15 mph then lost all power; engine quit, no brakes, and the steering wheel locked in place. because the brakes were not working the vehicle gained significant speed going downhill. not being able to steer the vehicle because the steering wheel was locked it went off the road and hit a tree. upon impact the air bags did not deploy. as a result the driver and passenger were seriously injured. *tr the consumer stated after owning the vehicle for a few months, the vehicle began to loose power and several messages appeared on the dashboard. all the power shut off and the consumer had to aaa to have the vehicle towed to where she purchased it. an inspection revealed the throttle body needed to be replaced. updated 07/10/14

While driving approximately 65 mph, the traction control and engine power reduced warning indicators illuminated. after driving a few miles with these indicators on the disabling throttle warning came on and the vehicle stalled. i managed to coast over to the emergency lane and was able to restart the car after approximately 10 minutes. this had occurred on numerous occasions and have not been able to have it successfully repaired.

The problem started in january of 2014. as i write this i want to say that i have read all the blogs on my complaints and see that i am not alone which forces me to ask gm why is it that we all see the elephant in the room and you people are ignoring it. suffice to say this problem is a safety issue would be the understatement of the century. when will gm step up to the plate and make these issues a priority so there customers don't have to waste time writing complaints like this one. it's really very simple my engine light is on along with the stabilitrak light as well as the car losing all power. now if gm feels this is not a good enough reason to create a recall i fail to see what is. people just like me have been complaining about this for years and gm does nothing. along with gm being at fault the dealerships are [xxx] there customers while they go thru a laundry list of items they think might be the problem for these codes. i for one cannot afford the dealership prices nor will i pay these so called experts good money after bad to try and fix problems that they really have no idea as to what's causing them. i originally bought this chevy b/c i wanted an american car for a change, man was i wrong. as soon as i fix this heap i will sell it before anymore lights go on and go right back to honda where at least i know they stand by there cars and it runs way into the six figures before any real problems occur. i'm one of the little guys that bailed out gm and by the way were still paying taxes for that bailout. how about it gm, don't you care about us at all? *tr parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle stalled with the illumination of the engine and traction warning lights. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 92,000.

My issue was that i was four months into driving my new 2009 chevy impala and while driving on the highway going about 60 mph my car showed flashing signal reading "engine reduced speed" "check stabilitrack " and my check engine was on. the car then stopped accelerating and dropped to 45 mph immediately. i was nearly rear ended with my son in the car. after researching and hearing complaints about gm and how they are not taking responsibility of this safety issue and actuality charging people to fix their defect. their are numerous blogs and videos proving this. examples: show over 23,000 drivers with the same issue http://www.[xxx] : http://www.[xxx] thank god it does not look like any fatalities have occurred as of yet but who knows. please don't let someone get injured or lose their life to take notice to this. gm thinks injury or lose of life = $222.00. i am in contact with a law firm in hopes of a class action. *tr parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

When i pressed down on my accelerator pedal (speed limit was increasing from 50mph to 65mph), a message of "starting disabled. service throttle" came up on the dash. the accelerator pedal and steering wheel completely locked up and the car started to decelerate. i was able to force the steering wheel in order to turn onto a side street (narrowly avoiding a car stopped in the left lane to turn) and park the vehicle in a location out of the main lane of traffic. had this side street not been there at that exact moment, the possibility of a crash would be very likely as steering was unresponsive and i may have been rear-ended due to the sudden loss of engine power. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that anti-freeze fumes were entering the vehicle and the lower enlist line was replaced. most recently, the failure recurred and the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician stated that the cross over gasket, crank timing cover seal and the lower enlist line would need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 56,000. the current mileage was 86,000.

While driving i keep getting message stating reduce engine power and the car will start sking and lowering speed. there also is electrical problems all the time with a any reason and then they will start working again. i even got pulled over once over this issue. *tr

I have had numerous problems with my 2009 impala. from the very beginning with only 100+ miles on it and the problems continue today. the dash will say reduced engine power and as i was going down the road at 55 miles an hour my car just shut off. i was able to get it to the side of the road and just sat there wondering what was going on. it wouldn't do anything, it was just completely off. i was about to call for aaa and tried one more time and it started. this happened again in november of 2013 as well and i was going 45 on a country rd. again i was able to pull to the side and sat there and waited again. when this happens the car will do nothing. i have problems with my traction control, making a strange grinding type noise and bogs the car down from moving when i am trying to accelerate from a stop or trying to turn either left or right. i have had problems with my air bag lights coming on and telling me to service my air bags. it comes on and goes off and comes on and goes off. the dash light will come on and tell me to shut engine off now for low oil pressure, this has happened for 4 years, the car is 5 years old. this car was never a good car from the very day it came off the lot. *tr

This is the 1st time i am filing a complaint, but this complaint has happened multiple times! my wife is afraid to drive this car! my check engine and traction control light comes on. the dash alternates between "service traction control" and "reduced engine power." this is really frightening on the interstate when the engine begins to reduce power and you are surrounded by fast moving vehicles. the fault has been checked multiple times, but the diagnostic check reveals bogus faults unrelated to the traction control fault. i have learned that when this happens, i need to pull off the road, turn off the ignition, open the door and wait for the dome light to go off. then i can restart and go on my way. this happens about once per month and has done it for 2 years. can't wait until i can afford to buy a different vehicle. i have talked with other chevrolet owners and they experience this same fault, but nothing is wrong with the traction control. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet impala. while driving at 40 mph, traction control, engine power reduced was displayed across the message board. the contact independently replaced the accelerator pedal; however, the failure recurred. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.

I was driving on city streets and my check engine and traction control light came on. the dash alternated between "service traction control" and "reduced engine power." yes the engine power was reduced but i was still able to drive in the city. *tr

Today must of been a record for how many times my impala shut itself off! i lost count at about 20 times! im over a hundred miles away from home at my parents house and on my attempt to get home the impala wouldn't let me drive more than 10 minutes. because of this i have now had to call off work and am out of a days wage because i made the mistake of buying this car. i have no money and cant get this fixed for awhile but it seems that i may have to chose between eating this month or fixing this so i guess ill just go hungry. i've been searching this site for other year impalas and it seems that every single year is having this issue, even the 2014 models! this has made me reach the conclusion that the nhtsa doesn't really care about our safety nor do they attempt to solve any problems based on how many times this complaint gets reported and does anything ever happen!? the answer is no! so im basically writing this to inform others who plan on getting an impala, please for the safety of yourself, those around you, and your wallet don't! this is my last gm car i will ever purchase! not that gm really cares because they already got my $60,000 for my last 3 cars so this problem will never get recalled, nor will this website attempt to provide any type of help so save yourself the headache and buy foreign. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that the engine failed to start. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the technician was unable to duplicate the failure. in addition, the contact stated that although the vehicle has never been involved in a crash the air bags had to be replaced a total of eleven times. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the issue. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was unavailable.

While sitting at a stop light the information panel said reduced engine power as the light turned green. i held up numerous cars as i scanned the obd2 port to clear the code, once again the code read p0601. cleared it and it started right up. *js

After just clearing the onboard computer with my obd2 scanner just a few minutes before it happened again. after sitting at another stoplight i proceeded into my left turn and as i'm coming into the lane my impala died midway through the intersection as it changed from yellow to red leaving me in the intersection as the cross traffic began to go almost creating a head on collision and a multiple vehicle collision. can a recall please be in effect for this! its to the point to where i'm afraid to drive my car to work! i'd rather walk the 20 miles to work then be in this unsafe gm car! *js

After 1 month of having my throttle body reset by the dealer, the car acts up again. yes again in the rain. well, i have an idea why it may be acting up. the freaking computer is located were the air intake is. so when the car starts, you guessed it gm it sucks in moisture aka rain, then the rain goes across the computer and all [xxx] breaks loose. reduced engine power, traction control and it is ridiculous! why in the [xxx] do you put a computer were it is in direct line with moisture. my 2002 trailblazer has the computer under the passengers seat. guess what no freaking problems even after 257000. this is a safety complaint! the car is begging to be another ford pinto. please recall the car, and move the computer. this should solve your problems, and it may give people a little less bad taste in their mouth. i know i have renamed my impala to the ford impala. not to insult ford motor company but mine actually stands for fix or repair daily impala. i used to love my impala and i used to be a loyal to gm, but if this does not get recalled i see it being my last gm car i buy ever! bring back the pride in owning a gm, before the gm name will stand for garbage motors. signed, once a loyal gm owner [xxx] *js parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

On my commute to work on the interstate my impala shut itself off. i was in the left lane when the car showed the reduced engine power on the information panel, it then fully disengaged all engine power and powersteering. being in the outside lane i had to maneuver my impala through the heavy traffic and almost caused numerous accidents trying to squeeze to the shoulder. i then coasted off into the grass almost into a large ditch but i slammed on the brakes hard and went into a skid coming to a full stop. i scanned the car with my obd2 scanner, it read p0601. *js

I was driving down a very busy street looking for a restaurant and my car made three dinging sounds indicating a issue. before i even could read what was displaying on my information panel the car lost all power steering and engine power. because i was traveling at about 55mph i could very luckily coast to a parking lot near by. after coasting to a parking spot i put the car in park and read the information panel, it read reduced engine power, service stabilitrak, and service throttle body. because i know most american made cars are pure garbage i wont drive one without a ebdii scanner. after reading the ebdii scanner it showed a p0601 code, which indicates a pcm memory issue. after clearing the code it started right back up and drove for about 10 more minutes until i was at a parking lot on a steep grade. the 3 dings happened again and my engine shut off causing me to roll backwards about 10 feet almost into over vehicles. i have done some research on this and have come to found that this is a engineering fault caused by to much current flowing into the power control module, which creates a small hairline crack on the pcm onboard computer, with which many many other gm products have experienced. i feel a recall should be done on all gm products affected by this, this is very unsafe and i feel could lead to deaths. i am a [xxx] male who could control the vehicle with no power steering, imagine a student driver encountering this issue and not being able to maneuver the vehicle away from other drivers or even innocent pedestrians! i know for a fact this has happened to many other gm vehicle owners so does a body count have to stack up before a recall is issued by gm?? *tr

Three times now this has happened. the first time i was driving down a main street at about 35 miles per hour and all of a sudden my service traction control light came on and the wording was displayed, as well as my check engine light came on and the wording "engine power reduced" was displayed. about a month later, i was leaving a parking lot when the same thing happened and then again four days later i was merging onto a highway and the same thing happened. when i try to accelerate, it sounds like something is going to fall out of the bottom of my car. after reading the other complaints, i don't understand why this isn't being taken care of by the company and left up to the car owner to deal with. it is very unsafe and i can't afford to get a different car nor pay for expensive repairs that are beyond my control or fault. *tr

I drive a 2009 chevrolet impala. on 8-6-13 driving the far lane on the highway i experienced a series of warning messages on the dashboard. the messages were, "service traction control, engine power reduced and service engine." as the speed of the car began to reduce, i went to merge into the slow lane to prepare to take any necessary precautions. before i could switch one lane a message popped up saying, "steering column has been locked." at that point the steering wheel became very tight almost enabling me to steer into the right lane. at the same time, the vehicles mileage has dropped down to practically nothing. lets remember i'm on the highway during 5:00pm rush hour. by the time the oncoming traffic reached me, i was able to get off onto the should of the highway. i then get a warning message saying, "engine has been disabled." at that point i shut the car off. i've lost a family member to car failure on the high way. at this point i sit for about a minute or two and then start the car back up. after turning over a couple of times, the car starts and operates at an exceptional speed. imagine had the cars behind not been paying attention. maybe they were texting, fatigued, looking behind them or anything to have made them not notice the disabled vehicle ahead. this could've been a massive fatal crash. my [xxx] year old child would not have stood a chance. after researching on the internet that this is a known issue and gm has done nothing to justify the poorly assembled parts, i am very upset at the lack of concern for their buyers safety. as a single parent, i had no choice but to have the car serviced as soon as possible to eliminate any safety hazards to my child. coming out of $300+ for something gm should've recalled when notified is unacceptable. i will be contacting all sources possible to inquire on getting a recall and hopefully saving someone's life. *tr parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u

I am having problems with my 2009 chevy impala, it started at 43k, the acceleration pedal was changed when the reduced engine power/service traction control came on. then again at 100k same problem, this time the dealership told me it was a bad throttle position sensor, the throttle body needed to be changed. i changed it, but it came back again less then 3k miles. i replaced the throttle body again. 3k later same thing. the problem is when it is raining the throttle sensors go nuts. i took the car to advance auto and read the codes, same as before, p0121, p2176, throttle position sensor. once in a while you can remove the batter lines and unplug the throttle body and mass air flow sensor to get it to restart. other times you have to go to advance or autozone to clear the codes in order to get it to run long enough for a sunny day. i had one occurrence were the car would not start and it said service throttle position. the throttle sensor needs to be recalled before someone get killed. i have renamed my car to the ford impala. found on the road dead impala. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 35 mph and encountering the railroad tracks, the engine stalled without warning. the vehicle was restarted and resumed to normal. the failure recurred twice. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 130,000.

Mine seems to have the same problems as most people. traction control. service airbag, reduced engine power lights come on. car dies while driving once the lights come on. doors don't unlock unless it's done manually. messages flash on my readout over and over again. tells me to check tire pressure on each tire even though the pressure is fine. detects passenger in passenger seat when there is nothing in the passenger seat. ridiculous! i am not ever buying another one!! *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet impala. while driving on the highway, the vehicle experienced reduced engine power and stalled. the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the contact also mentioned that the air bag warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was towed to an unknown dealer where it was diagnosed that the ignition switch was defective and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the contact experienced a similar failure three years ago. the vehicle was taken to mcdermott chevrolet where it was diagnosed that the failure was attributed to nhtsa campaign number: 14v355000 (electrical system). the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the contact also took the vehicle to the same dealer because the air bag warning indicator illuminated. the contact believed that the indicator was illuminated due to nhtsa campaign number: 16v507000 (air bags, electrical system). the technician informed the contact that the failure was not due to the recall and refused to pay for the repairs. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 126,000.

I recently purchased a chevrolet impala ltz 2009 model a few months ago and it has 82,000 on it. while driving on the highway my check engine light came on. it said that i had a bad accelerator sensor. followed by a flashing light that said my car had reduced engine speed. i have looked up many times about this issue with my car and many other people have had problems with a bad gas pedal. gm knows and i'm confused as to why they never asked for a recall on this. *tr

About 2 months ago i was on the interstate & i received the message 'service stabilitrak , engine power reduced '. i was using cruise control at about 75 which immediately cut off , the cars speed dropped quite a bit, i stopped for fuel, turned the car back on & the error was gone. just a few days ago the same issue happened, i was only going about 40 this time, the message flashed & my cars power immediately began to drop. i could feel the cars hesitation when i attempted to accelerate & then it jolted a few times & cruised fine. the issue seems to be a sensor in the pedal which is common with this car. the fact that my engines power can cut at anytime ,including in the middle of highway traffic is a scary thought. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet impala. the contact was driving approximately 40 mph when the check engine warning indicator illuminated continuously as there was a sudden reduction in engine power. the contact was able to continue driving. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 83,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet impala. while driving at approximately 40 mph, the fuel gauge went down to zero. also, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle did not accelerate. the service engine soon warning indicator illuminated. the failure recurred three times. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or diagnosed. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v355000 (electrical system). the failure mileage was approximately 115,000.

About 2 weeks ago my service traction control light appeared on the dash. being the person that i am i was very concerned with this issue and took it to have it checked by the dealership. they told me that this will occasionally come on with the amount of rain we had in our area.they said when it has the opportunity to dry out it will go off. well to date it has not gone off but stays on the majority of the time. now it is having fun with the reduce power light which basically slows down the car. not only are the flip flopping but when i push the brakes it sometimes acts as if it will catch but then let go and catch again. how scary is this when you feel your brakes will not stop the car? this is not a good feeling. called the dealership to get an appointment and it will cost me $85 to $100 to have this put on a machine to see what the problem is. and get this just like everyone else this is not a covered problem. my question is why? i have tried very hard to stick with chevrolet products but this is really making me rethink my decision. everyone seems to be having the same issues with these alerts and sensors. i am not one to sink a whole lot of money into a car with repairs, i will get rid of it immediately. i maintain my car on a regular basis. *tr

My chevrolet impala reduces the power of the engine down to 20 mph or less and indicates check traction control and reduced engine power. i was almost rear ended because of this and had to pull off the freeway to avoid further potential collisions. *tr

While driving. apprx 30-45mph. random service light appeared showed as "reduced power engine" vehicle then automatically slowed down. turns off without notice. un-safe. over 1500 reviews same situation same vehicle. *tr

While merging onto a two lane highway my impala suddenly lost power and i received a "low engine power" warning and then " service traction control" the check engine light comes on and the car runs roughly at reduced power - you need to pull over and shut the car off until you can start it again. this is a very dangerous issue that gm refuses to acknowledge. in this instance i had my daughter in the car - i also lost the power brakes. i have been to two chevrolet dealers and a buick dealer because this has happened several times over the past year and a half. they replaced my throttle body, oil sensor, battery and something else and charged me over $2000 for the three visits and i am still experiencing the issue. i have also been to a local repair shop and had the wiring harness changed and had several diagnostics done. after all this the problem still exists. i normally don't write letters but, this is a very dangerous situation and many others are experiencing the same thing based on the message boards i have read. my concern is that gm refused to help or issue a recall. my fear is that someone gets seriously hurt or killed before gm answers for this. this is not good for gm. my hope is that someone finally addresses this issue before someone is killed. in my last communication with gm - i was told to take my car to a dealer for a diagnostic at my own expense. so, basically i am on my own and they offered to do nothing. just not right! *tr

The vehicle suddenly decelerated and displayed messages: "reduced engine power" and "service traction control". this was the second incident. the first incident resulted in the engine shutting off completely after the same initial symptoms described; locking up the steering during rush hour traffic (estimated 65 mph, no injures, approx. 4 month ago). our mechanic cleaned out the throttle body sensor after the first incident, and phoned the dealership with the trouble codes. the dealership refused warranty service as the trouble codes had gone by the time the car had arrived at their shop, and would not take our mechanic's phone conversation as evidence. we were informed that the three services commonly performed to fix the problem were to replace the throttle body, throttle body sensor, and accelerator pedal; the latter not covered under warranty. *tr

At about 60,000 miles, my 2009 chevy impala has an issue with the service traction control and then reduce engine power. i have read it is the throttle body and not covered under the extended warranty. *tr

I was driving on the hwy when the message appear on the boar "engine power reduce " i was scared because i have never had that problem. i when online and saw that people were having the same problem. it was weird because they all seen to be in the same month like if it was program to happen. so i want an explanation on what's going on with my car? what's the message about? do i have to change the motor ? i just don't know what to do anymore this car has a lot of problem i just want some answers . thanks for reading. *tr

Turned car on and the check engine light came on. took to mechanic who said it was the air injection solenoid valve and that it is such a common part replacement on these models that they keep the exact part in stock! they want over $400 to repair. *tr

Driving on freeway, check engine light come pn...few miles on freeway car jerk...message on dash engine power loss then throttle body disabled the engine shuts off while im driving 60 mph...18 wheeler blind me so i swerve off freeway due to steering wheel hard to turn...i sit on side of freeway f 10 minutes...turn key and no sound. car will not start...call friend for help. after 30 minutes car starts i could have been killed with car shutting down on freeway...gm fix issues. or pay big later..death trap. *tr

I have a 2009 chevy impala lt & was driving aproximately 50mph down the road when all of a sudden the "service traction control message came on, the check engine light came on & engine power will be reduced message came on". the cars speed dropped down to about 40mph & would hardly go. i didn't know what was going on. it really scared me because i thought my car was going to cut off. i did get to work safely but i am terrified to drive this car. i searched message boards on the internet & came across 297 messages from other people who own gm vehicles that this has happened to. a couple of people said their cars actually cut off on them while going down the highway at a high rate of speed. one was involved in an accident. the problem from what i have read has something to do with the accelerator pedal position sensor or throttle body. from what i have read gm knows about this problem but has not done a recall on this. a couple of people posted that their local chevy dealership covered the repair even though their cars were no longer under warranty. i called my local chevy dealership and they told me that they couldn't do anything about it. they said that i would have to pay for repairs myself. to me, this is unacceptable. i could have a wreck & get killed or kill someone else. i don't understand why a company would clearly know about a problem with their vehicles and do nothing about it. i think that gm should cover the repairs to my vehicle and to any others that are having this problem. *tr

I was on highway one evening and my cruise control was engaged. my power went out completely on the car. i immediately noticed that the car shut down and i was able to coast to the side of the highway. after gathering my bearings, i was able to turn the car back on and drive off the freeway. it was determined that my oil was low (no warning light). prior to this incident, i was going down hill on a local street when my warning system came on and indicated that i had reduced engine power and traction stability control issues. after going to the dealer, it was determined that my oil was extremely low, however no leaks or cause was ever found. prior to this, i had to get my accelerator sensor replaced because the reduced engine power warning came on. it was not covered under warranty and i had to pay several hundred dollars to 'fix' the issue. as recently as yesterday, june 16, 2014, i turned my car on and the reduced engine power and traction control warning came on. i immediately turned the car off and checked the oil. it was low but no warning light to indicate this issue came on (same as in the past). i faithfully get my oil changed every 3,000 miles or 3 months, whichever is first. my oil life was at 54% yesterday and i did take it in for an oil change this morning. it is obvious based on others experiences, that this is a known issue amongst 2009 impala owners. the fact that i did not receive a warning when i was on a major highway and my car shut off while still in motion, is extremely scary and it traumatized my son tremendously. i am hoping that some type of investigation will be initiated because it could result in serious injuries or even death. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet impala. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v355000 (electrical system). while driving approximately 35 mph, the traction control and engine power reduced warning lights illuminated. the vehicle stalled and was able to restart; however, the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 cherolet impala. while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would suddenly lose power and slow down before stalling and shutting off. when the failure occurred, the check engine light illuminated. the cause of the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 85,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet impala. the contact was driving approximately 60 mph when the engine stalled with the illumination of the check engine and traction control warning indicators. the contact restarted the vehicle and it resumed as normal. the failure recurred three times. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the defect. the approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

Service traction engine power reduce. *tr ## vin failed ##

As i was driving on the interstate all of a sudden i feel the vehicle slow down and the message center displays "traction control off" "engine power reduced". i was traveling about 65mph at the time however to maintain that speed after this happened i had to press the gas pedal further. the stabilitrak light stayed on for a days also. *tr

While traveling on the expressway a check traction system warning appeared along with reduced engine power. after approx. 10 miles the engine shut down and i was forced to pull off to the side of the road. i shut the engine off and attempted to restart and the starter would not engage. after waiting approx. 3 minutes i was able to start the car and warning system was gone however the check engine light remained. *tr

As i was driving to golf on monday september 24th, on interstate i-80 heading west, my 2009 chevy impala onboard computer stated the following, service traction control, reduced power, starter disabled and the check engine light all at roughly the same time. my car completely died and i had no power steering. luckily i was able to coast out of harms way and get to the side of the road. i checked some wires under the hood and didn't find anything loose. when i attempted to start the car back-up, the onboard computer flashed, starter disabled. i sat with the car for about 15 minutes and tried once more. this time it started and ran normal, but the check engine like was on(still is). how scary is this really? enough to make me hate driving this car anywhere. not to mention i'm a single dad of 4, who needs to get to work, school and many other things. *tr

While traveling on i-95 at about 75mph, the following message appeared on the dash," repair traction control system... engine power is reducing". thankfully, i was approaching a rest area, so i safely coasted to a secure area. after escaping a potentially fatal accident, i researched this traction control message, only to discover innumerable customers had the same problem. this issue should be investigated since it is a universal problem, one that is endangering the lives of gm and other drivers on the highway. *tr
