I own a 2009 chevrolet impala. i was driving on the highway at 65 mph when the check engine light, traction control light and engine power reduced light came on. a few minutes later, in heavy traffic it said engine shutting down and there was a short countdown displayed before the engine died completely. this is very dangerous and i am lucky to have been able to get over to the shoulder without getting hit. *tr
I have been having the service engine light come intermittently along with the service traction control light. i have had a technician look at this for me and advised that the throttle control sensor (accelerator pedal) is going in and out. the accelerator pedal is connected to a sensor that drives the throttle on the engine. when this happens intermittently the vehicle looses engine power and traction control. *tr
This is the 3rd time: while driving, speed reduces dramatically, service engine indicator comes on followed by warnings: "engine power reduced" and "service traction control". my research on the issue to find out how to fix, shows many people having the exact same problem that isn't getting resolved by gm. engine power reduction to such a dramatic speed can be extremely dangerous for not only the operator of the affected vehicle, but also anyone else on the road near the driver. *tr
While driving about 35 mph, my car instantly reduced speed and the traction control and powered reduced to engine light displayed. my car reduced speed to about 10 mph and i couldn't accelerate anymore. i began coasting. i drove directly to the dealership and was charged $400 to "fix" the problem. *tr

Driving to work and the service traction control light went on then engine power reduced and throttle error and the car would not accelerate and powered down. i was at red light so i turned the car off and turned it back on the car would not accelerate so i turned it off again and waiting put my flashers on, waited a few more minutes and the car finally started to move. i took to the dealership because it's a powertrain issue and i have 100k powertrain warranty and the dealership said it's not powertrain and wanted $778 to repair, i called chevy after seeing the forums only this is a known issue thousands of people with the same complaint and chevy said they are going to work with the dealership. i have to be back at work monday and drive through a very rough neighborhood i do not want to breakdown in that neighborhood. *tr

At 55 mph, a warning message stating service traction control-engine power reduced appeared. while driving downhill or on level ground, i had sufficient power to continue driving. when headed uphill it was extremely difficult to get the car to shift into a lower gear. when it finally did shift, it shifted hard and really jerked the car. a few miles down the road, i rounded a corner and began to pick up some momentum. without warning, the engine stopped and another warning light stating starting disabled-service throttle appeared. i had enough momentum to move off to the side of the road. i tried to start the car several times. the engine did not crank and the message continued to flash. i completely turned the key off and sat for a few minutes. i was about to call for a tow truck when i tried again. the engine started and i was able to continue home with no issues. a few days later, the first message i mentioned appeared (service traction control-engine power reduced). i was still at work, so i found a parking space and turned the engine off immediately. a few minutes later, i restarted the engine and drove away. i guess i'm just lucky this didn't happen on the turnpike or interstate. gm has to know about this. i guess they don't pay attention to near-misses. *tr
We received a letter saying this year and model have a poor solder connection that causes reduction in engine power and traction control failure. our car has this problem. however, chevrolet will only pay for the fix if it is under warranty and has less than 120,000 miles. we believe that most six year old cars have more than 120,000 miles and chevrolet is just covering themselves from lawsuits with this letter. if they soldered something improperly they should fix it regardless of the milege on a vehicle.
Car states reduced engine power stalling to about 10mph very dangerous. many complaints about this issue. *tr
On my display i have seen daily (service traction action) and (engine power reduced) along with (service airbag) for more than a year, did not service due to cost and it is not my fault! my car usually slows down once the engine power reduced displays causing the car to jerk due to me trying to give it more gas so as not to be hit from the back. as my grandchildren and i were headed home on the freeway my car decided to just shut off. on the display it read first.. service traction action and then starting disabled service throttle. my car immediately lost power and i began to pray hoping i would not get hit from the back with my grandchildren sitting in the back. once i pulled over my car would not start i sat for about a minute and tried to start again and it started. just today 01/12/2015, with my grandchildren in the back of my car again my car decided to loose power again but this time it did something very different, it would not allow me to first reverse and then it allowed me to but soon after i could not go forward. the gas peddle acted as though the car was completely turned off but the car was running. when i attempted to press the gas peddle i pressed it all the way down to the floor, nothing happened. i ended up calling a towing service and after telling them what happened i was told my issues stemmed from a electrical system issue that chevy had recalled. this does not make any sense for so many of us to go through the same issues but nothing be done about these issues. something needs to be done quickly!! *tr
My engine power reduced light came on alone with the traction light. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle stalled as the traction control warning light illuminated. the vehicle was able to restart. the vehicle was shut off and failed to restart. as a result, the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine control module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
Was driving when the traction control light came on and message came across saying service traction control: then check engine light started flashing rapidly at the same time. follow by a very loud knocking noise from the engine. then speed would not accelerate. turned on flashers and coasted into parking lot. vehicle had troubles restarting and would not move. steering wheel was hard to turn. tries to die while idling after you get it to start. did diagnostics and code p0300 random misfire detection power train unable to establish a link to the vehicle. fuel system 2 is ol, lift at 0%, spark plug 13.5, fuel level low 38.8, ecu 14.417, low acceleration. contacted local chevy dealership and was told it will cost $35 to tow it to their shop and about $85 just to run a diagnostic on their machine. if it is a lifter the cost will be over $700 to get fixed. i purchased this automobile in august 2013 and have just had it a year. so now i have a car payment on a car that doesn't run. i bought it at wk motors in sedalia, mo. this is the second time this car has had issues and without a warranty the dealership wont do anything!!! *tr
I was driving my car into a series of turns at approximately 45 mile per hour when it seemed i lost engine power rapidly and the car decreased speed to approximately 20 mile per hour i could not accelerate. i could barely steer and braking was really difficult. i managed to get the car off of the road where it set for approximately a minute or two before it would restart. i contacted gm and my dealership and did not get a satisfactory answer either place. this is exactly what my recall letter describes yet i was told that my issues were not due to the recall. i am greatly disappointed to be paying for a vehicle that is not safe for me to drive. *tr
While driving, i got to about 60mph and the traction control as well as tire pressure light came on and engine power reduce. i dropped to 40-45mph then system said entering trottle mode and vehicle cut in road. i pulled over, turned ignition off and waited 2 or 3 minutes then i was able to restart vehicle. *tr

I cranked my 2009 chevrolet impala leaving a nearby gas station and the message service traction control flashed, then engine power reduced, and the check engine light came on. my car drove sluggish home at a very slow speed. luckily i was only about 5 minutes from home. the next morning no message was displayed and the check engine light went off. i took it to advance auto parts and the code p2127 was displayed twice - throttle pedal position sensor. i see most of these complaints are similar to mine i just happen not to be on the highway. is gm investigating this because this is serious with multiple occurrences? *tr

Accelerator pedal position sensor app went out. after checking with several car service departments they said i should report this. lots of people with this same car our having this problem. *tr
I was involved in a violent, jarring collision on june 26, 2014 with an suv in las vegas, nv. i was rear-ended by a toyota rav 4. i sustained significant injuries, & my car suffered substantial damage, which resulted in my vehicle being deemed a total loss. the engine automatically shut off & the vehicle airbags did not deploy because the ignition switch moved out of the run position, turning off the engine. the gm provided remedy was not made available until september 2014. *tr
I was driving on the highway and suddenly lost speed and the engine light came on and also a couple of messages. "reduce engine power" and "service traction control". i have encounter a lot of impala owners with the same problem, which leads me to believe is a manufactures mistake. *tr
I was driving on the highway during rush hour traffic going approximately 65 per hour and the service traction control came on and then said that engine power was reduced. it also had the engine light come on and stayed on all the way home. i then got home safely that time and shut off the car about 20 minutes later went out and all lights had gone off and was back to normal. this has happened at least a dozen times since then. then on 6/29/15 this happened again on the highway during rush hour traffic. however this time the car said throttle disabled and the car shut off completely in the middle of the highway and i had to try and get to the side of the road without incident. after about 10 or 15 minutes the car then started back up and the lights went out and i was able to drive again. then later in the day i returned home and tried to leave in my car and it would not start and had no power what so ever. the key also would not come out of the ignition and i just had that recall dealt with on the key. i could have been seriously injured in this last incident. this needs to be recalled and gm needs to pay for what i am out of pocket because i now had to get a rental car to work. i have read pages upon pages of complaints just like mine, which is ridiculous that this issue has not been fixed. does it take someone getting injured or killed for gm to do something?
I am complaining about an incident that happened to me on saturday, june 14th 2014. i was driving about 70 mph (i have a 2009 chevrolet impala) when my check engine light came on. not long after that did i notice that my engine had shut off and my power steering had went out. come to find out today (6/17/2014), gm had an ignition recall. since the same exact description happened to my vehicle i thought for sure that it was under the recall. i tried to call my local dealer to get it resolved, and shockingly my car did not have a recall under it. i tried to call gm directly and tell them what happened to me, but they said that they could not help me being that my car was not under the recall. my concern is that gm is not taking full responsibility for all of these incidents. its just not right, its not good business on their behalf, and its not ethical. if any of my driving conditions had been different, i could have been involved in a lethal accident. not only does it pose a threat to myself, but if i had other passengers in my vehicle and also other drivers on the road. something has to be done about this and gm needs to take full responsibility for the faults that they produced. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the traction control, emissions and engine lights illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic.the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was unknown.
I was accelerating to merge left into a highway. weather was dry and hot. traction control light came on along with engine light car shows message: "service traction control", "engine power reduced". car takes longer to accelerate. after i turned off the car and turn it on, traction control light disappeared. engine light remains on. *tr
One day before i was to take a vacation from missouri to texas, my check engine light came on. my mechanic told me the code had something to do with a fuel canister, but it shouldn't pose a problem. as i was driving 75 mph on the highway inside the texas state line, after 7 hours of driving, mostly in rain all day, the car started doing a jerking type action & then my traction control light came on, w/a warning msg saying, "service traction control; engine power reduced." going 75 mph i lost all control! no lights, no a/c (which is a separate, loud, clicking issue i could address), no power steering, no power brakes! i had all i could do to just point my car to the side of the road & coast to a stop, in the middle of nowhere w/out a service station in sight! i tried 3x to restart the vehicle to no avail. as i sat there in bewilderment & fright of what just happened, i contemplated what to do. after about 5 minutes, i decided to try & start it 1 more time. this time, it started up. however, the check engine light & the service airbag light (again, another issue i've had with the vehicle since the day i purchased it) were still lit up but the traction control light & the warning messages had gone off. i continued to my destination & the following day (saturday) i took the vehicle to the local gm dealership where they proceeded to do a diagnostic test &, of course, "could not replicate the problem," therefore they could not "find anything wrong." they gladly depleted my vacation expenses of $100 & sent me on my way with a reassurance that "if it happens again while you're here, come back by & we will test it again but we won't charge you for it." how nice of them. :{ gm seems to enjoy doing that. and the nhtsa doesn't seem to want to take the initiative to investigate this prevalent problem w/these cars. if something bad happens, i'll sue the pants off of them. *tr
We own the car listed above and have for over two years. we bought it at a dealership in east tennessee. the car was previously used as a rent a car for enterprise. not even a year after we bought the vehicle we had to replace the transmission. the biggest problem is the fact i have drove this car and all issues stated for a recall we have had a problem with. the most recent is the vehicle shutting off while driving it on highways. it's is saying service engine light mad than will say service traction control, than it will shutoff i been going 70 down an interstate and it shutoff mad about kill us. we had the vehicle checked and the accelerator pedal sensor or something like that is the problem by what technician say. i am just now starting to research the issues we have and found numerous recalls on this vehicle in which we have the problems listed above and more. mainly the airbag steering control arm and vehicle just shutting off. i guess the best way to sum it up is they sold us a lemon perhaps but after looking at the recall list our vehicle meets the requirements for sure. too many problems for a new vehicle. just looking to take care of the problem before the car injures us or someone else on the highways. hope this doesn't take long to get resolved because deaths could occur. thanks for your time hope to speak with someone soon before it's too late. i mean i thought something major was wrong but the automd website really assured what we been thinking. thanks for your time. *tr
After purchasing this "one owner driven by [xxx] car on march 27, 2014 we have fallen in love with the car .supposedly purchased from the dealer were the original owner traded it in.with only approx. 34,800 miles....so much so we purchased another one...a 2014 (not new body style). i'm driving home from work at about 6:45am on a normal sunny morning in a residential neighborhood when all of a sudden i get an alert stating "reduced engine power/service traction control alert...the call lost most power and was shifting strangely...i have done some internet research and this seems to be a common problem with gm cars between 2008- and 2011...we have only made one payment on this vehicle and are currently trying to contact the dealer and waiting on a return call.......the same problem happened again last night and he barely made it to work....sometimes when this alert is not on the engine light is on...sometimes no lights at all...but this is potentially a very dangerous situation especially if traveling at a high rate of speed on expressway or something...if gm is aware of this problem...which they appear to be based on my research, there should be a bulletin or a recall available to fix said problem....i hope we do not have to pursue any further action against gm and that the dealer will make this right...this car is like brand new!! *tr parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Driving under normal conditions the vehicle speed suddenly and without warning loss of vehicle forward motion, dropping to approx 25 mph. "engine power reduced" and traction service light came on. this has happened repeatedly causing a traffic danger problem. returned to dealer a number of tmes. problem continues, suddenly and without warning loss of power on roadway. extraemly dangerous in the heavy traffic conditions of sudden inexplicable loss of vehicle forward motion. have to put on safety flashersand move to far right of roadway area. .*tr
I have noticed a sort of jerking or chugging feeling while traveling at different speeds and different environments, such as highway and city. the problem does seem to be worsening. the service technician at the dealership referred to this as a "fishbite". i did not seem to really notice the problem until repair was made to the manifold and crank case gaskets, due to a severe oil leak. the dealership did look into my concern for the "fishbite", but a code was not found and they were unable to duplicate the problem. is this a precursor to the other complaints involving loss of power while driving? *tr
I was accelerating and turning left at the same time after a stop sign into a 40 mph road. weather was hot and dry. traction control and engine light came on immediately. car shows message: service traction control, engine power reduced. *tr

It's apparently the standard impala issue of the car's dash reading engine power reduced. the car has less than 100,000 miles and my i was driving home from work in rush hour when the dash read engine power reduced. i immediately phoned my husband. he insisted that i get in the right lane and be prepared for the car to die. my husband then mistakenly told me to drive to a specific exit out of the inner city before exiting the highway. next the check stability message came on. he was like ok that's weird but lets get you home. then the car decided to lose power brakes and steering. my hands are literally blistered getting it off the road. i guided it of the highway as he looked up the issue. finding hundreds of these same accounts he told me to hold on a bit and restart the car. it worked and i drove it home. had my husband not insisted i move over and be prepared this could have been a very different issue. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph, there was a sudden loss of engine power as the reduced engine and the service traction stability system warning lights illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure was unable to be diagnosed. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure and current mileage was 8,337.
While driving, service traction control will come on along with the engine light, and they flicker on and off, and cause the car to jerk, the locks to relock, my fuel gauge to go out of place, and sometimes cause the car to turn off. i have taken my car to an actual chevrolet dealership, but they stated that there was nothing wrong with the car because they tried and no problems were diagnosed when they used the scan tool. i don't know what to do. some people say that it may have something to do with my transmission; others say that it is something electrical; while others say that a wire is not connecting or is touching something. one dealer stated that this is happen in all 2007-2012 impala once they hit a certain miles. *tr

Service traction control comes up and reduce engine power. never had any prior issues with my vehicle until now. just got it back from the dealership today and having to take it back tomorrow because the same thing occurred again. i need this issue resolved and am not the only on that has had this issue. i need my vehicle fixed and do not feel that i should have to pay for a manufacturing issue. *tr
I was driving home on the freeway at about 70 mph and the service engine light went on with it saying "reduced engine power" on display. about 10 seconds later i could not accelerate, the car began to start slowing down and i lost ability to maneuver the steering easily as the steering wheel locked up. i was able to pull off on the side of the freeway and i had to turn the car off and wait about 10 minutes for the problem to clear up. *tr
What happened is the vehicle traction control triggered and reduced the cars functionality and speed. it cleared itself, but what concerns me is this problem is prevalent in gm chevrolet vehicles ranging from 2005 to 2011. it is listed many times here in your data base to your organization. our lives and safety are involved here. focusing on charging a fee to do an investigation is deplorable. lives are at stake here. this should not be another american after the fact occurrence or event. what happened to proactive responsibility. these american car makers produce junk cars and the consumer constantly get stiffed with lemons. states lemon laws? nothing but american lemons are rolling off of the production lines. you think, this may be why other countries will not buy our products. there is no reliability in what is produced or manufactured and the customer service is lip service. non - existent with these car dealers and pure sales rhetoric. your site reads: the information you provide will be used to identify potential safety-related defects or determine the adequacy of existing safety recalls. i can't afford the repairs, pay for an investigation as well. i am not pleased with how the ball keeps getting passed or dropped. nhtsa these poorly produced weapons weigh tons. rolling down the poorly maintained highways and streets of this country endangering us all life and limb. my vehicle has the same problem with the traction control that forces my car to brake , pull to the right and slow enough to endanger my well being. i'm truly scared and concerned here and the repairs and code lights aren't reliable. only the repair shops are winning. the problem keeps repeating after thousands are spent to keep the car running. i need this car for work. if it cant get me there then they will come and take the junk back i am trying to maintain. thank you *tr
