Problems with 2009 Chevrolet Impala ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL

On average, the 2009 Chevrolet Impala starts to “feel” problems with the ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL and its various aspects after 87 379 miles.

Recently reported ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL problems on 2009 Chevrolet Impala

While driving, i got to about 60mph and the traction control as well as tire pressure light came on and engine power reduce. i dropped to 40-45mph then system said entering trottle mode and vehicle cut in road. i pulled over, turned ignition off and waited 2 or 3 minutes then i was able to restart vehicle. *tr

The vehicle started to beep and gauges didn't work then work. the gauges went back and forth. the locks locked and unlocked. i started to drive and didn't know how fast i was going because the speedometer didn't work. the engine seemed to work harder to reach highway speed. when i turned the car off, the stabilitrak light came off but check engine light came on. i took the car to the dealer and they cleared the codes for the check engine light but couldn't find what caused the stabilitrak light to come on. they took the electrical harness off and put electrical grease on to keep moisture out. that didn't solve the problem. i still have the stabilitrak light to come on and gauges not to work. now, it happens when i am driving. i feel that someday this will happen and have no control of my vehicle because one time i felt the power steering to go but come back right away. *tr

I cranked my 2009 chevrolet impala leaving a nearby gas station and the message service traction control flashed, then engine power reduced, and the check engine light came on. my car drove sluggish home at a very slow speed. luckily i was only about 5 minutes from home. the next morning no message was displayed and the check engine light went off. i took it to advance auto parts and the code p2127 was displayed twice - throttle pedal position sensor. i see most of these complaints are similar to mine i just happen not to be on the highway. is gm investigating this because this is serious with multiple occurrences? *tr

Traction control light comes on. power is reduced. car runs and drives well. driving on interstate the light comes on and cuts power. i had to coast to a stop on the side of the highway. we waited 5 minutes and the car started. the light went off for a day and then came back on. i hear of people replacing parts and the problem not being fixed. i can't afford to do that. *tr

This incident has happened several times leading up to the check engine light remaining on. as i would be driving down the road at approximately 45 mph. the vehicle would suddenly start to jerk to accelerate and decelerate without me wanting to change speeds. several of these incidents have been while i was driving in traffic. then the message "reduced engine power" and "service traction control" would appear on the dash and the traction control light and check engine light would come on and stay on. this would also cause the car to reduce its speed and cause significant acceleration problems. i replaced the accelerator position sensor as indicated by a code look up and haven't had anymore problems with the car as of october 25, 2014. *tr

I was driving on the highway and suddenly lost speed and the engine light came on and also a couple of messages. "reduce engine power" and "service traction control". i have encounter a lot of impala owners with the same problem, which leads me to believe is a manufactures mistake. *tr

I was driving on the highway during rush hour traffic going approximately 65 per hour and the service traction control came on and then said that engine power was reduced. it also had the engine light come on and stayed on all the way home. i then got home safely that time and shut off the car about 20 minutes later went out and all lights had gone off and was back to normal. this has happened at least a dozen times since then. then on 6/29/15 this happened again on the highway during rush hour traffic. however this time the car said throttle disabled and the car shut off completely in the middle of the highway and i had to try and get to the side of the road without incident. after about 10 or 15 minutes the car then started back up and the lights went out and i was able to drive again. then later in the day i returned home and tried to leave in my car and it would not start and had no power what so ever. the key also would not come out of the ignition and i just had that recall dealt with on the key. i could have been seriously injured in this last incident. this needs to be recalled and gm needs to pay for what i am out of pocket because i now had to get a rental car to work. i have read pages upon pages of complaints just like mine, which is ridiculous that this issue has not been fixed. does it take someone getting injured or killed for gm to do something?

Since we have had this car we are constantly having stability tract control sensors. we have replace them once and it is showing up again. when the stability tract control goes bad then the abs and brake assist light also comes on along with it. i would like to see a recall fix for this problem as i know i am not the only one who has had these problems with their impalas.

While i was driving the service stabilitrak and reduced engine power light came on as well as the check engine light. luckily i was going slow did not lose engine power. i turned off the car the service stabilitrak and reduced engine power lights were not lit but the check engine light stayed on. when i got in the next day the check engine light was not lit. there were no lights on no check engine for about a week and then it started coming back on again. it has started again on a more recurrent basis. i have read threads about this issue and i'm very disappointed that gm has not done anything about this. i have read threads on this issue on your website and apparently it is a problem with the impalas. *tr

Loud clicking noise. i think it's somethings to deal with the air conditioner when the button is on the blue area. actuator? the clicking sound would come and go. when i press the key button on my keychain. pop the trank and sometimes it just goes off through the the day when the car is off and park.

While driving the car displayed "power reduce". then the car slowed down by itself. the next day the car lost power. today, the car is stating the same thing and signal turn themselves on, and once the car is off the doors want lock you have to manual lock the doors. the car have been jerking while driving and making a funny noise. *tr

I was driving my 2009 chevy impala traveling at about 45-50 mph when the "reduce engine power" message came up followed by "check traction control". the car then became sluggish and slowed down to about 15-20 mph. it then shut off without warning and it seems as though the power steering went out. i had my daughter in the car with me and thank god traffic was light because with that happening it was an accident waiting to happen. i am concerned because it seems like this has been a common problem with this car for a few years and there has not been a recall yet. is gm waiting for someone to die. no one seems to be able to pinpoint what the problem is and i don't think it's fair that someone has to pay money to fix what may be a problem. something needs to be done because this is not safe at all. i see a lot of impalas in my town and it's scary to think that at any time this can happen to any one of those cars, mine included, and seriously hurt or kill someone. gm needs to step up and do the responsible thing for the people who invested their money in the gm brand.

The traction control, stability track and abs lights all came on. the engine power reduced light came on and engine power was lower. i had the left speed sensor replaced and the accelerator sensor replace on august 8th after the dealership had fixed this problem in april and again in june. i was told they changed sensors then also, but i am not sure of which ones at that time. i am now having the same problem for the forth time. replacing the sensors every few months is getting expensive. also not very safe. i contacted gm and the woman told me to take it back to the dealership to be fixed again. i have fixed the same issue three times already. they were of no help at all. *tr

The first time was about three months ago in march 2014 but the engine never died then. it just had less power and was better the next time i started the car. don't know what the mileage was then, maybe about 52k. it happened a couple times that same week and i was going about 40mph. i asked about it in april when the car was inspected and was told they didn't see any problems but that it might be a sensor going out. then, on july 4th in the mountains in missouri was the next time, going about 70 mph downhill and this is when it died with like 3-5 second warning. first the light comes on that says service traction control then it says engine power reduced and dies. nothing works except the brakes. this happened again on 7/12, going about 70 mph again, died again. was in the middle lane on freeway and nearly got hit as my car barely moved and had hard time getting to the side of the road. the car did not die, but had very little power, steering was very hard and i felt like i was in extreme danger both of these times. this needs to be recalled!!! so many other reports of same problem not just in the 2009 but later years, where the manufacture should already know this is an issue, but keeps making the car the same way. this is a total outrage!!! i cannot get on the freeway feeling any security and don't have money to keep making costly repairs on this vehicle. many other problems with this car, but not safety issues at this point. *tr

Was driving car and traction control light came on and then check engine light. lost power and brakes. car was able to stop but very hard. glad nobody was in front of me or i would have it them. this is very dangerous and i think there should be a recall on the throttle body and sensors. i did have it fixed but had to take it to several dealers to figure out if it was the accelerator pedal or the throttle body.it was the whole throttle body unit. *tr

In february 2014,the traction control and abs warning light began coming on, in my 2009 impala, when making a left turn. the lights began to come on more frequently and would stay on for longer times. i took the car to the dealer and they replaced the left hub. this solved the problem for about a month and then the traction control and the abs warning lights began appearing again. each time the lights would stay on for a longer time. the car is now in the shop for the second time for this problem. *tr

What happened is the vehicle traction control triggered and reduced the cars functionality and speed. it cleared itself, but what concerns me is this problem is prevalent in gm chevrolet vehicles ranging from 2005 to 2011. it is listed many times here in your data base to your organization. our lives and safety are involved here. focusing on charging a fee to do an investigation is deplorable. lives are at stake here. this should not be another american after the fact occurrence or event. what happened to proactive responsibility. these american car makers produce junk cars and the consumer constantly get stiffed with lemons. states lemon laws? nothing but american lemons are rolling off of the production lines. you think, this may be why other countries will not buy our products. there is no reliability in what is produced or manufactured and the customer service is lip service. non - existent with these car dealers and pure sales rhetoric. your site reads: the information you provide will be used to identify potential safety-related defects or determine the adequacy of existing safety recalls. i can't afford the repairs, pay for an investigation as well. i am not pleased with how the ball keeps getting passed or dropped. nhtsa these poorly produced weapons weigh tons. rolling down the poorly maintained highways and streets of this country endangering us all life and limb. my vehicle has the same problem with the traction control that forces my car to brake , pull to the right and slow enough to endanger my well being. i'm truly scared and concerned here and the repairs and code lights aren't reliable. only the repair shops are winning. the problem keeps repeating after thousands are spent to keep the car running. i need this car for work. if it cant get me there then they will come and take the junk back i am trying to maintain. thank you *tr

The problem started in january of 2014. as i write this i want to say that i have read all the blogs on my complaints and see that i am not alone which forces me to ask gm why is it that we all see the elephant in the room and you people are ignoring it. suffice to say this problem is a safety issue would be the understatement of the century. when will gm step up to the plate and make these issues a priority so there customers don't have to waste time writing complaints like this one. it's really very simple my engine light is on along with the stabilitrak light as well as the car losing all power. now if gm feels this is not a good enough reason to create a recall i fail to see what is. people just like me have been complaining about this for years and gm does nothing. along with gm being at fault the dealerships are [xxx] there customers while they go thru a laundry list of items they think might be the problem for these codes. i for one cannot afford the dealership prices nor will i pay these so called experts good money after bad to try and fix problems that they really have no idea as to what's causing them. i originally bought this chevy b/c i wanted an american car for a change, man was i wrong. as soon as i fix this heap i will sell it before anymore lights go on and go right back to honda where at least i know they stand by there cars and it runs way into the six figures before any real problems occur. i'm one of the little guys that bailed out gm and by the way were still paying taxes for that bailout. how about it gm, don't you care about us at all? *tr parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Traveling on highway at 70 mph. service traction, reduced engine power, service engine lights came on, car was shaking, everything was shutting down. fortunately it was not rush hour and i was able to pull off road. i was on a toll road that aaa can not respond. i waited about 20 minutes and started the car and everything was fine. took car to our mechanic, there was a service bulletin, to replace throttle body assembly. since then, 2 letters from gm about covering cost of throttle sensor, but not assembly. gm is not taking care of the real problem, the whole assembly needs to be replaced, not just the sensor! i've kept the part and invoice and letters from gm, they should just recall before it turns into a class action lawsuit!

Stability/traction control system activates for no reason. this causes a spontaneous major reduction in engine power. this happened while passing a semi-tractor trailer on an interstate. fortunately, i was able to get to the side of the road and stop. shutting the engine off for several minutes apparently allowed the system to reset. this has happened about a dozen times since. had i been passing on a 2-lane road, it very likely could have caused a head-on collision. *tr

While my wife was driving (with my three kids as passengers) at highway speeds the message was displayed in the dashboard "reduced engine power" and "service traction control" messages were displayed. the vehicle immediately last power and the speed was reduced to less than 30 mph, while on the highway. she was able to navigate to the shoulder and call me for assistance. by the time i got there and started the engine it was running normally except for the "service engine soon" light was lit. i took it to the nearest chevrolet dealership who immediately stated it was a faulty electronic throttle control and would cost $580 to replace. i searched on-line and found dozens of complaints exactly like this one for 2008-2012 model impalas'. there is not a recall on this problem so the customers are getting charged to fix this faulty chevrolet device. someone is going to get killed if they do not recall this device. *tr

I was driving down hwy 50 on a clear dry day and the engine lite comes on with the traction control warning, saying engine power reduced. then the power shut off including the steering causing me to pull the car off into the dirt off the freeway. due to this my front bumper got cracked. this problem is now a re-occurring problem. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle stalled with the illumination of the engine and traction warning lights. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 92,000.

I have had numerous problems with my 2009 impala. from the very beginning with only 100+ miles on it and the problems continue today. the dash will say reduced engine power and as i was going down the road at 55 miles an hour my car just shut off. i was able to get it to the side of the road and just sat there wondering what was going on. it wouldn't do anything, it was just completely off. i was about to call for aaa and tried one more time and it started. this happened again in november of 2013 as well and i was going 45 on a country rd. again i was able to pull to the side and sat there and waited again. when this happens the car will do nothing. i have problems with my traction control, making a strange grinding type noise and bogs the car down from moving when i am trying to accelerate from a stop or trying to turn either left or right. i have had problems with my air bag lights coming on and telling me to service my air bags. it comes on and goes off and comes on and goes off. the dash light will come on and tell me to shut engine off now for low oil pressure, this has happened for 4 years, the car is 5 years old. this car was never a good car from the very day it came off the lot. *tr

After 1 month of having my throttle body reset by the dealer, the car acts up again. yes again in the rain. well, i have an idea why it may be acting up. the freaking computer is located were the air intake is. so when the car starts, you guessed it gm it sucks in moisture aka rain, then the rain goes across the computer and all [xxx] breaks loose. reduced engine power, traction control and it is ridiculous! why in the [xxx] do you put a computer were it is in direct line with moisture. my 2002 trailblazer has the computer under the passengers seat. guess what no freaking problems even after 257000. this is a safety complaint! the car is begging to be another ford pinto. please recall the car, and move the computer. this should solve your problems, and it may give people a little less bad taste in their mouth. i know i have renamed my impala to the ford impala. not to insult ford motor company but mine actually stands for fix or repair daily impala. i used to love my impala and i used to be a loyal to gm, but if this does not get recalled i see it being my last gm car i buy ever! bring back the pride in owning a gm, before the gm name will stand for garbage motors. signed, once a loyal gm owner [xxx] *js parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

2009 chevy impala 3.5l ffv - my "passenger airbag" light has been coming on intermittently since early spring 2013. in august 2013, my "brake" light suddenly came on while driving. there didn't appear to be any handling issues. both the regular brakes & parking brake worked normally the brake fluid level was full. for a few months the "brake" light would come on sporadically & alarm while driving, all without any changes in driving or braking ability. around september 2013, the "traction control" & "check engine" lights came on. again, there did not seem to be any issue with handling. these lights also came on & off randomly & they were seldom all on simultaneously. occasionally, the warning panel also says, "engine power reduced" & acceleration & power are diminished. there's also been a "low pressure left rear tire." the left front tire was found to be low, but the rear tire was ok. tonight, the "check engine" & "traction control" lights came on & the display said "engine power reduced." suddenly, it said, "starting disabled service throttle" & my car essentially lost all power. the steering also locked up. it was very difficult to pull off of the road. i restarted the car after about 1 minute, & the "traction control" light was no longer on, but the "check engine" light was. i was able to drive again, without difficulty. *tr

I was driving down the highway when traction control and check engine lights came on. car went into reduced power mode and finally died while still moving. lost power steering. then my car shut down, had a very difficult time getting it off the road. there seems to be many complaints about this. with this happening on a very busy highway, myself or my daughter could have been killed by oncoming traffic, due to car shutting down. cost of tow and service 350.00 i also have had the car put in for the seatbelt and airbag lights going off, since being in the chevrolet dealer, the lights never go off. *tr

Three times now this has happened. the first time i was driving down a main street at about 35 miles per hour and all of a sudden my service traction control light came on and the wording was displayed, as well as my check engine light came on and the wording "engine power reduced" was displayed. about a month later, i was leaving a parking lot when the same thing happened and then again four days later i was merging onto a highway and the same thing happened. when i try to accelerate, it sounds like something is going to fall out of the bottom of my car. after reading the other complaints, i don't understand why this isn't being taken care of by the company and left up to the car owner to deal with. it is very unsafe and i can't afford to get a different car nor pay for expensive repairs that are beyond my control or fault. *tr

This the second time this has happened. wife was driving down the freeway when traction control and check engine lights came on. car went into reduced power mode and finally died while still moving. lost power steering and finally brought car to a stop on left inside of expressway. after a short time she was able to restart the car and limp home. note that the cruise control was on, but i do not know if it was set. had the codes read that indicated a throttle position sensor caused the fault. there are two sensors which have to agree and if they don't car will go into reduced power mode. when she got home i found only the check engine light on. i have in the past moved the wires on the brake fluid sensor to get the check engine light to go off. not knowing exactly how all of these different systems are tied together, i tend to think that the cars computer is the problem which sets off all the different warning lights on the dash. i went to the chevy dealership and the service advisor asked if this was a recall issue. i thought this was some what strange. after reading complaints on the net i can see why she might have thought it was a recall issue. the throttle body part is $300 dollars plus labor rate of $105/hr. as of now i cannot find any recalls for this issue. nhtsa needs to look at this problem because the loss of steering with all systems due to motor stalling while in motion is a hazard to everyone. *tr

I drive a 2009 chevrolet impala. on 8-6-13 driving the far lane on the highway i experienced a series of warning messages on the dashboard. the messages were, "service traction control, engine power reduced and service engine." as the speed of the car began to reduce, i went to merge into the slow lane to prepare to take any necessary precautions. before i could switch one lane a message popped up saying, "steering column has been locked." at that point the steering wheel became very tight almost enabling me to steer into the right lane. at the same time, the vehicles mileage has dropped down to practically nothing. lets remember i'm on the highway during 5:00pm rush hour. by the time the oncoming traffic reached me, i was able to get off onto the should of the highway. i then get a warning message saying, "engine has been disabled." at that point i shut the car off. i've lost a family member to car failure on the high way. at this point i sit for about a minute or two and then start the car back up. after turning over a couple of times, the car starts and operates at an exceptional speed. imagine had the cars behind not been paying attention. maybe they were texting, fatigued, looking behind them or anything to have made them not notice the disabled vehicle ahead. this could've been a massive fatal crash. my [xxx] year old child would not have stood a chance. after researching on the internet that this is a known issue and gm has done nothing to justify the poorly assembled parts, i am very upset at the lack of concern for their buyers safety. as a single parent, i had no choice but to have the car serviced as soon as possible to eliminate any safety hazards to my child. coming out of $300+ for something gm should've recalled when notified is unacceptable. i will be contacting all sources possible to inquire on getting a recall and hopefully saving someone's life. *tr parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u

After getting new brakes put on my car, the low tire pressure light would come on for different tires. it was random and after checking the tire pressure they were all fine. the light is on all the time and when i check my tire pressure on the dash panel they all four read 0 tire pressure. i have to check them manually which sounds petty but i paid for this option i should be able to use it. my remote car starter doesn't work because this error message is on. i've had it reset and it comes right back on. i wad told the wheel sensors were broke when getting the brakes fixed and that they cost around $100 each. there has to be some way to make these so they don't get broken while getting normal maintenance done so i now have a huge additional cost that far exceeds the cost of getting the brakes. *tr

I was driving and the message loosing engine power and stability control system started flashing. the car started slowing down and i couldn't steer. i had someone look at it and they told me what was wrong. i also looked online and saw the many complaints and gm is aware. i parked the car until i am able to have it serviced. the issue seems to be a accelerator sensor switch malfunction. if i was going at a faster speed or was on the highway this could have cause an accident. i called gm and they stated they see no reported issues. *tr

When i drive all of a sudden the check engine light comes on with a reduced engine power warning and a message to check stabiltrack. after three or four shutting engine off and restarting the car the light goes off from anywhere to 3 or 4 days to maybe a month or so. it is intermittent. the dealer says it has never heard of that happening and i can't believe that. my car hasn't stalled as of yet but i am concerned of the safety of my passengers and myself.

While driving my 2009 chevrolet impala in a 55 mph zone, a series of warnings appeared on the dash: engine power reduced, service stabilitrak, check engine. immediately the car would not accelerate, and speed decreased to about 10 mph. *tr

Driving 65 on freeway car slows down to 40 check engine light says service traction control. *tr

Alarm came on that read service traction control - engine power reduced. i was trying to pass a semi-trailer with another car directly behind me. the engine suddenly went dead and another alarm read starting disabled. there was nothing i could do. if the car behind me had not noticed my car rolling to a stop i would have been rear ended and sent into the truck. this is a serious life-threatening situation and it needs to be addressed immediately. *tr

I noticed the service stabilititrak light came on several times but after shutting off the car it does not come back on until another day on july 1, 2013 i took my car to the dealer ship in temple tx because of my extended warranty, told them that gas gauge was saying i was out of gas (even after i filled it) and the service stabilititrak came and the dampener solenoid could be bad. they fixed the gas gauge but told me they could not find a code for the stabilizer. so 2 days later when it came on, i took it to them to show the dash board to them that clearly said service stabilititrak did not shut off car so they could run the code because the said they could not find it last time, no call all day long when i got of work i called to find out something they said it was not checked when i asked if they ran the code they said no. so today they called me early and said they could not find anything. if i can find information about the problem, tell them , show them and they still can't fix the problem.they want me to pay an additional deductible for the same problem i brought to them in the first place. my husband is ase certified and the only reason we brought in is because of warranty but what good is warranty if you can't get it fixed. my husband always believed in chevy's but now they are not made like they used to be!!!!!!!!! *tr

My chevrolet impala reduces the power of the engine down to 20 mph or less and indicates check traction control and reduced engine power. i was almost rear ended because of this and had to pull off the freeway to avoid further potential collisions. *tr

While accelerating after a stop at a red light the throttle lost responsiveness. the check engine light came on and three messages appeared on the dash board display. 1. 'service stabilitrack' 2. 'traction control malfunction' followed by 3. 'reduced engine power'. vehicle would not accelerate beyond 40mph. i was on a down ramp heading toward a highway with no breakdown lane available. very dangerous situation. next morning i brought the vehicle into a local chevrolet dealer and code p2138 revealed "accelerator pedal/sensor failure." repair cost $265. many other chevrolet owners complain of this same issue and the dangerous situation the acceleration loss causes. please see this edmunds.com blog with dozens of others complaining of this same issue. While driving on the highway at approximately 70 mph the car began to lose acceleration and dropped all the way down to 40 mph. the check engine light, service traction control, service stabilitrak, and reduced engine power message displayed as well. the car began shaking and would not accelerate. i had to pull off to the side of the highway and turn the car off to try and get the issue to subside. once back on the road, not more than 3 miles later the issue surfaced again. i ended up having to get off the highway and drive (very slowly) back to my house. not sure if it will be safe to drive back to the dealership to be addressed. i have replaced the wheel hubs and throttle pedal sensor in the past few years in an attempt to correct. this was an intermittent issue until recently and even after having it fixed by a certified chevrolet dealership, the issue occurred again. this most recent incident could have ended in serious injury had i not been lucky enough to not have any cars immediately around me. with the amount of consistent complaints about this particular issue with this particular model of car i hope it can be addressed. *tr

I have a 2009 chevy impala lt & was driving aproximately 50mph down the road when all of a sudden the "service traction control message came on, the check engine light came on & engine power will be reduced message came on". the cars speed dropped down to about 40mph & would hardly go. i didn't know what was going on. it really scared me because i thought my car was going to cut off. i did get to work safely but i am terrified to drive this car. i searched message boards on the internet & came across 297 messages from other people who own gm vehicles that this has happened to. a couple of people said their cars actually cut off on them while going down the highway at a high rate of speed. one was involved in an accident. the problem from what i have read has something to do with the accelerator pedal position sensor or throttle body. from what i have read gm knows about this problem but has not done a recall on this. a couple of people posted that their local chevy dealership covered the repair even though their cars were no longer under warranty. i called my local chevy dealership and they told me that they couldn't do anything about it. they said that i would have to pay for repairs myself. to me, this is unacceptable. i could have a wreck & get killed or kill someone else. i don't understand why a company would clearly know about a problem with their vehicles and do nothing about it. i think that gm should cover the repairs to my vehicle and to any others that are having this problem. *tr

As i was driving on the interstate all of a sudden i feel the vehicle slow down and the message center displays "traction control off" "engine power reduced". i was traveling about 65mph at the time however to maintain that speed after this happened i had to press the gas pedal further. the stabilitrak light stayed on for a days also. *tr

As i was driving to golf on monday september 24th, on interstate i-80 heading west, my 2009 chevy impala onboard computer stated the following, service traction control, reduced power, starter disabled and the check engine light all at roughly the same time. my car completely died and i had no power steering. luckily i was able to coast out of harms way and get to the side of the road. i checked some wires under the hood and didn't find anything loose. when i attempted to start the car back-up, the onboard computer flashed, starter disabled. i sat with the car for about 15 minutes and tried once more. this time it started and ran normal, but the check engine like was on(still is). how scary is this really? enough to make me hate driving this car anywhere. not to mention i'm a single dad of 4, who needs to get to work, school and many other things. *tr

Purchased vehicle on 9/6/2012 used with 27,479 miles. on 9/19/2012 with 27,960 miles, i was accelerating on an onramp getting on a highway and two messages appeared on my dash: "reduced engine power" and "service traction control as well as the check engine light. experience rough and hesitant shifting between gears and could not go faster than 35mph. was able to safely navigate home on side roads. i took it to the dealer i purchased it from for service and was told it was reading code p2138 and the throttle pedal assembly needed to be replaced. the service was covered under the dealer's warranty and i was set to go. flash forward to 10/24/2012 with 29,355 miles, i was driving on a side road and the same messages came up. i called on star and they performed a diagnostic which resulted in the computer reading codes p2138 and c0242. experienced out of control wheel spinning and sensitive braking. took it to a dealer in the area i was currently in traveling for business and they could not diagnose with any issue. all codes and lights were not engaged. i still did not feel safe driving my vehicle due to problem with accelerator and had towed to the purchasing dealer near my home. they also could not diagnose with any issue as they could not duplicate the error. this is a serious safety concern and a problem (especially on the highway) with a popular model. i have also filed a complaint with gm on this issue and am hoping to have it resolved immediately. *tr

I was turning left into a driveway going no more than 7 miles an hour, because i was following a car, when i heard a large grind then pop. i parked my car and knew immediately the transmission failed by the fluid trail and part left behind. i took it to a dealer and luckily it was covered under the power train warranty. a week after receiving my vehicle back the alignment was off, driver-side headlight socket caught fire, i have labored start up, have stalled on the freeway! and have stabilitrak, airbag, and reduced engine power error codes that randomly appear. *tr

Vehicle gives a service throttle starting disabled message and promptly shuts off the engine. if you wait 5 minutes the car will restart and perform as usual.....until the next time. shutting off the engine at interstate speeds is incredibly dangerous and is going to result in someone being killed. based upon internet searches this appears to be a known issue, but gm will not proactively fix the problem. *tr

While driving the car through a parking lot at roughly 10-15 mph the check engine light came on. as it was displaying the message for what needed to be checked the service traction control, service stabilitrak, and engine power reduced messages came on. i have been online and check forum after forum about it and have found hundreds of posts about the same issue in the same vehicles. wondering eugene gm will be forced to issue a recall and publicly address this issue. *tr

I have a 2009 chevrolet impala that i purchased in 2010. several months later, the car began to read check engine, service traction control, reduced engine power, then stalls and jerks while i'm driving. it happens intermittently. i took it to autozone to have them check the computer code. they said it was the accelerator pedal position sensor. the car only has about 50,000 miles on it. i am planning o taking it to the dealership because it is happening more often and i am afraid that i will have an accident as a result of this problem. *tr

I was driving on the interstate when i rec'd the following messages: service traction control and reduced engine power. the engine light and the traction control lights also came on. i was able to go approx 50-55 mph. i was very lucky that i was near an exit. as i was exiting, a message came on telling me that the power was being turned off or stopped. i can't remember the exact words. i then had no ability to accelerate and my only option was to pull off the side of the road. even though i was able to pull off the side, it was not in a safe place and traffic was going by at the speed of 55-60 mph and i was barely over the white line. i called a tow truck, and had it towed to my mechanic. this happened at 4:15 on a friday afternoon. my mechanic didn't look at it until monday and could not find anything wrong with it. he drove it all over and he checked everything he could think of. i trust this mechanic. he did say that he was afraid he would have to send me to the dealer to have it looked at. i came home, googled the problems and ended up at edmunds.com in a forum for chevy owners with this issue. while no one was hurt this time, that is just a blessing. how many people will need to be hurt, maimed or even killed before they issue a recall and do something about a problem that is very obvious. how much money and time will i spend taking this to a dealer who doesn't know about the problem and won't diagnose it correctly the first time? america wants americans to buy american made products. i owned a foreign vehicle for 9 years and it never left me stranded the way this chevrolet impala did after owning it for 7 months! i think it is past time something was done. for those of us who have the problem now and for those who are out there just waiting for this to happen to them. safety should come first! *tr

Vehicle shutoff and i lost steering and braking causing vehicle to crash and airbags did not deploy. the vehicle was in motion.
