On a 2006 chevy impala, the air bag indicator light on dashboard came on and remained on. car was taken to chevrolet dealer who said it would be quite expensive to repair, so letting it go. research on the internet reveals this problem. also saw a technical service bulletin related to codes relating to air bag light remaining on. danger here is that this should be fixed by chevrolet with a recall, but no recall as of yet. this defect should be fixed by chevrolet. someone is going to die because of this issue not being recalled by chevrolet. *tr
My 2006 chevrolet impala has nothing but issues. window scratch when going up and down, tire pressure monitor needs replaced, remote start has no distance, water pump leakage, transmission line leaking, rotors, tires and alignment wear out prematurely. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet impala. the vehicle was taken to the dealer on several occasions for failures with the heater blowing cool air, the gear shift changing incorrectly, and the tire monitor indicator constantly illuminating. on january 30, 2008, the contact drove approximately 25 miles. she then pulled into the driveway and noticed smoke underneath the hood, followed by flames. she quickly extinguished the fire and the vehicle was towed to the dealer. it was diagnosed that the power steering hose failed and caused the fluid to leak. the vehicle will be repaired. the current and failure mileages were 51,000.
Moaning noise when turning at low speeds, and loud shrieking noise when accelerating. thought it was power steering pump &/or alternator. i look under hood and ground ps fluid on ground, ps fluid was leaking out of the bellows boot on the rack and pinion. took to dealer and was told the spool seal and the input seal were leaking in the rack and pinion. luckily i was able to get the rack replaced under warranty. but 1 month later, the new rack developed a leak from the same input seal that was bad on the oe rack. dealer replaced it again under warranty. *tr
Ac duct noise while driving & when parked. constant tapping of component in dash area sometimes alleviated by adjusting d/side temp wheel. same complaint from many impala owners i know. happens with key on or off. slowly getting worse. 2006 chev. impala. *tr

2006 chevy impala ss has had several mechanical issues most recently flat tires. the first incident was a front right tire loosing air slowly. today the front left tire went flat suddenly and on the interstate. the damaged section of tire was on the inside and appeared to have been punctured by another piece of the suspension. the dealer ship insists that i need to pay for repairs everytime. the car is an unbelievable inconvenience. *jb
The 2006 chevrolet impala had a technical bulletin on a power steering hose i was never notifed off. the hose exploded, and the car could not move. it was towed to the 1st dealership. they said it was fixed, but it would not steer out of the bay. they flushed the power steering unit, and with days it would not steer properly. i took it to another dealership, which after two visits, determined it needed a new power steering pump. then the accelerator stuck to the floor while turning. the car was taken to the dealership and a new accelrator was installed. the vehicle was returned to me again and athe steering went out, this time, i nearly hit a telephone pole while turning. the dealership took the car in and replaced the rack and pinion. the car again did not steer properly, and i nearly hit a phone pole on the way home. at one point the second dealership put over 200 miles on the vehicle. gm said the carwas. in operating order . t had less than 17,000 miles on it, and demanded i pick up the vehi or be charged storage fees. i have nearly wrecked the car due to mechanical defects on three seperate occasions. *ak
