2005 chevy impala with a sticking speedometer. stays at 85 when parked, and is very erratic. have read many, many others with same problem and dealerships unwilling to fix this safety issue without fully charging for repair. cannot afford car payment and over expense for shop repair that should be covered by dealership/manufacturer defect. *tr

My 2005 impala speedometer and temperature gauge are working when they want to. i set the cruise controll at 70 mph and car seems to do fine. i dont use the cruise controll and try to hold the car at 70 mph and got a ticket for doing 82 in a 65. after getting the ticket on 12 march the speedometer after either 20 minutes of sitting or driving does not read right says below zero, then i turn car off and on to try and reset the guages work on and off.

Speedometer stops working or shows a lower speed than actual speed. this occurs at least once a week, sometimes more often. so far has not caused an crash, yet. *cn

The speedometer is at 35 mph when the car is at a standstill. the indicated speed is incorrect when the car is moving, showing a faster speed than the car is moving. *tr

I have a 2005 chevy impala, currently with 22,320 miles. at my oil change and tire rotation, (~20,500) i was informed by repair place that they would not perform the tire rotation as i would be needing to replace the tires soon. i asked why they were wearing so fast- i was told, they noticed it on many impalas- premature tire wear between 18,000-25,000 miles. ~ 15 months ago, with only about 13,000 miles, when i had an oil change done i was informed me the engine was leaking oil from the rear of the engine, i should take it to the dealer for repair. the dealer had to replace (under warranty) several seals/gaskets- oil pan, drain plug, oil filter, plus replace the drain plug. the car is sometimes hard to start and have to hold the key in the start position, and/or lightly press the gas pedal to start it. about two weeks ago, i grinded the starter. sometimes the car will start roughly and immediately stall, or will stall the first few seconds as i am backing out the drive way. dealer about this they told me i was using cheap gas and to use a better brand, but i always use "brand" gas, i even use fuel injector cleaner dealer later told me i needed to have the fuel injection "flushed" with their system for $199, plus tax and charges, hearing it was not good for the vehicle, i declined. i have also noticed a "clunking/bumping/banging" noise when turning, especially hard turns. my brakes need to be replaced, the front brakes are starting to make a thump when braking, and yesterday when braking hard, i heard a squeal noise, (rear?). fuel gauge sometimes rapidly fluctuates, when driving, and at times when accelerating,(though not concurrent) i hear a "swoosh/gargling" sound. i was accelerating too hard. the fuel gauge will swing as much as a 1/4 tank when driving before recovering to the correct position. gauge shows low fuel level, low fuel light comes on, i only needed 10-12 gals to fill it (~16 gals). *tr

Speedometer quit working at about 60000 miles. it is part of an "instrument cluster" that costs $600. sounds like it is a popular problem!!! *tr

Vehicles speedometer just quits working, it either reads really high or reads zero. you can never tell if your getting an accurate reading or not. have not corrected the problem yet i feel chevrolet should have a recall due to the high expense. *tr

Tl*- the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet impala ls. on 03/30/07 while driving 55 mph on a clear, dry day the front passenger's side tire blew out. they were able to pull to side of the road, and raised the vehicle to change the tire. they were able to put the spare tire on the vehicle, and were in the process of putting on the lugs nuts when the vehicle dropped from the jack, and snapped the jack on both ends. when the vehicle fell, the tire well hit the driver on the head and shoulder causing injury. the spare tire came off and knocked the driver forward. the front passenger's side rotor fell onto the pavement. she had to call 911 for police assistance. the state trooper raised the vehicle with his jack and was able to change the tire for the contact. the trooper looked at the jack, and believed it to be defective. the contact has the trooper's information available if the nhtsa investigators need to contact him. the contact filed a complaint with gm, and she was given case# 71-506141092. the current mileage was 52,507 miles.*ak

Speed sensor went bad at 45,000 miles on a 2005 impala. repaired the problem and found it caused the instrument control panel to be in-operable and need to replace that. wipers also park in upright position. no defect codes found. *tr
