I was merging and exiting off the expressway on my way to work and went to use my turn signal and it quit working. upon arriving at work i tried it again and nothing...i then tried my other turn signal and hazard light also and they didn't work either. i do alot of expressway driving to different cities due to my job of which i have to change lanes and merge and turn quite frequently so this is a major concern with my turn signals and flasher not working. *tr

The ignition on my chevy impala will not turn. it is locked and will not turn. i have read of other sights that other impala are having the same issue. the dealer is not helpful and tom gill chevrolet in florence, ky said there were no recalls on my car. however, i saw one on the web. no wonder chevy is having issues with the recall the reps are not helpful and do not want to find a solution. the dealer says there was never a recall affecting my car. *tr

Ignition: driving on highway, his small pot hole and ignition shut off causing loss of steering, gas etc. was able to maneuver to side of road and shut car off and restarted. dash: temperature gauge doesn't work at all making it difficult to tell whether car is overheating or not. *tr

I was forced to make repairs to ignition system that chevrolet refused to cover. my cost to dealer $969.61 i was told by gm to wait for a recall announcement and seek reimbursement at that time. on 8/12 gm issued a recall on my vehicle for these affected parts. i have heard nothing back from gm concerning my claim for reimbursement. is gm obligated to reimburse me for this repair that could have been avoided had the issued a prompt recall on my vehicle? *tr

Security system comes on and the vehicle will not start ........... *tr

I recently purchased a 2005 impala in april of 2014. there was no check light engine on for about a week, but the light did come on and also with the airbags light. when braking both lights will disappear. at times of accelerating, the lights will appear. also, i have a faulty ignition switch that is affecting my headlights, radio, interior lights, and my key will barely turn. *tr

The speedometer malfunctions. this incident is the third i've experienced in the last year. i researched this and found the problem to be widespread for 2000-2005 chevrolet impalas. the speedometer registers 95-110 mph all of the time from a complete stop to a slow roll. this is very dangerous because a faulty speedometer reading can and will lead to accidents. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet impala. the contact noticed that the anti-theft security system warning light was illuminated and it became difficult to move the gear shifter from park. it took the contact between 10-15 minutes to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where they repaired the ignition switch. the manufacturer was notified and stated that the vehicle was not included in a recall. the failure mileage was 124,628. updated 8/28/14*cn updated 09/8/2014 *js

Ignition key sticks. *tr

The problem started with the security light coming on. then the temp gauge stopped working. sporadically would not start. i waited 15 minutes with key in the on position, when security light went off, turn off and back on. most times this would work. headlights would flicker on and off. driver side window stopped working. one day my dashboard, and door controls just went hay wire. car will not turn over at all now. key easily slides out of the on position. have already had car looked at several times with no success. when researching this issue online, it seems that many other people are having this very similar issue. at this point it is a safety concern for me and my family. *js

I had to have the ignition replaced on my car this year! now the air bag light is on and stays on n won't go off! not sure if it's on recall or not. *tr

I've heard a lot about the recalls regarding several chevy vehicles in regards to the ignition and i was wondering why impalas are not on the list. you can look at numerous web forms with people having trouble starting their impala's like my self. you can also read that there is really no explanation or fix to the problem. the problem in general is a good majority of the time older chevy impala's have a hard time starting or just won't start for a good 15 minutes. from the many impala owners i talk to a lot of them are wondering if this was the start of the issue with the recalled chevy vehicles. i have yet to experience any other described issue related to the recall but again i am worried if this is a sign of the issues or slightly related. *tr

Found out my horn stopped working while driving. nearly got in several accidents because i couldn't sound my horn as warning. found out from shinee la fleur at the dealership that chevy put in a update to cover the horn from water damage. this should have been a recall not an update. the horn shorted out because water got to the electric part of the horn. this problem could have shorted out my entire electrical system but luckily it only shorted out the horn. the dealer wants to charge me $425 for there mistake. i would like this car to be on a recall for possible damage by water because the shield they put on now protects it. why wasn't this shield sold with the car from the beginning. the tech stated that this problem does exist on all these cars but chevy does nothing about it. *js

I was driving at approximately 40 mph on a straight roadway with brights on when the headlights went out. this occurred in the early morning while it was still dark out. the parking lights remained on. pulling the headlight switch on the left side of dash to the "manual on" position did not help. i turned on the fog lights and returned home using the fog lights only. upon arriving home, i was able to get the headlights to work again by switching to high beam and back. this has been an intermittent problem for this vehicle in the past month. the multifunction switch felt like it was fully engaged and gave an audible click when pulled. i have ordered a replacement multifunction switch to repair this. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start on numerous occasions. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnostic testing. the technician replaced the ignition switch. the contact received a notification for recall nhtsa campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system). however, the manufacturer stated the failure was not related to the recall. the approximate failure mileage was 89,000. updated 11/20/14*lj updated 08/4/2015 *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that the key failed to start the vehicle properly. the contact mentioned that the key was tampered with in order to start the vehicle. the contact received a recall notification for nhtsa campaign number: 14v400000 (electrical system) and felt that the remedy would fail to repair the vehicle. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vin and failure mileage were unavailable. updated 12/16/14*lj updated 01/15/15*jb

I noticed a strange smell like melting plastic coming from my passenger side dashboard under the glove compartment. took it straight to the dealer. they discovered my back window defrost shorted out the fuse box on the passenger side. completely melted it and ruined the box. if i had waited any longer it probably would have started a fire. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that when attempting to start the vehicle, it failed to start. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the key was replaced with a new cover. however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

Seems a lot of 2000-2005 impalas are experiencing the same issues as i am with the dash instrument panel and possible issues with the passlock system. sometimes i have to wait 10-15 minutes to crank my car when it wont start or do the lock and unlock trick to reset the passlock system. ironically enough haven't had issues with the ignition switch which now has an active recall. instrument panel speedometer stuck on 120 mph while in stop position. ..almost got a ticket over memorial day weekend because i was speeding. ..showed the officer my speedometer that was sitting on 90 mph at the time and he gave me a warning and told me to get that fixed. *tr

Vehicle shut off while driving , this has occurred twice, able to direct vehicle to side of the road safely. at time had multiple keys and items hanging from keychain. now drive with just key alone in ignition has not occurred since. *tr

When starting the vehicle, the engine intermittently starts, runs rough/sub idle then stalls. when the engine starts it seems to run normally, but on at least three occasions, while driving the vehicle the engine would stall and i would loose power steering and brakes. i took the vehicle to jeff wyler chevrolet for repairs. they had this vehicle from jan 21 - feb 11, and replaced the body control module at a cost of approx $435 dollars. when i started the vehicle the conditions remained the same. i subsequently took the vehicle to an independent repair shop (kt automotive llc). they replaced the ignition switch and condition was corrected (approx cost $180 dollars). note; this condition existed with multiple or no additional keys on my key ring. on 17sept gm recall 14350 was completed on my key(s). given the experiences described above, this recall will not correct the faulty ignition switch defect on this vehicle. *tr

The indicators in the front panel next to the steering wheel work inconsistently. the speedometer, the odometer, gas gauge, turn signals, and emergency blinker signal work sporadically. the right turn signal doesn't work at all. so it is dangerous to try to turn left when cars are advancing towards me or to turn right when cars are driving behind me. the yellow warning light for low gas is the only consistent working signal. this condition has existed for two years.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 35 mph, the temperature warning light illuminated but the vehicle was not overheating. the failure occurred on several occasions. the vehicle was taken to a dealer, who diagnosed that the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 55,000. updated 11/12/14*lj the consumer stated the check engine light has since illuminated. updated 02/03/15

After shopping, my wife started the car and the fuel gauge needle went far to the right well beyond the full mark. at that time, there was approximately 1/2 tank of gas. we noted the mileage from the odometer and have used that as a basis on when to fill the car. we checked with a garage and they showed us a notification that had come from chevrolet that this happened frequently with 2005 chevy impalas. they said it is probably the dashboard cluster or the sensor from the fuel tank. either repair would cost over $500.00. i checked online and noticed that chevy suv's from that era were fixed for free if they had less than 120,000 miles. i also noted a large number of complaints from 2005 chevy impala drivers about the lack of response from chevrolet. if that is the case and their is no compensation for a mistake made by the manufacturer, then this will be the last chevy product i or my family will ever buy. *tr

While driving on the interstate with the cruise set to 65 mph, the needle on the speedometer started to slowly show a decrease in speed eventhough the actual speed of the car did not change. over the next 50 miles the speedometer continued to decrease until it was below 0 although the cars speed stayed a 65mph. since then similar problems appeared with the rpm gauge where the needle shows it redlining even though the car is idling. *tr

Speedometer getting stuck & not registering properly. driver is not able to tell what speed the car is traveling at. this could result in traffic infractions for an otherwise very good driving record & could be a safety hazard. chevrolet really needs to step up & fix this issue as research has shown this is a common problem with this make, model, & year. a family member also has the same car but the base model & his gas gauge suddenly stopped working about a year ago. *tr

Noticed a smell and started seeing smoke coming out of the glove compartment. turned off car and checked to find out the blower motor, resister and harness melted. *tr

This has happened a few times now with both the speedometer and temperature gauge. i start the car and start driving and happen to look down and either the speedometer or the temperature gauge will be giving a false high reading. seeing as the car had just started it could not possibly be overheating. i find if i shut the car off and cycle the key from off to on without starting engine i can get it to drop back to where it should be. i hear this is a very common problem and it will fail eventually. i drive highways mostly and not knowing my correct speed when trying to enter and merge with traffic is very dangerous. *tr

Ignition not working properly. while driving security light comes on. multiple times a week car won't start. battery's perfect. *tr

I was driving my car at 45mph and suddenly my speedometer and instrument panel went crazy. it said i was going 120mph. furthermore, my temperature gauge was inaccurate causing my car to overheat. this caused the head gaskets to blow and other parts had to be replaced. i have spent over $1,900.00 fixing this issue. i was told the instrument panel cluster is not working properly and needs to be replaced which is over $2,000.00. chevrolet knows about this problem yet chooses to sit on the sidelines as thousands of people are having the same issue. action needs to be taken with chevrolet to resolve these issues. thank you *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that the speedometer and temperature gauge were not providing accurate reading levels. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 130,000.

Speedometer stopped working properly. would register zero or off the scale. never correct. with so many complaints you would think that something would be done as this is a necessary instrument but obviously gm doesn't care and ntsb is too busy until someone is killed. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet impala. while driving 35 mph, the contact noticed a burning odor emitting from the engine compartment. in addition, the gauges provided incorrect readings, the vehicle overheated, and the abs, check engine, and multiple other warning lights illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the water pump and multiple parts needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v201000 (engine and engine cooling); however, the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. the failure mileage was 85,000. vin tool confirms parts not available.

It started with the tachometer not reading right, then it started working, then stopped, now the speedometer and tachometer is not working right, if i turn off the car or be at a non-moving state it will read anywhere from 10-20mph, if i am driving it will read or not at all, nothing is accurate...good grief my car has under 41000 miles on it. it seems like to me after looking at the extensive complaints on this problem with the impalas, chevrolet would issue a recall and fix this ridiculous issue. it certainly makes me not want to buy another chevrolet again! i would think they would want to have more of their cars on the road than foreign and realize the american people are more informed and do research before buying large purchases such as a car, and we base our decisions on what we hear and read on companies customer satisfaction, and most importantly the safety issues! *tr

My impala is having traction control and abs issues making it harder to feel safe on the road. abs starts working for no reason when stopping lightly and the traction control also starts working when taking off in normal conditions making the car hesitant. *tr

Problems before gm recall 14350/campaign id 14v400. problem 1 the ignition switch continued to still engage after vehicle was started and key was in the run position. problem 2 after turning the key to stop engine would continue to run until you jiggled the key in the ignition switch. problem 3 hitting a pot hole at 45 mph shut the car off lucky my quick reaction was put it into neutral and restarted the car. september 2014 received the safety recall followed the instructions as claimed which made me laugh cause the only thing i had on the key ring was the key and entry remote. november 2014 recall was done with a plastic insert on the key to keep the weight center mass on the key. as of this day march 2015 i still have all 3 problems i stated earlier, that recall has not fixed the under lining problem of a defective ignition switch its not the key its the switch itself because the car still does all the problems i mentioned in the beginning, i find this a cheap and scary no fix but to satisfy anyone who thinks this was a fix but in reality will cause more harm. the switch needs replaced. *tr

2005 chevrolet impala. consumer writes in regards to lack of recall on vehicle with bad sensor clusters. *smd the consumer stated the speedometer was inoperative, due to a bad sensor cluster.

My 2005 chevy impala intermittently fails to start. it will restart after waiting about 15-20 minutes. this is a similar problem (potential safety issue) i had with a previously owned 2000 impala, and other frustrated impala owners express online. certified technicians are unable to pin point the cause and gm customer service was not helpful when contacted on the matter. *tr

Ignition problems. sometimes vehicle will not start and the security light will come on. other times the vehicle will have trouble starting and the ignition does not catch to start and takes multiple attempt to successful start. a few times the vehicle has started and after moving 500ft or more it stalled and lost all control of brakes and steering. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet impala. the contact stated the ignition failed to start until after numerous attempts. the failure recurred seven times. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who stated that the ignition switch would need to be replaced. the vehicle had not been repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the defect. the failure mileage was unavailable. updated 8/19/14*cn the consumer stated the steering mechanism failed also. updated 09/5/2014 *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet impala. the contact stated after adding gasoline to the vehicle, the fuel gauge displayed an inaccurate reading. the speed odometer remained at zero regardless upon the speed the vehicle was driven. in addition, the temperature gauge would fluctuate. the failure recurred whenever the vehicle was in operation. the manufacturer was not notified of the defect. the approximate failure mileage was 160,000.

I am the original owner of a 68k miles 2005 chevy impala. the car was parked at my place of employment for the 8 hrs. my work hours ended and i started the car to proceed home. i pressed the sunroof switch to make it automatically open. it did not open. smoke started to fill the passenger compartment and i noticed a flicker coming from the headliner. it was a flame. i tapped the headliner to make it go out and exited the car and removed my keys from the ignition upon exiting. *tr

First, i had to replace the rack and pinion steering. could have been the steering knuckle, don't know. then, i was driving about dusk and the low beams went dark. the car has an automatic switch that moves the headlights from daytime mode to nighttime. local mechanic called the gm dealer and spoke with a gm mechanic. the gm mechanic told him the turnstalk assembly was defective and that they frequently replaced them on impalas. i paid for both repairs out of pocket. then, the heater would only work on the passenger side; heater blend door on driver's side was defective. recently, i had the heater blend door repaired at my expense. then, i had the transmission rebuilt at my expense. gm would not assist with any of these repairs even though service bulletins existed on all of these issues. looking at online discussion boards for this car i found all of these issues with numerous owners. the transmission would slip when going from first to second gear and then began bumping in other owners. what a lemon this car has become. *tr

2005 chevrolet impala. consumer writes in regards to gm recall #14350.* ld the consumer stated the vehicle would occasionally stall while driving. the vehicle was inspected and the battery, starter, alternator, etc. were ruled out as possible causes. the consumer had to incur the cost of a faulty ignition. the consumer finally received a recall. but, was still denied reimbursement. *jb

Speedometer wasn't registering any speed at all when car was movin approximately 50 mph. next day, speedometer was reading approximately 30mph faster than probably traveling (90-100mph) on city streets. dealer estimates about $275 for parts, and $190 for labor to fix instrumentation panel. *tr
