Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard and made a grinding noise when it was depressed. the dealer (billion auto buick gmc, 600 w 41st st, sioux falls, sd 57105, (605) 309-0975) was unable to repair the vehicle. the vehicle was diagnosed by more than one independent mechanic. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was excluded from nthsa campaign number: 04v287000 (service brakes, hydraulic). there were eleven tsbs on the brakes. the failure mileage was not available.

Turned on my car started pushing on the gas my car made a weird vibration type sound. came up on message board traction control after a couple times of it doing that, the abs and tax light come on and on the message window it says system traction service. it kinda freaked me out cause i was stopped at a red light went to go hit the gas and it said traction control and i moved a little than i had to let go of gas then try again. also have had a couple incidents where i go to break and it makes a vibration feeling on the brake and brings up traction control again. really would like this checked out very concerned. don't want to get in an accident cause my car fails to take off.

When backing out of the drive way and go to accelerate the abs/traction control engages and causes the car to stop. it also happens on the road once u come to a stop and or stop and turn onto a street or highway. almost got rear ended a few times. i read online at its happening alot to people all over. this problem is constant ever since i bought the car. previous ower advised me of the problem as well.

I've owned a 2004 chevrolet impala for the past 7 years. every year or so my abs, service traction system, and track off lights usually during a non-event situation. i put my brakes on and they lock and all of a sudden all my lights are on. i've spent a lot of money constantly fixing this problem. everyone else with an impala seems to have constant issues with this as well. i'm now being asked to completely change out my abs module & controller for a whopping $3k on a vehicle with only 130k miles after already spending thousands of dollars over the years for abs/traction issues. this is clearly a persistent safety issue which is costing impala owners an arm and a leg and needs to be looked into. i've owed many vehicles with much higher mileage and never had issues like this before.

While driving down the highway i saw some smoke or steam coming from under the right dash . i didn't know what it was , so i check my gauges and every thing looked ok , i continue to driving trying to make it to my mothers house. the car cut itself off and i shift to n and roll into the driveway. i got out went into the house for a couple of min. when i return the car was smoking , i dash water on top of the hood but the smoke turn into flames that's when i called 911. help came and was able to put the fire out.

Faulty/worn ignition switch in this vehicle will generate the following issues: (determined through trial and error due to chronic electrical issues:) 1). engagement and disablement of abs system because of lack of good power to the system from the ignition switch circuit. 2). entire loss of directional system(turn signals) again because of lack of good power to the system from the ignition switch circuit. these two situations lead to vehicle that is unsafe to drive at the time of the failure which may happen stationary or while in motion. these issues were intermittent and would happen at any time. ignition switch in a vehicle should not generate issues such as this.

Frequently, the abs activates the brakes while in motion and no pressure is placed on the brake pedal. usually the abs light and traction control turn on afterwards and indicate they are now disabled. sometimes the lights turn on when the engine is started. the dealer said the speed sensor was defective, so they were replaced twice, but this did not fix the problem. this portable had been ongoing for over 6 months.

I have been experiencing a traction control problem. when i make sharp turns the service traction system light comes on, after this light comes on it pulls to the right and makes it hard to stop and even slides sometimes. i have replaced all speed sensors and replaced the wires and the problem is still reoccuring.

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that while approaching a stop light, the brake pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to stop. the contact had to apply excessive force to the brake pedal in order to stop the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that there was a leak coming from the driver rear side of the vehicle. the dealer diagnosed that the brake lines needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the contact stated that the brake fluid warning light previously illuminated and the vehicle was inspected by the independent mechanic who replenished the brake fluid. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 57,000. updated 04/07/15*lj the brake lines were leaking and corroded and rusted. updated 06/04/15*jb

My service traction system and abs light stays on constantly when i am driving. i don't know what kind of problem this is could you possibly tell me some information and if there's a recall. *tr

Service traction system light has gone on a number times and then went off again. now, when it goes on the abs light and the traction off lights also go on. they usually go off while driving. these warning lights do not always go on. if they are going to go on, it will generally be on start up. today all three lights went on at start up, but the service light went out and the abs and traction lights remained on. turned vehicle off, then back on and the two lights remained on. i've been told it's a common problem with impalas, you can spend a lot of time and money trying to figure out the defect without success. i'm worried that our safety might be in jeopardy. *tr

Chevrolet impala 2004, traveling on a 4 lane divided highway, at 65mph, using cruise control, 2 adult passengers using seatbelts, driver saw truck entering the intersection from the drivers right side. the driver accelerated and swerved to avoid a collision. the impala was struck by the truck. skid marks were made on the highway by the tires of the impala from the impact to where the impala stopped and the engine stopped. the driver worked to put the car into park to restart the impala in order to move the impala to a safer position on the highway, out of the lanes of traffic. upon stopping the driver turned off the ignition key to the off position. the key was not on a key ring. the key had been removed from the fob and key ring upon receiving the safety recall notice, gm recall 14350. the hazard blinkers were turned on. the driver and passenger moved to the adjacent frontage road. the driver of the truck called the local police. the driver of the impala called 911. a police report was made. pictures were taken of the damage to both vehicles and the skid marks on the highway, made by the impala. no skid marks were visible along the path traveled by the truck. the impala hazard blinkers were turned off. the driver attempted to start the impala. the impala did not start. the passenger worked to start the impala, the dash lights did not turn on, the head lights did not turn on. a witness moved a vehicle into position to facilitate a "jump start", the impala started, the security warning light was illuminated. the impala was driven a short distance and parked, odometer reading 297336. arrangements for repair have yet to be determined. *tr

My 2004 impala has the abs light on. it sounds and feels like the abs is coming on while driving. the steering felt odd. i was right by my house so i shut it off and turned back on and drove it the block home. i tried driving it around the block the next day and the same thing happened. i am finding many people posting the same thing on the intranet. many crashes.i called chevy and we read / located the same recall, from 6/14/04 #04049. we in turn called the dealership, and after many days, calls, finally got my car in. they just called saying there is no recall on my specific impala. it is doing exactly what all the other people/crash victims talk about. i called chevy back and they said it goes by state. i guess i am suppose to drive it until it crashes and there is an injury/death before they decide that there are more impala's out there with the same problem that need the recall. i am at wits end and don't know what to do now. my car is at the dealership. i am having an estimate done on doing what the recall stated to do and will then call chevy back to try to push the matter higher up the chain. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet impala. while driving approximately 65 mph, the driver lost control of the vehicle due to the wet road surface. the driver failed to bring the vehicle to a stop and the steering and brakes seized. as a result, the driver crashed into an embankment and a tree. the air bags failed to deploy. the driver sustained neck, head, and back injuries and medical attention was received. a police report was filed and the vehicle was destroyed. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 14v355000 (electrical system), but it was not confirmed if the vehicle was included in the recall. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was unknown.

After listening to a radio report on npr describing the problem with gm ignition switch recalls i decided to test my own car for related problems. as i pulled into my driveway i tapped on the key while it was in the ignition and the key switched from on to acc mode. this resulted in my car engine shutting off, power steering loss, assisted brake malfunction, battery warning light, and the airbag light came on. all of these problems happened exactly as the radio report said they would with a faulty ignition switch. over the last 3 years my brother in-law and i have been having various problems with our ignitions and now i believe all these problems may be caused by the defect which gm has recently reported. i have contacted the gm recall hotline and reported my car model and vin. they informed me that there is nothing they can do since they have not received enough reports linked to the impala. i would appreciate the recall list being expanded to include the impala if possible. at least the years of 2003 and 2004. *tr

The traction control turns on very frequently without control, lightappear claim that the traction system need services and some other time the sinf of the abs i constantly push the tracking system off when is on but do not respond at oll. this causes the car to make a grinding noise. when braking the car makes a grinding noise and car is not stopping it feels like it's locking up and my steering going from left to right in sliding way to . in a sudden stop needing to be made is at great risk of a accident, already was close to pass over a peaton that was mad at me and hit my car in the back because of this problem that i tray to correct but is a manufacture defect to resolve as some as yesteryears,y hope that nobody are kill already, but i will hold starting with "gm chevrolet"responsible for anything who happened to me and family. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that the vehicle would shake vigorously when the brakes were applied. the failure occurred while driving various speeds. the dealer replaced all four brakes, rotors, and tires and performed an alignment; however, the failure recurred. in addition, the vehicle would fail to restart when turned off for thirty minutes or longer. the starter was replaced twice, but this did not remedy the failure. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. the approximate failure mileage was 161,000.

I was driving my 2004 impala when i hit a pot hole. i tried to turn and hit the brakes and nothing worked. i slammed on my emergency brake and after a while i realized the car had shut off completely. a month later my boyfriend had the same experience driving it. *tr

Abs and trac off lights come on every time i start the car and stay on till i turn it off. can't seem to fix it. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that the traction and abs light illuminated on the instrument panel. the contact mentioned that the vehicle made a loud grinding noise which exacerbated when the brakes were applied. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the technician replaced the bearings, brakes and two tires. the remedy failed to repair the problem. the manufacturer was not notified of the defect. the approximate failure mileage was 6,984.

Since last year i've had to replace the brake pads twice because of a grinding/squealing noise. now i need to replace them again ( 4-19-14 ). when ever i applied the brakes the pedal will vibrate and makes noises,if i apply the brakes while on the highway the brake pedal (vibrates a lot )and steering wheel shakes wicked. i brought my car to the dealer ship ( balise of warwick,ri )where it was bought from(my father-in-law bought the car there)and ask about any recalls....they told me that there weren't any recalls for my car. gee i wonder if the person that told me that was just lazy or if there aren't any recalls for it. can someone let me know please...i have my grandson in the car a lot. *tr

Car makes a popping noise from steering. the car started shifting hard occasionally but then goes away. the steering will get tight then really loose. car feels unsafe to drive. especially over a bumpy road feels like you have loose wheels. the car only has 78,800 miles on it. this is insane and i will never again buy a chevrolet! i have kids and feel unsafe driving my car with them in it! i wrecked this vehicle when i tried to apply brakes and the wheels squealed but did not lock up nor did it stop! brakes are fine and in good condition not sure why it wont stop. has happened 5-8 times and car slides! thank god we didn't get severely injured! impala's should be taken off the market if u ask me. *tr

Was turning left from stop when traction light came on also abs light and traction off switch light, now it happens in reverse and sometimes when i start the car. it makes a growling sound,if i shut off the car and restart it all the lights go out. *tr

The traction control light came on before the snow and ice came and then on my way to work with no warning when the brakes were applied i had no brakes at all. i slid right through a busy intersection with no warning. the abs braking system does not work at all in the snow and ice. i was very lucky the cars were spaced out, that kept me from a very serious accident. i have read online that alot of other people are experiencing the exact same problem with the same make, model and year of car. my question is why have they not issued a recall on the 2004 chevy impala before it kills or seriously injures other people. *tr

In the center of the dash in the car when i accellerate i hear two thing, a water swishing sound and a grinding sound coming from under the hood . then my traction control light comes on and sometimes the abs light. then when i go to brake there is another grinding sound. this does not happen every time. but it does happen often. *tr

Traction control tries to kick when braking. brakes act as though they are pushing back against my foot pressure at this time. traction control makes a grinding noise. vehicle has trouble stopping. traction control shuts off, warning light to service traction control comes on, abs shuts off and light comes on, and red "brakes" light turns on. vehicle drives and brakes just fine after that for the remainder of the drive. on occasion these events happen when going over a railroad tracks or other similar bumps and brakes are not involved. *tr

For several months now, more often when slippery winter conditions exist but this can happen even on perfectly dry road conditions. when i back out of my driveway and put my impala into drive and start to accelerate the dashboard warning light for traction control and abs braking systems. this happens with a noticeably loud grinding noise in the front end. automatically i release the accelerator and the systems half the time seems to reset itself as the grinding noise stops, the traction control light goes out and the abs warning light goes out as well. i begin to accelerate with no problem at that point. the other half of the time the lights all stay on for the length of my drive, with the grinding subsiding when i release the accelerator. i took the car to a chevrolet dealer, explained the situation and they told me it may be a speed sensor going bad. they would have to diagnose it and possibly replace the sensor and quite a large cost. i argued that if my brakes are not working properly than this may well be a safety issue and chevrolet should repair the problem for free. no chance. i took my car to another dealer with the same result. pay for the repair. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet impala. the contact stated that while driving 35 mph and attempting to stop, the brake pedal became dificult to depress and failed to respond. as a result, the contact crashed into the rear of another vehicle. a police report was filed. the contact sustained injuries to the right arm, the thumb and the rotator cup, which required medical attention. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was unavailable.

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet impala. the contact noticed that when he would depress the brake pedal, the brake pedal would become extremely resistant. the abs warning light illuminated on the instrument panel and the vehicle was taken dealer. the dealer advised that they had to replace the front wheel sensor. the vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 88,000 and the current mileage was 110,000.

Well i'm so tired of repairing the same problem .this abs issues are driving me crazy i mean i already replaced the [xxx] computer the bearings the cable that sends the signal and still this problem is going on in since 2009. ever since 2009 is ridiculous and dangerous i mean is a matter of time before this issue becomes an accident i mean i'm driving fine and all of a sudden the [xxx] car acts all stupid the brakes don't even work fine because the abs system makes them push back to you and then it makes your car pull to the right for no reason it so annoying i'm a hard working person i have invested a lot of money into my car for gmc to sell me a dangerous car i also had to get another motor because the original would shake when ever you would accelerate but i just want to get this dangerous issue fixed please make them repair my car because sooner or later my wife or me are going to have an accident....thank you *tr information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

My wife was driving home from work when the engine stopped running and caused her to have to pull off the road. it took several minutes before car would restart. since the first time she had this happen at least 3 times a year since. i've driven the car several times after she has told me it happened again and had our mechanic look at it also. also have had the instrument panel gauges not working properly for 2 years now and haven't been able to figure out why, we think there is a short somewhere in the electrical system but have not been able to pin point it. the chrome plate aluminum alloy rims the chrome has been flaking off since the car was 2 years old and we now have to keep refilling the tires with air at least once a week. have gone to the dealer a couple of times but get a run around that its not a problem with the car. i have talked to a gentleman who also has the only other 2004 impala ss in our town and he has the same problems as we have had and gotten same response from our local dealer where we both bought our cars from. my impala ss at this time has just over 80,000 miles on it and in addition to problems mentioned above we had to have power steering pump, rack in pinion and alternator replaced and looking like the rack in pinion is going out again as i write this. i've become very disappointed with chevrolet over this car. *tr
