Fuel line rusted out. the car is only 9 years old and i got stuck in the country
The fuel line rusted off the car. this is a known problem with gm vehicles due to the wrap that gm wrapped around the fuel lines. please help me find a resolution to the issue that is caused by this gm issue.
Gas smell coming from the vehicle and trouble starting. identified a leak coming from the underside back of the car. gas smell happens when driving, strong when idling, strongest just after stopping. went to research the problem online and found that this is more than common. it's an epidemic.
Fuel line rusted out at 8 years old. just behind passenger door. next to exhaust pipe.
The fuel line rusted out in front of drivers side rear tire, spraying a fine stream of gas when under pressure. i understand this is a common problem with hhr's, luckily, i caught it early compared to others. vehicle had just over 100,000 miles at the time, and has been very well taken care of.
Fuel lines on these vehicles are exposed which has caused rusting and the lines break. vehicle is leaking gas and only the dealer carries the part
Car only has 54,168 miles. check engine light appeared 4 months ago. i have taken it to a number of mechanics as well a dealer but no one can seem to figure out what the cause of it is. grossinger chevy kept it for 1 day claims to not find anything but light still on. tremendously concerning.
Shortly before christmas (2015) we bagan to smell fuel from the rear driver's side of our 2010 hhr. there did not appear to be any leaking gas; however, we took the car to the dealer for proper diagnosis. the dealer determined the fuel lines had rusted through. when we took the car home to decide our next action, we discovered it was now leaking a significant amount of fuel, and promptly brought the vehicle back for full repair. the car was 5 years old. everyone i have spoken with since has never heard of rusted fuel lines on a 5 year old vehicle. i wrote gm's executive office, and they simply stated that it was due to environmental conditions. i live in florida, but do not live directly on or near the ocean. i also do not park the car at or near the ocean on any kind of regular basis. this car also never drives in snow. if environmental conditions caused the fuel lines to go bad, every car in florida would have their fuel lines replaced every five years, and this is simply not the case. the distinction is that fuel lines do not rust through on vehicles of this age. there are numerous model years of the hhr reporting the exact same issue in numerous states all over the usa; thus, this is not a localized environmental issue. faulty design and/or materials is causing these fuel lines to prematurely rust out at the joints. almost all of the reports of this issue occur before five years of age for the vehicle. if corvette's were having their fuel lines rust out within 5 years, there would be a recall; however, as the hhr is discontinued, nothing has been invested into researching this inherent vice. by the time we actually had the repair done on our hhr, it was actually leaking a significant amount of gas, and it easily could have ignited and killed our family. apparently someone has to die, for a recall to be issued.
This car has a known issue by gm enough to have them place a bulletin out on how to fix it....the fuel line rusts then leaks....this car is 4 years old and i had to replace a potential fire hazard at my cost...gm should fix this issue not i....i called my mechanic and told him i had a leak in the fuel line.....i quote him exactly...let me guess driverside in front of the rear tire....its a known issue...i sat on the phone with my mouth open....i could not believe this....this is abhorrent and chevrolet gm....needs to be accountable for these rolling balls of fire. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet hhr. the contact stated that fuel fumes were emitted into the vehicle. also, the contact mentioned that she noticed fuel had leaked on the floor and the vehicle hesitated when started. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was no longer under warranty. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 55,000.
