I have a 2007 chevy hhr. i've had the fuel pump replaced. but not many others. until now there is a chime and the power steering indicator on the dash comes on and the power steering assist goes off. at first it was once in awhile. now i can drive 30 seconds to 10 min and the power assist goes out. i restart and it comes back for a moment or so. all the way to work no power steering assist. on the way home it worked fine. i can't find any pattern to it. key in the ignition only as stated in the recall notice i received about the power steering going out. everything on the key chain it seems to work more often than not. i have contacted a chevy dealership and chevy. but since my vin is not on the power steering recall i will have to pay for it out of pocket. which i do not have the money after i did my taxes. this is obviously an issue and needs to be fixed. i found a notice on the gm website that listed the 2006-2007 hhr to have lifetime warranty on the power steering. but since there is no recall on it i am out of luck. i sent the article to the chevy dealership and they won't do anything because the vin isn't listed. as far as i am concerned this should be covered. far too many people have had this issue fo it not to be covered to some extent. *tt

As i was driving home on the highway, the power steering light went on and then i lost power steering. i pulled it over to the side of the road and turned the car off. after waiting a few minutes, i turned the car back on. it was fine - for a bit. during my 21 mile commute, this happened 4 times. every time, i lost power steering, pulled the car to the side of the road, and turned it off. each time i turned it on, it was fine for a bit. this is very unsafe due to the lack of steering - it felt like i was driving a tractor each time this happened and turning corners was very difficult. once i got home, we checked the owner's manual and it stated that when this happens, the electronic power steering device is faulting. we checked on the internet to find out how to purchase that part and discovered that there are several reports claims that the 2007-2009 hhr and cobalts have this same issue. so, we called and purchased a part from the chevrolet dealership in elburn. i asked them about how to make a complaint and i was led to discuss this with gm and make a complaint. then, i am making a complaint with your company as well. *tr

on march 27, 2014, while driving at the speed of 45mph, the steering wheel became hard to turn. this is the third time of this particular incident. the first incident happened around november 2013. each time the vehicle was taken to a chevrolet dealer to be fixed. now i have noticed the coolant temperature displaying under the mileage panel of 95 to 200 degrees. *tr

I bought my car a week ago. drove it home with no incident. then drove it was on the highway to take my elderly mother to an airport 40 miles away. after seeing her off, i went to get my new car washed. then got back onto the i-5 and drove about 3 miles, when i heard a tone and the dash board under the speedometer lit up, stating i had lost power steering. i was in the middle lane of six lanes, going 60 miles an hours in a brand new to me car i was not used to driving, in congested commuter traffic. i am not strong. i was scared out of my mind. luckily i was on a straight away. i put on my hazard lights and people eventually let me over. i took the next off ramp and managed my way home on frontage roads and side streets, which of course took forever. arriving home i turned the ignition off and cried with relief and frustration. then i turned the ignition back on to see what the message on the dash was again and it was gone. i'm terrified to drive this car again. and everything thing i've read online since, said that if the shop doesn't see the message or duplicate the problem, they can't fix it, equalling money wasted. this problem is not new, highly dangerous and recalled in at least one of chevrolet's other cars and recalled on the hhr in canada. why not here??? aren't americans as valuable as canadians??? please make this a recall and contact me when you do. i have a car i can't drive without fear and can't sell in good conscience. i am older, in poor health and without much money, i feel that i have been cheated. no one should be allowed to sell unsafe cars any where!!! i also feel this problem is why chevrolet is discontinuing the hhr, and leaving us out in the cold with their mistake. does someone have to die for a recall??? i feel it was close in my case!!! *i will begrudgingly be taking it to a dealer for repair. what else can i do? *tr

We took our 2007 chevrolet hhr into the dealership as the recall noticed prescribed. my wife waited 1 1/2 hours for the repair. the dealer ship personnel returned asking my wife for the, quote: "old keys because they will no longer work after the repair" then handing her a new set of keys after surrendering the old keys. when my wife returned home the ignition switch still did not work as the switch tumbler would not release the key in the park position as before the "faulty ignition switch had been replaced". i still had one of the original ignition keys , as told by the dealership "it wouldn't work"... i placed the old key in the ignition switch and it started the car. it would not release the old key as before the "r&r". all we received imo was a new set of keys & false hope that the general motors defects had been resolved. the hhr still has the same defects as it did before taking it to the dealership. (smoke & mirrors no resolve). *tr

We purchased this vehicle used in late 2009 with approximately 30000 miles. a couple years into ownership the car engine began shutting off while driving unexpectedly, 4 times during left hand turns where we were turning into parking lots or driving over a dip in the road. once over a pothole. it's very scary , left hand turns are dangerous maneuvers anyways , let alone having your car stall while doing it. these incidents occurred before we ever heard of recall. we received the notices in the mail , but parts were not available and the dealer is clearly overwhelmed and annoyed. our first contact was incredibly rude and put my husband on hold for twenty minutes and then basically said don't call us we will call you and hung up on him.. in may the power steering issue happened while i was driving on the freeway traveling 65mph on a freeway curve during heavy winds . the chime sound was followed by the error message and i became very afraid and the car was very hard to steer. i finally got to shoulder after completely panicking because i did not understand what happened. the car will resume normal operation after turning off for a period and restarting, but it's just a matter of time till it happens again. the recall on the steering is not being covered because my model year is not included in recall even though gm is covering it in other 2007???? makes no sense. i'm told that they are extending lifetime warranty to original owner but most of these model years are already in resale market so we are excluded, so i guess this will fall on our pockets. . i am very annoyed and i refuse to drive my kids around in this death trap anymore. i asked for loaner finally. i'm done with this thing. *js

I have a 2007 chevy hhr and bought it used at a chevrolet dealer in winslow, arizona in 2009. and i've been reading about problems with this car. i've only had the car for almost 2 yrs. my key gets stuck in the ignition and won't come out after i park the car. i noticed the problem last summer and took it to the dealership. they just told me how to get the key out. there was a cover under the steering column and the auto guy showed me the little pin. he told me to push the pin toward the driver window and this will release the key to the "off" position and the key will then release. it has been occurring more frequently and now it occurs everytime i turn the car off and try to turn the key to the "off" position. i've read it has to do something with the gear shift. my gear shift also gets locked in the park position. gmc has recalled the 2009 chevy hhr's with this same problem. i think all hhr's should be recalled and fixed for no charge.. this is a very dangerous problem. the traffic safety administration needs to look into this safety problem. thank you for your time in reading this email... *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet hhr. the contact stated that he was unable to remove the key from the ignition. he depressed an unknown switch under the steering column and was finally able to remove the key. the manufacturer was contacted and referred him to the dealer for further assistance. the dealer replaced the shifter assembly. the failure mileage was 32,600 and the current mileage was 32,700. updated 12/19/11 *cn the consumer stated the problem was the gear shift control. when the micro safety switch was inoperative, the gear shift lever may be moved from park all the way through the other gears. if the emergency brake was not set, the vehicle would move. updated 02/04/15

2007 chevrolet hhr the shifter will not lock into gear and key is stuck in ignition. this is a major safety hazard as seeing while you are driving you can go into any gear at anytime if it is accidentally bumped which can cause a major accident. i had to unhook the battery to turn everything off since the key will not come out of ignition. *tr

In aug of 2010 i replaced the ignition switch cylinder. the key was stuck in the ignition and i could not remove it without replacing . in jan 2012 power steering went out and key in ignition again i took to gm dealer on a recall notice, but apparently not my vin so i had to pay $320.00 out of pocket to fix. 4-2014 my power steering has been out multiple times usually can repair by replacing the fuse. but this time i have been driving for 4 months without power steering and replacing fuse does not fix. waiting on parts for recall but none available yet. also my inside passenger door handle broke 1 yr ago and cannot open door from the inside . i have know that this has happened in at least 4 other hhr owners cars also . *js

When putting the car in park, the key would not remove from the ignition. also, the car could be shifted through the gears without pressing the button on the shifter. there is a safety issue in that the gear shift can be bumped into and out of various gears. after opening the center console, i discovered that the plastic plunger that goes down through the shifter had broken, and in the process allowed the metal pin that closes the contact with the ignition to come loose. this has occurred approximately 6 - 10 times in the past 2 weeks, with increasing frequency. i called the local dealership, terry labonte chevy in greensboro, nc only to be told that i had probably spilled some liquid. *tr

While working on my car and cleaning i discovered i am driving a bomb. the battery is located in the spare tire compartment directly over the gas tank a rear end collision would set off an immediate fire or exlplosion from an electrical short, spark, or battery explosion, should the gas tank or any connections to be broken. *tr
