Recently reported TIRES problems on 2007 Chevrolet Equinox

Air pressure sensor on rear driver tire indicated 28 pounds. when the mechanic turned the cap to remove it from the valve stem, the stem broke off (due to corrosion). dealer says the wrong caps were on it it - it should have been metal caps. i bought this vehicle from this dealership but they say they have no responsibility. after getting the sensor and valve stem replaced ($86), i brought the tire back and put it back on. checked remaining valve stems and another one broke off on the front passenger side. another $85 and i will eventually have to replace the other two. dealer is the only one who has checked my air pressure (during oil changes and multi-point inspections) and never mentioned i had the wrong caps on the valve stems. i have contacted general motors with my safety concern. had i been driving when the valve stem blew out, i could've easily been injured or killed. gm maintains there is no recall on this issue and will not pursue the issue. i not only feel this should be a recall, but i feel they owe my money back to me. this is the first gm product i've had (jeep/chrysler products in the past). i'm disappointed in the excuses the dealership gave me (wrong valve caps, moisture got underneath and caused corrosion) and with gm's response, since it doesn't have a recall on it, we really don't care if you could have been killed. i have already begun telling equinox and torrent drivers to check their valve stems! shame on you gm. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. in september 2010, the contact discovered that the front driver side tire was flat. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who stated that the valve stem had broken off. the rear driver side valve stem had also broken off. the mechanic stated that it was normal for the valve stems to break. the failure mileage was 38,000 and the current mileage was 54,000.

Have had my 07 equinox for 1 month and 1 week and the area in the back where the spare tire is has filled with water more than once. last night i was driving it in the rain and a very loud vibrating noise came and went as i was driving the entire trip. i took it to the dealer and they couldn't find a leak. i also found out that my bearings to my alternator are worn. not very happy with my expensive purchase that is turning into more expense as i didn't get a warranty. who needs a warranty on a 2 year old car? well apparently you need one on a 2007 equinox. very disappointed in my purchase. *tr

Found tire partially flat after being parked overnight,( approx 14 lbs air left in tire) drove vehicle to gas station nearby to fill with air. filled tire with air, when removing the air chuck form valve stem the tip of the valve stem broke off ejecting the valvecore and thus the tire rapidly started loosing air. after further investigation, i found that the valve stem was not made of steel or brass but of aluminum. i had to have the whole valve component replaced at my local dealer and the tire was checked for leakage and since the valve was replaced it has maintained air. this valve unit is on a 2007 chevrolet equinox. i have researched this component and found that it is made by siemans-vdo a continental corp. i thought i would make you aware of this since i feel this could result in some serious accidents. it seems to me that these valve stems should be made of steel since they are an exterior component, subject to some abuse(ie:curbs, muddy roads, car washes etc.) *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. the contact started the ignition and the front passenger side air bag warning indicator began to illuminate continuously. the passenger seat was occupied at the time of the failure. the warning indicator remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. the failure recurred when the vehicle was in operation. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer seven times for the failure. the technician was unable to duplicate the problem.the contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number 07v344000 (air bags:frontal:sensor/control module) but was advised that the vin was not included in the recall. the vehicle had not been repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the defect. the approximate failure mileage was 24,283. updated 12/21/12*lj updated 1/9/2013*js

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. ever since the vehicle was purchased, the contact heard a ticking sound in the engine compartment. he stated that the vehicle had poor fuel mileage. the contact also had to jump from the vehicle because the serpentine belt caught a wire that was not in a wiring harness as it should have been. the contact also experienced stabilatrac failure on two separate occasions, which caused the power steering to fail. he has been injured twice because the rear hatch door struts failed and struck him in the head. the tires that came on the vehicle were severely worn and the turn signals would not shut off. the two front doors and the rear hatch door cracks and makes squeaking noises. some repairs have been made; however, the rear hatch needs to be repaired along with the ticking sound in the engine. the failure mileage was 170 and current mileage was 26,000.
