We have classified the 23 complaints from 2007 Chevrolet Equinox about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Transmission went bad at 100 thousand miles been in the shop for 8 weeks now.shop manager says they are having a hard time finding parts for the transmission.
While driving either on city or freeway the car started shaking, jerking, and vibrating really badly when applied pressure to the accelerator pedal, the vehicle would not gain speed, instead it would slow down and it felt like gas was not going trough. it first started 3 months ago took it to for an oil change and the recommendation i received from service agent was to get fuel system cleaned and change the transmission fluids which cost me around $298. the same day it did the same thing while driving on the freeway, so i let it be for a while but it continues with the same problem and have contacted service agent but have no solution for me. the other issue it has is the key always gets stuck, and need to turn the car back on then turn the wheel, but sometimes it takes more than this to get the key out from the ignition switch.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the key would not eject from the ignition when turning off the vehicle. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 37,000. updated 4/21/15*cn the consumer stated she was unable to shift the gear out of park and the key would not come out of the ignition. updated 04/28/15
Less than 4,000 miles driven after i purchased this vehicle the transmission needed to be replaced as it would not shift out of 2nd gear. the heater core also exploded on the way to the dealership to assess the transmission issues. around 20-25,000 miles after purchase the engine coolant temp gauge stopped reporting temperatures correctly and would redline even if the car was off for over 2 days it would start up way above the normal operating temperature. the fuel guage no longer correctly indicates how much gas is left in the tank and will not move off of empty even after pumping 13 gallons into the tank. vehicle was stationary at a red light when heater core blew out. vehicle was being driven during transmission, temperature, and gas gauge failures.
When car is parked gear shift is in "park" the ignition key will turn off engine but cannot remove the key. must restart engine, put into gear and back into "park" and turn the steering wheel for a second try to remove the key. sometimes it takes 4 attempts to get the key to come out! has been on-going for several weeks. *tr
I was driving and the car started shaking and vibrating very bad. i called and was told it could be my tires if they were not all about the same tread. i had replaced two tires a couple months prior so i told my husband to pull my rear tires to see if it helped. as soon as he put the spare on the passenger rear side the vibrating stopped. so we took the car in and had 2 more tires put on. that did not stop the vibration. i could only drive on a spare home. so i took it to dealership and it needed a rear drive shaft!!! *tr
Took car in for vibrations. tried replacing tires to see if that was problem. it was not, it was u-joint worn into flange and center support bearing has excessive play. replaced rear driveshaft asm with center support bearing. *tr
Transmission will not shift into third gear without letting off the gas, valve body solenoid problem. rear wiper motor bad, ignition gets stuck on with key in, have to put gear shifter in and out of gear multiple times to get key out. electronic stability control off lights comes on after just a few seconds of vehicle being started. alternator was whining extremely loud, had to replace. heater blend door broken, cannot have hot air for winter or cold a/c in summer. sounds like water rushing through dash board when car is started. very heavy odor of antifreeze inside car when heat is on. *tr
The ignition key would get stuck in the ignition. the only way i could get it out would be to repeatadly shift from park to drive or reverse until the key was released. i took it to my local chevy dealer for repair. it cost $544 to get it fixed. i have heard of others having the same issue. *tr
I lost power steering in my car. i had no warning to indicate there was a problem. i was driving and it went out. this is very dangerous and i could have crashed. there needs to be a recall on this, my power steering module failed. i had to replace it which was very costly. i have read that there has been numerous complaints on this year and model with the same issue. *tr
While driving on interstate 95 going 70 mph , the steering locked up and i lost power when all the dash lights started flashing. this was the day after i bought the car from auto showcase of belair md. the power steering going out happened atleast 7 times in the first two weeks alone. i requested for them to take the car back, they refused.. 4 weeks into owning this car the power steering issue was finally resolved.during that time period i found out that the car sold to me was stolen, the dealer did not tell me that and showed me paper work that was not a car fax report. three months later in october of 2013 my car started over heating and cutting power off to the engine while driving the speed limit on 95. it happened 5 times. a mechanic looked it over and said the head gaskets were blown. after a month it was fixed. one month later in december, my car would shut off on me while driving. i am not joking when i say that happened over 100 times. i have over 20 videos of this happening up until just recently in february of 2015. so the issue now, other than my car just randomly shutting off while driving, is my head gaskets blew again. i have been looking on line and have found this to be a serious problem for thousands of other chevy equinox owners! why has this particular model not have recalled!? this model is dangerous to anyone that drives it or just happens to be on the road near them. when my car has shut off on me over 100 times ihave cut multiple drivers off every time trying to make it to the shoulder. this needs to be recalled! this vehicle model is far from safe and i do believe that you know this. you can look up any chevy equinox forum on the internet and find these incidents. *tr
The car starts to jerk while driving almost causing me to have an accident. the transmission jerks and the tractions control makes the car become undrivable. the computer in the car is defected i purchased the car last year in 2013 and the car computer transmission is no good. *tr
Check engine light came on and car felt sluggish. took to dealership and found throttle body asm/tps registers incorrectly. replaced throttle body asm. *tr
After parking car and turning key to turn off engine i can't get the key out the car. issue happens a few times a week and sometimes happens all day. sometimes you have to sit and wait or restart car and drive around and then park to get key out. i have seen the issue reported on multiple sites and forums yet gm still hasn't issued a recall. *tr
Ignition key will not come out once the car is turned off and put into park. i have read numerous complaints concerning this problem and no-one can tell if this happens because of the key cylinder or because of gear shift not properly going into park. *tr
I been smelling gas for over a week outside then inside of car. was told i can drive and bring to dealership asap as long as there is no leaks. i took car to the dealer in jenkintown,pa and was told there was a leak from fuel pump line to engine. i notice several customers have the same problem since 2010 and now it's 2012. why haven't this been on a recall due to it can be very dangerous with a gas leak when a customer smells gas but don't see a leak. customers can think maybe gas spilled a little on car but when you smell gas when you are driving, there is an issue. i know customers like myself had paid for this service which should have been a recall. i had to pay $949 for part and labor which is totally unfair when i'm not the only one with this issue. i will report to consumer report regarding 2007 chevy equinox with all the issues i had from getting a transmission to now gas leak. very very dangerous! *tr
Key sticks in ignition when entered into park, and will not come out most of the time. the only way to release the key is to stick finger into a hole in the steering column and slide the manual release switch within the steering wheel column. there are no obstructions which prevent the gear shift lever from entering the full park position. *tr
I purchase the 2007 equinox used from day one i have had problems the first one was the car would slow down on its on and when i speeded up it would slow down then it wouldn't start i replaced the battery and now the same thing it will not start, there is a noise that i hear when i drive like something is lose, the back windshield wiper works and not works the passenger seat beat light keeps coming on i will never buy another chevrolet product. *tr
I bought a 2007 chevrolet equinox in 2010. it has a problem with service stabilitrak and check engine light on. i called service advisor at chevy dealership and needs to run diagnostic to find out problem with stabilitrak. the vehicle has over 71,000 miles, should be covered with drive train warranty. i will need to pay for diagnostic first, then the problem will be covered under warranty. i feel the warranty for drive train should cover the diagnostic charge and parts, labor. now i cannot bring vehicle in to service until $$ are covered for diagnostic check. the warranty covers used cars drive train. let me know, and let the dealership know about this complaint. gateway chevrolet. 9901 w papago fwy avondale, az 85323, telephone 623-932-4389. *tr
2007 equinox chevrolet - the ignition has been locking up and key could not be removed. dealership has replaced ignition three times and it still locked up. today the wheel is locked, the gear shift is locked up and nothing will move. they are sending a tow truck to haul it into the shop again. my complaint is not the dealership it is chevrolet. the internet lists thousands of equinox's with the same issue and a recall should have been done to pull these in and fix the issue once and for all at no cost to the consumer. i think it is time for a class action suit against chevrolet. my issue has been ongoing for since this past winter. *tr
2007 chevrolet equinox service stabilitrak, service traction control, engine power reduced, received these faults numerous times all at once, car has been in shop ( dealer ) now going on 5 times, main concern being engine power reduced and has almost caused an accident on several occasions while merging into traffic, this has been going on now since feb 2010. *tr
2007 chevy equinox turned off automatically while driving on the hwy, then when pressing on the gas, would kick back on, but then turn off again. i had to coast to the side of the road, wait for about 10 mins, then it started again. this time engine light came on, and i was able to make it home. turned it into the mckinney chevy dealership on 4/11/09 and found out that oxygen sensor went out and needed to be replaced. mileage on car is only 44,352 and i have only had the car for about 6 months! i continue to have problems over and over again with vehicle turning off while i'm driving. it's 4/18/09 today and it's doing it again. i'll have to turn vehicle back into dealership again on monday. this vehicle is extremely unsafe! i am stuck in this vehicle financially and texas lemon law does not protect me! i don't know what to do and am '!@#$% that i'm stuck with a '!@#$% near brand new car and continue to deal with taking it in for repairs!!! from what i read on the internet through other complaint sites, many consumers are having issues with their chevy vehicles turning off while driving!! this is not only a safety issue for the consumer driving the car, but also anyone else on the road near these kinds of vehicles. something must be done or someone is going to die due to this issue!!!!!!!!! *tr
Traction control system activated at approx 50mph due to water on road. during traction system operation, the vehicle transmission downshifted to a lower gear, causing partial loss of control and path deviation into the adjacent lane. this has recurred several times on different occasions. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. the contact was driving 60 mph, when the power reduce warning light illuminated. the vehicle then decelerated abnormally and the vehicle would not accelerate over 20 mph. the failure was experienced numerous times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostics but was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 30,000 and the current mileage was 70,000. *js
After driving for hours at speeds up to 70 mph (ct to ga) the (drive line?) hum becomes a vibration on smooth asphalt road surfaces. the vibration goes away below 65mph or when i start up cold again the next day. on dash tire pressures start at 34 psi cold and are at 40 psi when the vibration comes in. the original bridgestone tires were replaced and the vibration is still there. *tr
I had 2 chevy equinox 2007 model, loaded. first vehicle repurchased due to multiple episodes of stabilitrak failure, turn signals quit working, radio problems, passenger system airbag not working, and finally failure of main airbag system. given exact twin of first car, as thought that car was just a lemon. 2nd equinox had 2 episodes of stabilitrak failure, and a new steering column placed, and then had total system failure of the steering, brakes, gas, stabilitrak, and airbag system while driving the vehicle. i had absolutely no control over any of these systems! you could turn my steering wheel 360 degrees, and the wheels never moved, the brakes didn't work, the gas didn't work, and all alarms were going off that the systems, including the airbags were not working. luckily, no one was injured as i had just begun making a turn into roadway and all vehicles coming at me both ways were able to swerve, and the car was going slow enough and over a slight incline that it rolled to a stop just before hitting a steel light post. this car was also repurchased. something is very wrong in the engineering of this vehicle and i am concerned for all the other people owning/driving this vehicle. *tr

2007 chevy equinox with transmission failure. customer states the vehicle started bucking when it was shifting gears. she stated that the dealer said it was the power steering. she stated the engine and stabilitrak lights illuminated. *kb not long after the consumer picked the vehicle up from the dealer, the vehicle repeated the same noise and the vehicle would not move forward while in drive. the consumer had to drive in reverse to get the vehicle to a safe place *jb
I purchased a 2007 chevrolet equinox from jba chevrolet which has consistently demonstrated that there were problems when making left turns and feeling secure and balanced in the vehicle. while i have taken the vehicle to the dealership on numerous occasions, 5-6 times my concerns have been ignored. i have been told that there was no problem. i have owned at least 9 vehicles in my lifetime ,and i have never experienced the uncomfortable, unsafe and unbalanced turmoil that i am having with this car. i have been advised by mr. tire in glen burnie, maryland that the vehicle was unsafe. the axle was not built to chevrolet specifications ,and the automobile should have never been sold to me. while i continued to experience this concern, and i am currently considering returning the automobile to the dealership, and ultimately renting/leasing an automobile which was safe for me and my daughter. i feel that i must file a complaint as i pay a large monthly payment for this vehicle ,and i should be getting my money worth instead i am emotionally distraught and literally afraid to drive the car. the only repair which has been done to the car to supposedly correct the balancing issue and the tire pressure issue has been to replace the original tires. after replacement of tires the problem continued to exist, and i continue to file complaints, hopefully to rectify the situation.*ak
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet equinox. the vehicle was parked with both front tires on a patch of ice. the tires rolled on the ice. the dealer informed the contact that this was normal due to the characteristics of an all wheel drive. the dealer also told the contact that he should just apply the emergency brakes. *ak updated 2/27/2007 - the consumer feels that the vehicles should not move at all while in park. the consumer feels that the locking pin in the transmission may not be engaging properly. *nm
