Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet equinox. while decelerating to stop the vehicle, the contact felt the brake pedal vibrate excessively. the traction control and abs warning indicators illuminated intermittently. the failure occurred whenever the vehicle was in use. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic on three occasions. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle had not been repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 109,000.
Over the past year my chevy equinox has been giving problems. i have had to have the ignition switch change out twice because when it is hot outside the ignition cylinder swells and the key can not be turned. the past three months there has been electrical problems where the traction control light comes on and the car just shuts off immediately and will not start again. *tr
Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) on icy road surface, with traction control on (default in this car), the abs brakes on chevy equinox 2006 would not stop the car. the wheels would not stop until the traction control is turned off by the driver. the condition is not described in the manual of the car and it was just pure luck that i avoided an accident after being in such a situation. anybody driving this car with abs and traction control should know that wheels will not completely stop under icy conditions, no matter how they will handle the brakes. chevrolet should warn about this very dangerous condition in the manual, (which otherwise has tens of useless redundant warnings, but nothing about the above mentioned situation). an important detail - the road was in a slow descending slope. consistent with the abs and traction control working noises, the system seemed to work continuously - but the final result was the car rolling freely and not coming to a stop until traction control button was turned off. please check condition with manufacturer and have a label applied on the dashboard about this condition - or post a warning in the manual.[xxx] *tr
All is good until the reduce engine power and traction control light comes on then you can go about 10mph - also know as "limp mode", which around here would be "run me over" mode. this is dangerous and i have been very fortunate to not get hit when it has happened. october 11, 2008: 45,000 miles replace throttle body assembly march, 2011: 82,000 miles replace throttle body assembly august 2014: 125,142 miles replace throttle body assembly this is ridiculous. this repair at dealership is $700.00 each time. this is a part that should never have an issue to the point the my dealer actually says i have the only car they have ever had to change out let alone change out three times. *tr
