My 2006 chevrolet equinox has a un -fixable [per dealer] a.c. problem. driving in florida with temps in the high nines in traffic the temp inside the car is much higher. being in our seventies i nearly passed out while driving. this problem is rampart on google with hundreds of the same issue. trying to drive with in-car temp. over 112 is scary and not safe. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the heater malfunctioned. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 98,000.
For a few months my key was having trouble turning in my ignition as well as my spare key. it finally stopped working all together. i had to get my car towed and had to have the housing and ignition replaced. my mechanic has informed me this is an ongoing problem with the equinox models. my friend and i have the same model but different years and are realizing we are having the same issues. if this is such a problem for chevy they need to place it on the recall list instead of consumers having to pay $450 for something they know is an existing problem. *tr
No heat in 2006 equinox. door used to change from heat to cool broken due to malfunction of actuator. *tr
2006 chevy equinox (49351 miles) just quit blowing hot air through vents or defroster. dealer says a broken blend door cost $1500 to repair. seems this make/model has the same problem at about 50000 miles. what is chevrolet doing to help the purchasers of this vehicle. not a [xxx] thing. great customer service, i will never purchase another chevy/gm product. very dangerous situation in cool temps where windshield fogs up driving down the road. i guess it will take a fatality for chevy to admit fault and correct this. highly disappointed!!! *tr information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet equinox. while driving at an unknown speed the contact was operating the air conditioning unit; however, heat was blowing out of the vents. for a short time only cold air would flow from the vents instead of heat; the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the heater flap needed to be replaced. a screw was installed to temporarily remedy the failure. the failure and current mileages were 76,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet equinox. while driving approximately 50 mph with the air conditioning unit on she could feel hot air blowing from the vents. due to the loss of hot air the windshield began to fog and disrupt her visibility. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing nor was it repaired. the failure and current mileages were 18,000. the vin was unavailable.
Our car 2006 equinox vin [xxx] heater failed and defroster then did not work. december 5 my heater on this car failed to work causing dangerous conditions in my car as it was cold and defrost would not function. window kept fogging over. noted that there are multiple complaints on line about this. reported this to chevy. part that determines heat vs cool fails, part costs about $38.22, chevy charged over $1317 to repair as this part is in the dashboard and supposedly difficult to reach!! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
In october of 2010 my 2006 chevy equinox heater began blowing cold air. i did research and found a lot of equinox owners are having the same issue. i went and received a diagnostics at the dealership and they said it is the temperature door and the repair cost is $1300. this is a safety issue because i am unable to defrost the windows if there is a snow storm or just being too cold. this happens whenever i turn on the heat and my concern is being able to see out the windshield if it fogs up or freezes. gmc has yet to issue a recall on the defective part. i have googled this problem and there is a website with over 400 complaints of consumers with the same issue and their vehicle being diagnosed with the same defective part. *tr
2006 chevy equinox heater stopped working at 75k+ miles. i am told by dealer and numerous complaints online by same exact vehicle owners that this is a faulty and defective blender door arm. it was replaced with plastic versus metal for 2006 in effort to cut corners. they all consistently break at 3 years or more! very common complaint. it is a safety issue when you are driving in 20degree weather and constantly get sick! also unable to defrost ice and haze from wind shield since only cold air blows out! this diminishes the visibility significantly! if i can't see from my windshield and have to a) drive with window open and freeze, b) use hand to wipe off while driving or c) pull over constantly and clean off windshield or use the mini plug in heater i had to purchase to help defrost my iced wind shield in the morning! over $1000 to fix. it is a defect. please google this year and "heater" you will find many many websites with exact complaints. gm needs to acknowledge this and fix at no charge! *tr
The heating control on my vehicle has malfunctioned. the problem is permanent. there is no internal heat. as i live in a winter climate, the lack of heat with my blower has made defrosting my vehicle difficult to impossible. upon further research, this exact problem has been diagnosed with at least several hundred vehicles of my make and model. the problem is a heating door mechanism that controls hot and cold. a local mechanic stated that chevrolet would not provide a non-dealership the part to fix it. chevrolet fails to acknowledge this as any safety concern. the dealership is offering to repair it for $1000. *tr
Just purchased a used 2006 chevy equinox. second day of driving, turned on heat to get the chill out of the air. heat did not work. immediately contacted the dealer about this problem. they have had the vehicle over a week now. *tr
I have a 2006 chevrolet equinox lt 3.4l awd and everything worked fine, i did not use my heater allsummer long. i turned it on as of 10/10/2010 and there was no heat at all. it was only cold air. i heard this is a very common issue and in some areas can be considered a safety risk. i live in the midwest where during winter, there is always frost on windows. if i do not have heat to defrost windows or get ice and snow off, this causes a risk. and putting hot or warm water on the window risks cracking the window. thanks for hearing me and this safety risk, it would be very nice to have this recalled as it is a common issue and is over $1000 to fix. *tr
In oct 2010 the heat stopped working on my 2006 chevy equinox. at first i thought the problem might have been caused by air getting into the cooling system lines, because the coolant level in the reservoir had gotten a bit low. but adding coolant and trying to "burp" the system didn't fix the problem. upon searching the web, i discovered that quite a few people had the same no-heat problem with the chevy equinox and pontiac torrent (which is the same vehicle platform). it turns out the problem is caused by a small "door" that allows air to flow past the heater core. apparently this "air temperature blend door" has a plastic connecting shaft to an electric motor, and the shaft is prone to breaking after a few years. the trouble is... replacing this little part is not easy. it involves removing much of the dashboard, which takes a long time. consequently, the cost to repair this problem at a gm dealer is around $1,000, give or take a few hundred bucks. *tr
2006 chevy equinox blowing cold air. dealership said plastic door part is broken that controls direction of cool or hot air. $50.00 part $1200.00 labor to remove dash to fix, not under warrenty. safety issue, moisture builds up on inside of windshield and freezes. *tr
I have a 2006 chevy equinox and the heater has stopped working. the defroster does not work and according to the dealer it will cost atleast $1000 to repair a blend door that seems to be defective in alot of these vehicles. seems to me that gmc should pay the price since so many are having this same problem. *tr
the problem with the temp. door not working is if you need to defog or defrost your windows and the heat won't work you cant see. and you don't know when this will happen. thank god i was just trying to take the chill out of my vehicle on a cool fall evening, no matter what i did no heat. stop to get gas, started the truck....... heat came on, now it won't go off. *tr
Last summer the ac in my car started to act weird, i just had bought the car and didn't think much of it for a while. then, after having my daughter and having her get over heated because the ac was freezing up i decided to take it to a repair place that told me that there was a plastic versus a metal arm that opens a door that allows the cold and hot air flow to go through my car and that it needed to be replaced with in fact a metal one. this was going to cost me a lot of money, roughly 1000-1500 dollars of which i do not have, since summer was nearly over i decided it was not that critical and i drove other family members vehicles if i had a long way to drive so my baby didn't over heat in her car seat. now as of today my heat isn't working, it is freezing outside and once again the safety of my child is at risk because she is cold. i have read tons of complaints online and reviews hat tons of people with the same car are having the same problem and that the metal arm replacement part is very cheap but that the labor is through the rood. i cannot afford the labor and i cannot afford my child to be over heated or freezing because chevy/gm decided to be cheap and use a plastic piece instead of metal to save a buck or two. i want this to be recalled, this is affecting hundreds if not thousands of people who have gotten a 2006 equinox. i would like something done about this as soon as possible because i cannot continue to put my child in an unsafe and uncomfortable environment. *tr
Truck lost speed without warning while driving in traffic. engine cuts off while driving. truck can be working one minute and you park and come back and nothing it would start and have to be tow and this has happen to me three times in the last 5 months. the elec system always have something wrong with it. running at 55 mph and a semi-tractor trailer behind you with your three small grand children in the back and the truck just lost it speed with no warning is a frightening thing to happening. i have replaced the battery, the started, and now the lower cooler fan is out the elec. system just keep breaking down back to back and i hardly even drive it only to doctor appointments and to do my shopping. *tr
2006 equinox blend door prematurely malfunctions and renders defogger and heaters useless impairing the vision and safety of the driver, passengers and public safety. please review the 100's of complaints from the links i listed below. thank you so much for your time! http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/chevrolet-equinox/tnmhvcte76u9hgth4 http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2006/chevrolet/equinox/window+defroster http://www.carcomplaints.com/chevrolet/equinox/2006/ac_heater/heat_blows_out_cold_air.shtml http://www.web2carz.com/797/2006/chevrolet/equinox/reviews/overview#addreview. *tr
My 2006 chevy equinox starting blowing cold air in 2009. i took the car to my mechanic and discovered a plastic piece known as the blend door assembly is stuck or broken and it will cost over $1000 to repair. without heat my windows will not defrost and it is a safety issue. i went to a site (http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/chevrolet-equinox/tnmhvcte76u9hgth4/p5) and found hundreds of gm owners are having the same problem. please forced gm to recall this item. *tr
I have a 2006 chevy equinox that i bought brand new. i've had multiple problems with it. the first was issues with it not wanting to start. at that point it was still under warranty, and the dealership replaced the ignition. the problem has continued throughout the four years that i've had it, and now occurs almost every time i start my car. i've also had the heater blow cold air, and the dealer replaced blower door and actuator. i contacted gm, who agreed to pay half of the cost. that was in january of 2009. since then, i've had multiple issues as well with the key getting "stuck" in the ignition. usually after about 10 minutes of moving steering wheel back and forth, it will finally come out. this happened mostly this past summer when it was really hot outside. i've also heard clicking noises coming from the passenger side randomly when i turn my car right after my car has been parked and running for awhile. another issue is revving up for no reason. both times i was sitting at a stop light and then started to turn left and car revs up and seems to get stuck in gear then eventually kicks out. after reading the other reports, i am now scared that the next issue is going to be my car shutting down while i'm driving down the highway. i work in home health, therefore i am driving my car all day everyday. i also have a toddler and worry about his safety in my vehicle. *tr
2006 chevy equinox has problems starting. have to push gas pedal to even get it to start at times. this has been an issue since we bought the car in dec of 2007 with 32,000 miles on it. second day after we had car the check engine light came on so we brought it in. after that is when the starting issues started have brought it to the dealer 3 different times and the issue will not duplicate itself for them so there is not an issue to them. *tr
The same problem has been occurring for over a year. where i go to start my car, my key turns over but the engine never kicks on. its makes an odd noise, not grinding but a noise. it takes about 6-7 times before the vehicle will kick on. once it finally starts there is black smoke and fluid coming out of the exhaust pipe. the rpm's rev up to 8k than down to 4k, the car idles and sounds like it wants to die. i have brought my car back and forth to the dealership 6 times since april 15, 2008. so far nothing has been done and they state the car is up to gm standards. i have wasted much time and money into this issue and soon the car will be out of warranty. i have a feeling that once the warranty is up that they will charge me an arm and leg to get it fixed. i have a 2006 chevrolet equinox will a little bit under 34k miles. *tr
I also had issues with my cd player. after inserting cd the player window announced for me to insert a disc. i ejected and tried again. still it would not identify the cd as being loaded. i tried original cd's (brand new 1st time being played & older) as well as homemade copied cd's. none would read. this was only 5 months after purchased brand new. the cd player never worked again, however the radio did work fine. the dealer completely replaced the entire radio/cd/mp3 player after inspecting & found "internal failure". *tr
My 2006 chevy equinox has trouble starting. the problem used to be intermittent, but has become more regular over the years. i have taken it to three different dealers to diagnose and they say there is no problem or they were unable to duplicate the issue. when the problem occurs it will only start if you hold the gas pedal to the floor. otherwise, it will just crank and then turn off. i have seen many complaints about this online and found that the 2005 equinox seemingly has the same problem and was issued a recall. i work hard to pay the bills and need someone to acknowledge the problem that these vehicles sre having. *tr
I have a 2006 chevy equinox company vehicle. on thursday the 26th of october, i had to change a flat tire on the passengers front. the vehicle was on level ground. while the car was in the raised position, i removed the flat and proceeded to replace it with the spare. as i was doing so, the scissor jack collapsed by bending over in half. on nov. 1st, i went to sale automotive in kinston, nc. to show them the jack. they ordered me a new one. i still have the old jack until the new one comes in. *nm
I have had my equinox for almost 4 months. i can't play a cd in the cd player. it starts to play and then skips and won't play the cd. i have tried playing a variety of cd's and i can't get them to work. it has worked up to this point. but now it won't work at all. it spits out the cd after it skips and won't play. anyone else have this happen? *jb
