In late june i started to notice a musty smell every time i entered my car. however after searching for the source i could find nothing as the smell continued to lingure and become worse. then when cleaning out the vehicle for vacation i discovered a buildup of water in the spare tire compartment, the padding between the body and tire was completely saturated with water. i have no idea how this occurred but quickly turned to the internet to search for a recall, only to find numerous complaints about the same problem with no answer as to how to stop the issue. *tr
Front driver door will not open from the inside. *tr
I was driving to the store when the glove box popped open and the contents came out. the striker bracket that holds the glove box shut broke off at the point where its attached to bolts. *tr
Water seeped in under sun roof, down front driver side roof pillar and then into car behind dashboard then dripped down into computer control device (where obdii unit hooks up) where it shorted out entire electrical system. i was going down a hill into town where speed is 45 mph and my sister in law was in car and we were heading to airport however engine just shut down. brakes and steering became really much more difficult to control. we coasted to a stop and after 15 mins car started up but with significantly diminished power so i drove into a service station where car stayed for next 2-days. i discovered what shut car down when i started squirting water onto roof at a car wash and water started dripping down onto carpet flooring but first it seeped into computer control unit. i waited out drying of unit and then drove home and applied a lot caulk to sunroof where glass meet metal/rubber. car exterior roof now looks terrible as caulk dried sort of a brown crud color (car is white) but no more (knock on wood) engine stalling when it rains or i go through a car wash. makes me very nervous when on road and in rain. *tr
my 2005 equinox is leaking water into the interior of the vehicle. i get a lot of water collected in the spare tire area and a lot of water in the rear floorboards. since my driveway is on an incline it is difficult to tell where the leak is coming in at. i also have noticed the water drips out of the overhead lights when i brake. i have been to two different mechanics and they both have ruled out a sunroof drainage issue since the area is clear. i have seen quite a few complaints about the same problem i am having, and i am not sure what steps to take at this point since it is clearly a problem with the vehicle and not wear and tear. with numerous complaints why hasn't there been a recall since the issue is not an uncommon occurrence? *tr

I have a 2005 chevrolet equinox that leaks water into the spare tire compartment whenever it rains or vehicle goes through car wash. i have seen several gallons and it sloshes around and saturates the carpet in the back floorboard. gm has a bulletin 2198426 whereas it acknowledges that the vehicle was not sealed properly at the factory and water will collect in the spare tire compartment but will not fix unless the customer(me) pays. i can smell the mold and mildew in my vehicle and feel this can only be bad for my health because we are talking about continuous mold regeneration. i have talked to local dealership and called gm about this problem and they want me to pay to fix. i have searched the internet and all years between 2005 and 2007 are listed and many many complaints. *tr
hopefully i can find a solution to the problem with my wife's 2005 equinox. i believe this is a know problem with water leaking around the luggage rack all equinoxes , the spare tire area fills up with water and runs over the floorboard when you hit the brakes i have contacted various people with no results. except that it's my problem and will cost $800.00 to repair. this summer i noticed that the interior windows on my wife's car were fogging up the carpet in the back seat was wet. i thought my daughter left the windows down, then one day my daughter hit the brakes hard one day and 5 gallons of water rolled from the back seat to the firewall. when they got home i removed the trunk area covers and found 2 to 3 gallons of water in the spare tire well .removed the water and air dried the carpet . now every time it rains the area fills up and i remove it , this has been a wet year. reported the problem to the priority chevy dealer on military highway and various emails to gm /chevy customer service online, talked to wayne in the service department and billy boyle in the body shop at priority chevy. they both told me they never heard of a problem with leaking into the spare tire area on 2005 equinox. wayne said they don't do water repairs and referred me to walt's waterworks in chesapeake for the repairs, when i called them they said they are booked 2 weeks out and that they had two equinoxes in the shop for the same issue, the main reason for going to priority chevy , they performed a repair to the car last year after a collision my wife was in . they repaired the rear bumper area and didn't inform me of any water problems then. my wife took the car to billy on the 22 dec 09 at 1600 to let him look at it the area, i reported this to chevy customer service , i worked with carlos ( 1-800-222-1020, / 866-962-2868 ,service request # 71-787470750) there until he passed it up to his regional manager who called me on christmas eve to tell ...
I own a 2005 chevy equinox. the first week in october, i noticed my floor boards were very damp. on october 30, 2009, i got into my vehicle and found almost 2' of standing water in the front driver/passenger and back passenger floor boards. the floor board had been wet in the past, but never to this extent. we had several days of rainfall that accumulated over 10". as of monday, november 2nd, my vehicle was diagnosed by a chevrolet dealership as follows; a seam under the luggage rack that was not properly welded and is allowing any water to leak in to the d pillar of my vehicle and is collecting in bottom of the floor boards and surfacing through the carpet. this is not a 'wear and tear' situation; this is a structural problem that happened on the assembly line during the manufacturing of this vehicle. my children and i have been breathing in black mold and mildew due to this defect over several months if not years. the seam needs to be welded properly and the carpet needs to be completely replaced. there is black mold visible. this is my only vehicle and means for transportation for me and my children. i drive this vehicle every day to and from work. i experience head aches every single day and fear that being in the small area of my vehicle with all of this black mold is the primary source. general motors is refusing to take responsibility because my vehicle is a 2005 and not under warranty. this is not wear and tear, this is a structural problem from the day the car was manufactured. after much research there are hundreds if not thousands of complaints online from equinox owners for this same problem, saturated floor boards and several inches of standing water in the spare tire compartment. general motors needs to fix this issue and we should not be responsible for the cost. we bought this vehicle with the belief it was made with general motors top quality and service and it is clearly a mistake on their part. *tr
The drivers side window would not operate up or down. sometimes the widow would go up or down on its own, without operating the switch. the wiring harness in the door was found to be defective. the wires were broken and exposed at the hinge joint. the electrical system was shorting out. *tr
I am experiencing serious water leaks in my 2005 chevrolet equinox awd lt. whenever it rains, water accumulates in the spare tire well and overflows onto the floor under the rear seats. it also creates a disturbing short out of the speaker system. the carpet smells and i am very concerned about mold, as well as fire from the electrical shorting out. another issue is that it causes the windows to fog up, especially when i run the heater to try to dry it out. *tr
The hydraulic pumps that hold the back hatch open(up) on my equinox just quit working with out any warning . the hatch is so heavy i can't use it there is no safe way of holding up the hatch to put anything into the back of the car. i'm looking into buying a new set ,one for both sides of the vehicle .if i find them i will keep the old ones.,until i hear otherwise .. if i attempt to open the hatch, its slams down very hard because the hatch itself is so heavy . if a child happen to be near the hatch when it goes down they could be hurt very badly as could an adult. i no long can open the hatch as its too heavy to lift . the info on the pumps is stabilus usa gastonia nc 28052 5480869 4992rq0830n 007105 b20 *tr
Rear hatch 'pumps' stopped working. one could lose a limb or become decapitated. therefore, the rear section of car is not usable, nor can one clean the inside of the rear window. i do not feel that this is the kind of thing that the owner should have to be responsible for repairing. i have never had (out of many gm lift back vehicles) this type of thing happen. *tr
I bought my car brand new with 4 miles on it. i have been the only owner. since i purchased my vehicle i have had to have the fuel pump replaced in 2007 ($1400). my car has been in the shop numerous times for costly repairs. my key comes out of the ignition while driving, and it is hard to start. i have to wiggle the key every other time i try to start my car. i've also had problems with my car starting. when i go to crank it up it sounds likes it tries to start then dies. this happens often. my car is not in the shop due to water leakage. there a large collection of water with my spare tire, and the floor in the back seat is soaked. i was told from the gm service department they see this often in my model vehicle but no recall for it at this time so it's out of my own pocket. also i have taken my vehicle to the dealer several times for my steering wheel. it makes a loud sound every time the wheel is turned and they cannot seem to fix the problem. i have had to replace my headlights and brake lights very often. *tr
I was traveling on a major highway (rte 495 s). i suddenly heard a loud noise and felt a jolt. i thought that i had gotten a flat tire, so i proceeded to pull into the break down lane. the car was idling fine but made a horrible scraping noise when moving. my mechanic informed me the bolts supporting my engine block had snapped and the only thing holding the engine was my axle ' hence the awful scraping noise. my car is less than 3 years old and has approximately 30k miles - i would think a part as important as the bolts supporting my engine block should last longer. i have all parts that were replaced. *tr
The back floorboard of my car has been noticably wet for a few months. my car is out of warranty so i began researching online to see what might be the problem. the seals around the doors were fine. i did find 3" of water laying in my spare tire compartment. there is no drain hole for the water to be removed. the water is coming in from the tail lights. the dealership i purchased the equinox from simply laughed at the problem and said it would cost over $200 to replace just the tail light. the smell inside of the vehicle is horrible. it is obviously rusting the body and causing mold and mildew inside the vehicle. *tr
Severe water leak in 2005 chevrolet equinox awd lt. when operating the vehicle in rain conditions, water accumulates in the spare tire well and overflows onto the floor of the vehicle, even up to the front . it also shorts out the speaker system which crackles and blares out a loud noise even when the radio is turned off. the carpeting becomes soaked when this happens and then the vehicle has a foul odor. a phone call to the dealer resulted in an answer that they have no idea what the problem could be. i fear this water is damaging the electrical parts in the speaker system and may result in a fire. this has been going on for at least two years. *tr
I am experiencing an extremely strong mildew smell inside my equinox. it is so strong people comment outside the car. the smell also penetrates clothing so that others notice the smell. people will not ride in my car. i have had it to the dealer twice. both times the odor improves slightly (they depdorize the hvac) but still others comment. i am concerned about driving my 3 year old b/c of the smell. we have found no visible wetness or mold. the rubber around two windows was loose but the dealer did not find water inside the door. the smell does not seem to be coming from the vents but mores so just from the car. *nm
2005 chevy equinox water leak in rear of vehicle. accumulates in wheel well and interior carpet is staining and producing an odor. dealership was unable to locate problem or resolve the issue. still exist. seems like a factory defect that they are not taking responsibility for, or recognizing. presented itself around the 50,000 mile range. *tr
Cd player broke, water soaking floor boards twice causing mold & mildew. complete loss of radiator fluid, loss of engine power while driving twice. unusual wear of tires. rubbing in steering column when turning, knocking sound when turning slowly to the right, a/c not cooling efficiently. *nm
Dt*: the contact stated while driving at various speeds with the rear windows down, the air thumps and pounds through the vehicle. this causes discomfort to the contact's ears. the dealership and manufacturer determined this is how the vehicle was manufactured. *ak updated 5/2/2006 - *nm
Driving down street cut off by semi ran into flashing sign with nowhere else to go. over half passenger front bumper was crushed radiator smashed, whole front passenger quarter smashed. car was undriveable but air bags did not go off. *tr
The liftgate support rod detached while in the up position allowing the liftgate to fall freely on my head and neck. if i was in another position or if i didn't react quickly i might have been seriously injured or killed. it seems the liftgate supports are not strong enough or attached properly. the other support rod didn't have enough strength to hold the door up.
Contact stated that the cup holder is blocking the emergency brake. *ak *sc *jb
Dt: the tailgate collapsed due to the left strut not providing enough lift. the tailgate stayed up for a little while then came down rapidly on my husband's hand.
