There are two issues with this equinox. the first, is the key sometimes locks on the ignition and i cannot turn the vehicle on nor turn the key - it completely locks leading to anxiety and frustration because it will take several attempts at trying to put the key in or even trying to pull it out of the ignition. this has been an ongoing issue since we first bought this vehicle. the second issue is the back door/hatch of the 2005 equinox does not open/unlock. the only way to access back area is to lower back seat and climb to back area. vehicle waswas stationary when we first noticed problem. lots of complaints online about others having the same issue. why wasn't this issue made into a recall issue? why do i have to pay $150-$200 (according to some complaints online) or more out of my own pocket to get this issue resolved? i can't even sell the vehicle because i disclose these issues to potential buyers and right away they get discouraged and walk away. what am i supposed to do with this car now?
Our chevrolet equinox 2005 is shifting hard down shift and upshift but doesn't show any recalls on them which there should since there is problems and another vehicle someone else owns is a chevrolet equinox 2008 model is also shifting hard it's a seriuse problem it could cause a wreck due possibility something locking up on it also at times when you try and start it the starter trys to stay engaged have to try several times before it starts right please check into the issues before some gets seriously hurt please!! also theres been electrical issues on windows and also theres leaks from oil not for sure if it's a engine issue or not but it could get check to please check all on the chevrolet equinoxs please before something seriously happens to someone or us it happens when driving it anywhere
Vehicle will stall during operation or at idle. tsb 05539 covers this issue for earlier vin numbers. this needs to be expanded to include additional vin numbers for later production effected by the same problem.vehicle will restart after several attempts, but may fail again in as few as five minutes or run as long as an hour.
Takata recall: i bought my chevy equinox in august of 2017, since taking it home it has had a lurching problem when driving or when stopped at a red light. it lurches forward and backwards like a bull trying to throw you off. i put new brakes on every 3 months because my brakes do not work even when brand new, and when i press the brake the car won't stop, or the brake pulses and vibrates. the cars gear shift sometimes gets stuck in drive when trying to put it in park. when trying to drive and the gas is pressed you hear a grinding, and the gas vibrates. i've had to abs sensor replaced 4x, o2 sensor 3x new brakes every 3 months, new tires every 6 months, regular oil changes, it's had it's valves replaced, it's had new brake lines, new shocks, regular alignments, it's had a new catalytic converter put in. the cars rpm spikes to 8000 when doing 30 miles an hour through a small town. the wheel vibrates when on a highway abs light never comes off. t/c turns off anytime i make a turn. check engine light is i swear permantly on. . i've been told this can be a transmission and gear shift problem, but that all 3 of my regular mechanics call this problem the ghost problem, because they can't figure it out and always tell me to not drive it that it's not safe to drive but it's my only vehicle and i am 5 months pregnant and cannot afford a new car right now. this car is unsafe and needs to be evaluated.
Acceleration is weak, possible fumes and emissions
Lock cylinder gets stuck and prevents vehicle from being started. only after several minutes of jiggling the lock mechanism does the key turn. the steering wheel lock also does not engage.
Ignition : key gets stuck in ignition. ignition switch is faulty.
I purchased this vehicle today. 12/26/16. drove home. about 10 minutes from my house. the temp gauge goes to the red. i wait about 45 min. i take it back to the dealership. they asked me to leave it overnight. after reading several complaints. can't you all do something about this? seems to be the common thing with the type of coolant that is used in these vehicles.
As i turn the ignition to start the car, smoke comes out of columns between column and steering wheel
My family with a newborn and i was going to get ice cream at a establishment. mind you it was a very hot day, and upon leaving we couldn't leave because the key wouldn't turn over. the key was stuck in the lock position only. i believe the ignition cylinder isn't any good.

Seat belt light is on when driver is buckled, abs and traction control light came on, replaced brakes and front drivers side wheel bearing, bearing was previously replaced 3/2014. have had to replace wheel bearings and struts in the front about every 6 months. just replaced front passenger side in 3/2015. today same noise coming from front end, need front passenger side bearing replaced after 2 months.
Check engine like on. engine temperature too low causing the heat not to work. replaced thermostat and seals.

I had to have my battery replaced today. my battery had to be replaced due to the ignition switch that is not completely turned off when i put the car in park. for a year or so i have been able to drive down the road and my cars key has been removable from the ignition switch. i have asked about the ignition switch before to my dealership over the years with no resolve. since the recall of other gm models during the same year my car was made recently i have read over these issues and my equinox is having the same issue. i do not have to put my car in park for the key to be taken out of the ignition switch. now my battery is being compromised due to it not completely being able to shut off. *tr
February of 2014 i spent 1011.48 to replace a gasket between the engine block and the radiator, which i was told was made of plastic. this was suppose to solve the overheating of my engine, however the problem did not stop and i am being told that the heater core now needs to be replaced which will cost me another $800-$900. in all the complaints written by other owners this seems to be a common issue with the equinox. i have no heat in the vehicle, the front defrost only fogs the windshield and it consistently overheats which in turn activates the fan which i suspect will stop work soon due to overworking. this is my only means of transportation for me and my children and is a danger in the winter months. i honestly love this truck, but if this a common problem or recall issue it need to be remedied now. *tr

Key comes out of the ignition while the car is running, can take the key in and out out of the ignition while the car is driving, does not turn the car off. also sometimes the steering wheel does not lock and prevents you from being able to start the car.
I bought this equinox in march 2013. whenever it rains i have standing water in the floor in the front and back floors. there is also moisture on the inside of the windows. i have seen online that this is a common problem. can anything be done about this? *tr
We had several inches of rain, i went to get in my car from work to go home and the car was an inch deep in the floor boards. i could not tell where this water actually came from. i was very upset, this was after 5:00 pm on a friday so needless to say i did not call insurance company until the following week. i had not left any windows down because it had rained all week. i spoke with a chevrolet dealer not the dealer i bought the car new from, they are no longer in business. he informed me that we needed to gut the car and dry it out first in order to determine where the water was leaking in at. i spoke with my ins. agent and asked would this be covered and she did not know. she called her state farm office and returned a call back to me. she stated that an adjuster in the office told her that my insurance would pay for the drying out of my car, but would not pay for the mechanical issue. i was given a claim no. i called the adjuster and she set up a rental car and told me that the check would be payable to me and i would pay the dealership. this was on a wednesday, on friday i received a call from the agent who stated to me that they would not pay anything because this vehicle was known for multiple leaks. i was told one thing then another. i was very frustrated and called gm to complain to them that it should have been a recall if this was an issue with this model. they were going to call me back and never another word from them. i explained to ins. and to gm, and also to the insurance commission that this was a hazard on the road due to the fact that the car was fogging up from inside and i had ice on the inside of the car due to cold weather.i would like to know if you can help me with this ongoing problem. i am sending all documentation regarding this issue. *tr ## vin passed ##
You can't always turn the key it just wont turn you have t keep trying and hope you can get it to turn. thought it might be the key so i tried the other key that came with the car same thing some times it will work and other times you have keep trying and the key will come half way out of the ignition
2005 chevrolet equinox. consumer writes in regards to parts changes *tgw the consumer stated the dealer is trying to charge a large amount of money to repair a small pipe. the consumer was informed she would have to purchase the entire part which she didn't need.
Speedometer failed to give an accurate reading. radio faded in and out. after around a minute of this occurring the vehicle lost power and slowed down and did not regain power even with the gas pedal pressed. the vehicle was safely brought to the side of the road, turned off and attempted to drive the vehicle again. after about 1 mile or less the vehicle again did the same thing and was towed to a mechanic.

2005 chevy equinox. current miles approx 85,000. was rear ended in may 2010. the car was repaired and returned in june 2010. within approximately 2 weeks, found noticeable grinding noises from brakes, low to null braking ability. abs and tracking lights are on. in june, dealer found abs sensor and steering column were broken. dealer said it was a result of recent car accident but several insurance adjusters have said the accident was too minor to cause such damage and believe it is manufacturer defect. no insurance company will touch this claim. they believe it is a known defect in gmc parts. *tr

The driver side window does not work properly and it chooses when to go up and down and also i would have to open the door in order to work the window. also the stalls on numerous occasion to start. the brakes are brand new and a problems still occurs when trying to stop it shakes even when going a low speed. *tr
I have had numerous problems with my 2005 awd chevy equinox, including the head gaskets blowing, losing acceleration on the 270/highway, ongoing acceleration problems, and other problems which still continue. i have begged for chevy to help get the car fully repaired and the customer service representatives just keep telling me to bring it into the dealer. i've tried two dealers and returned to the purchasing dealer who will only make repairs if they can pull a code - they report i am having problems with my spark plug wires - first they reattached it, and then replaced one but car still doesn't drive as it did before head gaskets blew. please, please help me - i've had my car in the shop 8 times in 4 months and the dealer and chevy will not provide me with an extended warranty - car warranty ends in 6 months or help repair properly. i am scared to drive this car and don't know what to do as they don't take my concerns seriously as the only way they diagnose is by pulling codes. *tr

I am experiencing an extremely strong mildew smell inside my equinox. it is so strong people comment outside the car. the smell also penetrates clothing so that others notice the smell. people will not ride in my car. i have had it to the dealer twice. both times the odor improves slightly (they depdorize the hvac) but still others comment. i am concerned about driving my 3 year old b/c of the smell. we have found no visible wetness or mold. the rubber around two windows was loose but the dealer did not find water inside the door. the smell does not seem to be coming from the vents but mores so just from the car. *nm

2005 chevrolet equinox transmission constantly fails to hold vehicle in place when stopped or parked.*mr the vehicle rolled forward when placed in reverse and must be stopped from rolling forward by stepping on the brake or steeping on the gas pedal. the consumer smelled burning rubber in or around the front console, there was extreme heat from the engine, on the front hood and in the engine compartment, heat on the front windshield dashboard and the rear tail gate area. the consumer was told the heat he was feeling was from natural sources. the front side window and door supports interfered with the consumers vision. the doors constantly creak and make loud noises when opened. the back head rests impair the rear window visibility. *jb
