Bought a new 2005. 2 months after warranty went out the ignition messed. have to wiggle the key to get it to turn. two months later the heat/ac blower control switch went out. at 120,000 miles leaking lower intake manifold gasket, fixed that. 3 months later blown head gasket, found bad fuel injector while fixing that. 6 days after all that was fixed the pcm/ecm went out, still at shop as i type. wonder what is next. i have always owned gm products, but i believe this is my last one. i have been told by two mechanics that the bearing in motor will now go bad since water got in oil twice from leaking gaskets. 3 mechanics told me this motor is known for blown head gaskets and leaking lowing intake manifold gaskets. online there is talk of a recall on the pcm/ecm but dealership says no recall. *tr

I purchase this vehicle in 2005 and the rear defog has stopped working. i checked the fuse and relay for this circuit and everything looks fine. there seems no short in the defog wire. it seems to be a hvac module issue. *tr
My car a/c blows hot air unless i am travelling long distances down the road, heat sometimes does not work in the winter and i have to pull off the road, turn the vehicle off and then back on to get heater to work. also while cranking the car it doesn't want to turn over at times unless i stomp on the gas pedal. this happens around twice a week. freon is ok in my car and nobody can find the problem for a/c or the reason it sometimes won't turn over without giving it gas first. its highly unsafe to have an air temp door not work properly as it won't defrost during the winter and won't blow cold during the summer. *tr
2005 chevrolet equinox passenger window will not come down and drivers window sometimes will not come down. have to pull up or down with hand.. the ignition does not lock and the vehicle will run without the key in it. *tr
hopefully i can find a solution to the problem with my wife's 2005 equinox. i believe this is a know problem with water leaking around the luggage rack all equinoxes , the spare tire area fills up with water and runs over the floorboard when you hit the brakes i have contacted various people with no results. except that it's my problem and will cost $800.00 to repair. this summer i noticed that the interior windows on my wife's car were fogging up the carpet in the back seat was wet. i thought my daughter left the windows down, then one day my daughter hit the brakes hard one day and 5 gallons of water rolled from the back seat to the firewall. when they got home i removed the trunk area covers and found 2 to 3 gallons of water in the spare tire well .removed the water and air dried the carpet . now every time it rains the area fills up and i remove it , this has been a wet year. reported the problem to the priority chevy dealer on military highway and various emails to gm /chevy customer service online, talked to wayne in the service department and billy boyle in the body shop at priority chevy. they both told me they never heard of a problem with leaking into the spare tire area on 2005 equinox. wayne said they don't do water repairs and referred me to walt's waterworks in chesapeake for the repairs, when i called them they said they are booked 2 weeks out and that they had two equinoxes in the shop for the same issue, the main reason for going to priority chevy , they performed a repair to the car last year after a collision my wife was in . they repaired the rear bumper area and didn't inform me of any water problems then. my wife took the car to billy on the 22 dec 09 at 1600 to let him look at it the area, i reported this to chevy customer service , i worked with carlos ( 1-800-222-1020, / 866-962-2868 ,service request # 71-787470750) there until he passed it up to his regional manager who called me on christmas eve to tell ...
2005 chevy equinox - the heater/front defogger stopped working due to gm blend door or heater actuator valve failure issue. due to this failure it is impossible to drive the car on cold mornings or evening, due to the poor visibility created by the inability to defog the front windshield. fortunately we live in houston, tx, so the car is only dangerous to drive three months out of the year. in the research i have done on the web, there are hundreds, likely thousands of these cars with the exact same issue. also, i noticed that gm has recalled the 2010 version of the same car for an issue with the same result, poor visibility due to the failing defogger. *tr
I have a leaking head gasket, i bought this equinox 6 months ago and its 1,200.00 to fix it at the dealer ship. i just paid 306.00 to replace the motor in the driver's side window. front end makes lots of noises. *tr
Crack developed in 2005 chevy equinox windshield for no apparent reason. it became visible while parked in a parking lot on 12/31/2007, but crack began where windshield meets the car at the bottom of the dash on the driver side. vehicle was 500 miles out of the 36,000 mile warranty for replacement. when chevy service first looked at the car they determined in 2 seconds that it was definitely covered but when they found out the mileage said it was not. had the windshield repaired under the auto insurance policy and the repairman said that there was absolutely no signs of damage to the windshield that would cause it to crack, i.e. debris, rock, etc. and that it was a stress fracture. he further stated that he saw this several times in equinoxes. *tr
The passenger side window 'imploded' in sept. '07 on my 2005 chevy equinox for no apparent reason. the glass was repaired ( through car ins.) and they mentioned (glass doctor) that they've had a lot of glass repairs for equinox. the repairman mentioned that the 'cable' for the window was loose & that the window would no longer go up or down. i had the windshield replaced a few months prior (defect, also-no visible damage) have been checking on 'recalls' for this, but have not found any...just complaints. won't drive it unless i have to for fear of exploding glass. my insurance co. suggested i file a complaint with the dealership, but it was purchased in la & i am now in ga. *tr
I bought the eqinox in the end of february 2005. i noticed a sour smell, and had the dealer clean interior because of the rotten smell. the smell persisted, and the dealer had the coolant system flushed and said that would cure the problem. then , when the weather warmed up and i turned on the vent light steam would come out of the vents and moisture on the window inside. i had the car in the shop again for 5 days, and they said they could not find anything wrong. they had flushed the system again and the smell was still there. two weeks later the engine light came on. i took it back to the originals dealer, and they determined the heater core was gone and they replaced it and seemed to run fine , except it seemed to run hot and would leave a large puddle. i complained, but the dealer told me that it was normal, and that all was okay. last month in may 2007 every time i stopped the temperature gauge would climb so the dealer replaced the thermostat. 3 weeks later the gauge would hit red every time i would stop at a light. i brought it back again this time they said the head gaskets were shot. i contacted chevrolet, and they were supposed to gave me the parts, but it still cost $918.00 since now i was out of warranty. i have spoken to several mechanics, and they claimed the engine heads warped due to the heater core problems in the beginning, and that if i had a private repairman repair the gaskets the job would have coasted $1000, and chevrolet did not give me any real break.*ak
Bought the car used with 20,000 and it was having problems a week later. passenger window would not roll up,grinding and clicking at slow turns. they replaced rotors ,clutch and suspension and the problem was solved. then came the air condition not blowing cold air and the ignition sticking on start up. the final straw was the transmission slipping and dropping into lower gears, the car will be in the shop in the morning. last chevy i will ever buy back to nissan. *jb
My driver side window will not go up or down, it just failed completely. the dealership advised that the wires inside the door are completely broken. the system needed to fix it is back ordered so i have to wait to have it replaced. four days later my brakes became the new problem. on my way to school, i was approaching a stop light and began applying the brakes but the car would not stop. it made a vibrating noise and thrust itself forward. it wasn't a grinding sound but clicks and vibration. luckily there wasn't anyone in front of me or coming from the opposite direction. i thought it something i did and continued driving carefully. at the next stop i was unable to slow down to make a right hand turn. i passed the turn completely before the car slowed enough to turn. this scared me so i pulled over and called for help. after taking a test drive with a car repair person who informed me it wasn't my brake pads or rotors. he said it sounded like my anti-lock system failing and i should call the dealership. i called the dealership and they said to bring it in. gm roadside assistance towed it. that was saturday and today is monday, the dealership worker told me she drove it and she has been driving for 12 years and she didn't have a problem with the brakes but they will put it on the electric diagnostic machine to double check it. i am afraid to drive with my children. the fact that the car may not stop or the brakes may fail at any time is scary. i should hear from them by this evening. *jb
Driver side window fails to correctly go up at times. seams to be off track. dealership recommended replacing several parts to correct the issue, at a high cost. currently, problem is unresolved, as i am avoiding the expense. also, key often gets stuck, jammed in the ignition, requires use of a flathead screwdriver to remove plastic ring around key, and excessive wiggling of key to remove it from the ignition. dealership found no issue, suggested key was bent. still occurs with a new key. vehicle fails to start at times. when key is turned it produces a cranking sound. similar to a starter going out or the sound of someone holding the key after the truck starts. requires me to push on the accelerator to start truck. no issue found by dealership. *tr
Tensioner, pulley& fan belts failures...driver side window-defect..windows freezes will not go up,when up will not go down.. *tr
The post on windshield are to big. creates blind spots when going around curves or pulling out into traffic at certain angles. *tr
Dt*: the contact stated there were numerous problems with the vehicle. first, the engine would intermittently not crank. the dealer replaced the battery however, this did not correct the problem. second, while depressing the brake pedal the vehicle intermittently did not slow down. the brake pedal was pumped several times to get the brakes to activate correctly. third, the transmission revved high and intermittently did not change gears correctly while driving. fourth, the abs lamp illuminated intermittently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the abs lamp was reset. lastly, the front passenger window was rolled down and would not rise back up. the dealer replaced the window regulator and the window was repaired. the vehicle was repeatedly taken to the dealer and addressed the problems that could be duplicated and made appropriate repairs. hard start/hesitation and almost stalling. also, determined speed sensor was causing reduced power. *ak
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated that the windshield is recessive. when it snows and the windshield wipers are activated, a thick amount of snow will accumulate on the windshield, which causes a huge blind spot. to remove the snow from the windshield, the contact has to periodically exit the vehicle and manually remove the snow. she called the manufacturer, but never received a response. the vin and engine size were unknown. the failure mileage was 500 and current mileage was 27,000.
Windhield presented a stress crack - dealership repaired. two weeks later, another crack appeared on new windshield, dealer stated windshied crack was not a stress crack, just a coincidence. dealership also noted windshield was very difficult to replace.*ak
Dt: water was leaking into cab of vehicle and into trunk. water leak iwas in front dome light, and it leaked twice. the middle dome light leaked once, and the trunk has had a big bucket of water removed from it. dealer tried to fix leak, but it still leaks. caller was told not to park under trees. manufacturer said they would call dealer, and told caller to keep sun ,roof closed and that there was debris in sun roof. caller stated she was concerned about water in the electrical system. and that more damage can be caused.*ak
On each side of the windshield the snow was cleaned off. however, the snow from the roof fell off onto the windshield and was trapped in the windshield pillars. consumer was concerned because he was blinded. *ak
Retained accessory power mode - otherwise known as the ability to put power windows up with a window of time after keys have been removed from the ignition but no doors opened - windows will not operate - but radio and inside light does stay on....owners manual says it should be able to do this......but none of the cars checked at the dealership work like this....i enjoyed this feature in my 2003 trailblazer.....and just wish this car did what the manual says - so far dealership says the manual is often generic and that this must not be a feature of the equinox ---i hope they are wrong and some programming will correct this matter - *ak
Contact states: bought a brand new vehicle in august 2004. the anti-freeze was changed. the anti-freeze was brown and the smell was severe and nauseous. the car has been the shop 9 times with so many different reasons. the antifreeze line wasn't bled right and the antifreeze was leaking in the ground. there was a leak in the dome light and sunroof, the suspension and engine would tick, the horn did not work, there were front end problem, the shifter would stick, there ignition problem, noise when turning the vehicle, gas mileage problem and there was a toxic smell from the anti-freeze, the vehicle over heated, the brakes made noises, the consumer had driven through a car wash, the dome light had filled with water, the lower dash was dripping water and the vehicle would not accelerate vehicle would not accelerate and the engine light had illuminated, the vehicle pulled to the right when driving and when braking, there was poor gas mileage during city driving, there was a loud noises when making turns on the front struts, the front brake rotors were out of round, the shifter would stick, the ignition cylinder was binding, there was popping when the vehicle was started from cold, and the brake pedal would go to the floor. *sc *jb
