My vehicle with 85,000 miles began emmiting a continuous raw gas smell when i refill the fuel tank. smell is coming from the left side, rear, wheel well. smell is intense to the point i cannot store inside the garage as i fear a fire hazard and a toxic smell is coming into my house interior. smell seems to end once fuel level goes below 1/2 full.
Fuel system leak from tank and or fuel pump. car cranks, wont start, strong odor of fuel coming from tank. mostly happens after filling tank and at times while car is in motion.
Gas tank is leaking a lot
I filled up my gas tank and when getting back into the car i noticed a strong gas odor, so strong that i had to roll the windows down in the rain. the smell was especially bad when i came to a stop. i just looked online to see if others are having this problem and it seems this is a major issue with the c6 corvette. this is extremely unsettling, considering many of us park our cars in garages with pilot lights and other sources of spark/flame. i'll be contacting gm.
I smell gas coming from my gas tank, especially after a fillup. the cap has been replaced. no spillage occurs when filling up but yet the smell persists until i get below a half a tank. others in the corvette world who own a c6 corvette have complained of the same thing and have discovered it is due to a faulty seal in between the tank and filler, perhaps the whole assembly. very dangerous fire hazard.
I smell gas after filling up. goes away after the tank is below half full. spoke with other c6 corvette owners with the same problem and it has to do with a faulty gas tank filler cause by plastic parts of the neck filler cracking.
Smell fuel after filllup
Every time i put fuel in the car there is a strong gas smell by the car that lingers for a long time.
3 days ago i filled up my c6 at the gas station and ever since then it has been i very strong smell of gas and it has yet to go away even when the car has not been driven it still smells like gas
I bought this car the other day and on the way home i stopped at the gas station and filled my car up to 3/4 of a tank. when i got home there was a very strong smell of gas coming into the car. i parked in the garage and when i woke up the next morning the smell was unbearable. i have it at the chevy dealership right now having it looked at. i just saw a forum with someone having the same problem and sent me to this link. is this a recall? also the smell is strong at all times driving/parked/idoling
I recently (jan 6, 2018), noticed a very distinct gasoline smell in my garage and around my 2006 corvette. there is no spotting beneath the car. the odor has its strongest concentration in the area near the filler door (driver's side rear wheel well area). i have owned the car for exactly three years and this is the first time this smell has been present. it is very pervasive and definitely gasoline. the fumes are a major safety hazard and this condition is very disconcerting. there are numerous postings on corvette forums and on you tube, that highlight this ongoing problem with early c6 corvettes (2005-2008). i have called chevrolet dealer service departments and they acknowledge that this has been a problem, but that no recall has been issued. the problem is that gasoline is spraying out of the seals and certain plastic hose connections related to the fuel tank, and, or, around the fuel pump and possibly the crossover tube. gasoline "puddles" on top of the gas tank or is caught by the tank shield beneath the tank...thus no spotting under the car. the fumes and the liquid are a major fire danger...both in a stationary garage setting or when the car is in motion, where gasoline would have the potential to ignite on a hot surface such as the exhaust.
tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette. the contact stated that the vehicle emitted a strong fuel odor and while driven the fuel odor penetrated the vehicle interior. in addition, while the vehicle was parked the fuel odor was strong. the dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic whom performed a diagnostic testing, which located a fuel leak at the driver side fuel tank. the contact stated that the mechanic advised that parts located at the top of the fuel tank needed to be replaced. however, the contact did not know the name of the parts that were replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 55,500.
Smell of gas fumes in gararage after sitting overnight. no visible gas leaks
There is an overpowering smell of gasoline coming from the left rear of the car. gasoline smell from the trunk and cabin.
Strong fuel smell when gas tank is more than half full
Smell of gas consistently fills the cabin. i fear it is a crack in the gas tank like multiple others have reported.
Strong fuel smell
Car smells of fuel while sitting with the engine off. from doing research it is a common problem where there is a crack in the top of the fuel pump.
Smell of gas coming from the car, noticed "wet" surfaces under the car at the rear. can smell gas when getting in the car, have noticed this for a few months but i don't drive the vehicle much.
With fuel at 3/4 or full, after going over pot holes or speed bumps etc. i get a raw gas smell that engufs the whole inside of the car,and lasts 5 to ten mins. this has been going on for about the last 6 months. just came off 6500 mile road trip. happened about eevery other day.
Fuel leak bad smell when left i garage 2006 corvett
Strong gas smell when parked in garage especially after running. lasts for days.
Constant gasoline smell in the garage when parked especially when the tank is nearly full. just recently purchased the car and never had a problem like this before. must leave the garage door open or leave the car outside.
After driving my car for a sufficient length of time to get the engine hot (normal driving) and then park it in the garage, a very strong smell of fuel vapor is emitted from the rear area of the car which fills the garage and permeates the house. the odor also invades the car's interior cabin. this dangerous condition was reported to the watson chevrolet dealership in tucson, august, 2015, mileage 67289. after lengthy inspection and communication with gm, certain components were replaced - an expensive repair. the car operated satisfactorily and i observed no more fuel vapors until march 4, 2016, mileage 71448. following a trip of 40 miles, normal city driving, i parked the car in the garage and the same very strong fuel vapors filled the garage. once again, the house was permeated with the odor, which we found necessary to purge, and to remove the car from the garage until the vapor dissipated. i consider this to be a dangerous safety hazard. i've also noted from various corvette forums that many other c6 corvettes have experienced this condition and it maybe a common problem. i believe cars like mine should be recalled for an appropriate fix before an explosion or other unfortunate event occurs. it won't be an accident!
There is a strong smell of gasoline coming from the car. it is difficult to pinpoint the source, but i believe there is a leak from the gas tank area.
Has crack on top of fuel pump spraying gas , smells in cab
Gas vapors rise from the rear wheels following a fill up. does not happen if you only fill it half way. fumes are really bad when vehicle is in the garage. nothing dripped on the ground.
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet corvette. the contact noticed that the vehicle was leaking fuel from the fuel pump. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 36,000.
Bought car on a friday 12/4/2015 fuel leak under drivers side under fuel fill door. strong fumes as well. took back to dealer monday. was told it will be this coming week before a technician can drop the rear suspension to get to the fuel tank. this is why i have only bought asian cars in the past. lexus etc.
I am smelling a strong gasoline odor from the car as it is parked in the garage. it just started at random a few days ago. no visible signs of gas are on the pavement, but the smell is very strong. i am worried about a fire hazard since the exhaust is close by. there are a lot of complaints on the internet of this being a huge problem, but to my knowledge gm is not doing anything about if, my corvette is 9'yrs old but only has 17,000 mile (a garage queen). this problem occurred out of the blue, my gas gauge reads about 5/8 of a tank so it did not happen after a fill up.,,please help.
On august 13, 2015, my 2006 corvette would not shift out of reverse. the car was stuck in that reverse gear and the shift lever was not enabling the selection of another gear. the shifter mechanism on this automatic equipped vehicle was operational, but the linkage to the transmission was no longer engaged. the car was being pulled into the garage when this happened, so fortunately i was not in a busy intersection, in a parking lot, or in some other location where i, or someone else, might have been in harm's way due to a vehicle that i could no longer control. since the car could not be put in neutral or park, i had to turn off the vehicle with it in reverse and use the parking brake to keep the car from moving. since the shifter mechanism could still move, the switch activating the "ok to start" would have allowed the car to start when put in the park or neutral positions - while the transmission was still stuck in reverse; a real safety issue. the cause of the problem was a 50 cent bushing that attaches to the shift lever. this bushing allows the ball end connector of the shifter to engage a shifter cable that actuates the linkage to the transmission. so when that bushing breaks, you can no longer shift the car. this has happened to many, many people owning the generations of c5 (1997-2004) and c6 (2005-2013) corvettes. you can read a sample thread with pictures here: http://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c6-corvette-general-discussion/3482107-c6-automatic-shifter-broken-need-help-replacing-transmission-shifter-module.html or here (and there are many more!) http://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c5-general/2684621-broken-shifter-linkage-fix-with-pics.html the part replaced (the bushing) failed because of plastic deterioration, the pictures in the above links show the broken part and the part obtained to repair the problem. this problem needs serious attention!
