Power steering lost when attempting left turn. gm says the car is safe to drive even with my 3kids in the car.how is that possible if i can lose control of my car. they will not even give a rental until the parts are available to repair the vehicle. this is a recalled vehicle, they have known of these problems for some years now. yet the safety of there consumers seems to be something they don't care a big about. *tr

While driving to a local business in my 2010 chevy cobalt, i lost the power steering to my vehicle without any warning. thankfully i was driving slowly on a straight road with minimal traffic. i was able to drive the vehicle back home. to have the power steering quit suddenly was shocking and frightening and i'm very thankful that i wasn't driving in more challenging conditions. *tr
I have received the recall notice in may that this vehicle model has been involved in numerous wrecks related to fatalities/injuries and i was directed to contact the dealership to have the defective ignition switch replaced. i contacted the dealership on 5/15/2014 and they told me they would order the parts and they would call me when the parts came in so they could fix it. as of today(7/16/2014) this problem has not been corrected. gm apparently has been aware of this problem since 2004 and neglected to notify the public or take corrective measures in the manufacturing process since 2004. i do not feel safe driving this vehicle and do not see the problem being corrected in a timely manner. i am requesting you evaluate if there is any way gm can be required to buy these vehicles from us so we can purchase another vehicle and not continue to put my life and many others in the same situation at risk on a daily basis. *tr

My power steering goes in and out on my chevy cobalt. *tr
I was driving on the highway returning to work from my lunch. i hear the three warning chimes and look at the dash. the warning reads "power steering". i slow down to make my turn in a quarter mile and realized that i no longer had the power steering. i knew i was on the recall list for the ignition and was still waiting for the part at my local dealer. i found online the bulletin 14115. dated march 31, 2014, that referred to replacing the power steering motor in cars including my 2010 chevrolet cobalt. when i restarted my car, the steering worked for a few blocks then went out again. my father took my car to the local dealer because i had to work. i had printed out the bulletin for him to take. the dealer had not heard of it. he called detroit and spoke to a man named al at gm headquarters. he did not have that bulletin either. the dealer went ahead and fixed the ignition recall part, but could not get the power steering issue to happen. i drove it less than one day and it happened again. i drove immediately back to the dealer. they told me i needed to replace the motor and possibly the steering column. out of pocket, i paid for the motor replacement. i was told if they ever receive the bulletin, they would reimburse me. i checked online for the recall on my vin and it is not on there. so is it a current recall or not? and why is gm not notifying people about this issue. *tr
I was coming to a stop sign and steering got tight on the car, i looked down and a "power steering" message was on the display. if i turn the car off and back on it will be fine for a couple minutes then it will go out again. *tr

While attempting to merge into traffic during rush hour, the power steering stopped working and the message "power steering" was displayed on the dash. this made the car very difficult to steer. the other drivers hit their brakes suddenly to avoid hitting me as i struggled to complete the lane change. this resulted in pulled muscles in my shoulders and arms, along with the mental distress of almost being hit by oncoming traffic. this vehicle was already involved in two ignition recalls for a switch and cylinder. approximately 3 weeks ago i received a notice that this vehicle is now involved in another recall, this one to replace the power steering motor. as yet no parts are available for this repair, and no accommodations are being made for owners who have already experienced issues with the steering. i protested picking up my cobalt from the dealer when the ignition was repaired due to the power steering issue, and was told that picking it up and waiting for another letter stating that parts are now available is the best they can do. *tr

Steering works fine when car is started and driven for awhile. all of a sudden, it will start binging and "power steering" will show on dash just before power steering stops working. i contacted the dealership where it was originally purchased to inquire about recall. they asked for my vin and informed me that the power steering assist motor had been recalled and replaced before leaving the dealership when there was only 3 miles on the vehicle. the service representative then went on to tell me that the part used for the repair was going to be recalled but hadn't been yet. during a later conversation with my mother in-law, the service department at this same dealership told her there had never been a recall on this car. *tr
Power steering failed, steering wheel becomes very hard to turn. this happens all the time now but the dealer says my car is not covered under the recall. how can only some 2010 cobalts be covered, obviously my car has the issue. *tr

I have a chevy cobalt lt 2010. i got it used with 40000 miles on last year. i was in my car driving back home from school. all the sudden i smelled gas or burned oil. it is happening every once a while but i never paid attention to it. i pulled over. i turned my car off and i turned it back on in some couple minutes. also it takes me a while to switch the gear when i am in the highway. the brakes also are not working as i am pushing them hard. they have a delay to stop my car. i did not know anything about the chevy cobalt recall. when i got the notification letter from gm i realized that i should report these issues that have been constantly happening to my car. i am student. i do really need my car for my daily commute. i am going to ask gm to rent a car for me until the part gets fixed. however, even after this car gets fixed i am thinking that this car is not reliable to drive any more. i am not really feeling safe driving this car. i have heard that there have been some accidents due to the engine ignition issues and other issues regarding to this car. i am really scared about driving my car again, even if this gets fixed. *tr

I was turning left driving toward a store & as soon as i came out of the turn the car turned completely off & not even the gauges flashed.the driver behind me almost hit me due to the sudden stop because of complete loss of power and control. i stepped on the brakes & shifted it into neutral trying to start it & it took me several attempts to get it to crank up again. i turned into a parking lot just for the car to turn off once more. after i cranked it up again it was fine. car had issues before over the years; it seemed to have loss of power put regained it in an instant; was taken to dealership, incident could not be duplicated. car had recall for electric power steering assist soon after i purchased it on may 29, 2010. found out recently about one recall for ignition switch when i took car to dealer on april 4, 2014 for an oil change. called gm and they confirmed with my vin # that there was another recall for the eps even though it had been replaced in 2010. yesterday third recall for the ignition switch key lock. i was also informed by gm hq, when i talked to them a fourth time, that they were not sure which cobalts 2010 had eps problem, that does not reflect the answers i received on three other occasions from gm hq's executive office. my dealers system does not reflect same recalls then gm's. i was told that "the dealers got the memos and had probably not got to them to read them yet." i saw what was on their computer. gm is not being truthful and i am starting to suspect that they used another part with the same part number with the eps problem and therefore they can not determine which cobalt is affected. gm is not being truthful and is being negligent in informing the dealers and the vehicle owners ( i have not gotten any recall notices in the mail). breach of contract. sold faulty vehicle to me with knowledge of faulty part(s) on may 29, 2010. *js

Pulled into our development and the power steering went out, a power steering message displayed on the console. car was very hard to steer. made it home a turned car off. i called the dealer and made an appointment. once we started the car we made it to the dealer with no incident. chevy is now telling us we need a new power steering motor $392 and they said there is no recall on the cobalt which i find very hard to believe. there are tons of reports about this on this site and in news reports all you need to do is google it. *tr
Power steering shuts off while driving. turns back on again when the car is turned off and back on. no pattern or explanation to when it goes off. has been happening continually since initial date but does not happen every time i drive. *tr

My sister borrowed my 2010 chevy cobalt in january to take my cousin for his drivers license. while practice driving before his test the power steering stopped working and he nearly hit a tree. i took the car back to the dealer and was told the problem was not covered under warranty and i had to pay to fix the problem. the dealer replaced the power steering motor. i now find there is a major recall for this issue with the 2010 chevy cobalt but i'm told my car is not being recalled for this issue. coincidence or are they not correcting this problem on all of the affected vehicles? if my cousin crashed the car that day and someone was injured, chevrolet would be in litigation with me over this issue right now. *tr

As i was driving home at approximately 30 mph my power steering light indicator appeared on the dash board and then suddenly it became very hard to steer my wheel. after it happened a few more times i decided to call chevrolet dealership to ask if my particular car had been recalled and he said that the chevrolet cobalt 2010 was not recalled. as of 02/22/14 its been happening everyday and i have to constantly shut off the car and start it again in order for the steering to work again. *tr
While driving at low speed (25 mph) through an "s" curve i entered the first portion of the curve and the cobalt was operating normally, without any warning entering into the second portion of the "s" curve suddenly there was no power steering. an alarm bell chimed and the message board displayed "power steering" message. i was able to stay in my lane of traffic using extra force to control the steering wheel. there is a recall # 82540 but it appears the recall stopped by 10,000 units short of my vin #. same problem as recall, but it appears the recall didn't recall enough vehicles? *tr
I was pulling out of a parking lot and power steering light came on and car was difficult to steer. i turned the car off then back on and was able to drive but the slightest turn of the wheel the power steering light would go on and become difficult to drive. i did find the recall online & when i called gm they stated it was already fixed. i bought this car used in 2011 so i don't know if it was fixed. i did take it to a dealership and the stated it was previously fixed and it is not related to the recall, and gave me an estimate of 860.00 to fix it, but if it was fixed is this still an issue that will continue or was it supposed to completely correct the problem. this issue to me has not been corrected. *tr
Power steering failure. car is out of warranty (20,000 miles) contacted chevrolet who says part already replaced under recall (april 2010). this part has failed for a second time! manufacturer of this exact part has had recalls with toyota (2012) as well. critical safety issue that must be addressed by nhtsa and force a second recall until design flaw is resolved. *tr

While driving down a side street the power steering warning light came on and i lost all power steering control. at this time it became very difficult to steer and turn the wheel, i was able to get it back to my house, but moved extremely slow due to lack of control. i had the vehicle in the shop for other issues, not related to this and thought they might have said something about a recall, if there was one but they did not and their system is down to check that now. *tr
On sunday november 3,2013 my son was on his way home from the james madison university traveling east on virginia route 66 heading towards the capital beltway (495). at mile post 26 on route 66 he lost control of the vehicle in the fast lane. the car was traveling at the speed limit (approximately 70 mph) the car moved into the median where the vehicle rolled over three times smashing the front bumper area, the hood and crushed the roof (blowing out all windows).landed upside down in the oncoming traffic lane on the west bound side of the divided median. the front air bags did not deploy.the car ended up on its roof. an ambulance and police both arrived as well as other people stopped on the opposite side of the median. the passenger had to crawl out of the passenger window. the driver was trapped in the vehicle and was removed by emt personal and flown to a trauma center. the passenger was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. they both survived with injuries.we have pictures of the car showing the damage. *tr
