Power steering has gone out 3 times in the last day. after turning car off then on again power steering will work for a short period of time that varies. recall 10v073000 seems to apply but dealer said it does not. never received a recall notice even though my car falls under the year and model for the recall.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet cobalt. while driving approximately 55 mph, a chime noise was heard and the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. the power steering light was illuminated. the contact pulled over to the side of the road to switch off and restart the vehicle. the contact mentioned that the steering wheel became usable again. the failure recurred intermittently. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 140,946.

Power steering light flashes on and off along with the security lock/car light. i lose all power to the car then all of the panel goes haywire...flashing no fuel no power steering...all the while going down the highway..

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet cobalt. while driving at 20 mph, there was a noise coming from the front driver side of the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the intermediate steering shaft was fractured and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 67,000. updated 02/10/16*lj a light noise was still present. the repair shop recommended having the steering column replaced. updated 03/01/16.*jb

While teen driver was driving on city streets at low speeds, the power steering failed. there was a near-miss accident. i contacted the dealer (autonation gmc chevrolet, corpus christi, tx) to see if there were any recalls on the power steering, they stated that yes, but i had already had it done. i had not recalled that service, but turns out i did take the car in three years ago for a recall that i did not pay much attention to involving a steering part (turns out it was the power steering motor; there was no problem with the car back then). i explained to the female service representative that i thought we had another bad power steering motor and that this was a serious problem, there was nearly an accident and that i would need to report it to the nhtsa. she stated that was fine, but i was not going to get another free power steering motor! i was speechless; i could not believe that gm representative only cared about a $150 part - or thought that i only cared about a $150 part, and not the potential impact on human life. i replaced the part myself with another oem power steering motor and that fixed the problem. i would appear to me that the original steering motor recall was not effective, especially if the same oem motor was used. i would recommend to gm that another recall be issued with improved parts. updated 12/11/2017*cn

This is the second time this issue has happened. the issue is when turning on an on-ramp that has sharp turning radius the car abs system turns on and you lose control of the car. this also happens when you are already on a freeway that has a sweeping on ramp to another freeway the abs starts to brake in the turn. i have reported this issue to the dealership and they have not addressed it. *tr

My electronic power steering is cutting in and out at random time intervals. called the dealer to see if my cobalt was part of the affected recall on the power steering and was informed that they will not cover the repair for my car under that recall. *js

The dic shows the reading of each tire pressure backwards, for example right front wheel is actually the rear right wheel, and left front is actually rear front. also i am unable to use the cruise control. the lights turns on but the car does not engage in the same speed for the cruise control. *js

My intermediate steering shaft went out had it replaced a month later it went out again. no two months later had it in again it needs entire steering rack $610 for gm ' brand. from what i read online gm suede the maker of the steering rack to pay their customers it is a plastic gear. the greatest thing about the car is the water that comes inside down my air bag when it rains. i've took it in 7 times for this problem. besides the recalls the door handle fell off. head light got water in it. it never ends. *js

I was on my way home and it was raining on the expressway but by the time i got to the city i live it had stop. i was exiting the expressway and was turning a left on the street i live on. i had made my turn at about 30 mph and after i had made my turn the car was straight for awhile then all the sudden the car acted up and the steering wheel or the wheels or something happen that made my car make a sharp u-turn going in front of ongoing traffic. my car went straight in front of a car and she didn't have time to stop so she hit me and we both went onto the island. i have no idea what happened but luckily we were both going slow that none of us were hurt but our cars were in bad conditions. i'm looking at 3,000 damage on my car, and probably 4,000 damage to her car. i want to say it was bc of the rain, but the road wasn't wet and i just got new tires and just got a oil change. i maintain my car very well so i have no idea why that would happen. *tr

On thursday october 9th, 2014 i was driving east on rt 70. it began to rain heavily at approximately 4:50pm and i attempted to use the brakes on my vehicle. the brakes were suddenly very stiff. i didn't think they were working. i was in the left lane when this occurred and immediately put on my emergency lights and tried to move to the middle lane, to the right lane so i could go to the shoulder. when i attempted to switch the lanes, the power steering wasn't working. i managed to move the steering wheel slightly so that i could switch lanes. there was oncoming traffic before an available shoulder so i tried to speed up. i was unable to increase my speed. i was able to slow down naturally but i wasn't able to completely stop until i got to the shoulder and pushed extremely hard on the breaks and held down on the break for several seconds. the radio was still working and the heater was blowing cold air. i was able to get the vehicle working again by turning the ignition to the off position and turning the ignition back on. i think my vehicle's engine turned off while i was driving. i have onstar on the vehicle and immediately pushed the button when i was unable to break properly with my vehicle. the lady i spoke with said that she was seeing some problem with my breaks but i took my vehicle to the local dealership the same day and they found no codes for my vehicle. the next day the dealership told me that they fixed the ignition recall on my vehicle and that might have fixed the issue. on two other occasions before the recall was announced, i had a similar issue and brought it into the dealership. they couldn't find anything wrong. this experience was terrifying and i'm just glad that i wasn't killed. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet cobalt. while driving approximately 5 mph and attempting to make a left turn, the steering wheel seized without warning. the failure persisted after shutting off and restarting the vehicle. the failure occurred several times. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 115,000.

Tl* the contact own a 2009 chevrolet cobalt. the contact stated the vehicle experienced numerous failures. the rack and pinion had to be replaced, the window motors were replaced six times, and the ignition was replaced. the vehicle was taken to a dealer and the failures were repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 27,000.

I took the car into the dealership because of a noise on driver side near tire during low speed while going over a bump. dealer stated the steering column was bad. replaced the part at a total cost of $874.62. there are several complaints about the steering column lower bearing that is failing on the nhtsa web site, with some indicating they had to replace this part multiple times. i feel the part is defective and should be recalled because it can cause the steering to seize and the operator will not be able to control the vehicle. i contacted the manufacturer and they took my compliant over the phone, but they most likely will not reimburse me for the repairs unless they determine the part is defective. i want this to further investigated because i fear the new part can fail at any time causing a crash and a potential fatality. *tr

My electrical power steering fails when driving. this failure just started a month ago. it gets very hard to turn the steering wheel, making it difficult to execute turns or switch lanes in some cases. contacted gm about this issue seeing how it was a recall on 2010 models and was told that my car is not covered. something needs to be done. *tr

2009 chevrolet cobalt. consumer writes in regards to ignition switch and several other problems with vehicle. *smd the consumer the vehicle was taken to the dealer, several times. three times, for the ignition. the steering module, struts, and control arms were replace. the drive train was in the process of failing. *jb

2009 chevrolet cobalt. consumer had car taken in repair shop to fix power steering problem ignition switch and the dealer kept the vehicle for three months. *ta each time the consumer called to inquire about the vehicle, she was informed they were waiting on the parts. when the vehicle was returned to the consumer, the turn signals and air condition were not working properly.*jb

I was driving and had to pull to the side of the road because the lights kept on going from dim to bright and the automatic lights kept on switching up and down real fast and the car just lost its powersteering there is a strong smell of gas coming from the car and when i put gas in it takes a few minutes to actually crank back up. im afraid while driving fast the electric problems will cause serious harm. there was a recent recall on this model and all the problems i stated and i need them fixed. *js

Http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2014/03/31/gm-recall-steering/7127117/ this recall covers 2010 but i had a power steering replacement in january 2011 from a 2010 recall http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/recalls/recallresults.cfm?start=1&searchtype=quicksearch&rcl_id=10v073000 the new recall only indicates 2010 and "some previously recalled vehicles" i took my car in early may to my dealership, pat o'brien chevrolet in westlake, oh for them to fix the current ignition recall and made mention of the power steering being the main issue. the timing of the other recall was purely coincidental. when i came to pick up my car i was told they've "heard of issues but nothing has been official so there's nothing we can do." so, here i am trying to get this process going. there's no way i'm the only one affected at this point. *tr

My wife tried to start the car on 4/30/14. put the key in the ignition and try to turn the key to start the car the key wouldn't turn. it was locked up. the steering wheel wouldn't turn, the engine wouldn't run. eventually if she comes back after approx. one hour and try again the key will turn in the ignition and the car will start. this happens couple of time a year since we bought the car brand new from the dealer. we contacted the dealer service department; they told us that they do not know of any such problem with this chevy model. *js

When i was pulling into a nursing home making a right hand turn the cars steering went and it was pulling me all the way to the right and almost crashed in parking lot i had to gain control n force the steering wheel to go back straight. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet cobalt which was purchased brand new. the contact heard a noise in the steering column while the technician test drove the vehicle at approximately 10 to 15 mph. the technician confirmed that the steering column and linkage needed to be replaced at the contacts expense for $942.00. the steering column remained locked after the vehicle was repaired. the technician stated that the wheels must remain straight at all times in order for the ignition to be engaged. a representative with the manufacturer stated that he would call the contact within twenty four hours to follow up on the defect and reimbursement; however, no one has notified him. the contact was offered a partial reimbursement on the steering column repair which he denied. the failure mileage was 35,520.

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet cobalt. the contact stated that while traveling 25 mph, the steering wheel failed and became hard to turn. the steering warning alarm activated while the failure occurred. the vehicle was previously serviced under nhtsa campaign number 10v073000 (steering) where the steering motor was replaced however, the failure was not corrected. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who replaced the power steering motor. the manufacturer was contacted but denied any assistance with the repair. the approximate failure mileage was 29,000 and the current mileage was 97,000.

Vehicle was being towed behind class a motorhome. key was in the accessory position; transmission (automatic) was in the neutral position; fuse block:8 (ignition switch, pass-key iii+) was removed to prevent battery drain; per vehicle manual for dinghy towing. traveling on interstate 45; 95 miles south of dallas, tx. nothing was hit when traveling. both front tires blew out, subsequently ruining both front tires and wheels. there is no apparent reason why this happened. was wondering if this may be connected with current safety recall on ignition problem on chevrolet cobalt. the key chain had three keys and the key fob attached. *tr

As i was driving down the street to turn into my parking lot i started turning the wheel left when i turned my steering wheel and brakes locked up and drove over the curb of my apartment complex causing my whole right side of my car $1300.00 worth of damage this is the second time this has happened to me first time no damage was done that was back in october. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet cobalt. the contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the power steering assist failed as the steering wheel seized without warning. the emergency brake was used to stop the vehicle in a grassy field. the contact turned the engine off and once restarted, the vehicle resumed normally. the failure recurred twice within a one week period. the following day, the vehicle failed to start. the vehicle was not taken to dealer. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 67,500. the vin was not available. *tr

While pulling out of the gas station, the power steering light came on and the power steering no longer worked. it has not worked since then. *tr

Driving on the interstate, the electrical power steering went out. i was informed that the electrical motor was already replaced back in 2010 under my warranty. now, they state this "problem" with the eps was never a "national recall" problem and all repairs will be at my expense. *tr

I just found out there was a recall on the 2009 chevrolet cobalt due to failure with the electric power steering assist motor / system. as i looked it up i found 2 additional recalls which chevrolet was supposed to contact me on all 3. i was not contacted, and do not know if my car has had the repairs done prior to me purchasing the vehicle in january 2011. the 2 other recalls are as follows. shifter cable problem with car not in proper gear, clip on cable, if not installed properly, chevrolet is supposed to replace the entire cable. also, a fuel leakage can occur, causing a fire, due to a plastic supply and/or return port breakage on the fuel pump module. *tr

Power steering was going out several times over a few weeks. it would just quit working and my daughter would have to steer hard. if she shut off the vehicle and waited a few minutes then restarted the car it would fix it. we had her take it in which they said it was not under a recall and charged us $239.00 to fix this. they said it showed it had been fixed once before in the past. i see this has a recall now for the exact thing that was wrong with her car and i feel i should be able to get this fixed correctly and reimbursed for the problem. i feel since this is the second time the power steering has been fixed it will happen again. *tr

Lost power in steering it was replaced 13 months prior for a recall. before that steering locked up on us. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet cobalt. the contact stated the steering wheel failed without warning when she drove 55 mph. the steering wheel became hard to turn; however, the steering wheel regained normal function when the brake pedal was depressed. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 88,000. updated 01/07/14*lj

I was driving and pulled up to a stop sign and the power steering went out. the dealership wants to charge me hundreds of dollars to get it fixed this time because it remains defective even after the recall was claimed in 2010. i think it is morally wrong of them to not fix the system continuously free of charge knowing the unit is consistently defective. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet cobalt. the contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph, the power steering warning light illuminated as the warning chime sounded. the contact stated that the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 10v073000 (steering) but was advised by the manufacturer that the vin was not included in the recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 26,539.

Power steering light come on in the dash, wheel hard to turn, difficult to pull off the road at 35 mph, read manual and find out it has electric steering assist motor, called dealer for recalls or warranty, none. amazing how we can sell vehicles that don't even make it to 50k miles before tearing into todays thin wallets. very sad.

When i drive my car over 60 i get a sway side to side and i feel like its going to sway in to another car when i go by them. i had it in a chevy dealership to have it fixed and they did nothing but put a pull in the car and it sill sways. i think it has to do with the rack in the car and or the electrical steering in the car. the dealership says " its been fixed in the first recall" well i am saying its not so i think it should be recalled again and fixed right this time.... *tr

While i was driving my car at 102 and amsterdam avenue in nyc, i noticed that the power steering wheel got kind of hard but it still worked. when i wanted to park the car i noticed that i had to put a lot of effort to turn the wheel and i thought that this was normal because i thought i touched the curb; however, when i left the spot and i was driving the power steering wheel stopped working and i almost hit 2 cars while driving on the henry hudson highway. i had to make an emergency stop and i parked the car. i saw that there was a recall for power steering on these types of cars and i need chevy to test and fix my car. i don't feel safe driving like this. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet cobalt. the contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 70,000. *tr

I was driving into a roundabout and as i came out of the roundabout i lost the power steering and the steering wheel seemed to pull away from my hand. if i had been going any faster i would have been in a collision into oncoming traffic. this is the first time it happened. i drove home and got out my book to see if it needed power steering fluid and that is when i found out it was electric. in bought this car as a certified new car with about 30,000 mi. the car now has a bit over 75,000 miles. today i drove to work and back and again i lost the power steering. this time i was expecting it to happen and it did. i checked on line and found that the power steering unit is and has been a problem in these cars and for many models and years. i would like it fixed before some one gets hurt or killed. *tr

Tl* the contact owns 2009 chevrolet cobalt. the contact stated that while making a three point turn at unknown speeds, the steering wheel seized. the contact was able to straighten the wheel but the steering failed sporadically. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that the electric power assists had failed. the failure and current mileages were 70,000. the vin was not available. *tr

My entire column shakes and makes a dragging sound when driving. *tr
