Recently reported STRUCTURE problems on 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt

Issue #1) fuel leak from top of fuel tank. this creates a strong fuel smell in cabin during any operation, and fuel leaking on driveway after operation. fumes are strong enough that any open flame in cabin would detonate creating death and/or critical injury. the fuel pump has been replaced once in aug 2017 costing over $600 dollars. issue #2) both interior front door handles have broken resulting in doors being unable to open doors normally. to open doors, windows must be cranked down opening doors using the outside handle. the failure area is where door latch cable connects to rear of door handles. both door handles have been replaced, but replaced service handles have sharp edges from plastic flash. both issues are critical to safe vehicle operation. this could result in death and/or critical injury if either issue fails during any vehicle operation. as a disabled veteran, husband and father, both vehicle issues are dangerous and lack the resources to keep repairing these failures. an investigation, recall and/or replacement is needed asap. *js

Driver's door interior handle broke or became disconnected today, prohibiting exit from the car at that door. can be opened from outside handle.

At 3:30am, the front passenger side douglas performance gt-h tire 195/60r15 88h tire spontaneously exploded while sitting in my garage. it bent the metal frame around the wheel well, blew the headlight out completely, and caused damage to the interior of the wheel well.

The hood latch hook part of the hood is rusting to a point where its ready to break off which will lead to the hood being opened when driving

I am using my partner's grandparent's 2008 chevrolet cobalt ls to get back and for to work. this morning i got up as usual, and went out to my car to let it warm up. i started my car, mind you i keep the driver's side door open because my car automatically locks, and started the car. doors locked as per usual. however, upon hitting the unlock button on my key fob, the driver's side door would not unlock, passenger side did. i rolled down the window and closed the door, i didn't have a choice, i have to work. anyway, i had to climb in through either the open window or the passenger side. i called reeder chevrolet in knoxville and they stated that it would be several hundred dollars to fix potentially one of two parts in the vehicle. i wouldn't have minded if i hadn't done my research and found out that there have been several hundred different people who have had the same problem, and no one has done a recall on this or done anything about it. the dealers half the time say they don't know what is causing it or they have never heard of it before. i would greatly appreciate it if someone actually did a recall because this is ridiculous. *tr

Door doesn't latch when shut. also, on occasion, neither the inside nor outside door handle will open the latch. if there is a fire, the driver has little chance of escaping the vehicle without injury. also the door can open while driving and cause life threatening injuries. *tr

Sliding on slippery road. fishtailed, not sure if steering locked up. with the front of my car, hit another car in the side. no airbags deployed. concerned about the recall with the cobalt at this time. *tr

On february 21th, 2011, i was driving on the i-95 expressway. suddenly, i lost the control of my car which was hit by another car driven by [xxx] (case # [xxx]). on june seventh, 2010, my wife had similar accident with her 2006 chevy cobalt. the fact that both crashes were so similar made dubious about our responsibility on them. i asked to inspect my vehicle twice (3/25/11 and 4/9/11), but inspectors said that my car was ok. on december 12, 2011 i presented a complaint to f. h.s. m. v. d. m. s. (complaint #[xxx]), on december 16, 2011 its answer was; your complaints do not fall within its jurisdiction. dejected, i did not forward any more action. i have just received from gm a warning about a defect which relates to motor vehicles safety exists in 2005-2007 model year (my) chevrolet cobalt, then i read on tv news, and internet, that gm issued that it's possible that the air bags might not deploy if there is an accident. in this moment we realized that both the 2006 and 2008 chevy cobalt air bags did not deploy, regardless both vehicles crashes were on front bumper allstate insurance paid the amount of $6440.58 to repair my car. we have received a significant amount of letters from lawyers and allstate insurance dealing with injures damages and monetary compensation. allstate paid to mr. sentmanat the sum of $10 000, consequently our allstate insurance premium was raised substantially. this entire situation had caused stress, economic problems and lack of confidence in both my wife i. because both crashes happened in the afternoon rush hour, i-95 traffic was crowded and slow, but in other conditions and as consequence of air bag malfunction my wife and might have died. for the reasons explaining above i, the writer, demand from gm a monetary compensation for the psychological, legal, and monetary problems caused by my car malfunction. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
