I was driving about 45 mph and suddenly the it was hard to steer and the words power steering popped up on my dash. there was lots of traffic. it was almost impossible for me to turn left and right. i turned the car off once i got home for about twenty minutes and i started it up and took it around the block, not even one minute of starting it power steering flashed on my dash. i have had 2 other electrical problems with this car this will be my 3rd time taking it into the dealer for something electrical. my warranty ended at 30,000 it currently had 30,060. *tr

My daughter was driving my 2008 chevy cobalt on rte. 219 between ridgewayand bradford, pa on sept. 11, 2009, when she lost control of the steering. it was around noon and lightly sprinkling. she was traveling north at about 50 miles per hour. there was a truck in front of her which she considered passing. she turned to the left to see if she could pass. she decided not to pass and turned right. that is when she lost steering control. the steering took her too far right and into the guardrail, then she bounce off the rail and over to the left side of the road where she hit the opposite guardrail. the road was flat and straight, not the side of a mountain. the car then took her back to the right side of the road where she stopped. the car suffered about $6000 damage. had there been a car on the opposite side of the road, she would have been struck head on. we assumed because the road was somewhat wet, she must have hydroplaned. we were just relieved she wasn't killed or injured. when i read the article in the paper about the steering, i asked my daughter to describe where happened in the accident. she spoke of losing control of the steering, so now i fear the steering may be faulty and her life my be in danger. *tr

My power steering failed - several times, after my 2008 chevrolet cobalt hit around 45,00miles. i was told the car had just run out of warranty and i would have to pay to have this fixed. i refused, because all over the internet were complaints from chevrolet cobalt users saying that even after it was fixed, the issue returned. they finally agreed to fix it for free. the part was replaced. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2008 chevrolet cobalt. while driving 55 mph it became difficult to control the steering wheel when making a right turn. the vehicle was traveling 55 mph at the time of the failure. the vehicle lost power steering whenever he made a left or right turn. when the power steering light illuminated on the dashboard the contact ha\d to turn the vehicle off and on so that it would reset and function properly. the failure mileage was 50,000. the current mileage was 68,000.

The power steering failure in the '08 chevy cobalt seems to occur at random. with only 6k miles on the vehicle it was taken back to the dealer to be fixed. now at 10k miles the same problem is occurring. the power steering will stop working and the light in the dash will flash at random. the longer it goes without repair the worse it gets. eventually it will go out every 5 minutes or less. only way to fix it is to shut the car off and turn it back on. *tr

2008 chevy cobalt, i bought it brand new in jan. 2008! i have had nothing but problems with the passengers side front end and front brakes. in the beginning, the car was under warranty, now it is not, but the problems keep happening and i have had it back in for service many, many times! always for the same issues, front end and brakes! you will see when you pull the service reports! i contacted gm and i had a wonderful lady working with me and she said she was putting someone on my acct, a guy called me said they accepted my acct, now today he called and said they were not able to do the buy back program with the car and just to keep servicing the car! im telling you they service it and then in a matter of a short period, its back in the service dept. the car should in no way shape or form, have all these issues and for gods sake front end or brakes, its still fairly new! i pray nothing seriously happens to me or anyone riding in this car due to something being broke or breaking! the service dept where i bought the car says they fix it, but shortly there after its back! now, they treat me like i don't know what im talking about and i am furious! please check out the service reports and you tell me! i believe this is a defective car! there also has been others who have had issues with the front ends and brakes with these cars even the owner of the dealer i bought it at admitted that! there are several bulletins out on it also, i know for a fact! i am one very dissatisfied customer!!! right as i speak, when you are driving 40+ mph the steering wheel shakes and you can feel it in your seat and on the floor board..is this normal? it also wants to sway to the left or the right...ya just never know! the brakes have this horrible grinding loud sound as you brake, it is sometimes, not always! i will put down the first incident date because too many to list! there were other issues with this car as you will see in reports! *tr

On march 7 2009, i was involved in an automobile accident while driving a 2008 chevy cobalt lt, the vehicle was a rental from enterprise rent a car. i was unable to control the vehicle and the steering behaved very erratically. the cause of the accident was categorized as a dui (.089 bac) but i firmly believe that it was due to the steering, i did mention this in the initial police report but, but my dui took precedence over everything else. i was hospitalized with significant injuries and costs. kindly advice as to how i can seek some relief from the consequences both financial, physical, mental and legal. i will consult an attorney in this matter as well, but would like to lodge a formal complaint about the incident. *tr

Had a knocking sound coming from under hood. lasted about two months. took vehicle in before warranty expired and they said i had a faulty steering column. they tried to say it was possibly caused by my worn tires but they still have at least two months left before i would have to replace them. because part was covered under warranty they replaced the steering column (pt#19209155) and i paid the $100 deductible. i had other problems with steering on the freeway but figured it was the road conditions. non lead to a accident but at least one time i almost hit another car. hopefully there will be a recall on this because this could lead to a very fatal accident. i will never use this vehicle to transport any of my children. *tr

I bought a new 08 cobalt in sept 08. i have had to have two steering columns put in, a power steering pump, stabilizer bars, front end bushings and bearings, and now a rack pinion (along with multiple other unrelated repairs). i took the car back to the dealer (ron marhoffer stow oh) after each repair and was told that there was nothing wrong with the steering or suspension of the car. the car would pull out of my lane to the left and was very difficult to control. i actually lost control of the car and went into a ditch on one occasion. i do not believe that the dealer knows how to fix the problem and therefor just keeps throwing parts in it. however the problem still exists. it is very dangerous. the dealer also replaced multiple fornt end parts including stabilzer bars, bearing and bushings on oth fron wheels tryng to correct the steering problem. i also have had to replace the tires on the car twice on the front end due to abnormal wear and tear from the car constantly pulling while driving. *tr
