Recently reported EQUIPMENT problems on 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt

The left front speaker quit working. i then noticed that the turn signal chime did not work. when i was trying to trouble shoot the problem i also noticed that all chimes (door open, key in the ignition, etc) was not working. based on my research, it appears that the cobalt has a long history of this issue and it also appears that gm doesn't want to address it. *tr

I bought my cobalt in march of 2007. for the last year the radio will only play on the back speakers. the stero it self will play but some time nothing on sreen to show station or time. that not a magior as the problem the has happened now three time. when we go to stop at a light and push in on the cluck the car will die and the gauges on the dash will shoot over to the right and then to the left side fast. the car will restart. in the last month the front in will shimmy and shake when sppling the breaks. dose it real bad when you slowing down when over 55 mile per hour. i have seen many complains on the front end. wll it take a person to be killed for the chevy company to have the vehicles called in and looked at. i bought the car because of the price, mile per gallon of gas.and over all look. *tt

I smelled a strong gas odor and the minutes later half of my gas was leaking out onto the parking lot with gas so high it is expensive took it to the dealership said i had a crack in my filler neck of the fuel tank and that it would be $1150 to get it fixed. *tr

Chrome plated door handle on 2007 chevy cobalt. the chrome has come off and sliced opened my hand. you are taking to long to force gm to recall vehicles with bad handles. you are already investigating the 2007 tahoe for the same problem. now that we are all part owner of gm and taxpayers keep nhtsa running, stop taking so long with the "red tape" and do the right thing. *tr

The left front speaker started going out (couldn't hear words or music well). soon after it completely quit working and when it quit so did the right side. it's only the door speakers. the back ones work fine.

The complaint is for the radio in my car. it was working fine then it started having issues with the speakers cutting in and out. the problem i have is with the radio it's tided into the safety features of the car and lets you know if you have an issue with your car. if you forget your seatbelt it dings letting you know it hasn't been buckled and keeps dinging until you put it on. if you turn your blinker is on it makes a noise with the blinker so you know it?s on. if your blinker stays on it lets you know to turn it off. if your car has mechanical issues it will dings letting you know something?s wrong. as it sits now my two front speakers don?t work at all so i don?t know if something is going on with my car beforehand. if my car was to overheat i wouldn't know until it actually broke down on me. at least if i was to hear a chime or the warning before any damage could happen that would be helpful. also this is supposed to be a safety feature for the car and the person driving it. i've read that this is very common in this model car and i would like to have this fixed. hers one of the links you can read for yourself. http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/chevrolet-cobalt/tduj7vfpaec901fn4. *tr

Automatic 2007 chevrolet cobalt. gm sent me a letter about the power steering recall. went to dealership to get the problem fixed september 1, 2010. september 24, 2010 i was involved in a car accident where my cobalt hydroplaned and completely lost control as described in the investigations done by gm, on this issue. *tr

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) loss of warning chimes due to defective drivers door speaker (2007 cobalt and & 2007 gmc canyon). i am current awaiting repair under the 2nd recall for our cobalt vin [xxx](gas leak & loss of steering defects not yet repaired). the letter received from gm warning of the steering defect stated a warning chime would sound and a message on the drivers info cntr would appear. problem is, the speaker where the warning sounds come from is intermittent. in fact, i cannot tell if i have the blinkers on without looking at the dashboard; something that's not always safe to do. even though this started shortly after the warranty expired; i asked the dealer to repair it because i considered it unsafe. if a car manufacturer is going to change the role of a speaker from merely producing sound for radio use to sounding safety warning chimes then the speaker ought to have an extended warranty. i am approaching my middle 50's and do not abuse the sound system in the car. in my opinion; this failing speaker is a definite safety issue. in fact, our 2007 gmc canyon is experiencing the same issue. i've recently noticed the drivers door speaker is starting to distort and realized after the cobalts speaker failed the canyon drivers door speaker also emits warning chimes. as i stated above, if the role of a speaker is to sound warning chimes, then it becomes a possible safety issue when it fails. Within a month of purchasing a new 2007 chevy cobalt - i began hearing rattling noises from my vehicle. i have had the car in for repairs numerous times. multiple components have been replaced and or repaired. i currently have 15,000 miles on the vehicle - to this day i can still hear rattling noises and clunking noise coming from the steering-suspension. the mechanics have now told me they don't know what's wrong and suggested i try a different dealership. i have contacted chevy and received no help in settling this issue. if chevy would of had their return policy when i purchased - i would of gladly returned the vehicle - i make car payments on a lemon. i don't even like my daughter to ride in the vehicle for fear of her safety. i fear i will be driving down the road the front end will fall apart. it scares me to death. *tr

I am having an incident with my power steering locking up in my 2007 chevy cobalt and i have replaced the gear box nov of 2008 and it is back to doing it again. i am afraid that if it locks up on a curve with my children in the car on a curve it may not stay on the road and lead to an accident. i have reported this problem to gm and have had no luck. *tr

My name is crystal marie torres, and i purchased a 2007 chevy cobalt and it's barely going to be 2 years in december that i've purchased it! the power steering is already going out and the light appears. i don't believe if i'm paying for practically a new vehicle it shouldn't be doing this so soon. i've always done my best to take care of my vehicle, so why is the power steering failing!!! i got on the internet to investigate this situation with other cobalt customers, they too are having the same issue.... something needs to be done, otherwise there will be lawsuits going into action for false advertisement on such a great car! not fair to the public who has been nothing but loyal customers!!! help resolve this issue soon!!! here is the sight where others are posting their issues with the same conflict on their cobalts! http://www.topix.com. *tr

I have a 07 chevy cobalt and i was driving on the express way when my power steering light can on and as i was turning the wheel it locked up. i was very afraid do to the fact that my child was in the car. i pulled over on the shoulder and turned the car off. i didn't know what to do but i couldn't stay on the eway. when i started it back up the wheel loosened up but sure enough a couple miles down the road it did the samething. i am sending this complaint because i think that is very dangerous especially when you are trying to turn a corner or even switch lanes. in doing research about the part i located a site "topix chevy cobalt steering failure" were there is over five hundred post about the same thing. but yet recall on this car. when will they recall it when someone is seriously hurt or even killed!!!! *tr

2007 chevy has rattling noise and sounds like front end is falling off. took to dealer and was told the front end bushing(s) has to be replaced at a cost near 400.00. how many complaints do we need to make before a recall is in order. *tr

2007 chevy cobalt ss, front brake rotors obtain dangerous runout conditions. in my case the original set lasted 8000 miles, and the replacement obtained from dealer in july 2007 lasted 20000 miles. symptoms of this runout include heavy shutter of brake pedal and steering wheel at freeway speeds down to about 30mph and noticeable thumping in steering wheel at freeway speeds when not applying brakes. runout on rotors is so severe that it actually causes a ride disturbance without applying brakes. have address this issue with sierra chevrolet in monrovia to no avail. was simply told that i would have to purchase new rotors. no remedy appears to be available to correct this problem. apparently, there is a poor design of rotors or some type of issue with the brake pads being too aggressive. suspect rotors obtain heavy grooving within a few thousand miles. after grooving is noticed, the vibrations begin very subtle soon after and progress to the point to where the vibrations are noticeable even when not applying brakes. i am on my third set of rotors, and am fearful that general motors will never pay any attention to this potentially dangerous issue. i believe that perhaps a less aggressive brake pad needs to be used or some kind of problem exists with how the rotors seats to the hub. i am only familiar with this problem on the ss models, i also have a 2005 cobalt base model that has no issues with the brakes what so ever. many complaints noticed on the web forums for ss cobalts. these people have complained to their local dealers to no avail also. i have run out of options, other than to keep an extra set of pads and rotors available at all times at the cost of 450 dollars per set. dealer refuses to consider premature rotor wear as a warranty issue or any issue for that matter, forcing me to buy the parts and pay the labor for a problem that i have no control of. *tr

Driving down the road and hit a large rock-causing a hole in the oil pan. no lights or warning sounds went off notifying me that there was a hole in the oil pan and that oil was leaking out. vehicle is still at blue ribbon gmc in sallisaw ok, they are advising that they will not warranty any of the damages. *tr

Stock am/fm radio - cd player in vehicle would not power on upon start up of vehicle. problem would not replicate itself for the dealer, as it occurs at random intervals. no time would display on radio. no audio through speakers. *tr

I purchased a new 2007 cobalt on 8/1/07. i could not start the car at night on two occasions when i was trying to go to work as a nurse and the third time the car would not turn off . it kept running and was towed. *tr

I purchased a 2007 chevrolet cobalt in 2006 , they sold me the vehicle that they used for test driving, which i told them was out of line and they still made me purchase it. i bought it back a week later and they had to line it up because it was all over the road. a month later, the steering wheel would not turn, the service department told me i had to pay $1200.00 to get it fixed until i notified the district manager and he made them fix it.then the security air bag light stayed on and it would not pass inspection and they tried to make me pay for that. i have been spending money on tires all the time, spend money on brakes all the time, have problems with the electrical units to the radio keeps going out, bearings in the wheel is gone, and it keeps cutting off. i have had nothing but problems since i purchased this vehicle. i got a letter for the recall for the power steering and when i got my car back, the check engine light stays on, they messed up my boot and now telling me i need to fix it when they had someone to drive my car for 12 miles. now all i get is a lot of disrespect fromthem and they don't want to repair what they messed up. i also wanted to purchase another car last month for my son who graduated from college and i had to look through the windows to see vehicles instead of the salesman opening the door and letting me look in the inside. mind you i bought a 16,000.00 car from they and that's how they appreciate my business. i am heart broken because i feel as if i was robbed of my money. i should not have been given a car that they use for test driving. also the security airbag light would not go off and they would not let it pass inspection. *tr
