Takata recall on 3/30/18 i was involved in a wreck. i was traveling on a busy city street when the light turned red. i stopped and the person in front of me was driving a large suv. when the light turned green and traffic began to move i started driving. out of nowhere with no warning, the driver just stopped and my car ran into the back of the vehicle. we both stayed in our vehicles i called 911. officers arrived and emergency services. even though hardly any damage was done to the suv, my car sustained a lot of damage to the hood and bumper of my car. the airbags didn't deploy. i thought my car was totaled by looking at it. i was able to have most of my car repaired out of pocket because i had liability only at the time. the passenger in front of me after giving information to the responders was able to drive away, i was not. i've also had another accident where the airbags didn't deploy in 2014. i am concerned that i might be in another accident that could be life-threatening and the airbags won't work. i contacted gm about my concerns regarding the airbags and nothing was done to have my airbags checked. i was able to have the switch changed when there was a recall for that. i hope by sharing my experience with you something can be done to have my airbags checked and give me a sense of security when driving my vehicle.

My problems are came about with the electronic power steering on this vehicle as i have searched and found the problem too be very common. found that it has been widely recalled including my model year with numerous complaints too the nhtsa. the first time it happened i was getting ready too go to a doctors appointment, the power steering message came on the dashboard, everything seemed too be working except the speedometer and it drove fine. on the way back home however the car would no shift past first gear. i took it too a mechanic that lives next too me. he said the wiring harness was bad, replaced it, got it back. drove fine with no problems for three weeks, even the driver front blinker was working which had never worked since i got the car back in march of this year. then after the three weeks the power steering message came back on and all the same symptoms are back, no speedometer, hard shifting if any, it even caused the engine light too come on this time which an auto parts store determined too be a random misfire. i changed the spark plugs and it went off. my theory is that the tcm is not grounded correctly too handle this and shorts out as i have found that others have grounded the tcm and it has fixed all the problems too their claim. i searched recalls on my car using the vin and my car is not listed on it and since this has been recurring and i've had all the problems everyone else has noted i feel that is a great concern. the message and all the effects happen as soon as i start the car if it's going too happen (so far). it first happened on the date indicated and then again on 11/15/2016.

My wife was driving her car a 2006 chevy cobalt ls all of the sudden the dash board lights turned on as if it was being turned on from a cold start. the car started to buckle in the message board started to say power steering. she lost power steering and had to make an emergency stop. i checked the car that afternoon and nothing seemed fine then on a saturday afternoon it did the same thing to me. i took it to a mechanic to be scanned and the code u0073 popped up which is the control module bus ( communication buss was off). the transmission has not been shifting right, hard, rough shifts are being done. the idle drops and raises automatically. my door lock for he driver side does not open as well. this is really unsafe. *tr
Strange sounds thought it was hubs recently but on, wasn't. maybe the crankcase, wasn't. got louder, more concerned now that my son's were using it to go to work. realize the many recalls. non responsive gm. many weeks wait for replacement parts no loaners. *tr
While leaving from a parking lot my power steering gave out. it is electrical and affects the rest of the electrical in the car. transmission feels affected as well. when changing gears the engine will drop drastically creating a change in momentum and sending the driver and passenger forward. from reading online this seems to be an ongoing issue with 2005 and 2006 chevrolet cobalts. *tr
I've had several recalls on my car. air bags, power steering, ignition switch. i was only able to get 2 of these fixed because the others were not "valid" recalls for my vehicle. one of the issues the ignition switch recall has is that the car turns off. the car. turns. off. i don't know why and i don't know how. i just know, the car turns off. this has been a daily battle for me. it started a few months before the recall was released and continues to this day. i was driving across an intersection, the light just turned green, a few cars in front of me. i press the gas slightly & my car turns off. i wasn't even going 10 mph. i wasn't even going more than 5! another incident a few days prior, i was coming to another intersection and another car in the opposite direction was making a left so he was in the middle of the intersection. thankfully i was not going so fast that i could've stopped and he could've passed. just as i was approaching the lines to cross into the intersection, my car turned off again. my car is constantly turning off in the middle of rush hour traffic. thankfully it's traffic so it's going slow but it has happened that my car will just turn off in the middle of me actually driving! there have been many times that i am trying to make a turn and my car turns off. mid turn! in the middle of the street.do you know how dangerous that is? it just reminds me of those movies where those silly people get stuck on train tracks. why would you park or stay on a train track? oh, i know, just own a chevrolet! it'll constantly turn off. thankfully, i have not gotten stuck on a train track but what i have encountered is just as dangerous. i am constantly driving around with other people and children. my car constantly turning off, especially in the middle of the street is a great hazard to myself and my passengers. i fear my life driving this car. :( *tr
I was driving on a highway at 65 mph and the traction control light and check engine light on the dashboard came on and when i had to accelerate then the car started shifting really roughly. i was half way to my destination and then the traction control light went off and the car shifted smoothly on acceleration. the check engine light stayed lit but the car seem to run fine. when i got home i researched the issue and found that there was over 1800 complaints about this same issue. my car is now parked because i thinks its not reliable. i think this should be, yet, another recall for the cobalt. *tr

My key has been stuck in the ignition for a month now. it has caused my battery to die every time i leave it parked. i took my car to get the ignition recall fixed and when i asked if they could remove it they told me only at an additional cost because it was not part of the recall. when i got my car back i was given two new keys with one stuck in the ignition still. i was really confused as to why they said they couldn't remove my key without charging me when they obviously removed my old key to give me a new set and somehow managed to get it stuck again. after looking up how to fix it i believe the problem is with the shifter. there have been lots of complaints all over the internet with various chevrolet models regarding this same issue. *tr

Attention general motors, i received the many letters your company sent updating the status of the recall on my car. i appreciated your efforts in addressing the situation. i took my car to davis chevrolet in houston tx to cash in the recall voucher on 5/6/14. on 6/5/2014 i was told that my car was ready. i was not given a receipt. page 10, may, 2014, bulletin no: 14113b was left in my care. i was given a different style of key, key ring, and the same instructions to use prior to repairs. to add insult to injury, it says to make sure any driver knows about the (same) dangers of the original safety recall letters. i took the car back because it keeps stopping to the degree that i did not drive it unless i necessary. i was told that it may be the throttle from sitting up too long. they said i had to pay for it. i complained about not receiving paperwork. i received paper work that reads the car was not safe to drive. i was given an agent will who i asked if they put in the part that was being built for the car and he said yes. also, he told me the car was safe even before the repairs. how is the car considered repaired when it has the same limitations as in the recall letters? this remedy does not show any concern for consumers feeling of trust, safety, or comfort in your product. for example, it is a common occurrence for a family member to use a relatives car without the owner knowing it. it would be the most fatal experience to learn about it through that persons death because they did not know (or understand) the terms of what you consider a safe enough result. gm this tells consumers that you do not care. i am asking that you look at my case. i am trying not to take legal action. *tr
While driving the traction control light comes on randomly then begins to shift very ruff and hard. when it has been turned off the traction control light doesn't come until driving again for about 5 minutes. the shifting has made it difficult to drive and has almost caused me to be in accidents. *tr

The car randomly out of nowhere lost power and a check engine light comes on and says engine power reduced. this is extremely unsafe especially if this were to happen at freeway speeds. engine codes came back and provided that there are issues with the throttle position sensor. 4th recall on this vehicle and currently awaiting results from murdock chevrolet 2375 s 625 w, woods cross, ut 84087 (801) 298-8091. *tr
My car was taken to franklin motors on 05/15/2014 to replace the faulty ignition switch 14v047 & 14v171. i was given a rental car in the meantime. my car was returned to me 06/12/2014. that same night when i attempted to turn off my car and remove the key it was difficult. today, 06/13/2014, i attempted to turn off my car, and remove the key. the key would not turn, the car would not turn off, i could not take the car out of park. after several turns of the steering wheel and jiggling the keys the car finally turned off. my concern is that if the ignition was actually fixed as it should have been why am i having the same issues i had before it was taken to the dealership? i am now scared to drive this car. i have no other means of transportation. i have grandkids that i pick up and i need a safe car that i can trust. i no longer feel safe in this vehicle. franklin motors once again has my car. what do you suggest i do? how am i to feel safe in this vehicle once it is returned to me again? i want something done to ease my mind. i don't want to have to ride down the road and be one of gm's statistics that something happened to me because of a faulty vehicle that was supposedly fixed? thank you the dealer informed the consumer, the ongoing problems she continued to have, was due to a problem with the gear shifter, and had nothing to do with the ignition. updated 1/6/2015 *js
The car does not want to shift from first to second gear and when it does, it is very jerky. acceleration is very limited. *tr

There is a bcm (body control module) problem in all cobalts which hasn't came to light yet it's very dangerous. it's all over the internet and there are videos on youtube, search for "cobalt electrical problems" "cobalt power steering warning" this problem will cause the car gauges to go crazy and it will say engine light, power steering, the transmission goes into safe mode and shifts very hard and then car wants to chug and stall while your driving forcing you to pull over if possible to avoid causing a major accident and then you have to turn the car off this just as dangerous or more dangerous then the ongoing ignition switch recall. while looking on the internet for answers to why this is happening i have found lot's and lot's of other people who are having the exact same problems i have a 2006 ss cobalt and this is what is happening to me. it has happened 5 times in the last 2 months, i have made arrangement with a gm dealer from where i have purchased the car to have the bcm (body control module) replaced at my expense and hopefully this will make my car safer. but i don't know if it will for sure. *i repeat this is not related to the on going ignition switch recall on the 2005-2010 chevrolet cobalt models, this is another safety issue that needs to be addressed and investigated right away. please take action right away to avoid further loss of lives* *tr
I just recently purchased a cobalt 2006 but after 3weeks my steering did not respond the way i was controlling it did not allow me to make a perfect turn made me do a sharp turn since i felt the adjustments get hard but then it loosened up allowed me to take control how a driver is suppose to control his own car not letting your car take control of me the driver. currently it got repossesed just because i lost my job but now that i found out its dangerous on the road. thinking that day i lost control for about 10 sec. what about if it could be more dangerous next time and my nephews, my family can get hurt not just me this time in the car with me and one of my family or me can loose a life but the dealer did not notify me on this safety recall when signed but now they don't want to transfer cars even though i can pay monthly. please help me soon as possible don't got a car to take/back to work for these 3 weeks. *tr
When my daughter exited her car she grabbed her backpack from the passenger seat. one of the straps from the backpack hooked around the shifter and moved it to neutral. we did not know the shifter did not lock when you put it in park.the car started rolling backward down our driveway with the drivers door open. the door caught one of our trees in our yard pinning it against the front fender damaging the door and front fender. she had her key in her hand so the ignition was not on. after reading on the internet several of these shifters are defective. this is a dangerous issue that gm is ignoring. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet cobalt. the contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the power steering failed and the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. the power steering warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. the contact mentioned that the transmission shifted and made a loud clicking noise. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 44,000 and the current mileage was 77,000.
First i had the control arm bushing replaced twice within the first year of owning it, the car was bought brand new. the last two years the car started to chug at stops display would read reduced power mil light would come on i had to stop the car, disconnect the battery then it would go away and could drive it. this last year the car will now upon starting the display will read power steering, security system locked this car does not have a security system, the gauges go haywire car dings low fuel, when trying to move the car shifts very hard, brake pedal hard to push, car surges and chugs when stopped.
Started car, shifter would not lock into any gear and the keys were locked in the ignition. googled the problem and was told to open the compartment under the steering column to release keys, but it did not repair the gear shifter. took to local repair shop and was told these break all the time and that chevy keeps the parts in stock because they know the shifters break due to the metal post inside breaking the cheap plastic casing of the shifter control. why has this not been recalled? my son was stuck in ny city at l in the morning with no way to get home. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet cobalt. the contact stated that while sitting in her parked vehicle, it rolled back and crashed into a porch. a police report was filed. the contact sustained bruises and abrasion on her arms. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 76,000. *tr
I was pulling out onto the street with many cars approaching from a traffic light and i began to press down the gas pedal so i could safely get up to speed and i noticed the car not accelerating for the amount of pressure i was applying on the gas pedal the traction control light came on and stayed on and the transmission started jerking into all the gears, i drove it home 8 miles turned off the car and restarted the car and light had reset itself this same thing has happened three more times since this first time. all occurred on drive pavement no ice or other wet conditions. i've searched online and have seen many other people are have been reporting the same problem with the traction control light staying on and loss of power to the transmission and jerky shifting, in pretty much every year the cobalt model was manufactured by chevrolet i believe this is a major safety issue that general motors should have a recall to fix these issues but, has not done so to this day, before i and other people driving the chevrolet cobalt get hurt or hurt other drivers because of these malfunctions that our out of our control. *tr
My key is stuck in the ignition. the car is off however, the lights and radio will not turn off. *tr

Since i bought this car in may of 2011 i have had nothing but problems. in march of 2012 my fuel pump went out while i was driving due to a recall from several years earlier, which i don't understand why it wasn't replaced before i bought the car especially if i bought if from a dealership. in january of 2013 my gear shift assembly went out luckily after i was done driving and in the process of parking which resulted in my keys getting locked in the ignition. a month later my switch board stopped working in my steering wheel which turns off my signals when i turn and my keys still occasionally get locked in my ignition. my o2 sensor just went out, shortly after i got the car i learned one of my valve covers is leaking oil, and i just replaced my ignition coil pack! i am afraid to drive this car any longer especially with the new recall about the ignition. this car is a hazard to anyone driving it. i should not have this many issues when i have only owned the car for three years. i believe gm should recall the whole car. i tried taking my car to the dealership in february to inquire about the recall and they sent me away and said to wait to receive something in the mail to see if my car qualifies. seriously??? i'm not sure what actions i should take to ensure my safety. i don't have the money to fix this car that has everything under the hood failing all at once! every day i drive this car i am putting myself in danger. any information back would be greatly appreciated. thank you. *tr
Gear shifter gets stuck. i have to go under my hood and pull the cord in order to release the gear shifter to come out of park. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet cobalt. the contact stated that the ignition key failed to release and the gear shift lever shifted out of park independently. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the technician replaced that the r&r solenoid key release, solenoid key lock and shifter assembly. the vehicle was included in recall nhtsa campaign number: 14v04700 (air bags, electrical system) and nhtsa campaign number: 14v171000 (electrical system). the manufacturer was notified of the issue. the approximate failure mileage was 64,927.
The throttle body becomes extremely 'gunked up,' causing the engine to shut off if the rpms drop too fast. it happens most often when coming up to stop lights. however, the most dangerous time (which caused me to get rear ended due to not being able to immediately speed up) is when i switch lanes on the highway. i let my car slow down by removing my foot from the pedal, switch lanes, and when i put my foot on the pedal, i don't speed up. why?? because the engine shut off when i first removed my foot from the pedal and let the rpms drop! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet cobalt. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the power steering seized and the vehicle stalled. the contact had to wait a few seconds to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. after diagnosis, the contact was advised that the anti theft module had failed and was later replaced. immediately after the repair, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was approximately 97,000. the current mileage was approximately 109,507. updated 03/07/13*lj the consumer stated the power steering will shut off, the transmission will shift very roughly, the instrument cluster go on and off,and the car will die at various speeds. when this failure occurred the steering would lock up. recently, 02/13/2013, the vehicle had no power steering then, it suddenly turned on nearly causing the vehicle to fly off the road. updated 03/11/2013 *js
