This issue seems to be a common problem with the 2005 cobalt. please research any car complaint websites about this certain vehicle. even though all the recalls have been taken care of, while in motion, at any time and any speed, the dash lights starts flashing and you get the message power steering on message center, tc light comes on, light that shows padlock symbol comes on, rpm needle jumps up and down, steering wheel locks up, motor surges and shakes, and you hear all types of clicking sounds below gear shifter. this is a very dangerous thing and chevrolet/gm just cannot seem to fix this issue or even find anything wrong. the 2005 cobalt needs to be recalled and any other year of cobalt having this issue. i will give you below the last date this has happened, but this has went on since we got the car in 2008. my daughter is in school in kansas city, and this issue has happened quite frequently lately. the only remedy is to pull to side of road, shut off vehicle and restart and hope it does not act up again. i just wonder how may deaths have happened already because of this faulty gm product and no one knew it was because of what the cobalt did, locked up on its driver.

The power steering on my vehicle cuts off and the speedometer remains rested at 0 when driving. the doors also lock and unlock on their own while driving. the car does not automatically shift while driving making it hard to accelerate and the vehicle will also decelerate on its own while driving it is very dangerous and very scary to drive with these problems. the dealership claims that the problem with steering has already been fixed but i am still having these problems.

The lights all over the car intermittently work and not work, the battery drains and have replace the battery 4 times.this has been going on since i got the car withe the lights. the steering thing just started, when you make a turn the steering binds up as if the power steering is going out. also acts as if the car is going to stall. this only happens when you are in drive position. in park it doesn't do this. the power steering fluid levels are perfect. also, when this issue starts, the speedometer needle bounces up to 40 mph even though you are at a stop. the radio will suddenly turn full blast sound for about 2 seconds and turn back down. scares me half to death. there is a major electrical problem in this car for lights to work one time and then next time not. i go through light bulbs like crazy, every couple of months i am changing a different bulb. and the steering issue is unsafe, the car could stall while trying to turn across traffic. still after having all recalls completed, the car is still not safe.

While driving vehicle power steering light comes on, steering wheel locks up, gear shift starts clicking, stalling out during driving at speed. i have ran off road several times and have to use both hands to turn a curve because of steering locked.

Gm replaced ignition parts and shifter mechanism as per recall. shortly after issues began with steering locking up, transmission not shifting and various warning lights flashing. this became more frequent and is now impossible to drive. my technician says it is a body or transmission control module costing well over a thousand dollars. there appear to be 100s of 1000s of the same issue as per search engines. i will contact my local gm dealership. if gm will not back up its product it will be the last gm in my driveway. i will trade in on a toyota.

I was stopped in line of traffic and had to move to the right slightly to get out of a firetruck's way (not in a jerking and forceful movement, but normal turning of steering wheel). when i tried to get back into the line of traffic, the steering wheel was extremely difficult to move and i heard electrical motor noises coming from behind the steering wheel. these noises continued for 10-20 seconds and then the power steering message came on the display. this now happens every time i start my car and steering has become very difficult, especially turns at slow speeds. i researched the issue, and was told on the gm hotline that my vin did not match the recall from 2010 pertaining to the power steering. i took the car to an independent mechanic, who also called gm and was informed about the recall when inquiring about parts. he did not fix or remove any parts, but wrote a note on paper indicating i was having the same issue as that recall. i again called the gm hotline, who again told me my vin was not covered and that gm would not include my vehicle in the recall. they advised me to take it to a dealer, who i have an appointment with on saturday, 4/11, more than 2 weeks after the problem occurred. *tr

Throughout the course of my trip home the car dash kept flashing a power steering error message and the lights on the dashboard kept getting dim. the steering wheel was getting really tight, the car almost stalled out several times, and the dials fluctuated. the car also began to shake violently and i became afraid that i would not make it home. i have contacted the local chevrolet dealership about this problem on multiple occasions and they refuse to even look at the car without charging me. the car has already been recalled twice and although i have had both recall repairs done i am still having problems. every time i drive this car i fear for the lives of my family. *tr

While exiting interstate highway, decelerating on a right-curving ramp, it became extremely difficult to turn the steering wheel. this has repeated in a number of other situations since, turning both right and left while accelerating, decelerating, and from a full stop, especially on turns of 90 degrees or more, but also in highway situations such as lane changes. operator has not noticed any trouble lights before, during or after occurrences, or heard any particular sounds or experienced any smells.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cobalt. after having the vehicle serviced under nhtsa campaign numbers: 14v171000 (electrical system) and 10v073000 (steering), the power steering failed and the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 24,000.

Car was recalled in 2010 for power steering. previous owner had it fixed. i initially reported back in january 2014 of recurring problem of losing power steering while driving. i was told it was already fixed so i would have to pay out of pocket to fix same problem as the recall. here it is a year later and i'm still having the same problem with the power steering. the speedometer started flickering back and forth going haywire and there was a weird ticking noise in the area near the gearshift. i had to pull over on the side of the highway and was almost struck by a tractor trailer because the power steering locked up on me and i had my 3 kids in the car. i was told that i needed a new coil pack, it was replaced and it's still doing the same thing. it shakes at red lights and occasionally cuts off. i have to press the pedal to the floor to get it to accelerate which it does but very slowly, and then it just takes off like a rocket and i have no control over it. this is very dangerous!! also my car can switch gears without having to press the brake or the button in the gearshift. i can just simply push the gearshift back and forth without being in the car. while backing out of my driveway my kneecap bumped my keys and my car turned off. there needs to be another recall of the power steering because apparently the replacement parts are faulty as well. or it could be the faulty wiring altogether in the system. these chevy cobalts need to be taken off of the streets and owners reimbursed for the car plus all of the trouble and near death experiences that we have to continue to experience on gms behalf. i have read several other complaints about the power steering being fixed and still have the same results as myself. how many people will have to die or another lawsuit presented before there's another recall to have these cars removed permanently off the roads? *tr

It beeps and reads power steering every time we drive it, no power steering. *tr

My power steering failed without warning while driving on the freeway it still assist randomly but has dead spots as you turn the wheel and is very inconsistent every time i drive the car it acts differently this makes the car even more unsafe to drive because the wheel doesn't return to center and also has easy and hard spots as you turn the wheels to steer they recalled 1 million cars of the same make for power steering loss why is mine not recalled if it is not safe to drive gm has been caught hiding problems why are people like me endangering their own lives because gm cant be honest and open about the issues with their cars i feel like im in a death trap i am still waiting on the ignition switch recall part to come in its been well over a month since the dealer said the parts would be a few weeks im just hoping i don't have a takata airbag. *tr
