Problems with 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The speedometer on my 2005 cavalier has been broken for about a month now. it usually stays around 0, but will sometimes get stuck at various incorrect speeds. i had the output sensor changed, and it made no difference. my mechanic hooked his computer up to the car and it says that nothing is wrong with it. i was told that changing the input sensor, which is inside the transmission will cost about $750 and take 11 hours to do. i have 2 mechanics looking for solutions, but they have found none so far. *tr

This is a problem i inherited from the previous owner. i bought the car with approximately 50000 miles on it. the fuel gauge is never accurate. most of the time it reads past full and into the adjacent temperature gauge. twice i have been forced to walk to a gas station because i ran out of gas when i didn't know i was low. this is a major safety issue because i could be hit by a car walking along a highway trying to get gas. i'm also concerned that the faulty gauge will interfere with my temperature gauge causing my car to overheat without me knowing. *tr

My speedometer on my 2005 chevy cavalier sticks whenever it is cold. it'll be stuck on 40mph when im parked. it will eventually go back down only to stick again a few days later. seems like a lot of people are having the same problem. safety recall?? or can i just send chevy the speeding ticket because i have no idea how fast i'm going?? *tr

I recently purchased a used 2005 chevy cavalier. the speedometer does not work. the needle will move clockwise but does not go back down when i slow down--thus, by the time i park my car at my destination, the speedometer needle is basically pointing straight down. the problem gets worse the longer i drive (in one trip). i think it also gets worse the faster i go. because of this problem, the speedometer is essentially useless. i haven't driven the car much because i recently bought it, so i am not sure how often this problem will occur. *tr

Horn contact behind airbag was recently crazy glued, to restore horn, and speedo & cluster requires replacement of entire cluster by chevy, or removal & rebuild of gauge stepper motors through ebay motors. use froogle.com and enter"repair cavalier speedometer" to search. my speedo only on my cluster erratic for 20k miles. i use my tachometer to guestimate highway speeds,2,500 rpm is 55. i have 120k now on the car, otherwise bulletproof. just tossing out brake rotors now, that's it. i used synthetic oil from the start, very smooth car, @ normal speeds.needs intake and wheels for speeding, over 65. engine has plenty of go over that, but base brakes, wheels and intake aren't speedworthy, but it is a base model so ok. keep the tie rods greased, air filters changed after winter as they are easily serviceable unlike most that aren't. *tr

The speedometer quits working. as im sitting still its saying 85 mph as im driving says 110mph. then it will start working again and the next time i drive it stops again and says a high speed as im sitting still and a very high speed when im driving! *tr

Gauges on dashboard have failed. all lights come on and gauges fail. speedometer says i'm going 60 mph when the car is stopped. water temp gauge is not functioning and the indicator gets in the way off the speedometer indicator. *tr

I have a 2005 chevrolet cavalier. the car's speedometer, temperature gauge, rpm gauge and fuel gauge do not work. when i made this complaint to the chevrolet dealer where the vehicle was purchased they said that it wasn't a warranty issue because it didn't deal with any safety issue. i disagree because how could it not be a safety problem, if you can't tell how fast you are going or if your out of gas or if your car is overheating. the dealer acted like it was not a common problem, but all you have to do is go on the internet and there are hundreds of thousands of these same complaints, and not just in the 2005 models it goes back to 1998. the dealer did say that the could replace the cluster but that it would cost me over $500.00. well, i cannot afford it. also if you look through some of the complaints online there are people on there that have had their clusters replaced by the dealer and they still are not working properly. so what are we supposed to do? i also found out that chevrolet did recall the same complaints in the silverado trucks. so why not do the same for the cavaliers? please help. *tr

2005 caalier fuel and speedometer guages stopped working

When cold outside the temperature gauge will read inaccurate temperatures and gauge is stuck to far left and does not budge. a week later the gas gauge also gave out. do not know how much gas in tank! was driving across the state on a vacation trip and was using cruise control. once taken off cruise control the speedometer is stuck at 65mph and will not change. very dangerous. going on long distance trips and not knowing how much gas, my speed or the temperature of the internal system is scary indeed. *tr

2005 chevy cavalier, gauges started going haywire around 50k miles. temp gauge soared and i thought the car was overheating. we were out of town and in heavy traffic, but had to immediately pull over and stop the car "to let it cool off." my son was violently ill at the time and we had gone to pick him up on his job because he could not drive home and we needed to get him to a doctor asap. what a nightmare! we considered getting a rental and calling a tow truck to tow the cavalier home, but when we could find no signs of overheating, we proceeded with caution. this continued to occur over and over again. then several months later, the gas gauge stopped working properly. seems the needles have a mind of their own. there are multitudes of online compaints about this defect. i wish everyone had filed a formal complaint. but since it is a safety issue, a recall should be issued by chevrolet. the dealership says the only fix is to replace the parts (which only they can do) at a cost to the consumer of $500. *tr

Rear directional turn signals have stopped operating ( left rear signal lamp) front left signal lamp operates at a rapid rate, left rear signal lamp will not flash, but both rear lamp bulbs are illuminated. *tr

The vehicles gauges are not working properly and the vehicle is not safe to drive. the temperature gauge goes past hot, even though the car is not driving hot, and goes into the speedometer. when this happens, the need from the temperature gauge stops the speedometer needle from moving past the 15 mph location. this is very dangerous because you are driving faster then 15 mph, but only showing 15 mph. the rpm gauge also does not work properly. there are many complaints on this web site about the same problem with the gauges, and the vehicle should be recalled and gm should fix the problem. *tr
