Problems with 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier EQUIPMENT

Fuel pump failure. on march 2nd 2011 i had a fuel pump fail as i was driving home from work almost causing an accident. after research i discovered this is a very common occurrence for this vehicle which is a 2004 chevy cavalier. this could result in a very dangerous situation for cavalier owners such as myself. is there anything at all that is being done to look into this problem? *tr

Gas gauge went haywire which interfered with the temperature gauge, which interfered with the speedometer. i have seen over 1,000 complaints of the same nature. gm needs to recall and fix this problem. 2004 chevrolet cavalier. *ln

This is the second problem i've had with this. clutch problems due to a faulty hydraulic line in a 2004 chevy cavalier. first incident occurred may 1st when the master to slave hydraulic hose split open (was told by the ase certified repair person this should never have happened). this was a dealer only part and there are no used parts available for this. now there are no leaks, but clutch still sticks to the floor. driving fine, then no clutch to put car into correct gear. had happened intermittently, but today i was in the middle of morning rush hour traffic. almost caused several accidents when car stalled after idling really low. shut off car while sitting at a red light-- finally after a fight with the stickshift, got into gear so i could get to a parking lot. after looking on-line for solutions and a closer repair shop, realizing this happens quite a bit to owners. i'm scared to have my 4 month old daughter in my car and would rather have her in a 1988 mazda that the seatbelts don't click back. this is a very dangerous problem and should be addressed immediately since it happens during normal driving. if i wouldn't have had some quick thinking on my part, i probably would be in the hospital right now. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 chevrolet cavalier. while driving 55 mph, the vehicle stopped in the middle of the interstate without warning. the vehicle was towed to a repair shop and the mechanic stated that the fuel pump failed. the dealer was not notified. in addition, the contact heard a tapping nose in the heater and the cd player does not work. there were also two motor swtices repaired in the windows. the vehicle is currently being repaired at the contact's expense. the failure and current mileages were 78,000.

I have a 2004 chevy cavalier ls sport. well lets first start off with my drivers side window motor. it went out about a year and half ago and we fixed it this summer. apparently it is a huge problem but of course no recall on it so paid almost 300 dollars myself to fix it. then after that when i would start my car and put it into drive, the car would sputter and the abs and trac off lights would come on. next about 5 months ago i noticed that my gas gauge was fluctuating a little. didn't give it much thought but then 2 months ago my temp gauge was going haywire. called the dealer and they said that there was no recall and we would have to pay to have it fixed. well we all know money is tight so i have left it. low and behold late last week, the mph gauge said i was going 100 mph in a 35 zone. i had to take a double look. dealer again says no recalls. after speaking to a friend, he said that his truck did the same thing along with another co-workers truck (gm trucks) and that they took it in because it had a recall on the "instrument cluster" and there was no charge. how come cavaliers are having the problem and nothing, but there trucks have it and there is a recall. i cant tell how fast i am going. now i am probably going to have to just go with the flow of traffic since i cant afford to fix it. come on gm own up to all of your mistakes please..........there are tons of logged complaints on here about it, obviously it is a real problem gm. this is why we are going foreign with our cars now. *tr

I bought my car, a 2004 chevy cavalier with 21 miles on it. since then i have tried to return it and now the minor but frequent issues are much bigger and more frequently! first my trunk latch broke a week after purchase. the cd broke the next week, cigarette lighter broke, and passenger seat wouldn't move. this was the first two months of ownership. a few months ago the fuel gauge broke, temp gauge and ac. they couldn't verify it so couldn't repair, until it completely failed this month. also, i was left stranded at 2:30 am with my 3 year old son when the clutch fell through the floor. it was repaired and now the rpms shoot up to 6000, is unresponsive to any pedals, and requires turning the engine off. this happened in san francisco on highway 101, i am truly afraid for the safety of myself. son, and others driving this car or near one. there are many other unmentioned things that have occurred, too many to tell in this summary. they of course can't duplicate this major problem and therefore can't "correct." also they state it doesn't fall under lemon, but what is at stake our lives. *jb

My 2004 chevrolet cavalier gauges quit working. i have been online and done some research and i am not the only one with this problem. they have many people that have complained about it. please do a recall so we can get this problem fixed. once my warranty of 30 days was up that's when everything quit working. *tt

I have had problems with brake grinding since i bought my 04 cavalier. it has been into the dealership 3 times and each time i was told there was only rust build up and it was sanded off only to reccur. the last time in the dealership, i was told my car was no longer under warranty and if i wanted a brake job done it would be in excess of $140.00...this...was for the same problem the car was in for the previous 2 times and no new brakes installed..only the rust ground off. my check engine light periodically goes off and on and the dealership cannot determine why. i no longer have any lights on my radio/cd player..i can play cd's and use the radio but have no idea what station etc i am on. shortly after this occurred in like 2 weeks, i lost my speedometer...it works briefly and then sticks at 90 mph ( the odometer works however) the dealership checked fuses and said all was fine. they said it appeared to be a cluster module and even though the part was not that expensive, the labor would be the most because it entailed them removing the dash board. the cost factor of over $400 was verbally given to me. i live on a fixed income and cannot afford this. they said there were no recalls and given my car is off warranty, i would need to absorb this cost myself. i bought this car brand new and feel that after less than 2 years of owning it, these problems should not have happened. i gave an estimated account of dates of incident been they have been on going and can be verified through the dealership i bought it from as i have taken it no where else for service. i am registered with carstats and there have been several complaints of the same things i am experiencing. *jb

My speedometer on my 2004 chevy cavalier has stopped working i have noticed alot if 2000 models with this issue. *tr

Dt: consumer stated that the wiring harness behind the dashboard went bad, and then there was a clicking noise from the front end. consumer stated that there appeared to be an electrical problem with the vehicle because the radio had to replaced 3 times, and the alarm went off at random. also, dealership replaced the body module control unit. the front end had a service bulletin on the wheel covers and the clicking noise was a result of this. they have fixed the problem with the wheel covers twice. *ak

Dt*: the contact stated that there were three problems with the vehicle. the automatic windows failed to roll either up or down. the second problem occurred with the trunk; water continually leaked into the trunk. the third problem was related to the brakes; they were no longer working at only 25000 miles. the brake light illuminated and made a squealing noise as soon as brake pressure was applied. the dealer determined the trunk was not installed properly. although the dealer fixed the trunk, the problem persists. when it rain, water still leaks in the trunk. the water leak has been an ongoing problem since july 2003.

The trunk latch on my cavalier won't latch. this is the second time it has broke with the same problem. i replaced the trunk latch about three years ago i rarely use my trunk. also the defrost,vent knob quit working it turn but won't switch to defrost or the different vent settings. the cd player won't take, or play cd's. there was a fly on my windshield right around a year after i bought the car and i barely tapped the windshield and the windshield cracked all over. *tr
