Driving on highway. 2003 chevy cavalier just started losing power and then died on highway. had to wait 1 hr. for aaa to come to tow in 111 degree heat. turns out to be a faulty fuel pump. *tr

Trans axle went out april 09 with a horrible mess of oil, steering rack replaced 6 months later, driver side window/ motor problem, fuel pump went 75,000 a bit shy of a year later. now my defrost isn't working; possibly the switch 85,000. had brakes done twice so far with leaks; this includes hydraulics, rotors, pads, shoes etc. my steering has seized while driving. this car has been a very expensive inconvenience. *ln

Car wouldn't start after putting gas in it. car was towed to chevy dealer, fuel pump replaced, and after three days car wouldn't start again. *tr

I want to make it clear i have taken over payments of this car and will have title when it is paid off. the car had been running great except for the a/c no longer works, and i was driving getting up to 40 mph and the car just died, i couldn't get it to restart it ended up being the fuel pump went out, it was quite expensive to fix. *tr

Speedometer sticking at 80 to 160 mph, even though the car has never ever been driven at those speeds, speedometer registars anwhere from 10mph to over the limit of the speedometer (180mph) when the car is shut off or stopped. this started at 25,000 miles on the odometer. the temperature gauge started registering over the red (and has actually touched the speedometer gauge needle) approximately 1 year later started at 32,000 miles. at 39,000 the gas gauge started doing the same thing. i have been driving with a portable garmin nuvi gps since 2008, just to use the estimated speed in the hopes i will not get a speeding ticket. the first time i looked down and saw my speedometer at 85 mph, i instinctively slammed on the brakes, and was extremely lucky no one was behind me. i was only going 50 mph at the time this happened. i now have a teen driver, and i cannot allow her to drive this car because she is not experienced enough to estimate her speeds. i will never know if my car trulely overheats because it overheats on the gauge 3-5 times a week. i have to fill my gas based on when i filled it last & how many miles i have driven since as i have no idea how much gas i have. this can be a very dangerous situation, that can lead to death and injury, as a told you my experience with instinctively slamming on the brakes, and i would hate to see what happens if i run out of gas unknowingly in the 3rd lane of an expressway. i also own a 2002 chevy cavalier whose gas gauge registars 1/4 of a tank when it is empty. i spend over $450 at a garage to find out that the car was not breaking down, but was actually running out of gas. the 2003 chevy cavalier of course has the more dangerous problem with the entire instrument cluster a mess. unfortunately, the vecicle was not still under warranty with the low mileage, as it had been over 3 years. when are you going to do something about these cars? lets hope i'm not driving in ...

On 2003 chevy cavalier the wiper motor transmission assembly is made up with a plastic snap bushing . when it wears out the wiper does not work. the arm comes apart. on my cavalier it happened 4 times in the last 2 and half years .3 times drivers side 1 passenger. when you are on the road in a down pour it is hard to see where you are going . some one is going to get killed because of this problem. jess appleby *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2003 chevrolet cavalier. the contact started the vehicle and activated the air conditioning control switch, which operated only on the high temperature mode selector. there were no warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection and they replaced a component in the blower unit. over a period of time, the heater and air conditioning system failed to operate. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on two separate occasions for identical failures, in which the blower unit was replaced. the vehicle is currently being repaired again. the failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 25,600.

The speedometer does not work properly it can say that i am going 90 when i am going only 35 also the heat gauge next to it will go way over into the speedometer area which then they hit each other which causes them to not work properly also the gas gauge does not work right either when i get low enough for the check gauge light to come on it will start going up saying that i have a half tank of gas even though i know that i do not. *tr

Brake failure, 1st happened at 1024 miles, dealer reluctley fixed it, happened again at 19.500, dealer and gm refused to fix.

While turning on the turn signals the turn they failed to come on. consumer took vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and the mechanic replaced the bulb and socket. the consumer informed the mechanic that this problem occurred more than once and had not been resolved. *ak the right and left rear turn signal failed, there was shaking in the dash when the blower was on due to the a/c accumulator. *sc

I bought the car brand new arround 04/2003 chevrolet cavalier 2003 since then i reported several times back to the dealer ship with the following problems:drivetrain - clunk noise during low speed turns a/c - difficult mode/temperature setting operation . steering - momentary loss of power assist. steering - rattle/knock when turning wheels - front/rear wheel squeaking noise ---all those complaints are never been taken care off - they allways had some "low excuses for me - like the wheater/rain/dirt on the wheels (i live in the city ...not on a dirt road..) anyway the only complaint they taken serious is that i brought in the car now for the 3rd time to repair the right signal light - last time just today! i reported again all the other problems, with the sucess that they at least orderd now a "new part" for the a/c, everything else is again been "played" down. honestly, i'm getting tired of having so much trouble with a new car. bringing it to the dealership always cost me a nearly a whole day of missing work. i would like to know if there is any way to fix all tjose problems for once and all or does a customer from chevrolet just has to suffer and put up with such a poor quality?!*ak

There are numerous things, and the delaership has convinced gm, because i wrote gm about the problems with this, that i am making this stuff up to get an suv. first the radio wasn't working, they put the cable back on said it was loose, its still not sounding like a radio should. next was the popping in the front end, dealership turned rotors, under warranty back brakes squealed real loud they said it was dust i had to pay for that. back brakes still squeal, front end still pops like a bad cv joint. trunk wouldn't shut had to keep slamming it. took it back they greased it worked for awhile starting to get hard to shut sometimes. brake lights and back lights and cruise control quit working . took it to dealership at least 5 or 6 times till they finally replaced it how long it will last i don't know. front sun visor popped when it hung up in rear view mirror real floppy can't use it no more dealer said they ordered it in december. still waiting not fixed. real bad odor of gas in car when tank is half full, no explanation as to why. seat belt makes a funny noise when you are wearing it, pins you back against seat real hard. no explanation for that. have to stop and jerk on it to loosen it like a seat belt should work. dealer says i am imagining this stuff because i do not want car, bought it new still paying for it. been trying to get rid of it they have everyone convinced i am a psycho woman wanting an suv and thats why i am complaining that is all false. just plain hate a car i am paying for.*ak

2003 chevrolet cavalier experienced problems with brake lights, turn signals, and tail lights.***no answer required***. *mr the brake lights and tail lights shorted out many times, the tail light socket was also replaced. the consumer received a recall letter #04v524000. the consumer took the vehicle to have the service performed, however that did not seem to remedy the problem. the vehicle has been in the shop on numerous occasions regarding this problem, the consumer did not believe her vehicle was satisfactorily repaired. the cd would not eject. the right side power window made a noise when it was rolled down. *jb

The consumer had taken the vehicle to the dealer for a regular oil maintenance and the dealer stated the vehicle needed front alignment. the dealer replaced the front struts. the vehicle had 3700 miles. *ak noise had come from the dashboard, when the left door was closed, when the vehicle was driven over bumps, and when the door was closed. there was static in the radio due to looseness, and there was a rattle noise in the rear, near the exhaust, when closed. *scc the hinges were repaied, due to a noise in the door. *jb

The tires shake and vibrate around sixty miles/hr. so i took them to sam's club to their tire center in december of 2003. they rotated and balanced the tires. i drove the car for one month, then the tires started doing the same thing over again. about one month later, i went back to sam's club and they balanced my tires again. so here it is march of 2004, the tires are doing the same thing again shaking and vibrating around sixty miles/hr. i called goodyear , they told me to bring the car in. they looked at the tires, and said that the rear tires were worn on the inside, and that i would have to take the car back to the dealership to get the tires fixed. they could not diagnose the specific origin of the vibration. basically, for a brand new car, we should not have these kind of problems at 24,000 miles (as stated by mechanics from goodyear, sam's club and firestone). 5. cruise control switch- if right turn signal is used when cruise control is activated, the cruise control will automatically deactivate itself. 6. power failure- car all of a sudden lost power while at a stoplight. 7. a/c & heater- a/c and heater make loud noise. 8. rear turn signal light bulbs burned out 4 times on each side. gm replacement bulbs last only 1 to 1 1/2 month. *nm

Problem started same week i purchase vehicle brand new. gmc would not exchange vehicle, they just kept repairing it as it broke down. i feel very unsafe in this vehicle, they did not care. clutch was rubbing against main line, failed twice. rear lights burned out 3 times, springs on seats popped out 3 times, gas pump went out once, heater/ac went out twice, locks would not open, 3 times, pain chipped off bumper, once. rear seat clips snapped, once. headlights, water leaked in. twice i had a head on collision in june/2007...air bag did not deploy. *jb
