Problems with 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

My 2003 chevrolet cavalier started to stall on the i-5 freeway in san diego california. i managed to coast to an exit ramp where my car completely stalled at the bottom of the ramp in the middle of a lane. i had to call and have my car towed to the dealership. it was the dealership that determined the fuel pump was faulty and needed to be replaced. it was replaced and has been fine since. this repair cost me approximately $800. *tr

On friday night i parked my car as i usually do and on monday morning at 7:00 am it started fine. after dropping off my eight year old son at the before care of his school, i drove 2.73 miles and my car went completely dead and the lights turned on after applying slightly more pressure on the gas pedal going not more than 30 mph in a 35 zone in order to go up a slight, hardly noticeable incline and my mileage had just reached 83,934. i was on the left hand side of the road without a side to pull over to and luckily there was no car in the right hand lane because i barely had enough time to move over into the right hand lane and as far to the side as i possibly could. here i was now with my two year old daughter stuck near another school where parents were hurriedly trying to drop off their children and traffic was building up around me quickly. i had to get out of my car and try to push my car as far out of the way as possible (i am only a 119 lbs girl so of course i did not make it far). my husband was still sleeping and he did not hear my frantic calls, so i had to call a girl that lived across town who i worked with to request her to pick-up my two year old daughter, call a tow-truck to request them to come and get my car out the commuters way asap, and i then wrote a note, put it on the windshield of the car with my cell # stating that i walked to safeway which was 1.71 miles back down the street in order to meet my ride as we were not in a safe area and i was afraid of the angry people trying to drive around us as fast as possible and my two year old baby was upset. a few minutes after we walked into the safeway, a police office who had read my note called me, told me that i had done the right thing, and made sure that we didn't need a ride and we were okay. five minutes later my ride picked us up, took us to my car where we waited for the tow truck, and then helped guide ...

After driving the car to the store, i returned to attempt to start the car, it stuttered and i tried again. car would not start, after inspecting intake i noticed antifreeze and oil in it. i called for a tow and a diagnostic from a shop to find that i had 30psi in cylinders 2,3 and 170 in cyl 1 and 4. i now had a blown head gasket. after having it repaired, went to start the car to give symptoms of a bad fuel pump. car now has 71,000 miles. 3 days after buying a new impala. perhaps chevy is not the best brand to commit to. *tr

For the past year my vehicle has stalled in traffic while running going to 0 rpm but restarting. the i found is effecting all 2003 caviliers , it was my fuel pump. i am at a rock and a hard place because i had to get fixed and could not shop around. i had to spend over 600.00 and i could not affiord to everything that recomended done . the car is not even paid off, if there is a problem the cars should have therecall. i was on interstate 95 where speed limit is 70 miles per hour it is a miracle that i was not killed by a truck this is a trucking route in florida. please look into this it is so dangerous and it is happening with all cavaliers. *tr

My chevy cavalier 2003 just stopped on me without any notice. got to go to work and car would not start. it has 45, 000 miles and only use it for work commute which is 1 mile round trip. i have had oil changes regularly. when mechanic looked at it--he said not another one! come to find out that fuel injection/pump failure for these cars is notorious. my mechanic said that my car was the seventh in the last 8 month. same mo--no indication of problems and suddenly your car just stops! regardless of wear and tear or car mileage. so i guess i was lucky--i was not driving in traffic when this occurred. and mechanic cut me a break at $700. this is outrageous! and you wonder why the german, japanese cars are out selling good ole usa. this was my first purchase of american car, and unfortunately i wish i had instead bought another honda, or mazda. *tr

I bought a 2003 chevy cavalier a few months ago. it has 56,000 miles on it and the fuel pump went out on it. at first i didn't think it was a big problem with the cavaliers so i googled it and it turns out there were almost 400 complaints from people who have had there fuel pumps go out on their 2003 cavaliers at low mileage, and those are just the ones on google. im sure there are many more! as far as i know there aren't any recalls for this problem, but with as many cases as there are than it would be a defect and there should be a recall. the average price to repair the fuel pump is around $700 and i really cant afford that much. any kind of help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. thanks *tr

I had to replace my fuel pump. when i was looking for information on the topic i found that over 300 others, had the same problem when dealing with the same issue after owning the car for short periods of time. i feel that if this is happening with this model 2003 in particular that chevy should look into what is causing this failure. *tr

While driving home from work, my 2003 chevrolet cavalier suddenly stalled in traffic. in order to prevent a serious accident, i attempted to pull the vehicle to the side of the road. without power steering (due to the vehicle stalling), control was limited and i ultimately ran into a snow bank. luckily, i was able to get the vehicle off the road far enough to prevent a more serious accident involving other vehicles. the car would not restart, and i was forced to leave the vehicle on the roadside and get a ride home. at home, i performed an internet search and found that many other drivers had similar problems with the same vehicle, most of which are the result of premature failure of the fuel pump. using information obtained from other owners with similar problems, i was able to get the vehicle started and running intermittently in order to get it home. altogether, the vehicle stalled three times during the process, and now will not start at all. i have contacted several mechanics who all feel the fuel pump has failed and i will be taking it in for service tomorrow. *tr

2003 chevrolet cavalier- at 64,000 miles fuel pump died while parked at a store upon restart $700.00 replacement. at approximately 60,000 miles front clunking noise started, dealer could never find a problem, now at 76,000 miles, having front upper strut mounts replaced. found alot of complaints online about same issues. i determined cause of front clunk on my own. also, was in collision that involved front driver side, down driver side front fender, airbags did not deploy, don't know if they should have. noone was hurt, was slow speed crash. still cannot believe no recall on fuel pump or front suspension. apparently gm doesn't want to foot the 700.00 bill for the fuel pump defect. *tr

The first incident occurred while i was at highway speed using cruise control. the engine began to lope badly, the car lost velocity and slowed, then revved back up and continued on. the next time i had an issue, the car would not start. the starter would click, but there was an ignition issue. reliable chevrolet (dallas) reported that the fuel pump had failed. they replaced it for $900 including lifetime warranty on the part, then the next week an ignition sensor failed. this was replaced free-of-charge for missing it on the diagnostic. *tr

2003 chevy cavalier shut down suddenly while driving a reasonable speed on laurel canyon drive, a very busy highway in ca and it would not restart. i was blocking traffic and other traffic was spending by making me extremely fearful for my safety. i had to wait until there was a green light and then coasted down a hill to a parking place. i then had to have the car towed to firestone who determined that it was the fuel pump which was replaced for $679. i was not aware of this potential recall or would have kept the old part. this definitely should be a recall as the car has less than 60,000 miles and it is extremely dangerous when you car suddenly stalls in the middle of a very busy highway. *tr

It seems ever one had 60 grand or better until a fuel pump went. my car had 35,000 when it went on me. now i have a question: i still have the same 2003 cavacrap and now it has an instrument cluster problem. it first started with the water temp. gauge needle moving all the way to the speedometer gauge. this problem would correct itself ever once in a while when you shut off the car. now all the instruments are whacked out and it will not correct itself. the car still runs fine (45,000 on it now) even with the problem i have now. any help?? thanks in advance i have filed a complaint before this but it seems that i can not find it. since there is no recall on the car for the problems a was having, it is obvious that chevy does not take care of there people!!! this is my wife's car. i was in the marked and did not look at chevy for a mode of transportation. i bought a ford ranger. it now has 120,000 miles on it and still going strong!!! i was a chevy man for 22 years and now i am not!! *tr

I was driving home from my sons football practice. i was in second gear going approx. 20 mph. the car slowly started to decelerate, until it stopped completely at the curb. i could not get it started. after spending $50 on a tow, and $160 to have the problem analyzed, i was told it was my fuel pump and filter that needed to be replaced. i was quoted $1160 to fix it. i'm in the process of locating a cheaper mechanic, but the lowest quote so far has been $700. making my grand total a minimum of $910. *jb

The service engine light appeared on my 2003 cavalier. i took it to walker chevrolet in franklin, tn and they performed a smoke and visual test. all tests indicated a leaking gasoline tank. the gas tank was replaced at a local garage and the mechanic noted a crack was formed at the seam area of the gasoline tank. *tr
