Problems with 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

2003 chevy cavalier just stalls out in left hand turn lane, no warning have to have it towed away fuel pump gone only 60,000 miles just paid the car off and how big bill to fix this problem. *tr

Was driving and car lost power and stalled as if out of gas. had car towed and was told it was the fuel pump. quoted price for repair is upwards of 800.00. the stall occurred on a busy bridge at rush hour. my research shows this is an ongoing high fail item that is a clear danger to our highways. *tr

Coming home from milwaukee at 12:30 am with son after seeing race in slinger, wi. on interstate, car lost complete engine power and became dead. closest gm dealership in watertown, wi went out of business last year (per tow truck driver). had towed to dealership where they diagnosed a bad fuel pump and a price of over $800. came to pick up with a trailer and asked for help pushing car on trailer. they said you could drive it up as the mechanic tapped the fuel tank and it started. drove around the block a few times last week with no problems. i explained this to gm, told them about their poor design and that this is not safe because it will fail at any time and could cause a major accident. was given case #71-648948392 (told no recalls were available per my vin #). checked on internet (topix.com) and over 400 have had similar problems. *tr

I had left my mothers and drove approximately 35 miles and started slowing to make a turn into our local grocery store when my 2003 cavalier stalled and would not restart back. upon checking i discovered there was no fuel to the fuel rail.i had just over 1/2 tank of fuel in the tank. i had another turn key and there was no whirring to indicate fuel pump was operating. i called tow service and towed it home. i dropped the tank and replaced the fuel pump and problem was resolved. another symptom not listed in the complaints when my pump failed all the gauges on the dashboard would register (fuel gauge and temp gauge) then would drop to 0 and would flicker continuously when key was turned to the on position. upon purchasing new pump assembly that the wiring harness needed to be repaired as well. you can not purchase a new harness to resolve issue had to cut the fuel pump leads off of pump wiring harness and purchase a new connector and splice them together. i feel there maybe more customers with these vehicles that had service done in a local shop that was not reported to nhtsa or to gm. as this repair was very expensive at the time and many would seek repairs for lower rates then offered by a dealership. *tr

Fuel pump failed at 62,000 miles, maintained by new car dealer. i strongly suggest an investigation into the rate of failure of fuel pumps for this model after speaking to several mechanics at the gm service center. *tr

2003 chevy cavalier suddenly loss power on major street. my daughter was driving and toddler grandson was riding in his car seat in the back seat. thankfully no one was behind her to rear end her and she was near the police station so a police officer assisted her off of the road. the fuel pump was replaced the following day at the cost of $557.00. the vehicle only has 40k miles. i've never replaced a fuel pump on any car that i've ever owned even those that i kept long enough to have 4 times that number of miles. after researching and finding that too many owners of this make, model and year have had this problem for it to be incidental i am filing this complaint as well. *tr
