My customer complained of a transmission failure involving, but not limited to a dtc p0785. i asked my customer if the involved vehicle (2000 chevrolet blazer) had any dealer or after market accessories installed, customer adamantly replied: no, "bone stock gm." my customer was not aware that the involved vehicle had a theft deterrent system, manufactured by "karr" and distributed by audiovox with installers nationwide. i have been actively involved with gm dealerships for over forty years and possess a wealth of experience in parts and service experience. i removed the suspect security system and repaired the damaged wiring which resulted in the improper installation. in the past week i have been confronted with four customer complaints which resulted from security systems, aftermarket radios and including aftermarket headlamps. these aftermarket components are the direct cause of system failures involving engine management systems, lights, and numerous electrical failures. i sincerely request immediate and thorough investigation which i remain confident will result in massive recalls of these inferior products. *tr

2000 chevy blazer vin[xxx] with automatic trans type 4l60e. reaction shell stripped & system contminated.with resulting loss of reverse gear & 3rd gear. $3000 to fix. talked with several shops & this is a very common problem. sounds like manufacture defect of reaction shell not strong enough & teeth stripping off. wrote to chevy for reimbursement but was refused. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Reverse gone out on transmission twice. *tr
I parked vehicle after driving approximately 45 minutes on a highway. began return trip approximately 1 hour later and abs light came on. upon entering the highway the abs light went out and the engine began to rev and wouldn't shift into high gear. was able to use local access roads to get home. problem diagnosed by an independent garage and corroborated by transmission repair center as transmission failure. no apparent problem with the abs. vehicle has 20,235 miles on it, and we were the original owners. vehicle has never been taken off the road, has never towed anything, and has probably only been put into 4-wd 20 times. complete transmission rebuild required at a cost to us of $2,000.*ak

I have a 2000 blazer with 58,000 miles and the fuel gauge does not work properly. i have heard dealers and mechanics say that it is common problem with chevrolet. i would like to know if they plan to address the issue. also, my locking rear differential does not work. my brother had it replaced twice under warranty on his 2004 z71.*jb
Began with loud undercarriage noise when shifting into second. now truck will no longer shift into 2nd or reverse. only 39,000 original miles on this one owner truck. not an electrical or fluid problem. *nm
1. chevy blazer - shifts hard from 1st to 2nd 2. reverse quit working 3. not repaired yet, needs new transmission
I purchased my 2000 blazer ls 2dr 4x4 with 58000 miles. at speeds around 65-70, it vibrates pretty harshly. i have brand new tires, breaks, and my u-joints and bearings have been inspected and found to be fine. still have vibration. i have noticed via the internet that this is a known problem with blazer's and it is just a defect in the way the drivetrain was built. i feel that this problem should be investigated and repaired by gm. also at 58000 miles i had to replace the alternater. i spoke with the person who i bought the vehicle from and they said that they had replaced it once also, therefore this would be the 3rd alternater in under 60000 miles.
I was driving down the road when my car made a pop sound and would not accelerate. i pulled into a gas station and went to leave and had no reverse. hard to shift from 1st to 2nd. the car only has 72000 miles on it.*ak
In a 2000 chevrolet blazer, 40000 miles. 4 wheel drive front differential actuator failed to engage and was locked in 4 low gearing. upon inspection it was determined that the actuator had corroded to the point that it need to be replaced. the quote from the dealer was over $500 for replacement part. dealer and manufacturer representatives made comments regarding the frequency of said problem when questioned.*ak
I was driving to work when all of a sudden a heard a loud pop. then my vehicle would not accelerate. i got to work and my vehicle would not go in reverse. i call my mechanic and had my vehicle towed. it was my transmission that went and it only has 50k miles on it. it cost me 1,400 for the transmission,84.00 for the tow and 102.00 for the rental. *nm
While shifting the vehicle into drive/neutral or reverse a two to three second delay caused a hesitation in the transmission from shifting. consumer noticed a clanking noise. drove vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic informed consumer that the problem could not be duplicated. *ak
While driving automatic transmission fluid dripped to the muffler and vehicle caught on fire. vehicle was totaled. *ak
On the way back from a weekend camping trip we stopped for lunch. when we returned to the vehicle to leave there was a grinding noise and then a whirling noise and the reverse gear went out on the transmission. when we got home and i called around i found that this was a common problem with this vehicle. *nm
While driving 60 mph the 4-wheel drive engaged. consumer pulled over and restarted the vehicle. dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. *ak
We purchased our blazer new. at 23,000 miles we heard a clunk noise in the transmission when we put it in reverse, but the vehicle appeared to be fine. since the vehicle was still under warranty i took the blazer to the dealership and had them look to ensure there were no problems. they couldn't find anything and said it was still under warranty, if something were to cracked and break it would still be covered. the transmission broke at 55000 miles, 2nd, 4th & reverse didn't work. the dealership wasn't interested in fixing it under warranty because it was beyond the 3/36 warranty coverage. i spoke with several local independent garages getting estimates and everyone said chevrolet has had all kinds of problems due to a broken internal gear. i paid $2,000 to get it fixed. since doing so i've talked to countless blazer owners and the majority have had the same problem. one other problem we recently experienced was the front right wheel bearing going bad. my investiagtions have concluded that is another known defect gm has and are unwilling to fix. is there someone at gm who is willing to assist in compensation for my costly transmission fix? everyone i've contacted are not interested in helping the consumer with a problem that happens without warning and left my wife in the middle of the road. working in the automitive industry and a supplier to both gm and ford, i understand the liability automakers have in addressing known problems, especially problems like this that could happen without warning and result in death. i encourage assistance on this matter from gm or nhtsa. *ak
While driving consumer heard a loud sound. he looked around and there was nothing there. later, consumer arrived to his destination and tried to park, but did not have reverse. he went forward and had a hard time getting into gear. consumer drove the vehicle to the dealer, and it was being checked for defects. *ak

Transmission pump failure 69,800 miles cost at ammco transmission $1639.00. leak out of side of transmission could have cuased fire if i did not see leak.gas gauge also does not register correctly.i never now when i am out of gas.knock in passenger side firewall a problem.seat lever broken for second time.the oly good thing about this car is i have 70,000 miles on the brake pads.but tomarrow i may need a master cylinder the ways things are going.back rear window release lever failure cost me $300.00 to fix. i really feel that chevy should have not built this vehicle at all. they knew the problems and continued not to fix these problems.i feel the should have fixed the gas gauge problem and helped with the cost of the transmission repair.this is my last gm vehicle so i guest it doesn't matter. i looked at a chevy equinox and was concidering it. but unless they give me a 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty i will buy a toyota or nissan. at least they know how to build good transmissions!!!!*ak
I own a 2000 chevy blazer. in the past 3 months i have noticed hard shifting between 1st and 2nd gear after long trips on the interstate(happened 3 times). the service engine soon light came on and i took it to bill heard chevrolet. code error 1870 was recorded. it was a valve body assembly malfunction that caused my transmission to have to be replaced after only 67,000 miles.
The 4 wheel drive service light would illuminate while driving. when this occurred it prevent the 4 wheel drive from being engage. the dealer was notified. the dealer informed the consumer that part was not covered under a recall. *nm *nm
Problems that are not saftey issues: air conditioning doesn't work; door hinge pin needs to be replaced; driver's window slips off track to the outside of the frame, resulting in the back side of the window cracked at least a 1/4 of an inch (was told by friendly chevrolet in springfield il that this is a design problem and can not be fixed; called chevrolet and was told to take it back to dealer and pay them to reevaluate the problem; ) safty issues: ball joints need to be replaced;gas gauge sending unit doesn't work;;differential is leaking and plug connected to this needs to be drilled out and rethreaded to find out how bad the leak is; windshield wiper on driver's side loose and flips off to the left of the windshield in heavy rain and snow; electrical harnass needs to be replaced; engine insolation pealing off under hood; engine light on continually; car stalls intermitantly(first time it happened, was told the engine had overheated); at every start up, engine stays in nuetral (has no excellerator power)then catches after about three minutes); work done: thermostat hoses replaced;distributor replaced;spark plug wires and spark plugs replaced; sepentine belt replaced; part between the axle and the u joints needed to be replaced; oil leak fixed;fuel injector replaced; i have no idea what will go wrong when; it's like playing russian rullett while driving; have rented vehicle twice; will also need to rent vehicle for cross country road trip next week; will not risk driving this car; (incident date: first incident-day estimated)
Oil cooler lines were rubbing on wiring harness in left front wheel well. the rubbing caused a hole in the oil lines resulting in loss of oil pressure and oil. after getting this fixed i was told this was a common problem with this model. after inspecting the repairs i noticed a new assembly seperating the lines which will correct the problem. i am extremley dissatisfied that i had to cover the repairs, i personally feel that this is a safety defect. if it would have blown out at highway speed it would have covered the driver side tires with oil and make the vehicle uncontollable. *ak
Upon approaching the driveway vehicle suddenly made a noise. steering wheel felt funny. also, front left tire turned in the opposite direction that vehicle was going. when this occurred vehicle skidded. consumer depressed the brake pedal to stop. this occurred because the left front lower ball joint came apart, and the front right ball joints were starting to show signs of the same failure. the entire front suspension assembly needed to be replaced. also, automatic transmission slipped when shifting from first to second gear. meanwhile, while driving in over drive mode, the over drive disengaged and vehicle speed was reduced from a rapid pace to a very low speed. this failure almost resulted in an accident. dealership determined this was caused by a failure in the torque converter solenoid.*ak
Front axle has a continuous leak. was resealed on one occaison and entire front axle replaced on another. still continues to leak fluid.*ak
Automatic transmission .shifting hard in gears, transmission whining real loud, slipping. *ak
I purchased my chevrolet blazer new at the end of 1999 and it has been in the shop so much i know all 15 of the mechanics by there first name. the battery has been replaced at least 3 times, the alternator has been changed 3 times, the automatic transmission has been replaces, the seat handles have been replaced more than once, the seat belts have been replaced from locking up, the front end has had work done to it and still is not fixed, the rear right speaker does not work, the fuel gauge has been replaced, the gas petal sticks i haft to clean the card at least every month, the heater core has been replaced 3 times and it still does not get hot. i was told that this was caused by the orange antifreeze and was told that chey would not warranty their 5 year antifreeze and the dealer told me that i needed a $500.00 engine flush that i could do my shelf for $10.00 but i was then told that the engine was corroded up inside and i would need a new motor and they would not pay for it even under warranty. i called gm complaint line and was told that they new of the problem and they could not offer me any help. the complaint line was a joke and a waste of my time. i will never buy another chevy this is my second vehicle. my first was a s10 and i had the same problems. *ak
Automatic transmission failure made it impossible for vehicle to go into the reverse gear. also, consumer was unable to buckle the rear seat belt because the plate got stuck in the holster, and the holster was stuck in the seat. dealership was notified of both failures, but was unable to resolve the problems. *ak
I bought this blazer 5 months ago and it only has 77,000 miles on it. i took my inlaws to the airport on saturday morning, 11/29/03, and the transmission went out, no reverse, only 1st and 2nd gear works. i am told by 3 different transmission shops that this is a common problem with this transmission. this is not right, why wasn't this been recalled? *nlm
The fule sending unit went out and the transmission went out at 50,000 miles. *ak
The fuel pump, line and tank are faulty at 35000 miles. i bought it as a used car from santa ana hyundai who agreed to fix the fuel pump but did not. the transmission is not changing gears properly, it would not start when i turned it off to get gas on 9-26-03, the left front end is popping with a loud noise, the brakes are not antilock brakes,it feels as if i am hitting metal when i stop hard, the panel lights would flicker, lights on dash board when flash when i had seatbelt on. i had a chevrolet dealership fix the minor things. the battery cable was loose and they oiled the joints to stop the squeak. the dealer refused to fix the fuel pump which is unsafe and demand i pay him money that is already above the price of this car. i am paying $14,000 plus for a 2000 chevrolet blazer with a faulty fuel pump.the door entry will not properly take in the key to open the door.the gauge meters were dancing back and forth and not properly reading the fuel.it was a rental car before i bought it so i had no real history of recalls or mechanical reports. *la
Someone should do something about the fact that the transmissions on the 4x4 suv has a problem. the products used are not very heat tolerant. i have spoken to several people who have had to have the transmission rebuilt or replaced. also in looking on the internet i am seeing an awful lot of people having trouble with the heating and air system on the blazer.*ak
While driving, the transmission failed without warning. the dealer was notified. *ak the consumer was stopped at a stop sign on a side road, waited for traffic to clear and as he made the left turn onto the highway, a pop sound was heard and the lost power. the vehicle moved forward in a jerking motion. then the consumer continued to drive in low gear slowly and could not get out of the driveway in reverse. *scc *jb
6/12/03, 2000 blazer 4x4 transmission suddenly lost ability to obtain all gears. after parking, the vehicle lost ability to shift into reverse as well. noise transmitted from transmission contained metallic material grinding and moving within. at the time, the vehicle was still less than 3 years old with the majority of its use coming from work transportation. the chevy dealer would not quote without disassembling the transmission, which would be the majority of the labor involved in a full repair. they stated that they generally prefer to replace the transmission, $3200. a local transmission shop diagnosed the issue within 10 minutes. the owner has seen this issue on several occasions and literally described the symptoms as soon as i told him i had a blazer with transmission issues. the complete rebuild, due to a sun-shell gear failure, cost $2097.78. the technician stated that the non-robust joining of two cylinders (no fillet) as well as the thickness and material used allows the part to fail quite frequently. he had completed multiple jobs for this at his shop alone. in fact, an acquaintance of mine, had the identical situation happen with his blazer the week of 10/26/03. at the time of the incident i had called the chevy customer service line with no help coming from them. this has been the pinnacle of several failures on this vehicle including both front wheel bearing assemblies (38,000mi and 55,000mi), a power seat that quit working, a power window that quit working, and several paint issues. reference chevy technical service bulletin 010730038.*ak
For several weeks, 4lo light on dash would flash as if trying to shift into 4 wheel drive, on 5/19/03, it was locked into 4lo, have not been able to transfer to 2 wheel drive, very loud grinding noise in front end when trying to take out of 4lo. *nlm
