Problems with 2005 Buick Terraza ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL

Hello, i have a 2005 buick terraza cx awd. my abs and traction control lights came on and when it did the vehicle started to apply the brakes itself pulling the vehicle to the left while driving. i couldn't control the vehicle. i started reading up on this, and it appears many other owners of this vehicle been having this same unsafe problem over the years and no recall is been done. this is a very serious issue!!! i'm surprise no one has been involved in an accident and been killed. i also notice this has been reported many times as well to the manufacture and they haven't done anything about it but come up with excuses to the owners like myself. do someone has to be killed before a recall is done? i myself is going to take my video i had filming on my windshield when this incident ocurred and send it to all the major news media groups in this country and put it on social media as well. thank you for reviewing my complaint, and hopefully the government make buick the manufacture do a safety recall asap. i can't upload my video because it's over the maximum size allowed to upload on this website.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 buick terraza. while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle began to jerk and the "track system" and "stability" indicators illuminated. the vehicle stalled and was taken to the rogers dabbs chevrolet dealer at 1501 w government st. in brandon, ms where the vehicle was diagnosed. the diagnosis results were undetermined. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the vin was unknown. the approximate failure mileage was 110,000.

At 90,900 mileage on my van, i started experiencing problems with my stability control, abs, and my traction control system. when driving at numerous speeds, the stability control system would kick in, would grab at my drivers side front wheel and make the van swerve to the left. on the instrument panel, it would say to "service stability control". this has happened when i was traveling at 40 mph, at 20 mph, and just starting to drive after taking a turn. this has also happened to me today to where i was pressing the brake and the traction control kicked in on dry pavement while i was going less than 30 mph. i have had my 4 children in the vehicle when this has occurred and has scared them as well as myself and my husband. this vehicle is our main form of transportation.

When driving, usually at highway speeds, one of the front brakes will automatically grip, making the nose dive and making it hats to maintain control of the vehicle. the message displayed says to service the stability control system, which we have done with no resolution. we have nearly gotten in wrecks.

I recently bought this 2005 buick terraza cx. as per carfax the vehicle has been beautifully maintained. after a week of having my vehicle i will be driving around and the service traction control light comes on and the vehicle will screech on its breaks and pull to the right. i have taken it into the dealership where they replaced the sensor and a week later it continues to randomly brake when excellerating, or even turning. this has happened 3 times now. it is very scary driving down the road and all of a sudden your vehicle screeches to a halt and has the vehicle swerve.

As we were driving home in may of 2014 the left front brake grabbed as if i had applied the brake,since then we have had both wheel bearings replaced lower ball joints and tie rod ends but nothing has changed. it has grabbed several times since then,this is a serious matter that should be dealt with, i refuse to let my wife drive the van especially when we have our five children with us because when this occurs it jerks the to the left towards oncoming traffic. *tr

I want to report a very unusual incident that my wife and i experienced january 7, 2014 involving our 2005 buick terraza automobile. it was a scary event of which i am still trying to find the exact cause. while descending from the cocoa bridge crown, at around forty five mph, i lightly applied the brakes to adjust to the traffic speed. when bam the left wheel lock up jerking us toward the cement rails on the left side of the bridge, then the car traction control' cut in and slowed the vehicle. other car tires were squealing around us as they were trying to avoid hitting us. i would say the wheel lockup was one second or less and the whole incident lasted from three to five seconds. then the car returned to normal operation with no further hint of this problem for the next forty miles. i've looked on the internet and found several reports of this same exact incident including many complaints on your system. i took the car to our local garage and they said the abs computer system showed no faults and found no mechanical reason for this wheel to lock up. my next stop was the dealer where i bought the car twenty five miles away. lane buick gmc checked it out and reported the same thing except the mechanic wrote 'corrected by suspension repair' which suggests that he fixed something, what ever it was. yet i understood from the service representative they couldn't find anything to cause this unheard event. i next called buick in detroit, mi they were of little help saying if it didn't leave any code on the computer, it never happened. then ask if i would consider buying a new car and trading this one in. until i know what the mechanism is for this car behavior, i would never unload this problem on someone else. it is like the emperors new clothes story, no one at gmc has ever heard of the problem before. *tr

Randomly, while driving the abs system activates the brakes, pulling the car to one-side. if my memory serves me correctly, it pulls to the right. after this happens, the car's "traction control active" message appears on the instrument panel. parking the car, turning it off, and restarting the car causes the message to go away. this has happened about 4 times in the past 3 weeks at speeds varying from 5-35 miles per hour. i fear that it could be potentially dangerous if this were to happen at higher speeds.. the car has been checked, prior to this incident, by an ase certified shop and both front wheel hubs have been replaced within the past 18 months, which have integrated wheel speed sensors. i have read that most shops have been unable to pinpoint any reason for this problem, but i do plan to have my mechanic investigate and see if the computer is reporting any error codes. *tr

My passenger doors will not lock also door open why driving and my t/c come on why driving 55 to 60 miles a hour its feels like u on brakes slow down. *tr

While driving on a straight road at 30 miles an hour i heard a strange noise and the left front brake closed for a second which caused the steering wheel to jerk to the left. since that first time i have had this happen many times while driving anywhere from 15 to 70 miles an hour. i have taken it to two dealers which found various codes. apparently there is a service bulletin concerning the wiring harness because both dealers rerouted the harness several times and put a shield on it each time. i had the steering sensor replaced one time for $200 and the yaw sensor for $400. after the yaw sensor was changed the vehicle did not give me any problem for a full year. it started again so this time i pulled the fuse on the abs brakes which gives you standard brakes and i have not had any more problems. i now have 120,000 miles. this is definitely a safety problem. if i keep both hands on the wheel i can react to the problem but i am afraid to let my wife drive the van. i like everything else about the van so i hate to get rid of it. i have driven cars with out abs brakes all my life so i will continue to drive it this way. i feel it is safer this way than letting the brake engage on its on. *tr

After having my car repaired & returned on 9/21/2010 my van starting repeating the same problem again on 9/24/2010. the problem is while driving at highway speed the abs engages causing the van to jerk & lurch narrowly avoiding a wreck. returned the van to the dealer for days, was told it was the yaw rate sensor which was replaced less than a week before. dealer agreed that it couldn't be that but was never able to find the problem. they cleared the code and returned the van on the 10/1/2010 without any repair being done. this the third time we have had this problem with gm. there must be a design problem that needs to be fixed before someone is killed in an accident. all removed parts were retained by the dealer. *tr

Was driving at highway speed when the abs engaged on one side. the car jerked and lurched. my children & i were fortunate we didn't crash. once the abs released, the traction control engaged and then tripped out. "service stability system" message was then displayed. this happened repeatedly while awaiting the local dealer to have time work on van, i was told they were too busy to look at it even though this was an urgent problem. when they worked on the van they stated the yaw rate sensor needed replacing. item was replaced and van returned on 9/21/2010, cost approx. $500 on 9/24/2010 same problem presented. *tr

In the summer of 2010, i was driving on an on ramp to the interstate when it felt like the brakes grabbed and wouldn't allow me to accelerate (53604 miles). the car pulled to the left, and i had to work overtime to get the car to stop on the side of the road. several cars were behind me ' expecting me to speed up ' and it could have been a very bad situation. i was towed to a buick dealership, but they could not re-create the issue. the manager then got in the car with me driving so that we could see what would happen. we didn't get far before it happened again. i speculated that the issue was with the abs system, but they couldn't find the issue so my thoughts could not be affirmed. fast forward to january 2011, my abs symbol and 'service stability system' alert come on, and the car grabs and makes a crunching sound (59287 miles). *tr

there are several defects that i am experiencing with this van. these issues escalated this weekend, the traction control and system stability indicators came on again and caused the brakes to lock i changed the brakes because i thought that was the cause it was not. also the rear sliding doors will open while driving on their own. this van has been in the shop at lou fusz saint louis, mo several times and it is still not operating. this is a safety issue i am lucky that i was not on the highway when the brakes locked up, unfortunately that is not the case with the doors. i cancelled a trip to the zoo with my kids because the doors opened on their own while on the interstate, they are now afraid to ride in the back seats. *tr

I bought a 2005 buick terraza in sept. 2009 39,500 mi. approximately 31 days after purchase stability control sensor on drivers side front went bad. making the whole front end lock up. galpin ford who we bought buick from paid for lamb chevrolet to fix the sensor buick had 42,000. on it when went out. 30 days later same incident happened my front end locked up and on dash said stability control active stabilize stability system took back to lamb chevrolet and at that time they said wiring was faulty making sensor go out again so they rewired the buick this time plus replaced sensor for 2nd time. 7 months later once again front end locksup and same msg. stability system active take back to lamb chevrolet and same sensor for 3rd time has went bad they cant figure out why. this is a major safety issue and even if i was to pay to get fixed again its quite obvious it will go out again. it just a matter of when will it go out. while im driving down road going 65 with my 4 children thinking vehicle is repaired again and all sudden front end locks this vehicle will eventually end up killing myself or a passenger or innocent bystander. i have receipts for all repairs maintenance done on this vehicle it will end up causing mass damage. *tr

The vehicle started to flash stability system active and at any given time, while driving down the road, the vehicle (on it's own) will engage the abs and slam on brakes while pulling to the left. after this happens, it flashes service stability system. this has happened numerous times in the last couple of days and if was raining, would have definitely caused a major accident or head on collision. *tr

The traction control, stability, and abs warnings randomly appear and cause the car to slow down and the driver to take corrective action to appropriately steer the car. *tr

Brakes felt uneasy stopping did not respond right away sometime had to pull a side to prevent accident. alternator don't start at all and abs light stayed on most of time many repairs done same problem at dealer ship.

I have a 2005 buick terraza with 20,000 miles on it. recently when the temp has got cold (30 degrees) the service stability and the service traction lights have came on. after i drive the van, the next time i start the van the lights are usually gone but then when i have been driving straight on a dry road at about 45 mph or so and hit a bump the van would pull, decelerate and swerve for a few seconds and the service stability light would come on. this has happened 4 times. i took it to the dealer and they found 5 codes but they say they can't help them figure what is wrong and all they can do is drive my van around until it does it again and hope they get a code that will help them. the codes were c0253/c0870/c0460/c0196/c0187. i found other people on line who had similar problems with these vehicles and printed suggestions for the dealer to check(steering wheel sensor and frayed wires). the dealer then found a green and blue wire from the forward engine harness routed from the ebcm underneath the inlet air box were completely rubbed through. they rubbed against the transmission bolt. hopefully this will fix the problem. i guess you got to give some dealers help finding the problem with your vehicle. this is could be a problem with these type of gm vans and it could be very dangerous depending on what wires are frayed and when they malfunction the stable trak system could throw the van out of control which could lead to a deadly accident. *jb

For the second time, my traction control light came on and my "service stability system" light appeared. luckily, this time i was at a red light and not driving and was able to have control of my vehicle, unlike the last time this happened. upon examination at the dealer, found to have a "missing" traction control fuse, which was replaced, and regarding the "service stability system" alert - found the yaw rate sensor had an internal failure, which was replaced. how many times does this have to happen before buick will take responsibility and realize that this vehicle is unsafe to drive? buick tells me to talk to the dealer; the dealer refers me to buick. apparently no one cares that i am driving around in a very unsafe vehicle, unless an accident and personal injury or worse occurs. this time i had a friend and her son in my vehicle. i hate to even think what could have happened if i had been moving when this latest failure occurred. the last time this happened was horrific enough, and i was told the vehicle was fixed, obviously it wasn't. the only thing i would like from buick and the dealer is my money back so that i can purchase a safe vehicle. for now, this will sit in my driveway, as there is no way that i will ever get behind the wheel of this vehicle again. never again will i put my child, my friends or myself at risk. is safety too much to ask for in a $30,000.00 vehicle? i have had 14 repairs made to this van in 18 months, with only 13,000 miles on it. i bought this vehicle in good faith, why won't buick stand behind their product and do right by me? or as a dealer told me "you should have just wrecked the first time and then buick would have done something." *jb

Noticed a grinding or rubbing noise in the rear of my 2005 buick terraza cxl. have noticed twice that the message display indicates service stability system. when taken to dealership they are unable to duplicate problem and the computer has not registered any incidence. what, if anything, can or should be done to rectify this situation? *jb

For the second time the stability traction malfunctioned while driving my terraza. the brakes slammed on by themselves and the steering went out. this happened once before with my child in the car. after the first malfunction, buick would not let me terminate my lease and guaranteed me this would never happen again. reluctantly, i agreed to keep the car. guess what, it happened again. i refuse to ever let my daughter or i to be in the car again. even though i pleaded with buick's customer service that i agreed to take the car back after the first malfunction, although very fearful, with their guarantee it wouldn't happen again, it did. they will not terminate my lease they told me i was still obligated to pay for the lease until the term was up and if i was too scared to drive it, that was my problem. does someone have to get seriously injured or die from them to recall? *jb

Dt*: the contact stated the brakes engaged three times while going 60 mph. each time, this happened the asc (automatic stability control) light illuminated on the dash. the first time this occurred, the vehicle was towed to the dealership. prior to this incident, the vehicle's abs engaged only at slow speeds. to repair this problem the dealership installed a new computer in the vehicle. when the problem recurred, the vehicle was taken to the dealership where the sensor will be replaced. the contact was unaware of the type of sensor. updated 7/5/2006 - *nm

Yesterday january 8, 2005 we took a trip to a relatives house in pennsylvania. on our way home and luckily for us in the town we live in, our terrazza started make a screeching noise and the brakes locked bringing the car to a grinding stop. it was the scariest thing that has ever happened to us. the car could not be driven even a few feet,the display panel said "stability control active". we were very fortunate that the car behind us was able to swerve out of our way or there would have been a serious accident. i can't help but wonder what would have happened if this incident happened 30 minutes before and we were on the highway traveling at highway speed. i know since i was in the car, i believe we would not be alive to tell you about this incident. we called on-star but they were unable to diagnose anything and called a tow truck to have the car towed to the nearest dealer, freehold pontiac/buick/gmc. the dealer was able to determine that it was a short in a wire under the dashboard and the car was repaired and ready for pick-up. i refused to pick the car up because i am afraid that if this happens again i might not survive nor will my family. the dealer agreed to keep the car another day and to provide us with further details about the wires tomorrow. this is a major safety issue and many gm models either have or will be equipped with this type of system soon. there is no way to disengage this system. *nm

I was driving on the highway switching lanes on dry pavement, clear day, and the traction control system or the stability control system engaged causing the vehicle to rapidly decelerate and swerve to the left. it happened to my wife and she called me crying saying she did not want to drive the car. i did not take her seriously, until she went out of town and the vehicle did the same to me on the highway. this traction control or stability control system has a problem and is a major safety concern. i tried to disengage the system before driving it on the highway to take it to the dealer and it happened again. the horn is hard to push and cause the horn to make a sound. without a horn, the car is not safe. *nm
